Indianapolis vs. New England "Manning's Revenge" (2006 AFC Championship) NFL Classics

- In what is widely considered to be the best Brady-Manning game of all time and one of the greatest games in NFL history, Peyton Manning engineers an 18 point comeback, the largest in conference championship history, culminating in a 3-yard touchdown run by Joseph Addai to take the lead at 38-34 with 1:02 left to play. Tom Brady would have one last chance to drive his team to victory, but was intercepted in Colts territory, killing the drive and sending Indianapolis to the Super Bowl. Manning had never beaten Brady in a postseason game up to this point, and was a combined 2-6 against him leading up to the contest, therefore earning this game the name "Manning's Revenge.'
I'm glad they got rid of the Push Out rule.
Agreed. You’re in or you’re out(period)
Agreed
I forgot all about that rule !!!!!! 😂
yeah that rule was retarded now that I think about it. got my pack in the playoffs in 03 tho lol
Some of the throws manning made in this game were unreal
Facts
Career*
Best playoff game of his career. Overall, pretty sub-par in the postseason
Proved his greatness en route to his first championship!
He’s got heart. After he threw that pick 6, I thought the Colts were done for. Goners
As a Colts fan, my favorite game ever. A couple of things that struck me watching this:
1) Manning was so unbelievably accurate on some of these throws
2) I miss Dallas Clark, that dude was a beast
3) I still got nervous at the end, especially when Reggie Wayne almost fumbles
Robert Hiland If Reggie Wayne fumbled it, it would’ve never counted cuz of roughing the passer
Dallas Clark is such a Fox
As a Colts fan, This is my Fav game ever as well.
It is so hard to beat good teams with the run D we had.
Manning's passes were so much more accurate compared to Brady's.
@@Jay-ot3cq despite he had a picksix?
Sweetest words I’ve ever heard “Colts are going to the super bowl”. Man.
How about " The Colts win the super bowl"?
@@brandonohara4122 That's even better
From this point The patriots never beat peyton manning in the playoffs again.
Wow. Yeah. That’s right. Peyton was better at beating brady and the pats in the playoffs and brady was better at beating peyton and his team during the regular season.
small sample size - 2 games
@@animalmother4 After 2004, Brady was 0-5 in the playoffs against the Manning's
@@rios9000 right but his comment was referring to peyton. the pats played peyton in the playoffs in 2013 and 2015 seasons.
I mean it was only twice more lol
It's crazy to see how much arm talent manning used to have before the neck injury if only that never would have happened to him and he might still be playing like brees and brady
No fucking way lol
@@anthonyhutchins2300 And how the fuck do you know this? Manning loves the game and could take hits. If not for his neck injuries, the odds are he would have kept playing. Don't sit there and act like you know what you're talking about because you clearly don't.
@@anthonyhutchins2300 Manning had never missed one game before he had his neck surgery.
I will never forget this game, I cried like a baby when the colts intercepted that throw!!
Me too!! I'll never forget ❤
Intercepted! Marlins got it! We're going to the superbowl! We're going to the superbowl!
I remember watching this game and saying to myself, "If Peyton is an elite QB, he'll comeback and win." And he did. Great game.
Manning’s precision tho. Omg

Being from Indianapolis, this was the best thing to ever happen to the city. Colts4lyf
Im glad we won the super bowl that year but to me this was the best game of the entire season
Felt better than the Super bowl win, god I hated those patriots😤
@@montellrose5765 we were so close lol
This was basically the superbowl. Let's be real here. The bears lead by Rex Grossman isn't that much of a threat
@@loganpaul3654either way if it was the vs the 2006 Saints, Manning would’ve torched them.
I don't have too many memories of beating New England but I'll always have this one. What a game..
I had colts -3.5. What a game 😂
I'm not even a Colts fan but I always cheered for Manning...Being that I was young and watched him seince his college day I felt a certain attachment to him and to finally see him get over the hump was special almost emotional reflecting on the highlights now....
In Indianapolis this game is more revered than the super bowl 2 weeks later.
"Marlin's got it, we're goin' to the super bowl!!!"
