Thanks a lot, the advice on pulling out the battery worked nicely. I was concerned about pulling it out because I had heard some models had it so you couldn't remove the battery, but it worked like a charm.

@@alucard02 Load times improved across the board. My main goal was to get rid of the 100% disk usage the first few minutes after booting, as I hated to have to start up minutes in advance. That got solved. I'm a happy man.

Did you do 1 tb? some says max we can use to ideapad 320 is 500 gb?
@@JonathanHernandez-hf4jj I replace my 1To HDD by a Samsung-500 Go SSD (enough space with this latter) so I cannot say. I noticed that CPU tends to be more used but nothing unusual. I hear in other videos that the most important point is the 2.5" SSD + suitable caddy. Nothing about a max storage. Anyway, you may also replace the HDD by a SSD, then use the HDD in the optical driver slot.

Yes it is the same I have the 320s and I didn’t have to pry the HDD to remove it. I am using the hdd in my new pc and put it back into the laptop when I’m going on a long trip.

Thank you for this tutorial. I've been wanting to do this when I first purchased this laptop. It's been several years now and I've watched this video several times. Thanks to your video, I'm ready to tackle this upgrade. Without rushing it took me about 43 minutes to install 500 GB SSD and an additional 16GB RAM. (Total 20GB) The cloning of HDD was actually much more difficult than this. Thank you!

@@fitdude2710 i added 8gb ram, making it 12gb ram. I noticed speed difference than the original 4gb ram.. especially since im using windows 10 on HDD. So much faster now

@@tansyalexander2543 there's only one slot for RAM, so yes, you would have to remove the current RAM chip & install a new one. Based on my google research it can only take max 16 gb RAM chip (I may be wrong).

I upgraded my 4gb RAM to 8gb and the 1tb harddrive to 1tb SSD and it is a world of difference. I'm now able to keep up with simple class assignments,whereas before I was always still loading, holding the class up. Next I'm going to remove the disc drive and use it as an extra harddrive from the one I replaced. Idk if its going to make a difference though. I'd appreciate anything helpful in the comments section.👍

Hi - can you tell me which RAM did you buy? I have just replaced the HD with a SSD and goodness WHAT a massive difference. I also wish to use the blank DVD drive bay for another hard drive but as yet can't find an adapter although a HD fits into the tray very neatly - just need the cable part??

Finally a video that help I have the 14 AST not sure if the cd drive connection is mSATA OR m.2 ? It’s so confusing or if it’s just a dvd drive connector I can’t find this colour in stock

The facia might not match (as it is designed for the ThinkPad) but you need one which includes the mounting bracket as this is built in to the placeholder and can't be removed.

Hi!... I noticed that in the cover of the CD drive you can put a second hard disk but the connection we have there is micro sata (if I'm not mistaken), do you know if there is an adapter that can work to install the second hard disk there?
Yes u need a special adpater called caddy
Hi, great video! I have the same laptop and I was thinking of adding another SSD to the drive bay but as you say the plastic is one moulded piece which is a slight problem. Would you know where to get an optical drive bay caddy that would work for this laptop?

How many RAM slots does it have, beside the One which is already on the system and cannot be removed? Are there 2 or there is only 1 extensible RAM slot?
No well some models have 4gb pre installed so you can add another one like 16GB ram and in total you will have 20gb ram since one ram slot is already allocated

Your files will be on the old drive. You can either clone them (and Windows) to the new SSD, or clean install Windows 10 and copy your data manually.
I having problems to upgrade the memory ram. I try it with a 2gb and with a 4gb ddr4 2400mhz but it just dont recognize anything. Actually it worked one time but as soon i restart the computer it doesnt work anymore. Should i assume its a slot problem? Or i need a 2133mhz exaclty like the on board memory? In lenovo web site they indicate the 2400mhz as i understand is adaptable to 2133mhz..

I don't know if 2.5 is a size for the ages drive but I broke mine and I'll buy new. But I have 320s I think they have the same sizes.

Yes, it will work. The maximum ram for this brand is 12gb. I purchased a hyper X 8gb 2400 ram

If replacing the existing drive then you'll need to either clone the contents across or clean install Windows to it. If adding an additional drive then you'd need to initialize and format the new drive.

The contents of the system will be on the hard drive - you can either clone the contents of the drive to the SSD using a program like True Image, or carrying out a clean install of Windows 10 and copying your data to it.

Yes, you can do that. You may change the CD-ROM to caddy and the performance will still be the same and nothing bad will happen.

About to do this to my stepdaughter's 320. Wondering how much of a speed increase I'm going to get with another 4GB of RAM and SSD. This machine is extremely slow, probably due to the HDD but I can't see any videos anywhere which detail exactly how much better the machine performs with SSD and extra RAM.
No you don’t need to upgrade the hdd I have the exact same model you need to upgrade the ram. If your hard drive is below 500gb then I would suggest upgrading that as well

Enjoyed this tutorial. Gonna do this for my ideapad. Can I ask though, what's the rationale for swapping a 1tb drive to a 240 gb drive? I understand that ssd is much faster, but why swap to a lower storage capacity?
Maybe it's like my case, I have 1tb of storage and I've never filled even half, buying a 1tb ssd would be much more expensive and I know I wouldn't have to fill it.
SSD are way faster than some people imagine, and most people never really use even half the storage of a half TB drive. So for some people speed might matter more than storage, Especially since the data that is backup can be stored on clouds or an external drive

@@mae6626 the kind of Drive doesnt matter, only the space in the case and the capability of the motherboard do. useually laptop can only hold one Drive, but if you have an DVD Reader, you migth be able to exchange it to another drive. Cables connection (SATA) is the same

No. Pretty much no modern laptops have an upgrade-able CPU - only a few high-end gaming laptops with desktop CPUs in them.
In everything else, the CPU is soldered to the mainboard, so to upgrade it you'd have to replace the entire board, which is rarely cost effective.
Why would you have to replace the WIFI Card? Is there a better one or just if it stopped working?
hello, I made this improvement to my Lenovo ideapad 320 15AST laptop, my problem is that the ram I put in is 2400Mhz but even if it doesn't give me that frequency instead it gives me 1066Mhz, how can I increase the frequency? the bios but it doesn't say anything related please help.
1066Mhz is DDR4-2133 (1066x2). That is the maximum speed supported by the AMD A9-9420 processor.

It depends on the model you have - this was a Pentium Silver based version of it which uses very little power. The Core i3 and above models will have a fan as the processor generates more heat.

Sounds like a faulty memory module.
Same probleme I have 4gb and I put an other 8 gb and then I have bsod . I think it was the wrong one . On this case you should ask a specialist before buying any ram
