I do hope these bike videos gain more traction and viewers. Yes, the audio does require more fine-tuning and it’s a PITA at the best of times, but red-lining a CBX from first like that makes it all worthwhile. Those who’ve ridden these machines will understand there’s a visceral attraction that can’t be demonstrated on camera.
With the old bikes there’s a rawness. A true feeling of bike and rider. Whether a good or bad thing. If you take your rose tinted spectacles off some old bikes were awful. My Kwak Z1000 a2 handled like a pig. Also the kettle ( Suzi GT750 ). They started bringing out box section swinging arms that you could retro fit. They did help. Ahh memories.👍
Almost 100k views in less than a week - things are looking up!
Thanks for the video. Great looking example indeed. I would definitely leave the 6-in-6 exhaust on, both from the aesthetics and from the sound point of view. The sound recording quality isn't too shabby at all, especially on the outside views (stationary or from the chase car). I'm looking forward to the Z 1300 review. I find it utterly ugly, it must handle like a supertanker, I would never ever want one, but it is an iconic bike too.
@@brianphelan74 Long term Kettle owner. Love it. I know it’s horribly dated even in it’s day, but I just love everything about it.
One of the most glorious sounding engines ever... Regardless of the number of wheels
No Laverda Jota though!
Having the six pipes changed the sound for the better.Reminds me of the Benelli six.
@@richardmorris7063 I think i prefer original but still awesome
No doubt! That was a real pleasure!
In my opinion the most beautiful bike ever build. I am not even a biker. That engine is such a statement.
"Harry's just showing off at this point" ~ Jay Leno
😂😂😂
It would seem Harry can ride a bit quick, Jay.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👌👌👌
I agree. He's showing off.
So would I if I had that bike.
I often go and just look at it in the garage. I have kept it original, except for stainless steel brake lines. It is so much fun to ride!
By the way, I'll admit to being a bit disappointed that more gearheads / petrolheads aren't into motorcycles as well as cars. I'm really glad that Harry appreciates both and that he shares all of his wonderful vehicles with us - whether they feature two wheels or four. This video in particular, like the motorcycle it profiles, is a real gem.
I'm so happy to see more bike content. Feel like we need a "Harry's 2wheeled garage" channel 🤔 😁
an attached Bike Shed... more space for more bikes & more cars.
His friend Henry Cole has a decent TV show.
Yes! and Yes!
I work on these bikes on a daily basis and rebuild the engines and remanufacture parts. Harry thank you for undertaking this video, it perfectly demonstrated why I and others who own them are so passionate about these machines.
How available are these engines and what are good ones going for these days Cary? I’d love to get one in the near future!
Great to see more bike content, especially the lovely, iconic Honda.
Ian Foster who wrote that book used to ride with us in Morro Bay, California. We rode in a formation of 35 CBX's on the highway and it sounded like being in a bomber formation. Mark always rode his Rajay turbocharged black '80 CBX and its acceleration was insane. We were members of the ICOA CBX Club and had some great rides to Death Valley, Carson City, Crater Lake, etc. I still have 4 CBX bikes. I showed up on a rally in year 2000 on my 1979 CBX with my spare gas tank and body parts painted in camouflage as a joke. Those were great times.
Still own and ride a silver CBX purchased in 1978. You video really captures what it is like to ride this work of art. You machine is in remarkable condition. People who know what the bike is will comment, or ask to take a picture, or roll down their window in traffic. I was even asked to pullover by another biker so he could have a good look. Really pushing it in a corner can be exciting. Found myself going 65MPH in a 25MPH curve in Pennsylvania. The frame flexed and it wants to stand up. I pushed it down. It stands up. Thought the tires were going to lose traction, but they didn't. Wandered blind into the other lane and and finally slowed enough to gain control. Went home and changed out the plastic swing arm bushings! Your ride is why I still have and enjoy it.
I've watched most of your RUclips posts over the years and, as a biker myself, always look forward to those related to bikes. It's so nice to watch you get excited about the bikes in your collection and your passion for bikes comes through in such a different way compared to when you talk about your cars.
Wow!
So what Honda did back in the 70s was building an engine and putting wheels on it.
I like that idea a lot!
Great bike Harry!
more than that
That’s the Honda I know, plus they got everything else right too. But their core competence was engines. Sadly now that’s not the case with their cars.
Oh, Harry. I've been waiting for this video for a long time. The CBX has always been sitting quietly in the background of your other videos, and those of us who grew up during the 70s and 80s are keenly aware of it whenever it flashes into view, if only for a second or two. I share the same point of view with you on having lived through the heyday of the Honda CB750 and the Kawasaki 900. It was a glorious time. Thank you ever so much, Harry, for sharing this beautiful piece of motorcycle history with us. Cheers
Thank you, made my day.
