    Hi Fran, this is the first time I have watched your video. I was searching on RUclips "how to pick a pattern for a quilt that gives a sense of peacefulness and calmness". And you came up. I learned so much just from watching your video on how to pick fabrics. I have to say that some of the fabrics I thought were ugly and you made them look amazing together. I don't know if you will ever see this but I have an ugly fabric collection that someone gifted to me a layer cake and as if that was not enough a jelly roll of the same fabric to go together. Ok it's not ugly but the colors are on the depressing side. But you put together some fabrics that I would never have picked and you made them shine. My fabric kit is an old, old fabric from many years ago. It is called Gobble, Gobble by Sandy Gervais I think. She still has that collection and many of the same fabrics but she has added some happy yellows and the new oranges are happier too. I was thinking I would add some of those happy colors but I cannot pick a happy background The colors that would go for as a background are very depressing, to me. Maybe I could use those happy yellows as a background. If you ever see this message I hope you can give me some ideas That can perk up this fall collection. Thank you so much for a very informative video. It was like something just clicked.😃

    Hello Fran and team: do you ever think about using panels. Usually they are only 23" wide, so I understand that might now be in the wheelhouse of 3-yard quilts. I need some support in figuring out how to embrace the panel and make a beautiful quilt too!

    • @FabricCafe
      @FabricCafe  Год назад +2

      Hi Roxanna! We don't have any 3-yard patterns specifically written to use panels. However, some of our patterns will work. Check our patterns for block sizes that will work with your panel size. Often blocks can be cut from the smaller panel prints. We did a video on using panels in a 3-yard quilt that may spark some ideas - ruclips.net/video/K5uaIi5c9sg/видео.html

    Hello Fran I'm rewatching this video, and i have some fabric from a previous order, from fabric Cafe. That I think would look good in the dash pattern. Because these particular fabric choices, are different colors. Of the same print. And the contrast color of course will make it perfect. Thank you for this video and I'm glad that I could watch it on the replay to make other choices with fabric Cafe patterns.

      Hi Rita! Glad to hear! Do you happen to have an older book with both of these patterns or just have them individually? Both of these patterns did not come with enlargements on the first edition of "3-Yard Quilts for Kids," however, we have recently added enlargements to all of those patterns in the 2nd edition book that you can find here - www.fabriccafe.com/3-Yard-Quilt-for-Kids-Pattern-Book-2nd-Edition-p/032242.htm | If you happen to have just the individual patterns we do not offer enlargements for the single patterns at this time, only in the books. Hope that helps!

    Interesting in the digital image of kit fabric, the no 1 is used as the border not no 3 as per the red quilt. Just curious as this wasn't mentioned. I actually prefer it though in that kit 😊

    How many yards are needed on back fabric for 3 yard quilts?

    • @FabricCafe
      @FabricCafe  Год назад +1

      Hello! Great question! For the standard lap size quilt you will need 3-yards of 44" wide fabric. We have a free sheet on our website that will assist with adding backing to your 3-yard quilt. You can find that here - www.fabriccafe.com/Preparing-Backing-for-3-yard-Quilt-p/991801.htm
      If you are using a directional fabric or adding backing to a queen/king size then you will need additional yardage for the back. We have free guides on all of these options on our website under the "Free Goodies" tab! 😊 Hope that helps!

      Gosh Brenda, I feel that’s such an unnecessary negative comment. For those of us who are new to quilting or not as experienced as you perhaps are, they’re simply amazing and comments like this could easily make someone less experienced feel very inadequate. Thanks Fabric Cafe for all the information and instructions. I really appreciate it.

    • @dorothydecesare1607
      @dorothydecesare1607 18 дней назад

      Well Brenda, I can definitely say that you are just skimming the surface with Fabric Cafe.
      Yes they sell fabric to go with the patterns/ books, and they are not inexpensive, but there is so much more.
      I have the books, but have not availed myself of the fabric.
      I began quilting later in life with a ‘make it up as you go along ‘ mindset. Very haphazard, very time consuming,
      results were great, but needed to make it happen faster and with more of a plan.
      Have learned that 3 fabrics: a focus, and two more, one darker than the other, is all you need to get a great result.
      Have learned to pay attention to size of blocks, size of quilts ( they always give 4 sizes ) . I look at patterns from other guys in a different light. Always ask myself is there a focus, a contrast and a second focus….
      Love changing things up to suit myself and the recipient. In particular, Fran is coming up with more challenging blocks too.
      Although I do love Donna Jordan and Missouri Star, it is Fabric Cafe and 3 yard quilts that have allowed me to be confident and have the skills to
      attempt other companies’ patterns too, knowing the results will be a success .
      That’s my take. 🧵🪡🥰💕
