- Geoff Keighley held my Fatal Fury trailers hostage again. Gamescom was such a boring event I had to switch it off before it ended, but it did bear fruit in exciting news for COTW! Mai has finally been shown, as well as another trailer that reveals a bunch of new info.

I honestly thought Mai, Kyo and Chizuru went clothes shopping given Mai's new fit. Plus, it's a reference to older artworks of her in casual clothes like KoF:KYO. Fun Fact if you don't know: Mai favorite type of music is Metal.
Considering the base game + DLC is $60 and there’s no non-DLC bundle option, I have no idea why they didn’t just say it’s a 17 character roster and the first 5 DLC characters are free
I think they were too afraid to say "17 characters" without saying "TECHNICALLY 22 :)" first because 17 is a pretty low base roster size compared to other recent games. But it just comes across as misleading lol
Yeah it's weird but I do appreciate they are taking the Melty Blood approach of free dlc, given the first two are summer 2025 it's probably the Kim twins
@@JohnSexDDIt's not really that low compared to most 2D fighter base rosters. SF6 having 18 isn't really that much better than 17, Strive launched with 17, Type Lumina launched with 14, SF5 launched with 16, it's basically only sequels/revisions and mega franchises like Tekken and Mortal Kombat that get bigger rosters than that out the gate. They're hitting a generally average number for a 1v1 game. The first season of DLC being free puts them ahead of most other games too, tbh.
But they literally said 17+5 in the trailer. That number isn’t even bad for year 1.
It took me too long to realize that the stage Terry and Rock are fighting in is Mac's Bar, Jack Turner's stage in AOF and AOF2 lol
Mai the Biker Girl is just perfect. SF6 has big shoes to fill.
Fatal Fury series going modern with multiple costumes is awesome and full colour edit is just pure elation. And the DLC has me high up in hopes for legacy characters🤞🤞🤞
The trailer says its 17 + 5 = 22, wouldn't say they "lied". Season 1 characters are basically free since the "Special Edition" is the only edition for the normal price.
Half a Year ago we got the picture teaser of Terry, Andy and Joe iwith new clothes. I think after Gato, Hokutomaru and Kain, these are the 3 that will end up in the base roste. Remaining one place.
However, like you said, it feels like the DLC were supposed to be Main Roster too, so I think SNK the devs might mix up some of the characters just so we have more varried characters for the start.
yeah preecha's science museum level seems based on the one in miami that has a bunch of nasa stuff. which makes sense because south town is basically alt-miami in the same way that metro city is basically alt-nyc.
Mai looks great and i hope the change sadisfied much weeping childs of the community,for me it is all perfect,i don’t want more of,this amount of work is already huge and for me is felt.There will be future expansions and the missing faces will return surely(to say,Rick).Snk staff have much pressure on their shoulders already,they will surely improve all the sections.
Man I can’t wait for this game and I can’t wait for when they announce Gato because I want to know if they are gonna change his design and see if he’s gonna be blind because of his arcade ending and if they are gonna give him new moves.
I could definitely see the Kim brothers being that Summer 2025 DLC release to make room for Andy and Joe. My ideal scenario would be Kim bros and Freeman getting the boot so we could also squeeze Blue Mary in for base roster but I’m not betting on that. Part of me wonders what Street Fighter characters SNK will have in CoTW since they were a no-show for KOFXV.

I think the rest of the characters are Andy, Joe, Kain, Hokutmaru, Gato, and Geki (Gato's Father) since he was supposed to be played in the canceled garou 2.

Gato might not be a part of base roster. Hotaru is talking to Preecha in story mode.
Good point. I figured Gato was too popular to not be base but that might be the exact reason they make him DLC as well
Gato getting voice dropped with every other char in the Evo teaser we've seen other than the two newcomers makes me think otherwise

The fighter DLC being free is standing out to me. Aren't DLC sales important for fighting game companies? If the fighters aren't paid DLC, then what is?
More custom colors? Patterns? Entire costumes?
I will drop a lot of money into this game if DLC is only cosmetics.
So far all characters announced came from the official artworks and the trailer with the voice lines. Everyone, no one excluded. And counting them turns out to be 16, the exact number of characters on the launch roster (plus the 17th who will be the final boss). Andy, Joe, Gato, Hokutomaru, Kain (midboss?), and the villain.
For the DLCs (unfortunately) I believe that priority will be given to discarded MotW warriors, except MAYBE Grant. So Kim Dong, Kim Jae and Freeman for sure. Plus two more slots.
i find it interesting that tizoc's logo there also seems to involve raiden elements-the color scheme, the lightning bolts. is raiden his manager, maybe? do they have a sort of partnership?

They got Mai Shiranui looking like she works for SHIELD. I LOVE IT!! Mai Shiranui and Terry Bogard are my lifetime mains. It's epic that my first Fighting Game, Fatal Fury 1, will be my last game I buy, ever, with COTW.

