Yeah, I turned 18 in ‘91 and don’t think there was a time like it before (even the 60s) or since. We were very lucky and it was so unique, underground (even when the raves were in clubs for the first couple years) and absolutely mental. I wish I had the words to properly express my gratitude for your videos mate. We both value the nostalgia of these years and, although we didn't really know it at the time, sort of knew it was always going to stay with us. Special times, magic even! Just the way you describe your nights at Sterns (I never went, but had my own regular haunts in London, Roller Express, Astoria, Camden Palace, Rocket etc..) and drop in the not so subtle nods of our state of being (staring at something on the wall for 10 minutes!!! haha) just fill me with joy and invoke long forgotten memories. Jeez, i used to be in a state some nights! All this interspersed with the soundtrack of our youth, which was what it is all about, just cranks up up my nostalgia to 11. Keep them coming please Jake.
Mate I think you found the words perfectly 👊❤️ Cheers...and I'm so glad it all connects with you. Like I said at the end, all of these positive emotions and memories are here within is from this time...and we can access them, and bring them alive when we reminiscence together. Jake, another video you've knocked out of the park. Never personally went to Sterns (proper gutted about it too), but the vibrations across the land which that place spun were legendary. RIP Mensa - gone but not forgotten.
Awesome selection of tunes !!! For me there was 3 legendary clubs/raves of that era Sterns Eclipse and Astoria all of them had insane queues, the buzz of making it through the front doors never got old.❤🕊
The night at Sterns with Carl Cox & Colin Dale. It was early 92 and it was my first time at sterns with the Easter extravaganza flyer was just incredible to witness although I was aware it was starting to become more mainstream by then. Unfortunately travelling from Scotland we only got to go once. It’s something I’ll never forget going downstairs into that sweatbox was a major eye opener. The atmosphere was something special.🕊️🙌🕊️.
Absolute banging Video mate ✌️✌️👍👍Never managed to go there,Our club we used to got to was a club called Milwaukee’s just north of Bedford on a place called Souldrop Turn ,It was run by a rave group called Equinox, open on Fridays from 10pm - 6am we had the pleasure of Dj,s like Fabio,Dougal,Ellis Dee,Grooverider,Carl cox,LTJ bookem the list was endless. The mc was normally The Fat Controller, This place had a Banging Cerwin Vega sound system your ears still buzzed days later from this place, used to get our gear at the local boozer then head off in a couple of cars to the venue, drop a bit of speed 20mins before we arrived then most of us had Roos trainers which had a secret pocket in the toung which we hid our gear in 😂😂Bouncers didn’t have a clue 👍 This club was amazing, unfortunately now gone 😢 love you channel mate brings back so many good memories. Ps if you type in Milwaukee’s Bedford I’m sure there is some picture of the club in a bad state after a fire on the net 👍👍👍Also there quite a few vid on RUclips of mixes played live at this venue enjoy 👍👍
Yes mate I was just about to say Milwaukee’s used to have the wall of speakers with the couches behind and u could almost touch the ceiling in bits of it never a shit line up we went there loads🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟 awsome days never to be repeated
Same here Milwaukees was the best started going there in 1990 to the ESP Supernova's then the early helter skelters the bass in there was awesome them old people in souldrop moaning turn down the sound man that camo netting hanging down off the ceiling touching your head lol then everybody going over the road to the garage off their head with that massive alsation chilling out in there😂 It's a lorry park now always smile when I go past it now and then😎 Funhouse massive oi oi💯 Shout out to the rave yoda nice one👍
@@richiemac6101 yep remember asking the bouncers if we could run over the road to get some fags and let us back in 😂😂👍 The Asian guy that ran that petrol station must have made a fortune on rave nights and no one was fucking with him with that massive Alsatian dog he had, not that anyone could coz we were all off our fucking tits 🤪🤪🤪👍👍 Great great memories ✌️
Quality Jake.... takes me back to the early 90's would have love Sterns..... but being a northerner it was Hacienda, Middleton hippodrome, Oz, Millionaire Club, Shellys, Eclipse/The Edge etc for me ! Respekt to us, we were all lucky to experience that..... nothing will ever be like that time ...... 👌👌👌
thank you thank you thank you, had many good times up there (and Empire in Bognor) not to shabby on the mixing either sir! looking forward to listening to the set.
