    Wow, this guy beat me to it. I wanted to work on the very same kind of thing after my current N64 transfer pak project. In fact, the way he did it with gba multiboot, including the professor character as introduction screen are very similar to what I had in mind.
    I almost can't believe this.

      My response seems to keep disappearing, but It'll try one more time.
      My current project is named PokeMe64, but it's not public yet. I'm still working on the UI (menu elements and dialog widget).
      It's based on my previous project (libpokemegb on GitHub) (seems like posting the link makes my comment disappear), which can already inject distribution pokemon into gen 1 and gen 2 saves.
      For PokeMe64, I need to finish up my first version of the UI and write a plugin to apply my libpokemegb to the transfer pak before I can release it.
      Anyway, PokeMe64 uses libdragon for graphics, input and transfer pak functionality.
      But for now, it's not ready yet to be publicly released.

    Absolutely perfect! I was thinking that this very thing was missing from the Pokemon community. An elegant way to transfer from gen 2 that should be considered as official as it gets. Since it follows the conversion conventions of the Poke Transporter, as soon as it gets to the Pokemon Bank it's indistinguishable from a Pokemon transferred from virtual console. It's not cheating at all. Perfect.
    PS: Maybe "stabilization" of Mew and Celebi, shouldn't be a feature. There are in-game ways to stabilize them.

    • @InF3XioN
      @InF3XioN 4 месяца назад

      @@djdjdijon I disagree. If you already have the necessary hardware to do that, and a modded 3DS, and a virtual console version of the same game, this would be the case. But it requires a lot of expertise and knowledge. The Poke Transporter GB just bridges the gap between the second and the third gen, in a simple way. It doesn't even require a flashcard or a modded Gamecube/Wii. Multiboot loading of the Poke Transporter can be put through a very inexpensive build of a Raspberri Pi Pico and a simple shield for the Game Boy Game Link port, using akkera102's gba_3_multiboot project. All the other necessary hardware components are official.

    Hey! I've been seeing some people complaining about the limitations of this method, so I'll drop this info here.
    For transfering from gen 1/2 to gen 3, you can also use "Pokémon Gen 3 to Gen X", which was one of the inspirations of this project. It mimics the Timecapsule, which was how gen 2 was able to trade to gen 1.
    It always generates legal Pokèmon in terms of encounter, while also not deleting the moves you give them (if you want to transfer the Pokèmon to Home, you may need to delete the illegal moves eventually, but it's up to the final user, and not the software: this allows stuff like No Guard Fissure Machamp in Gen 4). It keeps shinyness and other stuff as well! It also gives you more control on the nature of the generated Pokèmon, as well as many other features, like support for all languages, or the fact that it can work both via multiboot AND cart swapping, making it accessible to more people.
    It is less "pretty" and "user friendly", but it's an homebrew which gives more power to the user. :)

    Hey, so a bit after I saw this video, I found out that it's actually possible to use GBA Link Cables to connect GB/GBC games. And it's actually quite simple to do, the only caveat is that you need *two* Link Cables for it to work. Basically, you just plug the P2 (grey) ends of the cables into the GBAs and the P1 (purple) ends into the other cable's additional port, essentially daisy chaining them together.

      @@MegaMetal96 And there's a big difference between developers having a genuinely hard time figuring something out in their alloted, limited development window and being "incompetent". Fans have been coming up with solutions for a large variety of ideas, such as making sophisticated save editing software that can break down everything in a game's save file over a decade ago. You'd think they would have created a transfer feature in the near two decades fans have been doing this.

    • @MegaMetal96

      @@Dad_Shoes I feel like you have no idea how mons are actually programmed in this game and you’re just arguing for the sake of arguing. DVs are 0-15 in gen 1/2 and IVs are 0-31 so you could literally just double it and add a 50/50 chance to add 1 and you have a perfectly fine algorithm. For EVs you add up all the stat exp and distribute it evenly. Add a simple check to make sure you don’t go above 252 in an individual stat and you’re good. See I did it in 3 minutes because I was bored. It doesn’t take a team of developers to do something so simple.

  • @joemck85
    @joemck85 4 месяца назад

    Nice! I'm guessing it's injecting some code through an ACE exploit in the gen 1-2 link protocol so it can read out a box instead of doing 1:1 trades like the game is designed to do.
    Lorenzoone has a different GBA homebrew tool that does 1:1 trades between 1/2 and 3, and can even send GBA Pokémon back to the older games, but at the cost of more modification so they can retain certain data. I don't think his always results in Home-legal pokes though.
    And of course there's Goppier's which uses a separate device in the middle so both games just see a trade.
    As for why Game Freak didn't do this, even in it's GBC-like link mode, the GBA link port is 3.3 volts while the GB/GBC one is 5 volts. In practice, you plug it together and it just works despite the voltage difference, and does so for all models of Gameboy I tested it with. However, it's definitely not kosher by the specs, and I doubt Nintendo would have allowed them to release a game that has players do it.

