I was born in Chicago and my family moved to Birmingham, Alabama. We moved back to Chicago in 84’. I was 10 and what an amazing time to be in Chicago. House music was alive, the Bears were dominating and Michael Jordan had just signed with the Bulls. Then a few years later Hip Hop enters into the golden era. What a time to be alive!

I was only 10 when jack your body hit number 1 in the UK (1987). It was the first single I ever bought for myself and Ive been hooked on house ever since.
I made the pilgrimage to the old warehouse site in Chicago in 2011. It was raining and I stood under a tree on the opposite side of the road, trying to imagine what it was like back in the day.

I am so glad I was in my early teens when this genre of music started. I started going to the Paradise Garage in 84 - 85, and it was absolutely amazing. I was hooked the very first day I went. All these songs were played there, but what I loved to hear most were the Disco classics. I was in heaven listening to those songs through that incredible sound system. It was just an incredible experience.

Underground, plain & simple. Kids today think they know house from listening to some nowadays EDM. Absolutely because they don't know what we know, they haven't been where we've been, felt what we felt; us oldies are the roots. It's my culture & I'm so proud to say I am a HouseHead4Life. Ever since House Nation by The Housemaster Boyz came out I was hooked (at 11 years old). Thank heaven for House 🙏 it's got me through, as it's my one true constant & of course, RIP ✝️ Frankie Knuckles 😢

Growing up in the NYC metro area, I remember going to the clubs at 14\15 years old in the late 70's early 80s. It was life changing, the sound, the vibe, etc. I became a dj because of these experiences. I remember going to club zanzibar in newark and hearing some of the deepest house music on the planet. We've had a lot of good dance music this century, but to me, the 80's and 90's were the golden era of house.

House music may have evolved from Disco music after 1976 -1977. House music evolved out the disco era into a more progressive sound of Black grassroots party clubs