What a fantastic tribute to a truly memorable club and time of our lives. You've also captured the music perfectly from the sterns era with the selection of tunes representing the best of hardcore before the jungle l/hardcore split. Brilliant and respect mate 👏
Great reminisce to an amazing era ! I'm a northerner that happened to be in the navy serving in Gosport in the early 90's . Was really funny meeting other Navy lads and the customary 'whats your name where you from ?' followed by 'dont tell anyone you saw me here ! Raving was heavily frowned upon in the services
I went to hundreds of places throughout the 90s. Shelley's in Stoke Eclipse in Coventry Quest in Wolverhampton the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes and loads more but I never went to Sterns. I wish I had a time machine so I could go to Sterns. Love your passion bro. You know the score HARDCORE
Aaahhhh mate, that is a superbly put together video, loving the tune selection too. Your choice of vocabulary is always spot on but this goes up a notch! One of my memories is getting a fist pump on the underground stairs from MC Conrad ❤️. Wonderful STERNS tribute 👌
Love this so much. Well done mate. I was a member of the Sterns family and always will be. Terrorize “It’s Just A Feeling” that still gives me goosebumps to this day. That tune, a time and a place ! Unreal x
Love the channel. Cracking video and banging vinyl, obvious to see the love you put in to making this one. Unfortunately I never made it to Sterns but I am so grateful to have been a 92 raver. My local venue was flattened for housing, got to DJ there a couple of times as well
Jake I love your passion for the oldskool and hardcore. You take us to nostalgia nirvanna. Read a random comment on YT like 15 years ago now that I sometimes use to describe it. "Once you have had a chemical rendezvous with music the door is always open and never fully shuts." Pretty much sums it up for all us old ravers.
Mate I love that...and it's so true. A million words couldn't fully translate the experiential polishing that such a rendezvous has permanently laced these tunes with for us 😊❤️
such a real memoir serious tunage, some of which I don't think I have heard again since those days. one of the best Sterns tributes I've seen. Subbed and cant wait to watch this again and again. I'll never get that feeling of standing on the precipice of those stairs for what lay ahead nor the exit on a frosty morn.
Hi mate 👊 I'm glad the video resonated with you and kicked up some positive memories. I love your descriptions and I can sense how much the place meant you you too. Isn't it beautiful how much love and positive emotion is attached to our experiences there? 🙏 Thanks for being here and for sharing ❤️
Sadly missed, we used to get coaches over there from Weymouth, off dial. Feel privileged to have been involved in the scene when it was fresh, hard and new... RIP to the lost soldiers x
What an amazing tribute to Sterns & Mensa you bought back so many memories vividly mine are hazy at times so is nice to hear & see them clearly again, the roundabout is another vivid memory that’s never left me. Very emotional beauty this one nice one Jake ❤️
Awesome vlog Jake..i think you have nailed your passion for Sterns with this mix. Great memories & music.Look forward to when the full mix drops. Much Respect to ya bud 👊🏻
A heart warming tribute and great tune selection mate. Its so good to see Sterns getting the recognition it truly deserves as the greatest rave venue. Some really good detail about the place and the experience in here. Who knows, we could have been on that dancefloor together? Nice one..❤
Wicked insight into your formative years, never ventured to Sterns but it was always mentioned in high regard by everyone who went there and you've honoured it well in music and visuals. I think we all had our 'Home Venue' that we hold dear that has a special place in our memories and heart, but like Sterns (and I would imagine most places) they are just that, memories as they have either been repurposed or closed never to accept the pound of beats and feet of days past. Thanks for all the posts you do, they certainly take you back to a simpler but exciting time, keep em' coming sir.....☺
Thanks mate 👊 Yeah it's lovely that the place at least looks the same outside and can still serve as a kind of pilgrimage destination. Precious memories always hurt a little when they're of times long gone...but they are experiences in the bank.. and form part of who we are today...so they're worthy of honouring 🙏
A great night was had at Sterns, I'm caught on video outside in the cafe area in "Mensa Lord of the Rave (Sterns) - full documentary" wearing a Chippie t-shirt. We used to sort Mensa out so no need membership required lol. God bless all the people who went raving and made that time so special......love to you all.
