How to change or upgrade the hard disk on a Lenovo 320-15IAP Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80XR / 80XR0083UK.
Also shows the BIOS battery and wireless card connector.
It seems like you could even have two hard disks in this machine with a DVD to hard disk caddy!
Very helpful guide. I miss the days when laptgops had a separate little door you could quickly unscrew and open up to upgrade the HDD/memory.
Yep, such a shame they moved away from stuff like that. Dell also had computers that didn't need screwdrivers to open and remove hard disks etc. (all on little plastic clips and brackets, no tools required).
A girl who knows nothing about hardware repair learnt something today.
I just used your video to guide me in replacing another HDD to an SSD in a second Lenovo Laptop. Thanks again for doing this.
Glad to have helped and thanks for taking the time to comment and tell me :)
Thanks - very useful and far better than trying to use Lenovo's Hardware Manual.
Would add that I used guitar picks, rather than metal tools to remove the base - less likelihood of scratching or damaging the computer.
I buy packs of picks of different thickness and find that the thinest is usual the one that helps me get started. With this particular laptop, the best way in seemed to be on the RH side up near the hinge.
Ty
max props to him for mentioning rossman repairs..
that guy is awesome.
Great channel in the early days with all the in depth technical repairs (PP3 bus hot?) and schematics, I sense that more recently he is mainly an opinion channel with far fewer repairs. Maybe there are only so many combinations of problems on the small set of Mac hardware out there and he has already made every repair video possible :D
Thank you for making this, it helped me. I just used a finger nail.
Great work :) glad to have helped!
Very helpful. Thanks. My laptop was pretty old and the casing in which the HDD was placed wouldn't move when I tried to lift it up. Solved it by using a flat screwdriver.
Thanks for taking the time to say so and glad it helped !
Thank you. It helped replace my HDD with a new SSD.
Yay. Glad to have helped!
Thanks for providing detailed info.
:)
Thank you so much for the detail here - really helped - urgent RAM and SSD upgrade needed and it all worked out fine. I always worry about whether I need to take out the battery etc - so I noticed you didn't here (for the SSD) and so I followed your lead.
Thanks for the thanks :)
Thankyou so much for this was having a nightmare taking out faulty disk drive. Hoping new one will do the trick. Thanks again
Glad to have helped :)
Thank you very much. It was very useful and helpful.
Thank you for saying :)
Tysm , I replaced mine today
Helped a lot ty
Glad you made this tutorial !
yay
Extremely helpful! Thank you!!!
Happy to have helped :)
It was suggested to use a guitar pic to pry open the top. I did and it slid easily around the three edges.
Yep, they work well but I find they are too small sometimes.
Lol most OP spudger in the world. Thanks for the how to.
The spuder is so perfect. So many times I wish I had it with me that I now have two. Sometimes a credit card with a tapered edge (grind it along the ground) works ok. The metal one I use is just the right size, shape and rigidity.. highly recommend.
Great video i have the simlar machine and been running an additional drive in the cd drive bay but recently unplugged it as thought it was dying but machine still playing up so might have to upgrade the internal for an ssd and still run the drive bay one aswell thanks for the upload .
Thanks a lot. That was really helpful.
Glad to have helped and thanks for leaving a comment :)
Thank you so much! Helpful and detailed video. Very informative.
Thanks for saying so too, it makes me happy to know others found it helpful!
Can you suggest RAM compatible with this? Getting one and I am looking to fill it to it's 16GB capacity and SSD
Thanks in advance
Crucial.com system checker does a good job!
Hi Andrew did you upgrade it? I'm looking yo do the same thing
@@carlamolina695 I never ended up getting it based on this video. I didn't care for the build quality or engineering of this machine. Went with a Thinkpad instead
Than you. You are a blessing. I subscribed to your channel today.
Thank you for taking the time to say so!
Thanks! This video helped me a lot!
Glad it did and thank you for taking the time to say so.
Thanks. Excellent tutorial.
Thanks for saying thanks and I am glad it helped!
Great vudei, thanks!
Thank you for saying so :)
Nice and very helpfull video! What is the external size and caracteristics of the harddrive I need to buy to replace the original one? I am seeking a SSD. Thanks!
thanks for the guide!
Thank you for saying thanks :) It makes a difference to my day.
What RAM is compatible to our lenovo ideapad320?
Is this good 16GB of RAM 3600megahertz??
Good video was looking where them memory was or is it soldered in?
The RAM might be under the silver metal shield you can see at 8:23 over on the right side of the motherboard (to the right of the CPU, left of the USB ports and above the battery).
Thank u so much !!!
Thanks for the thanks :)
Hi, I am planning to buy ssd for my Lenovo 320. Is it possible to replace the hdd with ssd then place the hdd to cd drive, will it work ?
