  • Corey and Donnie locate a big herd bull and spend most of the day hiking to the top of the mountain to get above the elk. Once there, they set up for an intense call-in, that has Corey at full draw as the big bull steps into his shooting lane at 25 yards.

Just wanted to thank Corey and Donnie for sitting down in this video and giving us an insight into what they eat on a long day and week of hunting, it gave me a pretty good idea of what to take on my over the counter high country mule deer hunt this year. One of the best series to gather information that I haven't thought of to put into my hunting assortment. Thank you guys and keep up the incredible videos.

I firmly believe the public appreciates accounts of reality more than a constant barrage of kill shots, which is totally unrealistic. Thank you for your commitment to showing what is real, successes and failures. Thankful for your fight to maintain positive attitudes throughout!

listening to your comments at the end of the clip reminded me of how I've felt when I come so close and get nailed by a game of inches. You are absolutely right, it is deflating. I am a solo hunter and that feeling of failure to connect can drive a hunter right out of the woods. You are so fortunate to have the brotherhood you have with Donnie and the others you hunt with to help steel your heart and keep you going.. I love your content. It helps knowing I am not alone in my thoughts even though I am alone in the woods.. Stay strong and fill that freezer.. :)

Corey no need to describe the feeling, if you archery hunt elk for any length of time you surely have experienced the same emotions. We would all like to be successful when we invest that much time and effort but look at the bright side, slow down look around and appreciate the amazing country you are surrounded by and the opportunity to be in elk if you are willing to put in the work. In taking that shot i think it was the bendover of that stump that took your shot off , if it had been just a stump i belive your shot would of hit it's target. One of the greatest mature bull elk pursuits I have ever seen, from the initial game plan at the base of the mountain to the final approach, step by step perfection, calling, communication and shooter positioning relative to the bulls attitude and location was legendary. Right shot at the right moment, smart bulls make their luck sometimes! Just as awesome as a kill shot, because it illustrates the fine line of survival in the wild for the hunter and the hunted! You guys are legendary elk hunters, thanks for sharing the passion!

If it makes you feel any bit better, and I don't think it would me, but it all least shows us that even the best elk hunters can go through bad steaks! I know you don't look at yourselves as professionals, but we do, and your still one of the people I look up to and learn from! I know your gonna break that steak, and I can't wait to see it!
