    I wasn't very clear in the video on why I drain the coolant from above rather than down below. It's because you only have to drain a tiny amount this way and then top it up afterward. I also recently changed my coolant last year when I did my water pump so why replace it as it's still perfectly good.
    Another thing I forgot to mention in this video was the bleed procedure. You want to do that after you top off the coolant:
    Inside the car, put the key in the ignition, foot OFF the brake, hit the start button. This turns the ignition on. Set your HVAC fan speed to low, temperature to maximum, center button (in the middle of the vents) to hot. Push down on the gas pedal all the way and hold it for 10 seconds. The automatic bleed procedure should be going. You can look inside your coolant reservoir and you should see it spraying out. You can see this procedure in detail by clicking here:

    For anyone recently watching, I just did this on my 08 328xi, I messed up the first go by pinching the o-ring. I recommend using grease around the flange and o-ring to lube it up, which should pop right in. Make sure to use even pressure when pushing it in, to offset the chance of pinching or turning the ring.

    Thank you Jason, the cooling system on BMW is a big headache. Practically everything is made of hard plastic. I just replaced the 2 heater coolant pipes on my E46 330ci. Its always good to replace the parts that you will need to replace in the near future since you are there already. Again thanks for your videos. They help.

    Every time I see one of these videos I comment, If you order the ebay generic one DO NOT USE the worm gear clamp that is sent with the aluminum piece. Tightened correctly it can break and dump all the coolant the same as if the original fitting broke. Use a good Breeze or equivalent clamp. It looks like the Rein flange has this addressed.

    • @xanderkhan
      @xanderkhan 4 месяца назад

      Thanks alot, only issue is i can't find such a clamp as a separate product. Can't "ebay" clamps really be tightened well enough so they doesn't break? Thanks

    • @justinp2993
      @justinp2993 4 месяца назад

      @xanderkhan that's the problem you get them tight enough to hold and then somewhere down the road it gives out and the line blows off. The first one I did held a few days and gave up. Literally, any parts store should have a much better clamp cheap and on the shelf.

    I PROMISE YOU I PROMISE YOU I PROMISE YOU. Guys that piece will break the first time you ever touch it. I recently replaced my radiator and hoses and it mushed like wet sand in my hands as soon as I pulled on it. It was like one of those "Is it cake or real" videos. So glad my gut feeling told me to get an aluminum one before I started that job and ended up stranded.

    Did you have to add more coolant ?

  • @gchroniger1589
    @gchroniger1589 2 месяца назад

    WARNING Do not remove the OEM hose clamp the way he did. The pieces will fall down into your cooling system get lodged somewhere and block the flow of coolant. You can now buy a replacement hose with the metal flange. I recommend that route. If you want to add just the flange remove the hose completely before attempting to separate the clamp and flange. A lot of coolant comes out from the bottom so be prepared for that or have something ready to cap it off.

    Yup, this coolant flange along with an aftermkt aluminum valve cover are must do on the n52..too bad there's no improved design for the Behr coolant expansion tank, that crack too...the aftermkt oil filter aluminum cap from Uro is not mandatory but a nice have

    • @wankersonwhisky
      @wankersonwhisky Год назад +1

      for the URO oil filter cap... how does that help? it's the internal plastic bits that break, never seen the top part itself crack or break :/ seems like a cosmetic thing more than a reliability thing

    Anyone know a good source for buying Tyco V23084-C2001-A303 Relays for the E46 GM5 module? I see them online but they all seem to ship from China.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  Год назад +1

      I bought some from an eBay seller a year ago (www.ebay.com/itm/391187175435). I waited, they arrived. The relays are soldered on both the back and front of the PCB and they have a lacquer on the back. I first tried dissolving off the lacquer with solvents, which did work but created a huge mess and never really removed all of it. I then tried several methods for desoldering by hand and while I was able to get that work, it took SOOOOO long. Honestly what worked best was a $120 desoldering gun (this thing here amzn.to/3FVT0jw), but even using that, sometimes it didn't get absolutely all of the solder out so it was also helpful to have a $40 hot air rework station to get everything hot all at once and melt the last remaining bit that was holding the old relays on. And even having that equipment, there is still a chance you might rip one of the pads off the board. I am still planning on making a video but honestly, after acquiring all the proper soldering tools necessary to do the job and doing a test run to figure out what works and what doesn't, I think it is absolutely worth it to use this guy's services instead: www.bmwgm5.com/ -- particularly if you are not very skilled in soldering and don't have all of this specialized equipment. Just pay him the $100 and be done with it lol.

    Hi Jason! Sorry to comment on a new video! I was given a 330xi with an m54. I've been following your awesome videos and I found a chunk of metal in the intake manifold. It rattled around in cylinder four and bent the valve but I need to know where that came from. Any suggestions are great. I'm willing to chat and pay you for your time. Let me know the best way to get ahold of you! Thanks for all you do for the BMW community!!

      Probably what’s left of the pin from the DISA valve. Common problem, if it gets bad the pin comes loose and does a lot of damage. Replace your DISA valve.
