I think the issue is that people assume that the ones who have detailed criticisms about anything are the kind of people that are too deeply interested in whatever it is that they are criticising so they just pass them off as "turbo nerds" or "people who need to take a break to go touch grass". In reality the ones who have those criticisms and take the time and effort to explain what they think is wrong and what should be done are the ones who can see the most potential in whatever it is they are criticising and are simply pointing them out in the hopes that the product can be improved not just for them but for everybody else. In fact the products get diluted because of the people who don't bother to see how the product could be improved and who keep telling those "turbo nerds" to "touch grass" as they just accept whatever they get given. I know people want their products to appeal to everybody in order to sell as many of them as possible but you simply cannot please everybody. That's why niches exist in the first place.
Yes, there are people who are too invested in things who definitely need to actually touch grass and there are times where it's better to have a casual interest in something rather than being deeply invested in it but there are nuances to all of those things. The gaming community in general suffers from criticism not being addressed properly as new people constantly join the gaming community with no standards (because they are just starting to play games for the first time and are still finding out about games without knowing what is good or bad about games), people who simply don't have a big enough interest in games so they can't offer meaningful criticisms while people with valid criticisms either don't get their criticisms addressed ("take a break and go do something else you nerd") or they get lumped in with the ones with terrible criticisms/toxic members of the community or both. And there are those who despite having played games for a long time still have terrible standards for games who will just accept whatever you give them (doesn't matter if it's a work of art or a pile of s***). Makes me wonder how developers decide who to listen to and whose feedback is more important (apart from the ones who spend the most money on microtransactions though that is moreso the fault of greedy publishers than developers).

It is actually almost hilarious that you released this video today. Earlier today, Forza dropped a seven gigabyte update to the game to fix a host of issues. About 200 if the talk about it is true. We did get a new track, Yas Marina, and added 2 more single player events (about 2 more hours of single player content depending how fast you are). The sad thing is, this update was mainly just to fix a game that was flawed in a huge way. Similar to what you said, this update really doen't fix the core issue of the game. Having never played GT7, I do get a few "the grass is greener" moments when listening about the stuff that was added. Right now in Forza, it feel's like you are shackled to what few cars you get and you just have to hope that whatever the new online hopper for the week is will let you use them or else it is another 2 hours mindlessly grinding out car levels. Great video as always.

Im suprised they thought weekly challenges, ONE track, 7 cars and a bit of miscellaneous crap was enough to call it Spec 2. Its a big update dont get me wrong, but it doesnt feel like it. Its just... more of the same (appart from the weekly stuff).

Not to call this a good update, but this is what Spec 2.0 updates have been since gt5, a bit more content than usual, some qol changes and improvements and some special events. GT5 Spec 2.0's biggest new features were an intro and interior cam for standard cars...

    • @Armageddon_71
      @Armageddon_71 6 месяцев назад

@@De_kaidThats true but I also think that was underwhelming as well.
The fact that the older Spec 2 updates didnt have that much content doesnt make my argument invalid. I think in both cases its a bit much to call it "Version 2" when its just a bigger normal update.
Gt7s Spec 2 update was pretty damn big dont get me wrong but appart from a couple things like the weekly challenges or the master licences not much has changed.
The races are still broken as ever (appart from the "peppers"), there are just more of them now.
The car list still feels a bit... hollow i guess and 7 cars wont do THAT much of a dent.
Some could even go as far as saying the master licence are just the same stuff again, although i whouldnt go quite as far.
The problem is not that this less content relative to other Spec 2 updates.
Its that its only a couple hours extra content in a flawed game that, like Roflwaffle said, should have had a lot of this crap at launch.
Im not saying that i didnt enjoy the LFA or the new circuit (for like 5 hours) its just...
Over a year after launch, with the technology available in 2023 I expected more.
Economy fixes regarding car cost and prize money, the AI, maybe even going back some other cars and adding upgrades to certain underpowered Vgt or some sh!t like that. ANYTHING that isnt just adding more icing on this cake that got nuked with a pipe bomb.

