    Jay is a real pro! Tough crowd of corporate stiffs and he does 57 minutes straight. Some funny, some not, but every joke is on time with perfect delivery. Great video!

    After Jay finishes his act, the CEO of Motorola comes out, asks everyone to give Jay a round of applause. Then when the fanfare dies down, the CEO says: “Thank you for attending. We now are announcing mass layoffs. Pick up your pink slip and free ham on your way out of the auditorium. You’ve been a great employee/audience. Drive home safely.”

      They are corporate androids in the 90's, their humanity had been utterly subjugated.

    All the stories I heard from Jay about his parents and how old fashioned they were (and how unusual they were, Jay's mom is scottish, Jay's mom is Italian) makes me really understand how surreal it must have been for him.

    • @teresaaitha6256
      @teresaaitha6256 4 месяца назад

      Jay’s two mommies? Haha j/k. I like when Jay would talk about his parents being Italian and Scottish-it’s not such a rare combination! I remember the joke he told on The View about when he bought his parents a Cadillac; he said his mother would sit in the passenger seat and wave at people in other cars just to tell them “we’re not really Cadillac people.” Then an argument would ensue with the father.

    Damn, Jay was burning right through all his material. Like he wanted out of that gig as fast as possible. Must've been paid in advance. Old stuff, too, like the Mr. Potatohead bit.

    I've seen old folks like Jay Leno's parents. It's frustrating to talk to them. They don't even know computers are invented. They even have problem using phones made in the 70s. Having parents & grandparents who mentally live in the 18th century is the most painful experience in life, more painful than being in the middle of a forest fires & mudslids at the same time.
    Poor Jay; I really empathize with him.

    If OJ happened today, Jay would be instructed to not mention it at all. What I'm noticing is how much material they're letting Jay get away with. Plus the black tie thing.

      And your reason is what?

    • @LucasKombo
      @LucasKombo 11 месяцев назад +1

      Comedy is comedy. And the old guys had a way longer leash. Each generation, the powers that be have chipped away further, and further at the things we’re allowed to say. Jokes are jokes. They don’t mean anything. They’re not hurtful. They can be, sure. But it still means nothing. That’s the freedom of it. Sometimes jokes are the only thing that can get uncomfortable topics out into the open so people can talk about them. And little by little, we’ve lost that.
      Jay Leno used to be mocked, because he was arguably the most gifted stand up comic of his generation, and he dumbed himself down for NBC executives. But compared to what’s being often called comedy today, he looks like a legend, and that is so depressing.

    Leno was speeding through every joke. It is so obvious especially after seeing todays comedians like Dave Chappelle who calmly and carefully disarms the audience. The comedians up until 2001 were mostly loud and jittery such as Sam Kinison, Leno, Lenny Bruce, Chris Farley and Lewis Black. Past comedians that seemed calm and confident were comedians like Eddie Murphy, Andy Kaufman, Mitch Hedberg, Seinfeld, Pryor, Carlin, Red Fox and David Brenner. The rest were mostly annoying to watch.

      Be fair tho, u ever spoke for this long? Fast talking for an hour is a bunch of materials. He’s got good stuff in there though. I saw this era Leno. He was funny.
      Hedberg is my guy but no way he could have done an hour like this. He pauses a lot too. Leno underrated. He’s def not the best by any stretch, but he does it.

    • @oldcremona

      He's going fast because the lame crowd isn't laughing much.

    • @___David___Savian
      @___David___Savian 5 месяцев назад

      @@oldcremona The job of comedy is not up to the crowd. Even Chappelle and Jerry Seinfeld have said that if the crowd does not laugh it's the professional comedians fault. He is the one that has to win them over. The crowd doesn't have to do anything except be honest on whether they think the comedian is funny or not.

      How old are you making a comment like that? I’m a fan of Bob Hope, Jack Benny, George Burns and Groucho Marx and I found this set hilarious. I graduated high school in 1995 and lived through all these stories. It was great hearing the comical side of things!
