And that's great if people don't mind losing their game when they do eventually pull the plug but it's going to be a bit off a shock to those ignorant to this model
I feel like its only cheating if its Easy enough to do with minimal effort AND its an instant boost while completely skipping significant portions of the track (Like the Goodwood shortcut or the Willow Springs one from GT Sport). The fact that this takes actual skill and specific factors (The angle, the amount and trajectory) to make it work while staying on track, albeit barely, makes it more an exploit. A difficult one and somewhat edgy one, but a exploit. I tend to feel the biggest difference between cheating and simply exploiting something is the amount of effort relative to the gain you achieve.
CAUTION: RANT AHEAD Don't rally cars do this? So the physics isn't necessarily broken (however lower cars would be shot). But I think having it in the game adds to higher skill gap, there just needs to be a downside. I.E. More tire wear, dirtiness so the next couple corners require more precision, or even it requires a certain set up or tires. I like it, but I miss variety in games. That's why I no longer play sports games. Besides the main title you lack options. Football for example, we have only Madden now, but we used to have variety like Street, Blitz, NFL Fever, etc. Anyways, what I'm getting at is if we are stuck with basically 1 title I'd prefer more options then just the "META." Seeing 1 car in a lobby of 12+ makes the game fun for about 45min before you change the game...
I agree. And it’s not even Rally cars. Look at Seb Vettel’s pole lap at Mexico 2017 in the snake section in sector 2. It’s totally normal amd maybe people are complaining because they aren’t gaining the time??😂
@@kabob21 there are natural "curbs" and gutters that do form, also many rally races include dirt and road. Have you ever watched rally cars before? You should treat yourself cause it sounds like you haven't
The issue is specifically how/where it does it, notice how it's a literal 5cm (~2in) tall wall, on cars with slicks which would be going into dirt, whilst the opposite side would be getting pushed outside by the shape of the curbs, not to speak of how the underside would be gone from all the scraping
I did not notice this all week! No wonder it seemed cars would just run away. But, like you say, consistency is more attainable racing the circuit conventionally. Being an American with the demo derby American servers, consistency has gained me a lot of positions.
I noticed that you could "drive" on a curb on a video of yours, but saddly I didn't have gt7 to test that out, and also thought I was actually wrong about that. Good to see that I was right on my observation. Glad to see the devs put such reference to Initial D in the game XD. But seriously, if they see this rolling around, they might patch it in no time (I think, maybe).
In reality, Michael Schumacher often used this technique in Monaco. Especially in Mirabeau and the Grand Hotel Hirpin. He really was a driver who took every opportunity to go faster. These turns are relatively slow. At this track there is also no problem of dirty tires when you do that. That must have been the reason why, as far as I know, he only did it in Monaco and not on other tracks.
Genuine question though, if it wasn't for the risk factor, and you had the right suspension, camber, etc, wouldn't this work in real life too? Like didn't they make it illegal in nascar or indy 500 to ride the bottom bit of the oval? You know where you have one wheel on the flat and one on the bank, I think It's faster but less safe
When I was involved in rallying, it was known as 'ditch hooking'. When it worked there were massive times to be gained. If there was a rock on the inside, wave goodbye to your suspension!
@@Jailhouse_Chris Yes exactly, that's a great point, there's merit to the technique, I'm wondering how much of this "exploit" is a physics exploit in the game, or rather a result of accurately modelled real life physics? After all, it's not like many people get to test this kind of thing in real life. However, giving your insightful rallying comment, perhaps people have tested in real life to some extent after all. I'm very curious to know if this is a real phenomena. When I look at it, I think it actually is. I'm a programmer, not a physicist or professional racing driver, or track designer, whatever. But I understand it enough, I'm thinking this can happen in real life too. I think the curb is ireellevent almost, its that they're catching a camber angle that is keeping the wheels rotating nicely, ultimately riding the apex as close in as possible. I think you can gain time with this in real life but it's super risky and difficult to do, so in real life, it's not really an option. Whether it's accurate in game, well Idk. GT7 isn't the most realistic anyway. But, someone please answer this lol. My adhd autistic brain is going mental 😂
for the people saying "hurr durr muh rally drivers do it"...yes they do. they dip a wheel into a ditch to the inside to "hook" the car around corners. BUT you are driving cars here with slick or semi-slick tyres on a racetrack. the two inside wheels are on the grass. its physically impossible to go around the corner with 2 wheels on the grass at the same speed as if all 4 of them where on the asphalt. best case scenario would be your car just slipping back on the track or it goes around on you completely. Secondly riding a curb for that long at such a speed would just tear your tyre apart after the first time you try this move irl. i once hit a sidewalk curb irl at like 50kmh/30~mph for a moment and needed a new one cus i had a tear in it.
Same thing on Forza Horizon 4 lol, you let your inside tires dive into the grassy part of the road and your car suddenly can pull even more lateral G's.
this is one of my biggest gripes about sim racing, mainly towards the community. on one hand you have people screaming that this or that game "is not a real sim" and they have all this fancy hardware and get in full racing suits and everything to really "play pretend", because they are "so serious and sim guys", yet they find and use exploits in the games programing at the same time. exploiting bugs or game codes dont make you a "good racer". it dont make you a clean racer, it dont make you "super hardcore elitist sim", it makes you a tool. especially more so if you are one of those "sim elitists" that are always screaming in comments that "my sim is best sim and yours is arcade bs" i remember a time when it didnt use to be that way. When the racing community was one of the few, if not only fanbase that didnt go full toxic. but the times and attitudes have changed over the years i guess. Im just waiting for everyone to start screaming "REEEEE i dont wanna play with wheel users or have crossplay because im on a controller and unfair advantage" like the FPS crowd always cries about with controller and m/kb, even though every console since the ps2/OG xbox had m/kb support and getting those are far more accessible then a racing setup.
Same thing with iracing actually. I've been keeping up the news there and all the real race drivers quit iracing in droves when they got to the point where if you didn't run the exploits you weren't having fun.

