    Novel catted headers was by far my first choice. I placed an order durning the pandemic and unfortunately because of supply chain issues Novel was backed up with manufacturing. I patiently waited over a year for them to get built, but no joy. MIJ was great, kept me up to date on status and ultimately gave me the option to stay on the waiting list or recieve a full refund, witch I went with. I ended up going with PPE unequal length high flow catted headers. Sent them over to JET-Hot to get their performance coating in classic polish that withstands temps up to 1250 deg. Best of both worlds in my opinion, looks good and substantial power gain with no nasty exhaust fumes from not having cats. Thanks Steven for the awesome video and excellent customer service.

    Well, I definitely would've gone with Novel and waited a few month's, the idea of a year plus was just too much for me to wait. Ended up with PPE Equal Length, ceramic coated. I'll see how they sound a long with my APEXI N1 Exhaust. I'm not necessarily looking for any particular sound, high or low, but something that let's everyone know "that ain't stock" and makes more power. The APEXI Exhaust is installed and looks amazing. Sounds good too. Not too loud, which is what I wanted. I kept the resonators with the APEXI but dropped all CATS. Sounds like a Vette when you cold start it. Can't wait to hear and see the differences with the PPE EL Headers 🤞🤞🤞🤞.

    So my question would be, do you need a tune to maximize the performance? Adding intake headers and exhaust would automatically result in performance or since we’re adding, could we see a reduction in performance due to the stock tune wasn’t meant for the upgrades. I ask because I have an IS500 and as of now there aren’t any tunes for it.

    PPE with high flow cats (keeps the stink away) and no CEL’s (actualy does not trigger secondary O2’s)
    With RR racing 780 SC kit. And a bunch of other goodies like coilovers, Cusco diff etc.

    • @11SecSTionStockSnail
      @11SecSTionStockSnail 3 месяца назад

      @@andersgammelsrd1815 surprisingly not a whole lot of difference.
      Slightly more rumble at idle. I never had stock exhaust though. Was always with an X-force header back before.
      But my main fear of the dreaded drone at around 2K rpm didn’t happen. Surprisingly you can cruise highway at 70-80-90, and even at 100 at light throttle no drone at all.
      But when you get on it…
      lol above 3k rpm’s you will hear it sing.
      Supercharger also surprisingly quiet. You hear it ever so slightly (additional whistle at idle)
      And blow off valves. Only if you shift above 4-5K rpm’s and even that you have to listen to with windows down (they’re recirculating)
      All in all, super happy.
      Was afraid that.
      Let’s just say wife and kids approve.
      They’re willing to sit in in and drive with me for an hour to the beach, or mountains in it. So it’s quiet enough.
      (And there’s quite picky, wife drives gx460 luxury w/air suspension, so they really know what quiet and plush means)
      You can drive thru the normal neighborhood. And no one will notice. Below 2K it’ll sound like a regular coyote. (Though I hate mustangs)

      @@andersgammelsrd1815I’m saying I got my car with STOCK headers, had a cracked header leak. (Welded it) drove with stock headers for about 10k miles then switched to PPE with cats.
      Both stock headers and now are with same X-force exhaust.
      With stock headers I used to have an annoying drone while highway traveling (drone around 2-2.5K rpm.s)
      With these new PPE headers (same X-force cat back exhaust set up as before)
      No drone now,
      Same as stock sound untill about 3-3.5K rpm’s
      Then a bit louder then stock headers in higher rpm’s
      What surprised me is that when car is warmed up, idling at around 700-900rpm’s I can hear individual cylinder firing sequence much better then before.
      Not louder at idle. (Listening from the back of the car outside) just more distinct. (Almost sounds like a slight cam, but no loamy wobble cause.
      Similar to coyote mustangs at idle (I know I’m gona catch allot of hate saying this lol)

    Informative video! Do headers without a tune cause the car to have less power? Do these headers cause a check engine light?

    • @ModinJapan
      @ModinJapan  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the question! In the case of these headers for Lexus you will produce more horsepower as the flow will increase and the ECU will compensate for the increase in flow and you will produce more power. With a tune you could produce even more power so without tune more horsepower, with a tune you’d unlock the full potential. As for check engine light, almost certainly they will cause a check engine light. Hope that helps

    • @ing8404
      @ing8404 Год назад +4

      You make more power, but knock threshold decreases and your car runs extremely rich. The car keeps dumping fuel in to try warm the catalytic converters that are no longer there. A proper tune will stop this.

    • @ing8404
      @ing8404 Год назад +2

      I should note too that with increased airflow, you'll lose some exhaust scavenging, so your torque band comes on slightly later.

      I couldn't say for certain, but if you used California which is the strictest state as a reference point absolutely not. Smog stations have the right to refuse testing if it doesn't pass a visual inspection which is up to their discretion. I've had a CARB Legal Intake on a car be the only thing on my car and be denied by 2 stations, only to have my car tested at the third and pass with no issue.

    Should I add cats to mid pipes after headers? Ty!

    • @ModinJapan
      @ModinJapan  Год назад +1

      Great question. Be sure to consult your local laws pertaining to emissions, but the primary reason to add cats on the mid pipe where the OEM secondary cats are if you have replaced it with an aftermarket mid pipe is to reduce the smell and emissions. After a header is installed the smell of gas will become stronger and some drivers find it unpleasant. You will see a decrease in potential horsepower gain as that section will be choked of air.
      PPE has a weld in kit for that situation you can find it here:
      www.modinjapan.com/lexus/is-f/is-f-2008-2014/engine-power-3314/ppe-engineering-weld-in-high-flow-cats-kit-for-lexus-is-gs-rc-ppe-935002.html

    Equal length headers make no sense and loses power on a cross plane v8. You have 2 pulses going to the collector at the same time, leading to problems with scavenging and overloading the collector. Realistically you want something slightly unequal length to allow the pulse time to get scavenged by the previous one.
