My son’s been tagging along for years hiking since about 10 I think. He was our grouse getter for a long time until he could pull 55#. Now he’s up to 65# but just not enough time to hunt as a senior in HS. We did two days spike camp (rugged and very cool first) which was a mountain of beauty but no opportunities this year. Watching your time together with all your kids made my heart hope that when my Gabe takes his first elk with a bow I’ll be at his side too. I expect he’ll tell the story just as Sam...”we saw the bull, I shot it, what do you want me to say”. Priceless! We too all love to retell the story in camp. Gabe, share what happened?...pause...”You tell it dad”...so I start with “the earth cooled...” Hes slowly getting the confidence. By the way, in watching BRO and ElK101 I’ve been wondering what the heck do you all do with all that meat ?

Even without having the shots on film I'm sure Sam will remember it vividly for the rest of his life. There's been a lot of cool things that have happened in my 54 years and I've forgotten a good many of them, but I can still see every detail from first seeing the first ever (Mule deer buck) I killed at the ripe ole age of 11, to finally getting him back to camp, hung up, skinned and bagged. That first miss sounds like a classic case of buck, or should I say, bull fever. A true sign that the excitement level was very high. Way to go Sam.
