All of today’s quilts are so pretty. When I made my very first quilt I didn’t have a pattern so made a bunch of half square triangles and sewed them together in a way I found pleasing. I took it to a local quilt shop & the lady asked how long I’d been quilting. I told her that was my first quilt and she pointed out flying geese, etc in the quilt. I didn’t know what any of those were except the half square triangle. I signed up for a class to make the Underground Railroad quilt block of the month. I learned so much!
Honestly, I’ve seen you and your mother many times but I’ve never actually kept you as a favorite; but you are a favorite now I enjoy your videos. I enjoy your patterns. I’m going to order from you, but I do want to tell you Hannah is such an inspiration and a joy to watch because I am also still learning and it’s fun to watch pieces by pieces with you girls all three of these are fantastic. I much appreciate you being on RUclips, and in the quilt stores, I’ve seen your quilts books and your recent quilts
I just want Hannah and Donna know how much I enjoy this video. Not only are they informative but also entertaining. Thank you both so much. Going to miss you at the Hampton show. Take care!!
I absolutely love batik fabrics. They are my favorite. I love it when you have pieces and parts. Today's quilts are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Have an amazing week.
Early in my quilting, instead of cutting off the quarter inch to fold the the corner back. I cut it the other way and cut the hole corner off of my block. Good thing I had a lot of fabric! Lesson learned! Thank you for sharing all those beautiful quilts and your knowledge
It’s interesting that you say beginners are “afraid”, and “only want squares” at 0:13 - I’ve been sewing for 10+ years and have purposely avoided quilting because I had never seen a quilt I liked. Then one day on Pinterest I saw a scrappy freestyle patchwork quilt of only squares. And then, another of only half square triangles. I thought “omg! Finally a quilt I like the look of!!” So, I made my first quilt. I’m on my second with 2 more planned out. I think there’s value to note that personal taste ≠ fear. Thanks for the video.
I e made many of your patterns to give away but I made corner play for myself in blacks and whites for my recliner… goes well with my bed quilt that is in blacks and whites also!
I love you all, but I especially love when Hannah does the videos. She is just so bubbly and I think it’s really important to inspire younger people to take up quilting.
Hannah, I didn't do exactly the same thing with my ruler, but since I am a self-taught quilter, I didn't quite know what to do with my ruler. I used the straight edge for cutting and drawing lines when needed, but it took me a year or so to finally understand how I could use my ruler properly and more effectively. Sometimes, our minds just don't want to grasp the simplest way to do things. I love your willingness and courage to talk about quilts like a pro. I have been quilting for about 6 years, and I still feel anxious about talking quilts with seasoned quilters. You're awesome!
I always remind myself "cover what you are going to cut" - which helps keep me with my ruler in the correct place. (in response to cutting the corner seam allowance off).
As I looked at the Attraction quilt I was struck again that it would look fantastic in a harlequin theme! Black and white or gray and reds would look fantastic , even better if you find harlequin mask to use.
I've been there with the ruler. Beginner quilter here. I have only made one quilt so far. This was a fun video to watch. Thank you for the great tips and ideas.
Hello Donna and Hannah, great show today. I love all the easy explanations that you girls showed. It makes doing these quilts so much easier, when we can see it step by step. Thank you for this video.
I bought some of your books after I finished my first quilt top and I am so glad I did! I have learned so much and love the things I have been able to make!
Donna and Hannah, Watching how you perform your Magic Artistry makes me excited to try my hand at becoming a Quilting Wizard too!. I loved this episode. I actually understood everything you both talked about and demonstrated. I must be progressing as it all use to be Greek to me. Thank you for posting your weekly videos, I look forward to keeping up with your latest reveal, be it a lesson, new fabrics, kits, patterns or tools, and the fun and laughs you are sure to share all along the way! Happy Valentines Day, you both and your channel will always be dear to me! Sincerely grateful, Anita from Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I just finished the main body of My Favorite Things (I still have the borders to sew on). I used fabrics in a cream and black color way. It’s going to be one of my favorite quilts!
I get so inspired watching your videos! I am wondering if you could show some of your quilts’ backings and what pattern you used on the long arm please.
I’m in South Africa and I was thrilled to see your Enchanted fabric line i the quilting shop. I had to buy it. “I know the designer” I told the quilting shop. Lol 😂
My guild makes quilts for children in crisis so I really need quilts with more bright colors % that have a zing!!! The tigers really caught my eye! And I’m hoping for more samples that are just a bit lighter/brighter as that’s what I prefer and gives me more ideas for the kids’ quilts without the fabrics being to childish! Thanks for your great videos - I take screenshots of each video for my reference and have all your books (the new one is in order!!!!).
Hello Donna and Hannah, One thing I might add, is when you use a blue washable marker. If you iron your quilt block pieces. Before sewing your pieces into a quilt top. The blue marker becomes permanent. I learned this the hard way, so I think it might be better to use the marker that's invisible, I think it's the purple marker. And then sew your pieces shortly after you mark them. Otherwise the purple marker disappears.
For a minute more you could tell us about sewing 1/2"away, and bonus hst's. So the excess is already useful, and no more sewing after getting the pieces back together and they are a big size, plenty of them and should not need trimming either.. Hst's make up sooo many configurations, beginners will have a lot of fun with them. They can play with them ffor hours or days, before deciding what they like, and sew up their bonus quilt..
On favorite th,ing quilt. After sewing on diagonal line...sew again 1/2 away from that line and cut between the 2 lines of stitching...now you have a half square triangle for another project..nomwaste
Guys if you measure 1/2 inch from the line heading to the out side and draw another pencil line on the snowy stroll quilt and sew on both lines cut them apart it give you an extra HST for another project OR use in the border.😊
Greetings, a new subscriber here! Awesome video; great job, ladies! I love the way you explained the patterns. I am a newbie to quilting. I was gifted a lot of fabric, but I am so afraid to cut it for fear of messing it up. Being a newcomer to quilting, how do I get over that fear? Thanks! 🙂
Trust that most every one feels that way in the beginning. The only way to get over it is to...cut it! The second one is easier and the third one even easier! Happy quilting! Donna
I know the pattern is called Incoming Tide but where can I find the fabric? I love fabrics 1 and 3. That Teal or Turquoise is really nice. I'm on the Fabric Cafe website but don't see it 😢
Hi ReRe! Unfortunately the "Favorite Things" pattern is only available in the "Make it Christmas" book, but you also get 7 other great patterns in that book!
Hi ReRe, we have the book available on our website year round. You can get it here - www.fabriccafe.com/Make-It-Christmas-3-Yard-Quilts-Book-p/032241.htm
So sorry about that...we try and rotate them every couple of months to give everyone something fresh. I know it's not the same, but if you ever purchase a kit from our website you can choose the Attraction pattern for free.
So happy to see Hannah again! I hope she becomes a ‘regular!’
Her demeanor is so refreshing. She makes me understand why some people want to be teachers.