Dude that was a perfect tribute to the memory of sterns , the music you picked had me getting goosebumps every tune , showing sterns as it is now to what is was back then is like being in a different dimension, you stirred some very sad emotions in me seeing the underground now as a store a room and no Dj box either 😢 but mixed with such happy memories too and the tunes you played are legendary and timeless, thank you for doing this episode on sterns , what a well put together walk down memory lane, perfect in every way , was nice to see that they had a plaque for mensa on the doors from the underground , that was lovely to see, funny how things change , sterns will always be in my heart too, it was our little piece of heaven , RIP mensa your gone but never forgotten ❤️ 💙 ♥️
This is great stuff Jake - normally I get notifications, so am a little late. I do not recall going to Sterns, but I did hear about it. Lovely opening tune, I will enjoy this. Great format mate!
Another sublime video! Appreciate the love you have for the music and the time you take to share tunes, labels and your personal memories. Very impressive ❤
Sterns was definitely my favourite ever club in the UK. Only Tresor in Berlin beats it for me. That epic night in Sept 92 with Lenny D set me on my path of harder styles and promoting in London and Germany until 2017. Rave to the Grave 🤟
This is a great selection of tunes. I went regularly from 1991 onwards and you've absolutely nailed the music. My brother used to do illustrations for the Interdance newsletter and some of the flyers (I think he did the one on the wall in the background). He did the 12 days of Christmas flyer. What a club, walking down those stairs and into the underground for the first time changed music forever for me.
Such a good video, even though I never went it sounds amazing and brings back so many memories of my own little raving Mecca called Tiffany's in Great Yarmouth, the dance paradise nights there were fantastic and though we will never get those times back, people like yourselves will make sure the scene never truly dies, fantastic mate, respect 🤘🏻
Well done Jake, loved this one.Another ex-raver who never made it down there but heard at the time is was a mental place.Watched the Mensa youtube film last year(wicked and the drum club tune at end is a superb emotional one) went down and visited the site last summer. The table garden was packed so still a popular place !
Was never a big fan of techno but when Lenny Dee played the Underground it was something else, he tore the arse out of it, had to be seen/heard to be believed.
Devotion. Goldiggers in Chippenham was my happy place. Nice selection of tunes. ( discogs want list just got a bit longer😁) the tune that most takes me back there is Our tribe, I believe in you. Looking forward to the full mix.
Amazing Jake, you captured it perfectly, I started going mid 91 all the way through to the last night in August 93. I also used to do the journey down the A24😂. This video brought back so many memories, still got all the flyers the monthly news letters and my membership cards. I visited early this year, it took me a while to get my bearings, was chatting to a couple on the next table to us turns out he was a bouncer back in the day. Loved that place, so many good nights. Got the mix saved in favourites now. Anyway thanks for this video.
Total pleasure to have been able to make this video and share it mate. I feel so much for the place that I wasn't sure I could ever hope to do it justice. Yes.. so many good nights. Ironic that the A24 almost wiped me out on the way THERE.. and 31 years later 😄
You've certainly done it justice, sent the link to a friend, he said he had goose bulbs watching it. Did you go to the poole arts center In-Ter-Dance raves? They were amazing, got some great memories from there. I have this memory of there being a bouncy castle there? Need someone to confirm it😂
@@TrevorPuttick Yeah I went to at least two of those. Poole Arts Centre ... and Hastings Pier ... I think. I don't remember a bouncy castle though 😆 Not that my memory is a gold standard metric to be fair.
@@TrevorPuttick There's 4 things there mate...so top left is Sterns membership cards framed.... top middle is the flyer for the last Mensa era Sterns.... top right is a Sterns flyer with the newspaper clips from the raid... under them is a framed picture of the mansion house that my misses bought me for my birthday. She got it from some art site she found online.