This pretty much was the Super Bowl that year. Colts and Pats were the two best teams.
@@obersports Chargers were the best team that year actually, they just choked in the playoffs against this very Patriots team, losing due to a fumbled interception and a last second missed field goal.
@@yetz2291 Colts weren’t going to be denied.
Every damn time the afc championship came it was a Super Bowl with these 2 teams. I hated they were in the same division and wished they would’ve met in Super Bowl all those year lol
@@yetz2291 I agree. Also I would argue that the Colts the year before were much better and chocked against the Steelers in the divisional round. (Nick Harper, who got stappwd in the thigh by his GF the night before the game, recovered a Jerome Bettis fumble (oat the goal line on what looked to be a game sealing td, and appeared to be headed toward the end zone, but Big Ben made just enough of a play to get him to the ground, and then Vanderjagt missed the game winning field goal)
And the 2009 Colts who lost to NO in the SB . Were better than both (14-0 before Caldwell benched Manning and key starters in the final 2 games)
Oh, eat that bitter pie, New England. I remember that game. Best game I have ever watched.
pats would've been confused after the game..they finished the game with less points than the other team
We're still winning. What have the Colts done since 2006?. Fuck the Colts, enjoy your participation Banner!.

I’m a colts fan, I remember this game live. At halftime it seemed that once again Brady would get the best of manning. That comeback was one of the best memories of my childhood. Man I miss seeing an elite QB leading our team
Hopefully Richardson will become one 🙏
That' s one of the reasons I always liked the conference championship games more than SB.
There are great SB games no doubt, but the AFC and NFC finals are special because of the many devision rivalries.
I hope Brissett is watching these highlights!! The Colts are an underdog team always have been always will be! Let's dig deep and prove we are a force boys
This game made the colts-patriots rivalry
i like the 2009 reg season game where the pats went for it on 4th and 2
Disagree we played so many great games before this one I think this put an element of parity on the colts side as the Patriots dominated the rivalry before it
Uhhh no. Thats why this game is coined 'Mannings Revenge.' The title implies there was a rivalry leading up to this game. Which there definitely was.
You must be younger
this shit was a rivalry waaaaay before this game.
Manning and Brady played against each other 4 times in AFC Championship Games. Manning won 3 of 4. Head to head, on the grandest stage possible, Manning was the GOAT.
Wow I forgot about a couple of things. That throw to Marvin Harrison on the 2 point conversion was perfect. I also forgot that Freeney was the one that forced Brady to throw the interception at the end.
My all time favorite Colts game.
Helluva game! Loved the ending, with Tom Terrific getting intercepted! He was so cocky. The bastard thought his Pats were invincible. Loved it even more when Giants ruined his perfect season.
This was one of the first big, “instant classic” football games that I watched. Will always remember it. For sure more memorable than the Super Bowl ended up being that year.
As a colts fan and Hoosier who grew up on the far north side , I am so damned proud of this moment...
46th and keystone here.. the Wayne near fumble uggh!!! But deciding to take 3 at the end of the 1st half momentum changed with the drive, thinking back so glad we didn't go for it, although Wayne was interfered,
The Wayne near fumble still give me a heart attack
If it makes you feel any better, if he lost the ball it would have been called back with the roughing the passer penalty.
I miss these matchups. Peyton is my goat
I was at this game and was angry for like 75% of it lol. What a comeback. I go to maybe one game a year and was lucky enough to go to the 45-44 wild card game in 2013 vs. the Chiefs and unlucky enough to be at the Browns game this past season with those two horrible calls at the end.
Great game...two of the top 5 QBs of all time going at it.
Mitch Tribisky will be a top 5 QB of all time!!!
James Rando lol
Brady is maybe top 10. Not top 5. System QB who had great defenses.