My first quilt was a disappearing 9 patch. It was so much fun to make.
Hi there, that was my first quilt to the disappearing nine patch!
I absolutely love batik fabrics. They are my favorite. I love it when you have pieces and parts. Today's quilts are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Have an amazing week.
You two are delightful😊 re: quarter inch ruler.
Oh, how cute you two are! Thank you for all the tips, I love how you measured the quarter in and made the diagonal cuts!!!
i like it when donna and hanna are on
Me, too!

Awww, I love that!
To get ink stains out, spray with hair spray, then Shout, launder immediately.
You can also use a wet-erase marker to highlight your quarter inch mark...
Vvv useful video for a beginner like me

Do you have any 5 yard patterns? I make quilts for charity and usually twin size. I love your show.
Love it❤you both are asome 11:49
Ih
How about making that perfect seam and then cutting on the drawn line?
I know the pattern is called Incoming Tide but where can I find the fabric? I love fabrics 1 and 3. That Teal or Turquoise is really nice. I'm on the Fabric Cafe website but don't see it 😢
Nevermind! I see they're all sold out. I found the links in your description section below the video. I hope they get more of these fabrics. 😢
Just make sure you are cutting that quarter inch on the correct side of the sewn line! I have cut off the entire corner when I didn’t pay attention!
Great tip!
Is it possible to get the pattern only? Love the snowy Stroll..Thanks
Hi ReRe! Unfortunately the "Favorite Things" pattern is only available in the "Make it Christmas" book, but you also get 7 other great patterns in that book!
@@FabricCafe looking for the snowy Stroll pattern. If only available in the Christmas book, where can I purchase this time of year? Thank you.

Even if I attache fabric before quilting, the fabric wrinkles. I don't know why. Could you tell me what happend ?
What stitch length do you recommend?
Hi Sally! I have a Bernina and use a 2.5 stitch length. - Fran
I have alot of mixed blocks I've made for a quilt How do I add borders to
I wish your Attraction pattern was still free.
So sorry about that...we try and rotate them every couple of months to give everyone something fresh. I know it's not the same, but if you ever purchase a kit from our website you can choose the Attraction pattern for free.
All your quits seem simple to make and are made up of straight lines. Can you make them with a serger?
Hi Janice! As you mentioned, a lot of our patterns use straight seams, so a serger would probably work well with these patterns.