10 out of 10 for the filming effort and camera work.
I remember when the Honda 750 first came out. I could turn the key and go across the US and back - Never had to turn a wrench. There was just nothing else like that at the time. Unfortunately, the 1000 was just too much money for a 24 year old. Enjoy your channel very much and especially your bike content.
Sure was a good looking hot rod for an up till then A pretty conservative motorcycle co.
Fuck that machine sounds bloody awesome!!!
In 1984 or 85 there was a sidecar outfit with a CBX1000 engine at Mallory Park. We had just packed up and were sat in the van about to join the queue to leave when the sidecars started warming up for the last race of the day. On hearing this beast howling, just warming up we decided to stay and watch.
It sounded glorious, like a F1 car of that era. It seemed to be revving to more than 9500 and could be heard all the way round the circuit. As it screamed down the back straight we were wondering how just many rods and pistons it was going to eject if it revved too high.
Best sounding video from you to date. The shot of you riding into the distance then coming back looked & sounded fantastic. Keep them coming Harry. Atb.
And there he was……………gone!
Its not a motorcycle, its a work of art!
Beautiful bike, much better looking, and sounding than the overpriced plastic rubbish of today
it’s proportions are out of whack. Elegant is not the adjective for it
Harry's bike videos seriously make me want to ride. What an incredible experience to ride these classics.
Dad was a biker through and through, full basket case rebuilds, everything from an A65 Lightning Clubman to a Coventry Eagle, Bantam, Golden Flash, Commando, Bonneville, for touring loved an FJ 1200 and for speed a Super Blackbird... His friend regularly arrived on his CB 1000 and I just used to stare at it. Was blessed to be surrounded by a dozen classics but that Honda was a poster bike for me. Beautiful machine. Thank you Harry, great memories, and that sound of that six in to six, marvellous!
Wow, three of the greatest motorcycles ever made. Well done H.
Well.......they were cool & I did love em but I'd put the RD 350-400 Yamaha,Z1 Kawasaki 900 & Honda Gold wing are my 3 picks. At least of the ones I've ridden.
Absolutely brilliant! Really enjoyed that, this bike has always been a "hero" bike for me and the sound....simply incredible! Thanks for making this video!
I remember when this bike came out, H is spot on, rather like when the E Type came out in the car world, your jaw hit the floor when you saw it. Not quite a game changer, but as demonstration of engineering might and marketing nous it was a masterpiece. I lusted after this bike in a way teens just don’t understand now. The engineering was cutting edge but not beyond the comprehension of the average enthusiast, so ‘attainable’. Great to see one being ridden well and given a proper work out. Great content as usual, a man truly living the dream of many.
Riding a CBX was always a special thing to do, and no other bike since has given me the same feeling as when I owned my silver one back in the day.
I loved this. Thank you for taking the time to share this. Can’t wait to see the others!
So happy Harry is featuring bikes on his channel some more. Can’t wait for the next two! 🙏
This was the one I was waiting for. I've seen the CBX in the background on other videos and was hoping you'd do one on it. The classic Japanese bikes are my favourite genre. Look forward to the H2 and Z1300.
Those 3 bikes r like the 3 friends in high school you're parents forbid you to hang with. They're the BAD BOYZ!
Always love it when you're featuring bikes! Great stuff!
What a trio! Harry delivers yet again. Loved this one and really looking forward to the others.
Amazing sound! Not just for a bike but for anything with an engine…
It kinda reminds me of that H2 750, I loved both, fast, looked cool but other than that a dangerous death trap.
Amazing bike, always regret not having one. A bit late now as I’m nearly 70 with health issues but like you I could look at it all day Harry. Thanks for this lovely episode. Bob M. South Wales
Back on the block I had a Honda CBX 1000 chopper. It had an extended narrow glide front end with that big engine sticking out. It was all pink and purple. Crazy looking thing. I had the fastest chopper I know of in the area.
I'm seventy in October, this takes me back to the seventies, bought my first home, a brand new two bedroom ground floor flat in Berkhampstead Hertfordshire, £10.5 grand. I had a KH750. KH500 and KH 250, are all kept in the second bedroom, Happy Days thanks Harry looking forward to the KH750
Simply genius of Honda to hang the engine off the frame like that. Can you imagine how it must have felt riding a brand new one out of the showroom in '78. Still wonderful now as then!