It definitely doesn’t fix it but it breathed a ton of fresh air back into the game that was desperately needed.
I think what would be AMAZING would be if they did a campaign focused update, where they add a new game+ campaign. It would be like other new game+ modes where you effectively start from the beginning but with the cars you already have. My vision for it however would be that you finish the menu books in the base game, then the game unlocks a new game+ campaign that utilizes the same events from the base campaign but they’re all chili pepper races. The ai cars would be upgraded because your cars you own that are eligible in the events are probably upgraded anyway. Instead of being structured as menu books, they’re structured as championships like in the old gran turismos. They pay out much more money making the end game income much more suitable and tolerable for saving up for the super expensive cars. And this new game+ campaign would not only include all the events from base game restructured as chili pepper races, but would also include plenty of completely new events that utilize cars that were not utilized much in the base campaign.
In my opinion it should be that to unlock this new game+ mode, you must beat every single world circuit event and complete all the master licenses. This solves the problems of not enough events, events being disorganized once you’re done with the menu books, not enough interesting events, end game payouts being poor, and plenty of cars lacking purpose for events. To me one of the biggest culprits that has crippled gran turismo for a while is a lack of endgame for the single player experience which is what I had in mind with this sort of idea.
A bonus idea for event types would be events that are restricted to engine swapped cars, and even narrow it down to specific engine swaps

The way I see it as someone who played this game pretty regularly for a few months after release, but eventually dropped off hard in no small part because of the progression and game economy situation, I think that the Spec II update isn`t the cure that instantly fixes the game, but rather a pretty big hop in the rigyt direction. The race directory alone is a massive QOL improvement, and instantly makes the update worth it, atleast for me.
I also think that expecting an update as big as this one every month is pretty unrealistic, in no small part because an update of this scale would probably more people to be actually supporting the game than they probably have (I`d imagine the next GT is in the works), and I`d be willing to bet that alot of the stuff they added has been cooking for a looong time, with them deciding to hold stuff back in order to drop it all in a "big" update. Heck, I`d wager they were holding this one in the chamber for a while, in order to drop it when they did, and try to pull people`s attention from their rival Forza (or atleast the timing was kind of sus, IMO)
With all that said, while I don`t expect them to release such big updates every month, it`s perfectly reasonable to expect them to release at least 2-3 big updates a year. Same goes for Forza for that matter, especially after that terrible launch

  • @natanmaia3575
    @natanmaia3575 6 месяцев назад +19

About chilli pepper races, I think they very much know that, for the game to have a wide reaching audience, it needs a wide spectrum of difficulty levels in races, particularly the early ones. It's business, if you want your game to sell well (regardless of quality) it needs to be approachable.
The pepper races may have been an experiment from the devs to appeal to hardcore players without alienating the more casual ones (like how challenge modes in Kirby games are handled, down to the peppers hehe). The other option would be to make every race's difficulty customizable like Forza does, but then one could complain devs are asking players to design the diff curve themselves.
While I do like the pepper races, I understand why the game is not majorly focused on them (sadly the real driving simulator is not necessary a real racing simulator), seeing a large portion of the update races being those challenge races means the devs may be looking to expand the game's appeal for that more hardcore audience in the single player aspect.
in sum, now that the game is out, casuals bought in, and the game has 5M global copies sold, only now they can start doing more risky stuff like "super difficult" content like master licenses and peppers.
Man, modern gaming is a mess...

For me, what I don't understand is why does it take a "Spec II" update to bring the game closer to what it should have been from launch? Why settle for the bare minimum, then "drip-feed" content until it's actually finished? That would be like if you're assigned a task to complete on a due date, but you submit it half-finished on the day itself and then "drip-feed" revisions/additions over time until it's complete. If it was an academic setting, you get little to no marks, and if it was your job, you'll be fired. How do big corporations get away with this?

As usual, i pretty much agree with everything in this video. Like the other videos, I'd be making them myself but Mr Waffle here has once again said what needs to be said for me.
I was driving grand valley today and I still say that they've butchered a classic track just to have an environment change. I still hate the basic races that start from the back.
What was nice to do was a quick race in a Subaru Impreza on Tokyo Expressway East counter clockwise at dusk. Oh man it almost felt like I was back on Special Stage Route 5 and I think they should add come clubman cup plus races here, or even include it in a championship that has the old tracks in (deep forest could be dawn/evening for example).
I also see people still bash the game for 'always online' and end up coming on to platforms that are (funnily enough) always online. When asked why they hate it its because they live in an extremely rural area and their internet drops out ever 40 minutes or so. Yea that could be annoying and maybe a simple solution is for those that want to go into Sport mode could have their saves as 'always online' as it currently is and have the option to have an 'offline save' where you'll never be allowed to go online but can enjoy the single player stuff without having to be disconnected back to music rally.
Another bash is MTX, seriously, if you paid to get enough credits for a 20mill car outright it is indeed expensive, and an incredibly dumb way to look at it. As Roflwaffle has said previously its not a pay to win game and I've never felt the need to buy any credits to afford a car I really want. Its simply some random option that I never go onto in the game. Maybe the way people look at it is wrong, so imagine supporting the developers (if the money goes to them) financially and in return you get some credits for it, rather than just have a PayPal donation page with nothing in return then at least its an optional thing that's still down to whether people want to do it or not. Look at GTA online and the profits for people buying it's in game cash, same with ultimate team for FIFA and say the golden eagles (gold coins) in War Thunder. Hey, at least in GT you can earn credits to get ALL update cars for free whereas Forza which gets high ratings makes you PAY for new cars.
We live in a time now where game bashing is almost a given for all new games (sometimes deservedly so) but most of the time it's a bandwagon that people just jump onto for the sake of it without giving a decent reason why or its just hating for the sake of hating it. Basically all ratings are now pointless to look at for an idea whether a game is any good and its more of a case where if i want to play a game for what it has, then I will get it regardless.
Meh, 'mini' rant over and it's just my take on two points that piss me off. As said, Roflwaffle has pretty much covered the proper critiques of this game and I agree with 99% of what he says.
I like what Spec two has added in some areas like the races library and more chilli races, but it's by no means fixed the game. I also know that some parts of the game I'd Critique wont have a hope to be fixed till at least the next game.