All the news for the game got me so excited, the jukebox having Wild Ambition makes me very happy
Admittedly I wish they phrased the roster size better in the trailer, but that’s counterbalanced slightly by the first season being given away for free. For the roster, I’ve assumed Andy and Joe were making base roster entirely because of them appearing on that one poster when the game was first revealed, seeing as Billy didn’t have his new design when he was shown on another I’m hoping Joe gets a bit more of a rework. Personally, I’m hoping for some kind of beard or moustache. I do not know why I want Joe to have facial hair, but it sounds entertaining.
With the first two dlc characters being released in “summer 2025” I could probably say that those are Andy and Joe, but if it were the Kim bros then the more simultaneous release would make more sense because they’re more linked as characters? I’m still gonna hope Andy and Joe are here
Kind of excited that Mai may actually be getting real agency separate from Andy (hopefully.) I'm really curious if there will be side stories through Arcade or something else, a moldable non-canon story through the RPG mode, big canon story that unfolds through the RPG, or just all lore in there like WT for SF6.
Hope we get a big surprise for the last couple base roster characters that aren't KOFXV/MOTW ones. Recently I was going back to Kurosawa movies and I had this big conspiracy belief that Geese's Rashomon has been a hint all this time that what we've been told about what happened to him wasn't the complete story. Anyway, I could really see him, Krauser, or Marie as playable. Would love if Rick makes it in, and I'm still hoping for Blue Mary and Yamazaki to get the Kevin and Marco connections.
They're killing it on the OST and all the charm. Not sure how they got hate for it but I love that they're giving the DLC for free! French Bread and SNK really killing it on the player-focused practices.

As for whose left to be revealed for the base roster, there are 6 spaces left, Gato and Hokutomaru were voice clips in that one trailer so they're shoe ins and Kain, Joe + Andy were in the first lot of concept art so that brings us to 16. The final character could be anyone, a newcomer? Blue Mary? Rick Strowd? who knows. As for the 2 summer dlc, I wouldn't be surprised if they were both Street Fighter characters (please not the boring choices of Ryu and Chun, I'd rather see Akuma and Juri)
I don't remember hearing Hokutomaru. I swear we heard Andy. Not to mention him and Joe have new designs already. I think it's only 2 characters left we don't yet know.
It was actually Hokutomaru since Andy has never used the super the voice line is from, whereas Hokutomaru does. He's just a little older sounding so a lot of people confused it with Andy (including me at first)

I dont like Tizoc's theme but Hotaru's I enjoy. The chrous part i liked and didnt sound like a buildup part like you described to me at all. but im also just a big fan of those type of wind instruments so thats probably why.
I would have thought mai would have been named mai bogard and married to andy at this point but since her last name is still shiranui tells me andy still hasnt done a damn thing😂 and the fact that they are both in their mid thirties tells me it isnt looking good it could still happen or maybe andy name is now andy shiranui but if its been 10 years from their last entry to cotw and nothing has happened then i just gotta know wtf where these two doing that whole time ?

Though with all that said i wonder how hokutomaru will fit in the story with them since andy trained him and didnt mai train him as well ? Very curious how snk will handle this i just hope they do it right cause andy needs a win for once in his life.😂

OST I definitely need more time with the game but I am enjoying the snippets for sure and I like the rock theme and appreciate the new style because hes the face now and I love preescha and Tizoc themes as well

You could easily explain away the two summer dates as being Andy and Joe because they have a lot of assets they can move over from XV, not to mention I also am a crackhead and think the fifth DLC slot is either a new character or a guest but that is just me

Honestly…the final slots could be anybody….The Final Boss has to be a Female considering SamSho 2019 & KOF XV…It’s either Another Howard Child or Marie Heinlein like you posited.
They gotta stop being cowards and show us Mid-Teens Hokutomaru Already.
Also big brainprediction….considering they voiced Bakuryu in the Bloody Roar II Mod…Hokutomaru is probably going to be voiced by Casey Mongillo…NGL I would pop hard…Modding a Fighting Game & Voicing a Bishonen Ninja to Voicing a Bishonen Ninja in a revived fighting game.
But yeah…April 2025 can’t come fast enough!
17 isn't terrible if you compare it to streetfighter which launched with 18. It is nice to also get the first 5 dlc characters included.
I think the main reason why 17 feels bad is because KOF has always had massive rosters. But this isn't a KOF game, it's a Fatal Fury game.

DOOMING IS CURED WITH THE RPG SINGLEPLAYER MODE. COLOR EDIT IS LOOKING ALREADY BETTER THAN THE KOF XI, XIII AND SNK HEROINES COLOR EDIT. WE BACK 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️. Yeah the music themes so far for COTW I don't like it, which is surprising since XV had great music directions, the arrangements of previous themes do sound better tho
