Can you imagine the sales if Mariah's team would have had decided to realise AND promote songs the best way possible since 2008 ? After Touch My Body, her team did shit with everything. Migrate or Cruise control could have been huge hits, just like More than Just Friends or Ribbon in 2009. But as always, wrong singles after wrong singles choices... lack of music video, lack of promo... It makes me mad because her ENTIRE discography has so much potential and is so good. She really produces quality and she's surrounded by poeple who don't know what they're doing and that, since 2008. Periodtt
I Stay in Love was a good single but badly promoted and has a horrible video.

Agree. E=MC2 was her most largely anticipated album only for it to peak at 3M copies sold. It should have sold more than twice with the right promotion.

@@touka7317 not only that, but E=MC2 still is her biggest first week ever and her last number 1 album. I don't think the singles were the reason for not doing more than it deserved, I think it was Mariah marrying Nick Cannon. Once she married him, she cut all promotions from the album. When the album was released, she said she was going to tour and insteas she got married and the toyr never happened, which sucks because most of the songs on that album are some of her best.

We need to make 'Mariah Carey' (her debut album) DIAMOND! It's very close and it's an achievement few people have. This album was nominated for, and probably should've won, the Album of the Year Grammy! It's a great debut album. Buy it, gift it! Let's get her to DIAMOND (10 million)!!

Me, I Am Mariah and Caution were terribly shunned. People missed out on 2 really great albums with some killer vocals, especially on MIAM. And Caution just had some really cool songs on it that were very modern. Shame on radio for not playing songs from these 2 records. If people had heard them, the albums would have sold so many more copies.
Sigh. MIAMTEC could have sold more had it not been delayed and had such bad promotion (excluding Beautiful) . And with Caution, the GP just seemed to be done with her. I know I'm asking for too much, but I want Mariah to have one last emancipation era. To shut the haters.

There are some underrated albums like MIAMTEC, The Remixes, Charmbracelet and Caution to name a few i dont understand. Here in the Philippines sadly Sony international closed they dont release MC album here anymore . So i needed to order abroad Caution and the deluxe editiom of Merry Cbristmas, more expensive but i try to collect all her albums. Mariah's music is GOLD and she is one of the best-selling artists of all time, and this is more than enough. And oh, she has 19 number 1 songs in the US!
I think the reason Caution didn't do as good is because it was released near Christmas time😭so it's she blocked her album from doing better cause she is very POWERFUL around the Christmas season and her Christmas songs are😭😭
first album is fantastic....I am Hungarian (central europe)....i think the first album is over 10 million in the usa...coz it was a very moderate success (and sold) in europe....UNFORTUNALLY!!!it has super late 80's feeling....half of the tracks were written in 1989....moreover two tracks are from Mariah's teen time.....see my long comment about the debut album in love takes time video.....Mtv europe avoid Mariah until the music box area (only vision of love, emotios, I will be there were played on heavy rotation...)...what made me raving mad that until 1999!!!!!!!!i coludn't record i don't wanna cry.....even when mtv europe had Mariah Carey weekend...they ignored the first album (except for vision of love)....europeans think that her peak was the disco version of my all in 1998!!!!and without you in 1994......

Although, I appreciate Chartmasters attempts - I don't fully agree with his assessment. Mariah opened up a whole new avenue in South Asia in 1993 and they were too new to have any kind of system. We always have to take the label's word for things because of it. Mariah was presented with an award last year acknowledging over 1 billion in sales throughout Asia, when she left Sony in 2001 they released a statement that she had made them over $1 billion in revenue.
They said they earned 1 billion dollars. That doesn't mean 1 billion sales. 1 billion dollars can be composed of 150 million album and 50 million single sales. We don't know.
