I just them on this tour leg. I wouldn’t exactly say he’s a hard hitting drummer. He was very precise the whole night. Soft and direct. Judith was the only song he seemed to pick up the pace and out more energy into.

Amazing vocals by Maynard. Proff that the vocals style he chose for the most recent Tool and APC albums were a style choice rather than "I cant do that anymore".
Something seems to have happened in the past 12 months to Maynard's voice - in a very good way! He has a lot more confidence and is landing all the high notes effortlessly in these APC bangers. I'd be curious to know if he's had any vocal training in the lead up to the Sessanta Tour. Sounding fucking great for 60 MJK!!!

@jambi711 Being the truck driver who failed to make the show because of Denver weather and the I-40 closure due to the train derailment, I can confirm this is true
Lol, why wouldn't they know how to play different instruments? It probably took 5-10 minutes to tune the guitar and bass, and Josh just has the drums positioned like he's used to. Not having their own instruments would've made little to no difference.
Even though it was delayed Kansas was kinda better because they played anything off Mer De Noms it was already dark so the songs of Mer De Noms were all in orange. IJS

they played the night before in Red Rocks, and their gear got caught in a snowstorm on the way to Vegas. They're not playing their own instruments in this video, it's all borrowed gear or stuf they managed to buy last minute (this was an 11am show I think?). Fascinating stuff! Primus was also playing at that festival and they were in the same boat. There's a video of Les Claypool playing a bass he had to buy the morning of, with tags still attached 😄
No, it’s 1) because he can get a better sounding audio mix for him while he’s playing. It can be difficult to hear the vocals when you are standing in front of loud guitar/bass amps. And the guys in Tool both have massive rigs. I think he started doing it with them, and brought it over for APC. And Maynard has a lot more softer vocal parts than a lot of hard rock singers do. And 2)He can also see what’s going on over the whole stage better (kind of like how football coaches sometimes have coaching booths half way up the stadium, so they can see the whole field). This way he can visual communicate with the other band guys for changes in the songs (he’s not a very tall man lol)..-I just read all of this from an interview he recently did..
I just recently saw Maynard open up about his mother and how she had a stroke and he had to grow up watching her suffer. Her name was Judith he made wine in her memory. This song makes a whole lot more sense now. As it was obvious that this still affects him. It comes out in his performance and still helps him deal.