Matt Mason your a idiot
@@mattmason6953 brady is number 1 lmao what a clown
If the manning family didn’t exist Tom Brady would have like 10 rings
Well, I'm so glad the Manning family exist in this world. Because of Archie, both Peyton and Eli are true legends of Football. No one knows if another Manning will get drafted
In theory 11
Yeah literally 11 rings
@@davidsantoselmellodelamarg4923 Cooper son Archer is a fucking beast too. Depends where he goes for college. I think LSU
@@davidsantoselmellodelamarg4923 Peyton Manning is a legend and possibly the greatest quarterback of all time. Eli Manning IS NOT A LEGEND!!!
As a colts fan, this was so perfect in illustrating what he was dealing with ESP against NE. Defense getting carved up and then several key special teams plays. He had some bad games no lie, but this happened more in losses than anyone but colts fans might realize
Still one of the greatest games iv ever seen. Alot of emotions.
Man it never gets old!! Colts Fanatical 4 life!!!!!
It’s a debate over which one of these quarterbacks are the best but it’s not a debate that when these two played it resulted it some of the most thrilling and exciting games ever.
One qb dinked and dunked, one did not
You're kidding yourself if Brady is an "exciting" or "thrilling" player
james smith bruh what Brady had no one to throw deep to this year watch the next year with moss that was exciting
My goodness I’ve been binging your vids for the past day and a half. It’s so rare to find someone who uploads good games with the original commentary and not with Deion annoyingly shouting every 8 seconds. Good shit dude, hope you can continue this and maybe sprinkle in a few Giants games along the way :D
Oh men, I miss so much my Colts.
This was one of the greatest AFC Championship Games I’ve ever seen. It was a couple years in the making. From not being able to beat the Pats, to that horrible loss to Pittsburgh the year before with kicker missing the FG. To being down 21-3 and not rolling over saying here it goes again.
God, that Pittsburgh loss.
And let's not forget that if Wayne ends up losing that ball, it's yet another horrible loss for Peyton at the hands of Tom Brady.
The narrative about Peyton was never true, but imagine if somehow, a Wayne fumble beat the Colts. You better believe the idiots on the media would have continued the "Peyton can't win the big one!" talk, with a large dose of "Sure, he might have led them back, but it was his fault they were behind in the first place!"
Come to think of it, why do any of us even bother listening to the sports media? This is an industry that still pays the likes of Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd.
@@rappcu Idiot kicker apparently got liquored up again.
This was our Super Bowl. I’ll never forget January 21, 2007. Never ever. Nothing can top this. (Not even November 2, 2016 in Cleveland)
What game was this? You mean 2014?
@@TheLirJEt86It is 2014. Colts never played Cleveland in 2016
IMO, I think this game is equivalent to the Cowboys vs 49ers 1992 NFC Championship, talk about changing of guard
Good ol defense wins championships, that int by Jackson sealed the deal
The best experience as a colts fan to this day
You are not no Colts fans stop it
Better than the actual SuperBowl!
8:40 Manning side steps the rush, jiggers up a step and throws a dime. What-a-play.
I believe its pronounced jiggas
Without a doubt the greatest football game I've ever witnessed. "Marlin Jackson!!!"
I am thirteen and watching this for the first time. Despite knowing the outcome, my heart DROPPED as he fumbled then recovered his own fumble
This was the real Super Bowl
I love how the ball just casually rolls away from a huge pile at 1:12 😂😂 It’s hilarious!!
Thanks to Manning brothers the Brady brothers don't have 9 superbowls
11 Superbowls... Peyton beat him in the 06/13/15 AFC championship games and Eli in the SB 07/11
Thanks to the MAnning Brothers, Brady doesn't have 11 super bowls. Eli Beat him in 2 SBs, and Peyton beat him in 3 AFC champs. Remember, QBs don't play each other.
Tommy Rosati comments like this show pure ignorance
@@jamessmith-pq9zr ??? Qbs don't play each other, I stick by that. When are peyton manning and topm brady on the same field at once??
Who’s ready for the colts to do it again
With a good QB, better WR's and pass rushers..then they'll be ready
The linemen scored almost all the TD 😂😂
The whole “Manning chokes in the off-season” falls apart with this game.