I have a feeling (albeit a very unqualified one) that Polyphony might be ramping up with the extra monthly content. The Spec II update feels like it was the originally intended base for the game to expand from. Not to mention GT Sport being shut down, having to compete with the newly released Forza, over 18 months later it’s still a full priced game, and Polyphony still haven’t added promised things such as longer endurance races. The next one or two GT7 updates will be critical for its future success.

Honestly how hard would it be for them to make a separate single player mode based on the old GT career mode and separate the Cafe mode from the GT mode like old GTs did it with Arcade mode? I'd say probably not too hard to implement and would literally give the players exactly what they wanted from GT7, it makes me think the Cafe thing was planned for GT Sport but giving tons of free updates the money was running low so they had to release basically GT Sport Spec 2.0 aka GT7. All they had to do was give a good and solid single player experience for it to be loved by fans, it's too focused on giving free cars like Forza Horizon 5 which makes it not too replayable, and the Cafe mode is literally boring as hell, I miss having the option to pick which car I want to race nexy based on the free selection of events presented to me, rather than going a linear path and forced to do what the game wants me to do, that's not what Gran Turismo is, Gran Turismo is literally about buying a shtbox, upgrading it to compete with faster cars in the Amateur leagues. Then getting your racing license to become a professional. Basically a Zero to Hero kinda gameplay mode. All they need to do is make a GT Mode update, and separate it from the Online Cafe mode and everyone will be happy.

I actually bought a PS5, my very first console ever, only to play GT7, because I was so intrigued by the graphics and cars. It's all as said in this video: All the parts of the game are totally disconnected, navigating the game is a user experience insult, single player career mode becomes rather dull after just a few days of playing the game, and everything ends up being about making virtual money to get those stupid cars...

I think it should be about a 3-4 month schedule on these things.
Because expecting MASSIVE updates Every month especially in the case of GT is just a fools errand.
What should be done is with the added races is to do more difficult ones, add in more of those races to challenge and entice SP fans. Maybe throw in a Sophy race or two as major events (JGTC styled event with Sophy AI would be nucking futs)
Then use the 3 or 4 month major updates for huge changes and additions
So basically once a month we get smaller updates with cars and Maybe a Difficult + Event thrown in here and there.
Then the 3 month Update for Massive stuff like New Courses (Which will also give them time to suggest theming...I want my Stars and Stripes back, damnit.), New features, and balancing changes.
They seem to be really getting used to how their AI Works and how it can be used to create fun events.

I absolutely agree with your first point. The magic in GT, and most racing games for me, was finding new, unique, or interesting cars that I hadn't fallen in love with before, and being fascinated by them.
Sure, the Porche 911 is really cool, but you can see that anywhere, and you know how it's good, and it has a good reputation. The most memorable cars in many racing games, especially GT (I mean look at the meme cars videos) are ones that you wouldn't expect.
A car that everyone knows and loves and is in every form of car media is just a car where you go "huh. neat" and move on after trying it out. A new, interesting, or just strange car is one that you actually look into.