I saw that Mensa documentary back when it first came out, the first thing I noticed is that Carl Cox has been EVERYWHERE. Second was how wild, and different, most peoples relation to electronic music is compared to mine. I'm sure there were raves about for people cooler than I was but all of my stories involve laying on the carpet in a dark room with my brother listening to a bunch of wild tracks nobody else in Albuquerque, NM would dare attempt listening to. Of course I'm a few years younger so it wohldn't have been this banging rave stuff in 98/99.
Similar venue down here in Wales Called Clyro Court ( baskerville Hall ) amazing times , Thankful to be a youngster during those times and to have been fully engaged in the rave scene.
Hello the closest i have found to sterns is a centreforce night its all our age and the vibes the people the music its so nice to feel a little bit of sterns in a organisation like centreforce 88.3 radio big up the force
keep goin mate! another abs smashing video! and even tho i was both too young to attend and lived on the other side of the pond, i know of the special place this club holds in the collective memory of ravers worldwide!
Absolutely loved Sterns, and had many mental, lost it nights there. Always in the underground, or in the tea room talking lost it to random strangers. Best club, best people, best DJs and best of times. The night Prodigy played was off the hook.
Lived in Worthing all my life and used to goto sterns before acid house came along. I can remember going to the very first rave called Purple Haze which was put on buy some friends of mine. Then along came Mensa and completely changed it. All though I went to loads of parties up there, being a local. We used to use it more of a back up and travel all around the country to different raves Sterns was rammed every single week. I still miss those days now as it was truly life changing although that could be those little white birds.
Most definitely. Two of my friends used to DJ on the top floor. Another friend used to MC and also record loads of the DJ sets and sells them in Rounder records.
Still have the Holsterns, Pure Genius & Never Mind the bollocks flyers on my wall :D - cant find the Prodigy PA charlie says flyer where I spent my 21st birthday @ I Doved the 90's so much great vid.
Was there every Saturday night between the Easter All-nighter ‘92, and pretty much when it closed. No place like it ❤, and feel privileged to have lived it. Cheers for the video 👍… Top tunes ❤. Underground Confusion still gives me goosebumps over 30 years on 😂🥰
@@rave-vinyl-reminiscence I know there are 100s of tunes you could have included here, but would have put money on you including The Horn Track (Egyptian Empire)… if ever a tune chewed you up and spat you out in the Underground…. Jesus 😂😎, and Pennywise (Neuromancer)… which still makes me nearly weep whenever I hear it 😂. Great selection, though, mate 👍
@JasonBradshaw-o6r yeah mate both of those are killer. I already featured the horn track in the 'Tunes To Start A Set With' episode... Neuromancer is quality too ❤
Well done Jake! that really took me down memory lane - im sure i met you at Sterns a couple of times . im 48 now . I was surprised you whipped out "get the message" and "bach to basics" - i thought these were random obscure tunes i had bought when record shopping in Brighton and Soho in the early 90s!! i will email you as im sure we may have a few tunes each that we have been looking for and we might have between us!! im from crawley - used to drive down the A24 when i was 18 to this unforgettable place. Maybe your intereseted in finding a small venue to put on a night or 2 ..? house and hardcore .. i have an amazing RCF pa system , lights, music and public liability license.. im just getting back into the mobile djing game .
Had may a 3rd degree gurn here, and when it became the mansion house, another was empire club in Bognor, gators in Bognor that was run by Eddie and Lorraine, the manor in ringwood, absolute memories ❤️❤️
We used to organise a coach and come every week. I still have my Stearns membership card and would never part with it, membership no. A153. An amazing place with all the different areas, I seem to remember the toilets had some weird cut off doors to try to stop drug taking(obviously didn't work 😁). Thanks
Get The Message such a quality rush bit of tunage. The ready-to-move followed by the simple kick drum is such a great part. I still haven't figured out how to consistently mix that bit as it goes off the grid
Great innit 😎 You have to set it off after just 4 bars of the drums after the vocal. The "Ready to move" vocal is halfway through a full loop of 8 count, if you know what I mean.
Good memories, stopped going in 91 when it got serious commercial with the queues. Gotta say the doors were always good if you had tickets though and let you jump in.