    • @joemck85
      @joemck85 4 месяца назад

      To clarify, when the GBA has a GB cartridge in it and it's in GB mode, the link port is 5 volts. But as long as it's running in GBA mode, it's 3.3 volts. So even linking 2 GBAs, if one of them has a GBA game in it and the other has a GB game, you will have a voltage mismatch.

    The Fateful Encounter part seems weird since that is supposed to be used as an anti-cheat measure for Mew and Deoxys. Technically that would mark them as "illegitimate" to Nintendo, though it becomes mute upon transferring them to Gen IV since the Pal Park wipes the met data, except for the version, and simply notes whether it is from Kanto, Honenn, or a distant land. Though this makes me wonder what it will say for pokemon from the Gen 2 games. Does it just say Kanto? Since it is the closest to Johto and they share the same League. Or does it say Honenn? Since you transferred them to one of the Honenn games.
    Can't say Distant Land since that is reserved for XD and Colosseum and there is a very limited selection of pokemon that can be found there and most of them will have the national ribbon.

    This is so cool!! I have two questions:
    1. Do you know if this works cross language?
    2. If a pokemon from gen 1 has stats that would make it shiny in gen 2, would this also be able to read that and make it shiny in gen 3?

    • @thegearsofprogress1964
      @thegearsofprogress1964 4 месяца назад

      Currently only English releases of gen 1/2/3 are supported, but all languages are planned to have support in the future! As for shininess- yes! There was a bug with shininess in v0.2.2, but as of v0.2.4 shininess will transfer correctly from both generations and will be seen as legal (outside of Mew/Celebi of course).

    There Is A Another Way Of Doing That And I’ll Type It Out
    Step 1 : Download PKhex
    Step 2 : Rip The Saves
    Step 3 : Copy Stats And Moves EVs And IVs
    Step 4 : Create The Pokemon
    Step 5 : Click The Checkbox If It’s Says Legal Then Congrats Export The Save And Boom Burn The Save To The Cartridge! And If You Want You Can Just Remove The Pokemon From The Old Save!
    Glad If It Helped!!

      I would argue that a custom-made cart of this would cost just as much/if not more than a flash cart. But also it's editing the 3rd gen save while on the same gameboy, doing it from a separate GameBoy couldn't work. Could use GameCube if you don't have a flash cart. Having/getting a third gameboy could/would also be as expensive as a flash cart

    • @lostsaves

      If you catch them legitimately, trade them up, and Home accepts them legitimately, that’s legitimate enough for basically everyone

    • @Mrperson0
      @Mrperson0 4 месяца назад

      @@lostsaves Home's hack checks aren't the best out there. You can make a good amount of hacked Pokemon go through such as a Gen 1 VC shiny Mew (which is impossible legitimately) and a Gen 3 English Faraway Island Mew (only legitimately possible on Japanese copies of Emerald).
      Is it good enough for what people want? Sure, but fact of the matter is, they aren't legitimate or legal.

    • @lostsaves
      @lostsaves  4 месяца назад +1

      If Home doesn’t detect it, who’s policing what’s legal/legitimate at this point?
      If I legitimately catch a pokemon in a game and transfer it up, and Home lets me use it fine, it’s as legitimate as I’m ever going to care about. That’s literally THE desired outcome, that’s what everyone wanted from these kinds of systems. No amount of being pedantic about it will change that experience for the rest of us lol

    • @Mrperson0
      @Mrperson0 4 месяца назад

      @@lostsaves The person policing it is yourself, especially if you use them in a multiplayer setting (trading or battling). If you are willing to hack for yourself, there is no issue with that, you shouldn't even care about whether Home detects or not.
      Just don't try to pass this off as a great achievement for "legitimacy" when it isn't legitimate nor legal. Also, I think Gen 2 to Gen 3 transfers have been possible for years with software, which is the same end result.
      In the end, I do admit that a lot of work was put into this software, to the point where it edits the ROMs of the official games as well buy injecting custom code (like that "Transferring" screen in your Pokemon Blue and how Lanette/Bill hold your transferred Pokemn for you).

    • @lostsaves
      @lostsaves  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah this is just needlessly pedantic and a waste of time. The bar, for most people on a practical level and *officially* , is Pokémon Home clearance.
      The whole spirit of this is to take your *legitimate* teams with you across games. This tool lets you do that while also keeping your teams safe to register as legitimate in Home.
      Arguing legitimacy is not a good use of anyone’s time on earth at that point. Don’t like it, don’t use it.
      I’ve seen a few postings of people hacking their own way to transfer Pokemon between the games, but they never really end up being user-accessible tools in the end. This one is easy to use and quite accessible, all things considered. Hence my excitement, the excitement of many of the commenters here, etc.

      They aren’t recognized that way since there’s only code to see them that way straight from the games on VC and that doesn’t exist when simply trading them up to third gen. That’s why there’s the stabilize option being worked on

      Also adding on, Celebi was only distributed in Japan through the GS Ball event. You would have to hookup your landline and Game Boy to get the GS Ball. Then head to Ilex Forest and interact with the shrine. Celebi can also be gotten through the Japanese version of Pokemon Colosseum in gen 3 using the special bonus disc