If I recall correctly, the CX500 of the same debut year also had it's engine hung off of a frame with no downtubes. Nice stuff !
Not exactly a new idea; Harley Davidson and Vincent had engineered the engine as part of the frame many years prior. That takes nothing away from the CBX though, it was pretty jaw-dropping when it came out.
Genius? it was super wobbly and flexible, useless handling, thats why Moto Martin built a proper chassis for it. Space frame was cool to look at, and expediant for production and servicing, but engineering wise, bloody stupid.
@@garypoulton7311 I suppose that an important thing is that Honda stuck with the concept and continued to refine it. I haven't followed it closely but it seems like the later 'beam frames' that hung their engines have worked out fine. My CBR1100XX, CBR250R and former Speed Triple and ZX14R all used this and they seemed to have worked out fine. In some ways like Shimano's long quest to make indexed derailleur shifting a reality, the early attempts didn't work out so well but they stuck with it and ushered in a major change to the bicycle world.
@@garypoulton7311 Yes, you are right! The suspension looks pretty questionable, too! But, back then Honda was more of a motor company.
Love the sounds of those pipes…. Must be hard not to constantly change down and let them ‘howl’ 🤩👍
Thank you Harry for all the time and effort you put in these videos. I really enjoy them. Makes me want to ride/drive more and do more roadtrips!
Always great to see you bring the bikes out, and that's one hell of a trio!
That thing sounds supercar epic.
I know you’ve said the bike videos don’t get that many views, but this made a nice change tbh, can’t wait for the other two
Thanks for your wonderful content Harry. Your RD03 video made me want (and purchase) my own specimen as my first bike. Loving it every day!
Good choice. It’s an exceptional bike that’s easy to love and as tough as they come. Still good value too..
Same here, in fact I bought the one you mentioned at the Silverstone Auction last summer
My dad wanted a new bike and came home with a poster of all the Honda bikes back in the late 70's and the CBX just instantly stood out. It's without doubt my favourite bike of all time. My dad bought a CB200 way back then but as the years passed he went all the way up to an 1800 GoldWing. Great video Harry and despite never owning a CBX some great memories for me.
That engine was an engineering tour de force. Harry, thank you so much for sharing the visuals and sublime sound of the CBX ridden skillfully on your country lanes!
For those of us of a certain age these were the iconic bikes of the time and even harder nailed the lid of the coffin that contained the British Bike industry!
Really enjoyed the bike content Harry. Good to see you test some modern stuff, try the v4 multistrada absolutely love mine, stunning bike.
I'm always pleasantly surprised at how good Harry is at covering all the fascinating bits of history in the videos. I'm not a big motorcycle enthusiast, but found this to be quite an interesting video none the less. It's impossible not to enjoy the mechanical symphony that motor produces.
Back in the mid 1070s I bought my 1st "super" bike @ 21 years of age, the Kawasaki Z-1 900cc. It was a game changer @ that time!
Magnificent Harry. You hit the nail on the head when you talked about the high degree of Japanese technology spreading throughout the world, especially when you compared them to some of the struggling porridge Britain had to offer. Britain had a go trying to revive it's motorcycle industry by rehashing some of the old Triumph twin models, or with the new Hesketh, which were all doomed sadly.
Again, brilliant bike, and awesome sound from the six into six.
Looking forward to the test on the widow maker h2.
Love this! I've been using my Z1300 rather a lot this year. The noise is addictive!
My z1300 has an epic soundtrack too and it’s on standard pipes!
I had one in the late eighties and into the early nineties in South Africa. Then I emigrated in 1992 and had to sell it. Always regretted not taking it with me. Keep up the great content, Harry, and the preservation of masterpieces like this.
Great sound from that exhaust system! I rode a CBX in the USA in 1981 and found its motor sublime. I was touring America on a BMW 1000 and the difference in performance and smoothness was striking.
Lovely riding Harry. Loved this vlog. What a beautiful sounding inline engine bike. 😊👍
Please do more such videos.
Yes, looking forward to the big two stroke.
@@michaelcrouch5708 I rode the Yamaha 350 twin 2 stroke at age 15. I still cannot forget the wild ride. The sound it made still echoes my ears. 2 strokes are crazy.
Wow! What a Bike! Those 6 exhausts seen from the rear look brilliant! Wait a minute? What on earth is passing by at 12.52 ? I see a lot has gone into making this video!👍🏾
Excellent work Harry. Salute to your chase car driver/cameraman as well. I love these motorcycle videos and I deeply appreciate you sharing them with us. Thank you.