Yes, it will work, you just need to buy a 9.5mm caddy for hdd to the Ideapad 320. The sistem will boot from the ssd, so you need to backup/clone the hdd image before changing the slots
Hey dude, just wanna ask, did that work? Let me know, was there any heating problem or any other problem in that setup
Great video I have the 320 14 AST I’m looking to add to the storage on the blank connection but can’t work out the connection we’re the blanking player sits it comes up as m sata but I can’t find the right enclosure
Are you asking about the connector I point to at 7:16 ?
Thanks. Can i put the old drive into a 2,5" hard disk case and use it as an external drive?
Yes.
Which hard disk you are using to replace the original one, please recommend, how to choose hdd for IdeaPad 320
Any 2.5inch SATA SSD. Ideally a SanDisk, Kingston, or other well known brand.
If i have the product key and don't require any previous data from before but do want the licensed version of os which came with the laptop. So after replacing the ssd what will be the procedure to have the os, and will the laptop start immediately?
Windows 7 key and above.. use another computer to run the media creation tool for Windows 10 and create the install USB stick.. www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO
@@freename oh okay
Hi.. Thanks for this video! Can we replace the existing 1Tb HDD with higher capacity HDDs? Is it supported?
I expect so but don't know what the limit might be. However I would strongly recommend going SSD, it makes such a speed difference.
@@freename a SSD will incress battery life on a charge because there is no spinning disk.
Good question and I'm afraid I don't know. Would likely be easy to Google if you search power consumption of a hard disk and power consumption of an SSD. The SSD is likely to be little to no power until you write data.
Hi thank you so much for the help providing with your work, could I ever ask you a video about how to improve your graphic card by any chance .I happen to have the same model with corei7 8th gen. thankyou hoping soon Christian
There are so few laptops you can upgrade graphics cards on .. this low cost ideapad certainly won't have that ability. You are stuck with the graphics card it came with.
Thanks Bro...
Thanks for saying thanks :)
Thx
Can you let me know which SSD I should buy? I saw the one you are using to replace, can you let me know the part info?
Depends how much space you use on your current disk. I'd go for a Crucial BX500 SATA drive of suitable storage capacity.
If I clone windows 10 on the HDD using the method described and then change the boot priority to USB in the BIOS, can the machine still work from the SSD? I have no practice disassembling notebooks and don’t want to ruin the machine.
That's a good question and I'm not sure of the answer. You can try. I would expect it to be slower than putting the SSD into the computer.
i have an Indian version of lenovo ideapad 320 and it has 4 GB ram and 1 TB HDD storage so tell me can i run auto-cad, gta,or some heavy games or should i upgrade my laptop?
Cad, probably. Games, unlikely.
Hi guys,, may I know will that help on the start up speed after changing to a SSD hard Drive? Mine took very long to start to window screen..
A good SSD is like a new computer.
what type of screwdriver you used? can you give me the detail type? Thank you!
Stanley screwdriver part number 67-056
@@freename okay thx
do i need to reinstall windows if my old hard drive is broken please
Yes you will. You need another windows computer, a memory stick and to download the windows 10 media creation tool. Search Google for Windows 10 iso and it's the Microsoft.com result.
Hey when I did this my laptop was having booting problems
Did you clone the old drive, if so how? Or did you fresh install windows?
@@freename like I bought a new hard drive, battery, and ram. When I put those n it takes me to boot setting but act like the keys don’t work or it freezes. I put old stuff back in and it just have a never ending loop of the Lenovo logo with a loading bar. I just bought that thing u was using to copy the hard drive but idk if that’ll make a difference.
How do I make the computer boot from my new sad
Clone the one drive using Macrium or reinstall windows from start from a usb stick onto the new drive.
Hi there I also have Lenovo ideapad 320 but it keeps restarting. I feel like the drive is corrupted. What should I do? pls. help. Thanks
Do you get a blue screen before it restarts? Does it restart when doing a specific task or program?
no I don't. It's just checking media and then a message that says exiting PXE ROM appears. and then it restarts and the same cycle happens :(
@@maestratv2689 Hard drive is dead, I tried reinstalling windows 10 but when I tried to format it, it failed.
@@Straiferdt01 thanks a lot. have you tried changing the drive? Do you think it will work?
@@maestratv2689 Yeah, actually I bought an SSD yesterday and just today I installed it using this video. Now the laptop works and everything is fine.
Esta laptop no tiene un cooler?
Such a weak CPU and budget laptop - no; it does not have a cooling fan.
where can i buy one?
A laptop, SSD or hard disk ?
@@freename both
@@somoonietv I offered 3 things.. anyway, given the age of the laptop: eBay. SSD: Amazon or any computer supplier (e.g. in the UK, eBuyer or similar). Hard disk.. wouldn't bother. Hard disks are slow and awful, if you can afford an SSD.. do SSD.
I did all this but I didn't know I had to install windows 10 on the drive before swapping it in. Oops!
You normally want to clone your old drive.. or use a usb stick with windows 10 installer on it to install a fresh windows 10 on your new drive
You dint on it