For anyone attempting to make AI for a racing game, you need to study the AI in NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. The AI has a preferred line it sticks to and two "lines" that dictate the farthest to the inside and outside of the track it can go. Following it's preferred line, it has "look ahead" values dictated by one of the game's files that tells the AI the angle they're going to be taking and the individual AI calculates how much speed it can carry based on multiple attributes it has, such as the car's characteristics and the individual AI's skill ratings. On top of that, one of the AI's skill ratings is "Consistency", meaning if that value is too low sometimes the AI will underdrive a corner or overdrive a corner and drift off it's preferred line a little. Sometimes, depending on how you have the track and AI setup, it can cause the AI to make genuine mistakes on it's own where either it wrecks or it wrecks someone else.
The AI is also programmed to be aware of other cars, and if you know how, you can pull up the line that the AI is looking at and you can see it constantly adjusting so that it doesn't hit other cars.
With some tweaks, it could be perfect. How to make good AI is already out there and it's been known how to do it for close to 2.5 decades now. In the PS1 days Polyphony had an excuse, but by the PS3 there was no excuse. PCs had done it since 1994. It's an AI system that many MANY more racing games should've adapted and the genre should have never moved away from.

Personally I really like the so called "glorified time attack races".
One of my favorite games of all times is Trackmania after all.
Gt7 races are an interesting in-between. They aren't full-on time attack, as you have to deviate from using the ideal line over and over.
But they also are excellent learning tools.
One cool thing is how consistent the AI is. If you retry the race and have the same pace, you will overtake AIs in the same corners.
Why this matters is, you visually get to see if you are driving slower/faster between retries. After a few attempts, you may find a way to take a corner way better, but then you have to find new lines for the rest of the track as the AI will now be in different places.
It's a constant learning experience which pushes you to drive better.

I've agreed with alot of your criticisms of GT 7 in the past, but this is too much on the hyperbolic train. Part of the reason that PD was so lazy with earlier updates is because they didn't have any competition; the last main Forza game before FM8 was 2017 and PD released two games in the time since. That year and a half in between GT7 and FM8, PD grew complacent. Now, with FM8 in full swing, PD will pull the bootstraps back up after being reminded what being in competition is like.

The AI opponents should be programmed to stay approximately at a skill level that can achieve a respectable or impressive lap time depending on the difficulty the race is meant to present and adjustments to compensate for the player getting ahead or behind should be minimal enough that it can be passed off as either an increase in the AI's focus in response to falling behind or a relaxing of the AI's aggression in response to getting far ahead. That's the only approach that would make me feel like this is an advancement over GT2 which, as I understand it, didn't use AI as the PS1 wasn't capable of AI. Instead, GT2 used overpowered cars to compensate for the computerized drivers' inability to compete with skilled drivers in identical cars, thus presenting the same challenge to all players. Some players found the challenge easier than others but if you were a player who could win a challenging race without much trouble, either because you drove so well or because you tuned your car so well (a legitimate skill) or both, that was something that felt like an accomplishment and, if you really had to work at a race to beat it, that felt like a HUGE accomplishment. So far in GT7, even when I feel a sense of accomplishment for beating a race that took me a while to beat, I feel more frustration than accomplishment because every time I tried the race again and drove better, the AI drove better too so when I eventually did well enough that I'd have won my first attempt at the pace I'd developed over several tries, I was still losing. When I feel the greatest sense of accomplishment the game can give me, I shouldn't feel more frustrated than accomplished.
Response to "What's the Point (Summary + My Thoughts)": Why is the balance skewed so far toward the more casual players who are less likely to invest as much time into the game? Because Polyphony did a capitalism. The only gameplay which contributes any money to any affiliate of Polyphony is online gameplay. Other than that, all they care about is sales so appealing to as many people as possible is more important than appealing at all to the few true fans of the game series. Appealing to the few true fans of anything over appealing at least a little to everyone is not the most profitable thing to do so, when you only care about making money and don't care at all about actually creating something anyone truly loves, you create what we got from GT7 instead of something that truly deserves to bare the same name as Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo 2 and Gran Turismo 3... even Gran Turismo 4 deserved the name in some degree.

Glad someone else thinks the same. My major gripe is that they still didn't make getting money any easier, because the events are too boring without it

If they fixed the VR UI *so it's not identical to GT Sport's offline-only custom UI* & missing absolutely crucial data so we can FAIRLY race in VR online instead of proclaiming how "everything" in GT 7 is in VR, it would be a bigger update than this...
Sorry, I love Gran Turismo, sincerely, I'm just frustrated with Gran Turismo 7, or as I like to call it on our weekly racing series, "GT Sport 2.0"

in the context of GT7, its a pretty great update, but the failures of GT7 as a GT game run a bit deeper than some new cars and weekly events - the matter of fact is this wont change.
HOWEVER, if PD can followup to SpecII and keep this momentum, the game will still be far improved from where it was at launch. honestly the doomer GT shit is getting kinda old.