Thanks so much for going through the history of this beauty. The CBX 1000 is the best sounding bike ever made. It reminds me of an F355, beautiful sound..
great sound
Stunning. I remember when a local lad had one of these and with the six into six, your video brings it all back to me. Fantastic video. I love the fact you still ride it like you stole it Harry. Brilliant
Always love your bike vids Mr. M, keep them coming !!
I am sure Allen Millyard must have a V12 version he built in his shed!
Great bike, I always wanted a CB900F when I was a kid.
The CB750F and later CB900F were my first “WOW” moments in biking, late 70s!!
Saw one of these at Beaulieu last week. I’m not a biker and this really stands out amongst the other bikes on show. The engine and exhausts are a work of art
Love, love, love this video! Great to see you ‘stretching its legs’ can’t wait to see the other two seventies bikes out on the road. Thankyou for posting. Keep up the great work!!
Just wow. I can see why you kept the 6 into 6. It sounds glorious!
When the CBX first came out, I was downtown with a friend on our CB400Fs during the F1 GP weekend in Montréal. Huge crowd, heavy traffic, party atmosphere. We found ourselves riding next to this guy on a brand new CBX fitted with an aftermarket 6 into 1 exhaust. It was loud ! there is a meme about bike exhausts setting off car alarms, but this really happened, to the general hilarity of the crowd. A couple of years later, I was at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the Formula One race when there was a demonstration lap by a Honda 250 6 cylinder GP bike which had been left behind at the end of the 1967 GP season as a gift for our centennial, at the time this was the only one that was in running condition and one of the very few original survivors in the world. You absolutely could hear every single gear change everywhere on the track. The sound of a CBX at 9-10,000rpm is glorious. Now imagine a smaller, but very similar engine at close to 20,000rpm. Unforgettable.
Every CBX video I come across instantly reminds me of the sound of Sixties Formula 1 engines and Ferrari V 12’s. Amazing!
A car alarm was definitely not common back then so those must have been nice cars too.
@@mediocreman2 I don't specifically remember what the cars were, but one of the features of downtown Montréal during the F1 weekend is that Saturday evening on rue Ste-Catherine is where all the rare and expensive cars gather, so, yes, they probably were.
Is the GP bike the one that was in the Science Centre in Toronto?
The most fun I have seen you having for some time. Fantastic!
WOW! What an amazing sound from the CBX ! Awesome video as always
Sounds great.. you forgot to mention the two piece cams. Also worth noting that they handle better on one wheel (just don't keep there to long cause the crankshaft will run dry), but hey! You could say that about more than a few bikes from the 70s 😀👍
I think that factoid would wash over 99% of the viewers! I cut in the bit about all the electrical moving from the end of the crank to above the gearbox at the last minute, as I thought people should be aware Honda did their best to keep the engine as narrow as possible, unlike Kawasaki did on the Z1300!
I remember the literal rocket-ship sensation - and the amazing smoothness - of the CBX when I got the chance to ride a friend's example in 1980. It actually lifted the front wheel if I sat further back on the seat in low speed hard acceleration! For such a massive machine it handled surprisingly well and wasn't as intimidating as I had expected - even coming from my own 350cc Yamaha two-stroke twin! I readily admit to being very jealous of my classmate at college... Thank you, Mikkel!!!
Lovely to see the bikes being featured Harry, that 6 into 6 on the Honda sounds incredible.
In the early 80s, as a schoolboy, I used to go and watch my art teacher, Jim Tiller, race his Allard at Brighton Speed Trials, but my favourite thing to watch were the guys on the CBXs racing. The sound is just indescribable. Amazing! Dream bike.
ETA: another amazing sounding 70s muscle bike was, of course, the Jota. My brother and about eight of his mates all had them at the same time, and you could hear them from about two miles away!
LOVE that bike...adore the sound.
One question though Harry: What was that bizzarre little four wheeler you passed at 12:52?
yes .. what was that ?
Some sort of motorised pram?😂
I thought it was a quad bike at first. But, on second look, it appears to have been Mad Maxed up a bit! :-0
@@WizzardPrang 😄. YES!!!!!!
It even has a hood! 😬 .... which didn't seem very sensible to me.....🤔...at speed.
@@nicksanders1119 Indeed. Like a cross between a quad and a pram......🤨
What was that that passed by at 12:54 ? it looked like a Light Car Company Rocket !
As soon as I saw the title I grabbed my headphones. Wonderful video. Thanks much!