What a great watch and listen. Definitely some tunes in there I remember. Such a shame when it became Mansion House it never really took off. Not sure why , as a venue it was second to none.
@rave-vinyl-reminiscence it eventually reopened as Mansion House and was meant to have a Dance vibe to it. Had a few named DJs come play like Sister Bliss and OO Fleming but I think because of where it was and having to drive all the way down the road to come back on yourself taxis etc didn't want to do pick ups so the foot fall wasn't there. Shame...
You experienced the dream, i did go to raves early noughties because of my age but early 90s looks awesome. Its reminds me the sterns venue of a vibalite rave i went in brighouse 02

Mate I think you found the words perfectly 👊❤️
Cheers...and I'm so glad it all connects with you. Like I said at the end, all of these positive emotions and memories are here within is from this time...and we can access them, and bring them alive when we reminiscence together.
It's a beautiful thing 🙏
Orange were amazing raves toasterboy!
Jake, another video you've knocked out of the park. Never personally went to Sterns (proper gutted about it too), but the vibrations across the land which that place spun were legendary. RIP Mensa - gone but not forgotten.
Cheers Justin 👊❤️
Fantastic video, I lived 5 mins away from the place and it was just the best! it’s only years later that you truly realise.
Yes indeed 😊❤️
Awesome selection of tunes !!! For me there was 3 legendary clubs/raves of that era Sterns Eclipse and Astoria all of them had insane queues, the buzz of making it through the front doors never got old.❤🕊
Yeah good choice.
Astoria rocked
Classic club, classic tunes, classic video !! THEIR FLYERS WERE SO FRESH !!!!
Yeah they were cool
The night at Sterns with Carl Cox & Colin Dale. It was early 92 and it was my first time at sterns with the Easter extravaganza flyer was just incredible to witness although I was aware it was starting to become more mainstream by then. Unfortunately travelling from Scotland we only got to go once. It’s something I’ll never forget going downstairs into that sweatbox was a major eye opener. The atmosphere was something special.🕊️🙌🕊️.
Yes mate !!!
I have that set on an original Interdance tape too 😎
The ones we used to buy at the door.
Went twice in 93 that sound system was unbelievable, great nights great memories
Excellent mate thank you 👊❤️
@@richiemac6101 yep remember asking the bouncers if we could run over the road to get some fags and let us back in 😂😂👍 The Asian guy that ran that petrol station must have made a fortune on rave nights and no one was fucking with him with that massive Alsatian dog he had, not that anyone could coz we were all off our fucking tits 🤪🤪🤪👍👍 Great great memories ✌️
Awesome video. An era I miss greatly.
Yeah many a good time was had 👊
Colin Dale & Carl Cox Interdance, Sterns 28 04 1992
One of the most legendary recordings you will ever hear. 🙌
Also has Moby on it?....i remember buying the mixtape in the carpark the following week. I still have the cassette, absolute banger! 🔥
Yes mate 👊!!!!
@@rave-vinyl-reminiscence cracking homage to Sterns too btw, i forgot to add. 🙌
@@PacManShift6c cheers mate 👍
@coffeebreak8484 yes and Pigbag!!!!! 🙌
Yeah all special places in their own right.
Wherever it was we were doing it, we were doing it together back then 🙏❤️
Loved that place.. Best nights of my life.
👊❤️
Much needed if!! If only we could go back!
Indeed... if only ❤️
Nice one for the sterns tour mate, much appreciated
👊
thank you thank you thank you, had many good times up there (and Empire in Bognor) not to shabby on the mixing either sir! looking forward to listening to the set.
👊❤️
What a fantastic tribute to a truly memorable club and time of our lives. You've also captured the music perfectly from the sterns era with the selection of tunes representing the best of hardcore before the jungle l/hardcore split. Brilliant and respect mate 👏
Cheers for that 👊
Yeah special time for sure. The music was at its peak during the Sterns era.