A difficult one and somewhat edgy one, but a exploit. I tend to feel the biggest difference between cheating and simply exploiting something is the amount of effort relative to the gain you achieve.
Kerb Boosting finds its way to GT7 it seems
A fellow GTA Online player I see
Momoz makes his GT 7 appearance
Oh noes, Momoz!
CAUTION: RANT AHEAD
Don't rally cars do this?
Where would a rally car ever do this? There aren’t any kerbs/curbs on dirt roads 🫠
The issue is specifically how/where it does it, notice how it's a literal 5cm (~2in) tall wall, on cars with slicks which would be going into dirt, whilst the opposite side would be getting pushed outside by the shape of the curbs, not to speak of how the underside would be gone from all the scraping
ayo the gutter run
In Florida and japan there are actual street racing techniques based on catching the street curb and holding it

Love the video. Had the Initial D theme in my heal all the time. Super late brakeuu
Absolutely love the Kyle Busch paint scheme for thee one and only SCOTT CHEGG
The Audi livery is amazing
I wish PD would rebalance the BOP. It’s a shame that if you want to do well in Gr4 you need the WRX. And Gr3 you need the Beetle.
Agree 100%. Need some others buffed. Love to see the Ferarri Porsche and McLarens competitive
100% agree, seeing all these same cars gets old fast, would love a more diverse car pool during races.
"I was quite puzzled why I was 2 seconds off" Welcome to my life mate.
I like the Scott Speed content. The lolz against the rubbish drivers are good.
I did not notice this all week! No wonder it seemed cars would just run away. But, like you say, consistency is more attainable racing the circuit conventionally. Being an American with the demo derby American servers, consistency has gained me a lot of positions.
Wonderful, Kutje de Bruin (the number 1 time) is still alive. To be fair, there are a lot of KutjesdeBruin in the Netherlands.
I noticed that you could "drive" on a curb on a video of yours, but saddly I didn't have gt7 to test that out, and also thought I was actually wrong about that. Good to see that I was right on my observation. Glad to see the devs put such reference to Initial D in the game XD. But seriously, if they see this rolling around, they might patch it in no time (I think, maybe).
bro your commentary is absolute class sometimes haha
Super GT loves Initial D! Rally drivers actually use this technique as I'm sure Super GT is aware of.
Kyoto Park has such beautiful panoramic views, reminds me of majestic Deep Forest 🌳 Raceway.
19:05 RIP Meep, gone but not forgotten
Initial D at its finest that's a real simulator!!!
In reality, Michael Schumacher often used this technique in Monaco. Especially in Mirabeau and the Grand Hotel Hirpin. He really was a driver who took every opportunity to go faster. These turns are relatively slow. At this track there is also no problem of dirty tires when you do that. That must have been the reason why, as far as I know, he only did it in Monaco and not on other tracks.
you risk damage to the tires, underside of chassis etc
Hope your doing well mate looking forward to the next video
Those Scott Chegg races were beautiful
@@justamanchimp im no expert but i can image it would affect tirewear immensely.
The technique works, but not in this environment, the small lip the tire grabs onto ingame would most likely not be enough to pull the car in irl
@@woutervanderidder8417 This could be the solution in game
damn takumi
MASAKA!
(Heartbeat intensifies)
Crashy boi follows.
for the people saying "hurr durr muh rally drivers do it"...yes they do. they dip a wheel into a ditch to the inside to "hook" the car around corners.
Between this and his hat trick against Wolves it was quite the week for KDB
Everytime I see Momoz in a lobby, it feels like a fever dream
Same thing on Forza Horizon 4 lol, you let your inside tires dive into the grassy part of the road and your car suddenly can pull even more lateral G's.
Bruh I did tht trick in gt7 online but with a SUV nd it didn't work
Glad to see we all had the same thought
GUTTER RUN TECHNIQUE
🤣
this is one of my biggest gripes about sim racing, mainly towards the community. on one hand you have people screaming that this or that game "is not a real sim" and they have all this fancy hardware and get in full racing suits and everything to really "play pretend", because they are "so serious and sim guys", yet they find and use exploits in the games programing at the same time.
exploiting bugs or game codes dont make you a "good racer". it dont make you a clean racer, it dont make you "super hardcore elitist sim", it makes you a tool. especially more so if you are one of those "sim elitists" that are always screaming in comments that "my sim is best sim and yours is arcade bs"
i remember a time when it didnt use to be that way.
LoL I play with a controller and tbh I still drive this game good
Kevin De Bruyne is into GT I see
Jaja thought the same

GTA curb boosting makes its way into a racing sim.
Alternate timeline achieved.
I prefer the compression boost you get when going over bumps in gta
It don't work 🤨 well in online races are least for me bc people keep ramming me nd shit
This technique has been possible in all of them since GT5 if I’m not mistaken. Not on all tracks but I do remember doing it on some of them.
This reminds me of my GTA racing days where curb boosting is what won races
🤨 uhh you don't get boosted just by jumping on a curb on GTA what crack you on dude

Glad to see Takumi still racing! ;)
A good ol Gutter run.... You love to see it.
Great exploit to make your opponent look a granma driving home from church
This reminds me of another exploit of Black Ops 3 called the G Slide. It sucks that its in the game but its one of those things where you might as well abuse it until its fixed.