Totally agree, the seventies were a special time for bikes, never to be repeated. A maniac in the late 80's used to Weeley a CBX with open pipes all the way down our high street every day, It looked and sounded spectacular ! One day however he overcooked it a little and couldn't stop in time and crashed into the barriers at the end of the road ! 😯
We need more 2 stroke and 6 cyl bikes...
The Honda CBX is the same as a Ferrari: you buy the engine and get the rest of the bike for free.
My first motorcycle was a Yamaha TZR 125 two stroke but I wish I had it today, The seventies and Eighties had some glorious motorcycles
Hmmmmm - I think I had the honour of being passed by Mr.M on that bike one day. It sat behind me for a couple of miles until oncoming traffic had gone, I moved a bit to the left and the howl as it vanished into the horizon was just pure magic.
I was obsessed with the Kawasaki 750 when I was 8 or 9 because of the Polistil model I had - can’t wait for that video.
I was 15 when the CBX arrived and it got me all excited then .... and still does. Great video on a great bike and very envious.
First off, thanks for the excellent CBX video! It's truly one of the best I've seen and I love the fact that you're properly pushing the bike and letting us hear that glorious sound. You're also pushing it in the corners - something I love to do on my vintage bikes. It's easy to go fast on a GSX-R but ripping it up on a vintage motorcycle takes finesse and you demonstrated your riding ability in the corners (straight-line speed is easy).
I have watched and enjoyed your car videos and always wanted to see videos on the bikes in the background. I'm looking forward to seeing a similar on the KZ1300. Thanks again and please keep the bike videos coming!
Thank you for this! I actually asked for the bikes to be featured when I saw them in the corner a few videos ago☺ amazing sound. Really looking forward to the next two
Some of the shots on the accelerations with the bike look tremendous. Thanks Harry :) Loved the video and the sound.
I had a red 79 cbx n nothing could stay with it at the time. Lots of fond memories
I love the compilation exhaust sound videos of these absolutely amazing bikes.
Brilliant that Harry, thoroughly enjoyed that! Must get me a ride on one of those one day…you know where I am if you want some help with helmet mic set up 😉
Yes!! This is the video series I've been waiting for Harry! Very excited
Your bike videos are the best thing on RUclips! Loved learning about the CBX 😍🏍️
16 minute video, Money shot ( sound ) in first 10 seconds. Fabulous.
My neighbour had one of these in the late 70's, after doing the full Honda upgrade path, 250N, 500 Four, 750 k?, 900 something,., then got got overtaken by Kawasaki Z1000, and Suzuki GSXR1000 , and offered a good trade in on a CBX. We always had people visiting to admire it. He loved the attention.
Think Honda had a 6 cylinder 250 at the TT in the 60's ( about 40 miles from me) , so they have form.
So good to see some more bike vids, keep them coming Harry!
Harry, thank you for doing this.
I might have left a random comment or so in your videos over the years for a CBX review.
Pretty excited for the H2 as well!
Hopefully one day both find a space in my collection. Just brilliant stuff.
I've always wanted one of these but they are insanely rare and insanely valuable, great to see one out being used!
Watch all your videos Harry, but the 2 wheel content is always my favorite, rare as it is. I look forward to the other two bikes! Keep doing what you are doing!
Great to see some bikes a refreshing change, thanks for sharing.
It is simply the most beautiful piece of motorcycle engineering art ever created. I remember seeing it- a red one like Harry’s- on a revolving stand in a place in the Isle of Man, at the 1978, i think, TT Races. I walked a couple miles several times that week from the campsite at the bottom of Bray Hill just to look at it. Looking at one now makes so happy .
Great Video Harry I’ve been looking at those bikes in the background for ages, pleased you’ve got around to making videos about them.👍👍👍
What an absolutely glorious sound.
My #1 dream bike. Can't wait to have one myself. Thanks for making this. Not enough videos on the CB1000!
i was waiting for this video for too long. thanks sir!
Thanks for that Harry, it was just the Sunday pick me up I needed. What a glorious symphony!!!
Not a bike person but that was one of Harry's most exhilarating videos ever. The sense of speed is fantastic from helmet cam and you can feel the acceleration as the bike monsters along from bend to bend. Add to that the sound and the beautiful late evening photography (kudos to the camera person) and you have a video that prods the soul. Great, great video Harry.
you would make a great bike person
I’ve been waiting for you to do this bike video since I first saw it in your garage. It was worth the wait. What a sound! Truly an amazing vehicle. Well done. Looking forward to the other bikes but love a Honda and the CBX is one of the best.
I test rode one of these in the 90s, with Kirker exhausts, and it became my forever favorite bike.