Don't get me wrong I think its bs to blame just Manning for those losses. But honestly, the label only died for two years. It came right back after Tracy Porter's pic six in the SB against NO. I wish Manning would have had a big WR to complement Wayne or Harrison. Indy's smaller WRs got pushed around too much in the post season. And manning was a statue in the pocket. If they weren't where he wanted the ball to go originally, he wasn't the type to buy time
@@mariomanningfan Manning’s career playoff record is 14-13; definitely many games his teams should’ve won and also his teams were one and done in the playoffs 9 times
@@devinjerryfreedomisfree4599 we'll never really know at this point but i wonder. Were those 9 one and dones the result of Manning and his WRs dragging a bad team through a weak AFC South to the post season where they were exposed to actual competition? Or was it that Manning's legendary preparation was everyone else's playoff mode and once everyone jumped into the playbook like he did, he had no extra advantage athletically or otherwise? Though he's still my favorite QB, I have definitely come to realize as I age, that he is on a short list but there were better QBs. Though indy was a perrineal 6-10, 4-12 team before Manning arrived, a regular 12-4/13-3 with him, and now they seem headed back to the "getting a wildcard is a great year" kind of team. Like the cavs with/without lebron
I think the colts coaching staff should get a lot of the blame. At some point you have to completely change the gameplan/playcalling.
@@benmaloy9757 yeah but honestly Manning WAS the offense. Nobody Polian or irsay hired could tell Manning what to do. Dungy made it work but it def took an understanding coach to lead a team with Peyton.
This was the Superbowl. And yes, Manning is the GOAT.
lol, sure he is
This the Game that made the Patriots go out and get Moss and wes.
Brady is the goat
Peyton manning= 🐐
If manning had Brady's defense the yeah. He probably gets more rings.
I was 7 when I watched this game live on my living room floor. Still one of the best feelings was getting that INT to lock up the game
Marlon Jackson made the first tackle in the game, he also made the last play of the game with the interception
Regardless of what I watched with the Bills and Chiefs Sunday this year 2022, the 2006 AFC championship is my favorite game ever. As a colts fan.
Colts fan coming back to this game after tough loss against Buffalo today. We will be back #ForTheShoe
The ending of this game is one my earliest memories. I was a 6 years old Pats fan and I just remember watching the final colts TD play and then going to bed crying 🤣
What a squad the Colts had! Manning, Wayne, Harrison, Addai, Clark, Sanders, Bethea, Mathis, Brackett, Hayden, Freeney. Just wow!
The best game ever! We were there and thought the roof was going to come off the Dome when the Colts won!
So much nostalgia watching this :,)
Came here after reading the story in the book The Power of Habit. Great stuff from Colts and Tony Dungy
I'll still comeback and watch this all these years later. Lol
6:11 - the Colts "make the wrong move at the right time" - going for 2 to tie in that spot was risky because if they don't convert it changes the trajectory of the game. And the play wasn't good - it probably had about a 10% chance of success but one HOFer to another HOFer made it work and it was game on from there to the end.
You see what Peyton had for a run Defense?
If I was a colts fan in the RCA dome when Jackson got the pick I would have been sobbing. Had to feel so sweet for Indy.
People forget and correct me if I'm wrong that the colts played 3 top 10 defenses in the playoffs this post season run against the chiefs ravens and bears and two of those games were in rainstorm conditions against the ravens and bears. The only game against an evergae defense was this one. So when people bring up the sub par numbers you have to also take into account the caliber of defenses he was facing
Wow that’s a good analysis!! The year they won the SB happen to be my first year watching them and I was 9 years old! It was just the crazy plays Peyton and Marvin would make us what made me fall in love with football
This gave me goosebumps
So many years of frustration in my my city. First we lose Wayne Gretzky and the Racers to a tax cheat from Canada that sold the team to pay his lawyers. Then the Pacers finally make it to the NBA Finals only to meet up against Shaq and Kobe in their prime and lose in 6. Plus the malice in the palace disaster. And then the Colts get stopped time and time again by Tom Brady and The Patriots. It felt like Indianapolis would never win a championship in any sport. Until 2006.
