And buried under that wall of back up vocals, horns and piano. Search for Rick Beato's analysis the solo with proper volume. Whoever produced the album should have been fired.
@@RocketRic14 Yeah, he was one of the earliest examples of "video killed the radio star". By 1980, he won the Big Three at the Grammys (Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year), as well as Best New Artist (something that wasn't accomplished on a debut album until nearly 40 years later with Billie Eilish), and the following year he had an Oscar for co-writing "Arthur's Theme". By the time his second album came out in 1983, the dude couldn't get arrested, because chubby bearded dudes making yacht rock didn't appeal to the MTV crowd. He went from 5x platinum and numerous awards, to barely hitting Gold and putting out his final Top 10 single ever. Music video culture really changed things in popular music, and Cross was one of the few who got thrown to the wayside for a long time because of it.
You can't beat Christophers theme song style!!! He keys up your imagination and takes you with him on his journey, and you are always glad to join him!
Love it. Also love that you ride in your car listening to Sailing. I swear that the song Sailing does something to the brain. You just feel better listening to it. Like anything is possible.
Just finished watching your Exile video... awesome!! Christopher Cross too??? These are all the songs my father played in his pickup. Great memories! Count ne as your newest subscriber. Love 60s, 70s and 80s Rock! 👍🏾
Sailing ⛵️ is my favorite ❤️ 🎵 if you’ve ever seen the movie 🎥 Arthur, staring Dudley Moore - the Theme Song 🎶 was done by Christopher Cross. It’s also very well known and good as is the movie.
LOVE this song ( and Christopher Cross ) and Sailing, two very soothing and calming songs which I enjoy. These 2 songs are my go to tunes when I'm stressed, down and need a good endorphin rush.
Christopher is such an amazing Artist, both in his own released music as well as what he has done for other musicians. Also, did you pick up on the great Michael McDonald on the background? Both truly amazing. Please make sure to check out more of Christophers music! Also, that man can rip a guitar.
Ashley, YOU ARE A RABBIT HOLE!! I found you one night when I couldn’t sleep and listened to your reactions for 5 straight hours!! Keep up the great work. Your reactions are as good as the music!
Michael McDonald was responsible for helping getting Christopher Cross' career started. I think 'Arthur's Theme' is his signature song. The song was the soundtrack from the movie Arthur (1981) The song won Best Original Song at the 1982 Grammys. 'Ride Like The Wind' was on the B side of the record while 'Arthur's Theme' was on Side A.
Hey, Ashley…first time checking out your reaction…and I was diggin’ it! I agree, Christopher Cross is multi talented, as were many from his era…great stuff!
That was awesome! Love your reaction! You could add this song to your Yacht Rock playlist! Arthur's Theme is another great Christopher Cross song you should react to
Love your reaction and I was so happy you listened to another Christopher Cross song. I had such a tough day at work and I saw this earlier. I just didn’t get a chance to listen. Honestly, you made my night so much better and appreciate you greatly! Always have been one of my favorite songs with Michael McDonald on the back up vocals. Thank you miss Ashley
I thought this song was so boring 80s. It definitely has grown on me. Its now the first song on my new playlist I made: Yacht Rock. Plus its Michael Omartian, my favorite arranger!
Check out some of Chris' later songs. What an incredible songwriter and performer he is. He did a wedding song called "Love Found a Home" which is one of the most beautiful songs you've ever heard. I think you would love it!
I think the Wikipedia page on Christopher Cross sheds light on his decline in popularity. It had to do with the emergence of MTV and music videos and a subsequent decline in popularity of the music he made. Not that it lessens his talent; few singer-songwriters are as subtle and refined as he is. All the commentary on the backup singer on this board notwithstanding, Christopher Cross created songs that are still enjoyed decades later, which speaks to their lyrical quality, which not everyone here will necessarily appreciate.
@@RocketRic14 OK... can you be more specific about what MTV wanted? Or why Christopher Cross is not what they wanted? This song is a chronicle of a desperado raised into a life of crime and lawlessness trying to escape to freedom. I'm sure there are many people who have heroes who are persecuted and on the run and this song relates to their stories.
No One makes music like that ERA🤩 , unique time to be Alive when musicians played music and created music with the producers . unlike today , the producers dictating what the business owners think will make them money . 🤐
As well as his hits from this album, he also sang the theme from the movie Arthur starring Dudley Moore and Liza Mannelli(the daughter of Judy Garland from the Wizard of Oz). "The best that you can do", great movie. Dudley Moore also starred in the movie "10", with Bo Derek!
Missed Michael Mac maybe? Was such a big part of the sing as well as when Chris says, ‘I’m on the runnnnn…..’😁, & his iconic burnin solo on the jammin fade out. There was a sort of goof parody of this recording session from a show called Second City Television, where the backup singer comes in & just sings the echo, ‘such a long way to go…’, then starts to leave & realizes he has to sing it again, pretty funny.
Anything my boy Michael McDonald is on is likely to be some heat. The song crossed my ears way back when, but it wasnt until i heard it playing in the grocery story a few years back, that i really clung to it. Thank you Shazam lol this is my 💩
When they wrote these tunes....they let them "marinated" for awhile before releasing....they din't "churn" out songs back then..well maybe some artists.
Great reaction. Subbed. If you want to witness amazing versatility, go from The Beatles from first album, Meet The Beatles through the Abbey Road album.
Yes, Michael McDonald back up vocals. That' also Christopher Cross playing the guitar solo. Killer!
And buried under that wall of back up vocals, horns and piano. Search for Rick Beato's analysis the solo with proper volume. Whoever produced the album should have been fired.
@@onsesejoo2605 Saw that when it came out. Love Rick!!
That's Michael McDonald singing backup (as he did for everyone back then). Love the bongos.
I was just going to ask that question. MM has such a distinctive voice.
Oh that's Michael McDonald 1 💯 on backgrounds!! ❤
I was waiting for her reaction when she realized it
Absolutely! You can't mistake Micheal's distinct soulful sound!
Christopher Cross was like a comet, flew by then disappeared, wish he would have stayed around longer making music, he was great
He did continue making music. He didn't fit what MTV was looking for. He's still recording and touring.

I saw him live last year and he still puts on a great concert.
Christopher and the LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Michael McDonald ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You can’t go wrong with Christopher Cross! He is an amazingly talented artist! Great reaction Ashley!❤😎
I always love the lyric when he says “gotta live life, life times 10”.. indeed words to live by
It's "lived nine lives, gunned down ten", because the subject of the song is an outlaw and a murderer.
That guitar solo by Mr. Cross. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great traveling song. Flying cross country on HIghway 80...NYC to Denver in 25 hours.
Also a great cruising song driving!
25 hrs you kicked ass.
I like to think of this song in spiritual terms.....the border Mexico being heaven
Amazing song
Another fav from that amazing album: Never be the same.
You can't beat Christophers theme song style!!! He keys up your imagination and takes you with him on his journey, and you are always glad to join him!
This is the song that got all the baddies out on the dance floor in the discos back in the day.
Another fav from that amazing album: Never be the same.✨
Everybody on this track are top notch musicians

You are in the presence of greatness!Your smile is beautiful, good music makes you smile!