Ya know what, I really like GT7, despite all the faults. It's still a great place to collect cars and enjoy them. It's a shame it's more e-sport focused online without much chance to race the things you collect, but lobbies are always great fun for that so I can survive. I really enjoyed the single player stuff, though it is indeed limited.

    A kind of Mixed feelings
I enjoy the GT-Sport online features, online racing available to any people, but also dislike the idea of this being the WHOLE game
I grow up playing older GT games, personally i love the Hard Grinding style of GT3, i mean, instead of the lack of cars and tracks, it was the pinnacle of the original series, Special Stages 5/11 events, Like the Wind, Formula Polyphony Championship, a Simple but fuctional menu for leagues, Beginner, Amateur, Profesional, Endurance and Rally events, the Car Dealership style; all cars before being selected they were shown like they were seen in pamphlet, the way to get win cars, forcing you to replay some events to win Race cars, Road version cars and finally the Identity and style of the game, a propper Original Sound track

Not enough real off line content. I'm sure that's intentional. Still, who wouldn't enjoy more circuits, and more events to enjoy the vast car collection that is of no use! I find myself doing time trials, just to drive some of my collection. Yayyy.
Been playing this game since its inception. Like most new video games, the improved graphics seem to be a distraction from the realization that I'm not having much fun, at all.
Whatever. Apathetic game manufacturers, create apathetic game players.

Haven't watched all of the video yet, i will edit the comment once im done, however i do agree that Spec II does not fix the game. It is a huge step in the right direction, however its clear that more work needs to be done. I am very happy with the update and everything it changed, however it isn't yet the game we were promised it to be.

What bothers me is we cant tune i mean buying parts for our cars before racing idk how to explain i want to buy parts in racing menu like i want racing exhaust and brakes i need to leave the race menu go all the way to GT AUTO and i need to do it over and over again sometimes i compare cars for example c63 amg vs bmw m4 i need to upgrade them for that i need to leave race go back to gt auto come back again. My wish is that we can use gt auto for upgrades in racing menu like before race starts where it says car options i hope i can explain myself thanks :)

I'm really hoping for a spec III. As less people are playing the game then launch, i hope the good criticisms reach the devs.
And, I really hope by then, Sophie becomes more developed that they include it in their cups and if they actually update the career mode (or overhaul it completely), have it included for all the races, with different settings.
Like the race where you start in 1st and have to defend, the settings are made so the ai are more aggressive, while the one where you have to reach 1st place are slightly less aggressive, but more based on defense.

I play the game on PS4pro and the gameplay is so much better now. The handling has improved overall and it is more fun to play. So im happy with update 1.40. im not happy about the lack of real tracks like Silverstone, Monaco and Road America. Plus the lack of sporty road cars we own ourselves like a Volvo type R or a Ford Mondeo STi. I currently have a Honda prelude 2.2 Vti and those cars are realy fun to drive irl, but they are not in the game. 😢
Maybe a subject for your new video.

This is just a beginning as far we can see, as for the event you mention back then the thumbnail of nation 2019X are the exact same and it is quite possible they can add more for each month for bigger variety of events and more chili pepper challenge, heck maybe we can get that snow track from GT5 and 6 after all since we now have snow tires, now if only they can add more electric tune parts for EV/Hybrid type. December has to big holiday update, I wanted to reach at least 500 cars and 30-40 events and maybe more cars ticket from weekly challenge since is more 100% chance and sellable for profit. As for the finals are coming too we might get special event for limit time, who knows perhaps GT7 can be saved after all.

They just need to add a "randomizer" at this point...
Just choose say a championship of 5 tracks, with your own parameters, difficulties and the game AI will put your grid and payout there.
People want to play this game, and I don't see why not a single game has this, my idea comes from the GT2+ mod, where it's there. It's pretty simple yet great.

My honest advice as a true GT fan since 1998: Go play the older games! The GT franchise has turned itself into a Titanic, it hit the ice berg, sunk and now lays on the bottom of the ocean floor. Shame that Kaz isn't the captain that stayed on the ship.

The payouts are still rather terrible, given how expensive the cars in the game are, and the tuning as well. It's even worse when the amount of "decent paying races" is very low, which makes grinding very repetitive.
In past games, money wasn't that much of a problem, because we had a ton of events (plus some high paying seasonal events in GT5), and the cars were a lot less expensive. Back in GT6, we had like four or five 20 million Cr. cars, now we have a lot more, plus all the other cars that cost millions each, and even lower tier cars like the R34 Skyline which now goes for 500k Cr. Add to that the cost of engine swaps for some cars.

My driving skills are quite ok, but nowhere near yours and I still think those chili pepper races are the by far most enjoyable thing in the game.