Ha 😆 Undercover Ravers
I went to hundreds of places throughout the 90s. Shelley's in Stoke Eclipse in Coventry Quest in Wolverhampton the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes and loads more but I never went to Sterns. I wish I had a time machine so I could go to Sterns. Love your passion bro. You know the score HARDCORE
Thanks man 👊
If you ever find that time machine, look me up before you go
Aaahhhh mate, that is a superbly put together video, loving the tune selection too. Your choice of vocabulary is always spot on but this goes up a notch! One of my memories is getting a fist pump on the underground stairs from MC Conrad ❤️. Wonderful STERNS tribute 👌
Thanks very much mate 👊❤️
Love this so much. Well done mate. I was a member of the Sterns family and always will be.
Terrorize “It’s Just A Feeling” that still gives me goosebumps to this day. That tune, a time and a place ! Unreal x
😁 Glad you enjoyed it mate...and yes we are one big eternal family 🙏
You're not the 'Wax Doctor' Paul Saunders by any chance are? 🤔

Quality selection of tracks. Great memories.

So many memories....thank you Jake - The Hypnotist! 'The shadows of happy ravers', you have a great turn of phrase.
Cheers mate 🙏❤️
Love the channel. Cracking video and banging vinyl, obvious to see the love you put in to making this one. Unfortunately I never made it to Sterns but I am so grateful to have been a 92 raver. My local venue was flattened for housing, got to DJ there a couple of times as well
Cheers for tuning in 🙏
Ah shame about your venue...
... literally only exists in your mind and heart now.
Great that you played there though 👊

Jake I love your passion for the oldskool and hardcore. You take us to nostalgia nirvanna. Read a random comment on YT like 15 years ago now that I sometimes use to describe it. "Once you have had a chemical rendezvous with music the door is always open and never fully shuts." Pretty much sums it up for all us old ravers.
Mate I love that...and it's so true.
A million words couldn't fully translate the experiential polishing that such a rendezvous has permanently laced these tunes with for us 😊❤️
Crazy times at Sterns, what a time that was
Yeah what a time indeed 👊❤️
such a real memoir serious tunage, some of which I don't think I have heard again since those days. one of the best Sterns tributes I've seen. Subbed and cant wait to watch this again and again. I'll never get that feeling of standing on the precipice of those stairs for what lay ahead nor the exit on a frosty morn.
Hi mate 👊
I'm glad the video resonated with you and kicked up some positive memories.
I love your descriptions and I can sense how much the place meant you you too.
Isn't it beautiful how much love and positive emotion is attached to our experiences there? 🙏
Thanks for being here and for sharing ❤️
Sadly missed, we used to get coaches over there from Weymouth, off dial. Feel privileged to have been involved in the scene when it was fresh, hard and new... RIP to the lost soldiers x
Yeah same as that 👊❤️
What an amazing tribute to Sterns & Mensa you bought back so many memories vividly mine are hazy at times so is nice to hear & see them clearly again, the roundabout is another vivid memory that’s never left me. Very emotional beauty this one nice one Jake ❤️
Thanks Mate ❤️
Had some great imes there with you and our little rave team 👊😎
Love this mate❤…great addition to the hard work you are doing on the channe!! Brisey… big love mate x
Cheers for all those crazy car journeys and happy times Brisey 👊❤️
Oh man I missed out on so much, but thank you for bringing it to me and several others through your memories and anecdotes!
Ah mate it's a pleasure to share with you 👊
See you at the next one
Thanks for sharing so much Jake brilliant to hear you speak so passionately about a place which is very special to you and the tunes are belters
Absolute pleasure to make and to share 🙏👊
Thank you for tuning in and appreciating ❤️
Awesome vlog Jake..i think you have nailed your passion for Sterns with this mix. Great memories & music.Look forward to when the full mix drops. Much Respect to ya bud 👊🏻
Cheers mate 👊
A heart warming tribute and great tune selection mate. Its so good to see Sterns getting the recognition it truly deserves as the greatest rave venue. Some really good detail about the place and the experience in here. Who knows, we could have been on that dancefloor together? Nice one..❤
Thank you mate 👊❤️
...and yes, that's very likely
Wicked insight into your formative years, never ventured to Sterns but it was always mentioned in high regard by everyone who went there and you've honoured it well in music and visuals. I think we all had our 'Home Venue' that we hold dear that has a special place in our memories and heart, but like Sterns (and I would imagine most places) they are just that, memories as they have either been repurposed or closed never to accept the pound of beats and feet of days past. Thanks for all the posts you do, they certainly take you back to a simpler but exciting time, keep em' coming sir.....☺
Thanks mate 👊
Yeah it's lovely that the place at least looks the same outside and can still serve as a kind of pilgrimage destination.