It’s so weird seeing how fast he throw the ball here. Then in 2015 how slow his throws where. Same with his motion of throwing changing. That injury really messed him up.
This game was insane & I'm from Indianapolis IN. I'M GLAD PAYTON NOT ONLY BEAT TOM BRADY BUT WON US A CHAMPIONSHIP THANK YOU PAYTON MANNING.
My biggest memory from this game was late in the game the camera showed Brady on the sideline and he looked so furious. I remember nothing else from this game other than the Colts came back from a big deficit.
If we’re talking about talent, Peyton Manning is the best QB of all time and it’s not close. The only argument against him is his subpar legacy which would’ve been better if he hadn’t spent so many years, pretty much his entire prime, with a defense that was anywhere from subpar to all time bad.
6:12 ew that was an absolute dime
Even though I was Colts fan, I didn't see that game. I was at the interment of my dad at a veteran's cemetery. I rejoiced later at the defeat of the NE Patriots.
The least you can say is WOW 💪🏼🔥
Still makes me smile.
As a die hard Colts fan I would like to thank Brady for one thing and one thing only, going to San Diego and upsetting the Chargers thereby bringing the AFC championship to our dome! I can objectively say that the Chargers were the best team in the league that year and there was no way we would have beaten them in their stadium.
What an absolute SQUAD. We earned it for sure that year. #BLEEDBLUE
jim nantz is the best play by play guy in football. He is like mike breen for the nba
This was the turning point of manning's career and his magnum opus
Best game i ever watched
The 2000s Colts deserve more respect.
Change my mind.
I remember watching this game live. Made $200 too. Great game
This was the superbowl. Whoever won this was taking down the Bears.
Peyton Manning was the equalizer, hopefully Mahomes does it.. Brady has enough rings already
so much for that
Our special teams play, particularly KR team, was always suspect back then, but this was as complete of a team as there ever was during the berth of the passing era. NE was very good too, but I truly feel this team and the year prior was so much better than any other NFL team. You can see glimpses of it during this game but Bill had a great game plan and was the difference for NE that made them so competitive. Player for player the Colts were a step ahead better. Easy to say in hindsight, but also in hindsight this game should not have been close. Colts should have ran away with it .... very talented team.
So true! Colts were the better team except for KR. The year before they were the best team in the NFL except for an idiot kicker. :)
Peyton was something else during his prime. Brady obviously is the greatest of all time, but I enjoyed watching Manning more, for whatever reason.
They need to call this the Hump Game. It was all gravy for Mannings career after this game. Even tho we lost to the saints :(
That 2pt throw to Harrison is so ridiculous both in throw and route adjustment. That play to the pylon is called over and over again. The DB had it read perfectly. Somehow both QB and WR understand to take it 5 yards deeper in the end zone with a little lob to split CB and S. You would never write that up because it's so ridiculous. But they did it and made it look easy.
It just amazes me. We were sooo close. Sooo close and we were a wild card team at that. And to think we 99% likely would’ve won the super bowl since we already beat the bears during the regular season of 2006 😔
HA!!! GOODBYE TOM SHADY! AND I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE WITH TAMPA BAY NOW.
Loved it!
Manning with the clutch genes.
"Intercepted by Marlin Jackson! Colts are going to the Super Bowl!"
Damn moments like these make this sport the most popular in the states.
I hate when the stat nerds say Peyton didn't play well in this game because he had a 1 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio. It's so frustrating when people say that kind of stuff when so much game footage is available at our fingertips, this is definitely one of those times where you have to rip up the stat sheet and watch the film to really appreciate how great Peyton played. I've certainly never taken it for granted.
Tom Brady carried a team with no wide receivers to the AFC Championship. He was awesome that year given how little he had around him. I mean, he turned Reche Caldwell into a #1 WR, a guy who never broke 400 yards in any other season he played.
It was so fitting that Peyton had to go through New England to get BOTH of his rings.
Here after the Chiefs blew a 21-3 lead yesterday
How do you not have the play where Reche Caldwell was completely wide open, didn't even have a defender on him from the start of the play and he missed it?
What a game
Peyton is goat
