- Low% True Ending in Hollow Knight is one of the most cursed speedrun categories ever conceived. It involves killing countless enemies in order to obtain a currency from an rng drop that is normally gotten from bosses to unlock the true final boss. This takes over 40 hours.
After completing a run a couple years back, I never thought I'd return for another one. But sadly, speedrunners discovered new strategies that lowered the minimum completion percent, making my old run not the actual lowest percent. This video is me fixing that.

I did a horrified double take at the start when I saw Radiance as a 44 hour split then I heard the word "grind" and it all made sense.
The editing during the grind was so on point. And then the funeral left me absolutely dead. Bury me with the bees.
The weirdest thing about this run is that theoretically, if you got insanely, unnaturally lucky, you could easily do it in just a couple hours

@@tetrawaffle337 Because then Dream Wielder would no longer be gotten along the way to getting ADN, so would be deemed Non-Essential. Thus making the Grind For Essence much longer as Wielder raises the drop rate from 1/300 to 1/200. Dream Shield does not raise the drop rate.
@@tetrawaffle337 Dream wielder is a percent. it's only allowed now because it's something you get on the journey to awakened dream nail, so it can't be avoided. If it was easier to get it would also no longer be mandatory and the run would have to go without it.
@@tegxi Yes, it is on the way to getting it, but that's not how it's decided. It's only allowed because people haven't submitted a run that hasn't used it. If someone dared to use the bad odds, the required percentage for low% would go down and it'd supercede all current runs + increase the length of the run significantly. The real pain begins when someone gets dream luck without using it, and now it's required to not use it AND get lucky.
@@noragilman2643 But it's different because it's literally impossible to submit a run (that follows the NMG rules) that doesn't get the percent for Dream Wielder. It's not just that no one has "dared" yet

The deepnest of runs
I had recently done wingless white palace for a challenge then I happened upon your video from 2 years ago where wings were still required for low% te. I was thinking about doing a low% te run then saw this video in that one’s recommended lol. Thank you for saving me ~47 hours of essence grinding.
I remember when the guay skip was found in OoT for a low% strat. Hours of guay hovering where missing a single one within those hours, would cost you to start over. And it's random how many you need, and you can't see if it's good enough, so you have to gamble how long you want to do it vs. how safe you want to be.
Low% runs are truly cursed.
Hollow Knight's Low% run doesn't involve any significant RNG though, it's only Low% TE that's so cursed.
While i do agree with your point, I do need to point out that guay hover was not a low% strat, but instead a max% child strat

For Skurry to go from 506 essence to 1800 essence grinding bees with Dream Wielder equipped, they took from the start of their grind at 1:44:17 in their run (23:01 in the video) to the end of their grind at 49:28:57 in their run (26:23 in the video), that's a duration of 47:44:40 to grind 1294 essence with a 1 in 200 chance for each. So that's approximately 258,800 enemies in 171,880 seconds, which is a rate of about 1.5 bees per second on average, or around 2 minutes and 13 seconds per essence on average.

You know, I think this'd be an interesting GDQ run if you did it with "perfect" RNG on the bees to skip the grind. The tricks involved with the platforming and working around missing wings in White Palace make it pretty snazzy.
I think Skurry should just sit in the corner of the room and do the run, while the Event ist going on.
Throwing out some numbers: Skurry started their grind getting the 507th essence at 1:44:30 and ending at their 1800th at 49:29:00, making their average 1 essence per 2 minutes 24 seconds! Sadly this does still mean that killing Marissa's ghost is a time save 😭👻🎶

Low% TE is now based around bees, it might be a bit of a downgrade compared to killing birds in Greenpath (the best location), but it’s nice to see bees get some sort of mention in popular Hollow knight speed run categories.

You mean Low% TE. Plain Low% is a sub-1h run that doesn't involve any essence.

@@KR_Kosmik well now there's a new minimum percent so all old runs aren't actually min percent. If I'm not mistaken they'll be kept on the leaderboard, just under the new min% runs, regardless of if their time is better.

Just finished watching through all the VODs for this a few weeks ago. Even the "boring" parts of the grind were a great time! Skurry's first Low% TE video resulted in an annoying number of people who honestly thought "Low%" referred to this meme run even though Low% is a completely different category (about which Skurry actually also made a video), hence my plea to not omit the "TE".
@@MatthijsvanDuin You know, I was originally just going to put 'speedrun' but then thought nah, I should be more descriptive even if it messes with the flow of the joke. Wording is very important when it comes to a joke's flow.
I'll be honest, the wording in your plead kind of annoyed me. It came off as pushy and tired, like you disdain my very existence (or at least, my comment's existence.) People get defensive when pushed and I was guilty of that last night. I'm sorry for that. If I may make a suggestion if someone else makes the same mistake I made? Use kinder wording. Something like, "Hey, could you say low% TE instead of just low%? When you use that term it undermines the hard work of grinding for essence that goes with the low% True Ending." Or something akin to that anyways.
I mean, I assume that's why it annoyed you. I can't know for sure unless you tell me, but that's none of my business. You're your own thoughts and feelings and I'm not a therapist.
@@bluefireblood666 No disdain was intended certainly, it was meant as nothing more than what I wrote: a kind request to please not confuse the two (by calling low% TE just "low%") since they're just completely different things.
My concern is the reverse of what you're suggesting: low% TE is a silly multi-day meme run that's almost pure RNG, while low% is a main speedrun category on the leaderboards.
Hadn't played or watched Hollow Knight in a while - What kind of insanity is that :o I'm so impressed that you (rself + other speedrunners and community) have pushed the game so far and discovered all of these incredible exploits and barely achievable platforming skips, congratz!!