Precious memories always hurt a little when they're of times long gone...but they are experiences in the bank.. and form part of who we are today...so they're worthy of honouring 🙏
Great selection Jake! Few of my favourite tracks in there
👊
A great night was had at Sterns, I'm caught on video outside in the cafe area in "Mensa Lord of the Rave (Sterns) - full documentary" wearing a Chippie t-shirt. We used to sort Mensa out so no need membership required lol. God bless all the people who went raving and made that time so special......love to you all.
Ha ha good story 👊
Yeah great nights they were.
Thanks mate ❤️❤️
What a brilliant video-it truly does justice to the club you love, will listen to the mix next
Thank you 😊👊
Dude that was a perfect tribute to the memory of sterns , the music you picked had me getting goosebumps every tune , showing sterns as it is now to what is was back then is like being in a different dimension, you stirred some very sad emotions in me seeing the underground now as a store a room and no Dj box either 😢 but mixed with such happy memories too and the tunes you played are legendary and timeless, thank you for doing this episode on sterns , what a well put together walk down memory lane, perfect in every way , was nice to see that they had a plaque for mensa on the doors from the underground , that was lovely to see, funny how things change , sterns will always be in my heart too, it was our little piece of heaven , RIP mensa your gone but never forgotten ❤️ 💙 ♥️
What lovely words mate ❤️
Thanks for being a part of those memories for me and for being around now 👊
This is great stuff Jake - normally I get notifications, so am a little late. I do not recall going to Sterns, but I did hear about it. Lovely opening tune, I will enjoy this. Great format mate!
Hope you enjoy the full mix too...👊
Another sublime video!
Appreciate the love you have for the music and the time you take to share tunes, labels and your personal memories. Very impressive ❤
Thank you ❤️
Sterns was definitely my favourite ever club in the UK. Only Tresor in Berlin beats it for me. That epic night in Sept 92 with Lenny D set me on my path of harder styles and promoting in London and Germany until 2017. Rave to the Grave 🤟
😊❤️
This is a great selection of tunes. I went regularly from 1991 onwards and you've absolutely nailed the music. My brother used to do illustrations for the Interdance newsletter and some of the flyers (I think he did the one on the wall in the background). He did the 12 days of Christmas flyer. What a club, walking down those stairs and into the underground for the first time changed music forever for me.
Ah that's cool mate 😎
Yeah that first walk down the stairs was epic hey
Another amazing video…
Cheers 👊❤️
Such a good video, even though I never went it sounds amazing and brings back so many memories of my own little raving Mecca called Tiffany's in Great Yarmouth, the dance paradise nights there were fantastic and though we will never get those times back, people like yourselves will make sure the scene never truly dies, fantastic mate, respect 🤘🏻
Thanks man...so glad it triggers some good memories 😊❤️
Respect straight back 👊
Great video and awesome track selection, so many good memories 😊
😊👊
Well done Jake, loved this one.Another ex-raver who never made it down there but heard at the time is was a mental place.Watched the Mensa youtube film last year(wicked and the drum club tune at end is a superb emotional one) went down and visited the site last summer. The table garden was packed so still a popular place !
Ah nice 😊
Yeah it's worth a visit either way...lovely place
Caned Sterns ‘91 to ‘92 legendary.
Absolutely wicked vid, so many memories, so many good times and now so many goose bumps watching this!💯❤🫠🔥🔥🔥🤪
👊❤️
Lovely little video you've done there! nearly makes me cry!
Cheers Mark 👊
There were a lot of emotions behind it 🙏❤️
Was never a big fan of techno but when Lenny Dee played the Underground it was something else, he tore the arse out of it, had to be seen/heard to be believed.
