  • In this video, I go over 5 things I wish I would have known before I bought the Toyota Tacoma. When I was researching the 3rd gen Taco (2016-2019) I wanted to find a concise video that went over the main quirks and never found that. Here is an attempt to save you some time!
    5 Things to know before you buy a Toyota Tacoma:
    1. Fuel Efficiency 0:38
    2. Manual VS Automatic 1:19
    3. Infotainment System 3:05
    4. Tire and Lifts 4:58
    5. Grill and TSS 6:58
    I tried to be brief about the 5 topics of what you should know before you buy the Tacoma, but if there's a certain video you want to see, make sure to leave them in the comments below.
    This channel will be focused on Toyota Tacomas, Reviews, and Adventures!
    Thanks for checking out this video.
    I will be posting weekly videos every Sunday, so I hope you'll subscribe!

    I have a 2017 auto transmission. I agree that the shifting points seem awkward and the semi-manual shifting is still over ridden by the CPU which I don’t like at all so I’m hoping to reprogram it eventually. I went with the TRD Sport cuz after I mod it to lock the differentials it’s just as good and I’m not attracted to the auto pilot the off-road version has. Nice vid. Excited to see more!

    100% on point on all the issues you discussed. Don’t get me wrong, I love, love, love my 2017 Off Road Long Bed. I’d add a couple other things. One being the way the driver seat is tilted back. # 2, the way the automatic shifts is terrible. Lastly the hood is heavy and for the price you pay it should have hood struts. Great video. Hi Kevin,
    Looking to get my Tacoma in the near future. Have you had any problems with the paint on your Tacoma? I've been reading on the TacomaWorld forums that a lot of the superwhite (0040 paint code) had issues. Some had their clear coat stripped and spot damage all over the truck, while others were chipping all over very easily.
    Looking forward to any feedback, thanks!

    • @kevinshinohara
      @kevinshinohara  3 года назад +1

      Hey man! I looked over my truck on the last wash and it had some very slight chipping which I was surprised to see. I babies mine and never spun tires or anything. From the looks of It, it was most likely rocks stuck in my tire flinging up. It was nothing bad, but for that new of a truck I was surprised to see it. To be honest though, I wouldn’t let that deter you from buying one, they’re awesome trucks! Good luck Mann

      Brian R what’s up Brian! Congrats on the new truck, you’re gonna love it. For a basic lift like the rough country, it’s about 300 for parts and about 180 for labor plus alignment. I found a good deal from a guy I know in town, but I’ve heard les Schwab trying to charge 500 bucks or more for just install. If you’re going with a better lift, it’ll definitely run more. But that should give you an idea!

    Wow I heard that back in 1983 I bought brand new SR5 with 5 speed manual and the transmission would rattle in 4,5th and the side vent window whistles and one day the steering damper broke in half dragging then the choke heat riser spring broke inside so the carb had to be removed there was no lemon law back then so I wrote to Toyota customer relations after they reviewed my vin number found out I had a 82 transmission but they had production change and somehow I ended with a year older transmission with a gear float noise so they upped my transmission warranty for 1 more year and replaced the window gasket stilled whistled found out later it was a cracked door weld but could not be fixed without ruining paint so I lived with both now this was a Japanese built truck after 2 years I sold it and went back to ford but to be honest I ended up buying a new 2005 Camry xle nice car then traded for a 2014 Camry xle hybrid and now got me a 2020 Tacoma limited

    My 2019 Toyota Tacoma SR 4X4 Long Bed 4-cylinder (2.7) litter engine gets on average 24 miles to a gallon. Granted, I drive very conservatively and seldom go off-road. For me, the 4-cylinder is the way to go. It all depends on how you are going to use the truck.

      @kevinshinohara  3 года назад

    • @kevinshinohara
      @kevinshinohara  4 года назад

      I’ve had multiple first gens and in comparison, the 3rd gen has wayyy more room. It’s still a smaller truck, but the 3rd gen is more of a midsize truck vs a small pick up on the older models. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised, but I recommend swinging by a dealer and sitting in one. Just be careful, they’re gonna try and sell you like crazy and you might get sold 😜. Come back and let me know your thoughts after you test drive it. Also I’m thinking about posting another video, what kind of stuff would you like me to talk about in the next one?

    It could be just were I live but as I'm from the portland area and I sit in traffic quite a lot but my average mpg is low 17s.. If I get a good week with little or no traffic I can see an average of 20mpgs which is almost right on the epa ratings.. mind you I drive through the city and I'm by no means a grandma driver starting from stop lights. It all boils down to how fast you drive on the highway, these trucks don't like to go fast. I can guarantee anyone could take their stock tacoma and get 27+ mpg if they went no faster then 50 mph on a straight flat road. BTW don't move to portland the city has a vendetta against higher speed limits. 🤷‍♂️

    I don’t see these Tacomas as reliable as my 99 Tacoma. These already got some recalls i.e. fuel pumps, water leaking in weird places. The dealer will keep your truck for months to fix the defects in return they will lend you a crappy rental car.

    • @kevinshinohara

      akila219 I agree completely. The older ones were so popular, they mass produced the new ones and when they’re cranking out the amount that they do, they’re bound to have issues. Still love my truck though haha

    I had a 2014 rav4 with the shitty en tune when it was becoming avalible so I went for it. Worst 1,800 upgrade I have ever made. I would ask directions to an easy place like sunoco, and it would go, "Did you say Conrete Oregon?" I live in PA, you would think it would atelase narrow its stupidity to a more local area. I'm glad I'm not the only toyota owner who straight up thi is it is shit. I replaced it with a Sony head unit with bluetooth and kept my wheel controls. Way better

      I apologize for the late reply, but I couldn't agree more. It also makes me laugh when it shows the album covers. Its usually the most random photos, whoever designed the entune needs to get slapped.

    Entune is definitely crap on the 2016 model. Over half of the apps are worthless and the voice search function is only good for phone contacts. Finding a business or a point of interest with the voice button is almost impossible. The NAV app is not user friendly so I use BLUETOOTH to get GOOGLE Maps audio and my cell phone for the visual. I have heard the newer model Tacoma has fixed these flaws.

    Tacoma is ugly and the engine sucks automatic on any car or truck sucks. That noise on your gears is because some guy in kentucky putting in the transmission was thinking about his daughter or his cousin. Toyota needs to take Tacoma to japan and really change the style and engine on this truck plus you are not complaining but hope Mr shrimp Toyota is listening.