Yeah agree with that.
I want a techno fan, but some of his sets were banging.
Devotion. Goldiggers in Chippenham was my happy place. Nice selection of tunes. ( discogs want list just got a bit longer😁)
the tune that most takes me back there is Our tribe, I believe in you.
Looking forward to the full mix.
Nice one mate 👊
Yeah everyone will have their own special memories.
Very precious
Need someone to confirm it😂
@@TrevorPuttick
Yeah I went to at least two of those.
Poole Arts Centre ... and Hastings Pier ... I think.
I don't remember a bouncy castle though 😆
Not that my memory is a gold standard metric to be fair.
Hi Jake, quick question that picture behind your right shoulder is that a flyer? If so what's the date? I've got loads but not that one. I want it😂
@@TrevorPuttick
There's 4 things there mate...so top left is Sterns membership cards framed....
top middle is the flyer for the last Mensa era Sterns....
top right is a Sterns flyer with the newspaper clips from the raid...
under them is a framed picture of the mansion house that my misses bought me for my birthday.
Nice mate 👊
Yeah it's something I'm eternally grateful for ❤️
Hello the closest i have found to sterns is a centreforce night its all our age and the vibes the people the music its so nice to feel a little bit of sterns in a organisation like centreforce 88.3 radio big up the force

keep goin mate! another abs smashing video! and even tho i was both too young to attend and lived on the other side of the pond, i know of the special place this club holds in the collective memory of ravers worldwide!
👊❤️ Cheers

Absolutely loved Sterns, and had many mental, lost it nights there. Always in the underground, or in the tea room talking lost it to random strangers. Best club, best people, best DJs and best of times. The night Prodigy played was off the hook.
Nice to have lots of the old family back here mate.
Respect 👊
Lived in Worthing all my life and used to goto sterns before acid house came along. I can remember going to the very first rave called Purple Haze which was put on buy some friends of mine. Then along came Mensa and completely changed it. All though I went to loads of parties up there, being a local. We used to use it more of a back up and travel all around the country to different raves
Sterns was rammed every single week. I still miss those days now as it was truly life changing although that could be those little white birds.
It was life changing...
perhaps our little winged friends did help a little yes
Most definitely. Two of my friends used to DJ on the top floor. Another friend used to MC and also record loads of the DJ sets and sells them in Rounder records.

Yeah that tune is beautiful hey ❤️
@@rave-vinyl-reminiscence I know there are 100s of tunes you could have included here, but would have put money on you including The Horn Track (Egyptian Empire)… if ever a tune chewed you up and spat you out in the Underground…. Jesus 😂😎, and Pennywise (Neuromancer)… which still makes me nearly weep whenever I hear it 😂.
Great selection, though, mate 👍
@JasonBradshaw-o6r yeah mate both of those are killer.

Well done Jake! that really took me down memory lane - im sure i met you at Sterns a couple of times . im 48 now . We used to organise a coach and come every week. I still have my Stearns membership card and would never part with it, membership no. A153. An amazing place with all the different areas, I seem to remember the toilets had some weird cut off doors to try to stop drug taking(obviously didn't work 😁). Thanks
Yeah the membership cards are real treasures now mate.
Those doors in the toilet 😆
Not the best when you needed that 'come up poo' 🤣
Look closely at the True Faith, Final Cut label, you can see a credit to Mills, Jeff Mills that is...
I temember meeting people there who later helped me score some smoke, on christmas day. Who else would do that. Plur
Get The Message such a quality rush bit of tunage. The ready-to-move followed by the simple kick drum is such a great part. I still haven't figured out how to consistently mix that bit as it goes off the grid
Great innit 😎
You have to set it off after just 4 bars of the drums after the vocal.
Glad you enjoyed it mate 👊
Yeah I'm not sure what happened after Mensa passed...we never really went back there after that either.
Shame...
The Orbit in Morley will never be beaten for me.
Good stuff mate. Treasured memories I'm sure 👊
You experienced the dream, i did go to raves early noughties because of my age but early 90s looks awesome. Its reminds me the sterns venue of a vibalite rave i went in brighouse 02
