I hope you all enjoy this one - a great sophisticated speaker that's very attractive. Apologies for my pronunciation of Comete!
The tweeters are amazing as they have pretty good three-dimensional reproduction, I can see a drummer's stick move from the centre out-word on the cymbals. They also sound better with amplifiers costing twice their price.
I have the Comètes in this finish, which I like. I’ve run them both with the DECware SE84UFO (glorious!) and the Atoll 100SE, also very good but not *quite* as three dimensional in presentation - the Zen amp gives a better centre image. In my small room I disagree a bit about the bass. Yes, a sub such as the REL or a small Atohm would help, but I think the value for money is very good and the Comète is very satisfying on its own. I bought the bespoke stands which probably helps with the bass, though I have yet to mass load them. Bass in small rooms is very problematic unless the room is properly treated with absorbers, and I’m not talking about corner traps and other cheap “solutions”.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, it sounds like a great set up. I agree bass can be problematic in a small room, but I’ve got a lot of GIK treatment and my observations are in direct comparison to other bookshelf speakers I’ve had in the room. Don’t get me wrong, they may perform differently in a different room and it sounds like yours is perfect for them. Enjoy the music👍
@@SmallRoomAudio yes if you compare this to elac dbr the bass is less but the elac is somwhat no parable with atol, naim, maranz, bass neutrall amplifier is here must. I have tried my naim with css ,....pure crazynest of base amount,
I think the wide dispersion of horn tweeter makes it hard to get pin point imagine.
Anyways good review. Triangle not popular in Australia but this model seems to carry the flag.
IMHO, all types of this sized speakers would benefit greatly from an addition of a subwoofer. Almost mandatory because the psychical limitations of the mid/bass driver. Would almost be a sin NOT to add a Subwoofer. Even a moderately priced sub would do wonders….
I think that a speaker with a less low frequences level can be a plus, because you can play with a subwoofer, wich they are able to be configured at your taste and get the sound you really want. But a speaker with bigger amount of bass, uhmmm, they not give you a chance to change that, they is what it is imo.
These were very easy integrate with a REL 👍

I appreciate your reviews! I own these speakers and I do like them a lot. I drive them with a Musical Fidelity m2si, which I think is a fairly good match, though sometimes I’d hope for a little more top end sparkle. If I toe them in, that helps, but I feel I start loosing depth. Otherwise, I find them very smooth and really enjoyable to listen to, and they do have a large sound stage. Perhaps I will try another amp, a purifi, or a more forward sounding DAC…

Iw got the Triangle Signature Thetas, a tad more expensive siblings to the Cometes, and I guess theyr similair in sound presentation.
I totaly luuuuuv them, but without subs added, naah. 😬

Heard these at my local shop in a fairly large space so less node issues, yes bass was a little lacking.
'Opposite to Klipsch'. Now you have my attention. Personally, I couldn't care less if they screamed out for a subwoofer, in fact that can be a plus.

Just put a rel on them. It will do more than just fix the bass

bonjour j'ai pour ma part les triangle comete ez avec un marantz pm6007 et j'ai aussi des focal aria 906 et je préfère le son des triangle bien plus réaliste je trouve
I really cringe when users sit the speaker on a hard surface and then spin it around. Your are literally scratching the veneer on the underside of the speaker. I can only hope people begin taking better care of their speakers because they certainly aren’t cheap

You're exaggerating the lack of bass with these speakers, surely? I have the Titus EZ, supposedly 2 models down from this and a much smaller speaker but with the same horn surround tweeter and woofer design, and bass is definitely there, not very extended or deep, but integrated well with the other frequencies and with a satisfying punch in my smallish room. I came from Elac debut b5 (the original version), which are famous for having quite a lot of bass for a small speaker, but they could sound a bit boomy without quite a lot of power behind them.
Maybe, like others have mentioned in this comment section, I'm just not really a bass head. But bottom line is I've never thought lack of bottom of end is stopping me from enjoying these otherwise superb little speakers!
I have Triangle Esprit Comete Ez and bass is absolutely enough. No need sub.
You mentioned that the Tannoy Autograph Mini has amazing sound stage and imaging and you are correct. However when Tannoy launched the XT Revolution speakers, Dr Paul Mills stated that the omnimagnet design and Torus Ogive wave guide gave profound improvements in stereo imaging over the previous tulip wave guide. I bought a pair of Tannoy XT8F's a few years ago and I am astonished at the stereo image and sound stage. Would be interesting for you to review the XT8F's and give your opinion of them.
Some of us prefer little to no bass 😀, i can't stand muddy boomy bass, sounds like these speakers are my cup of tea.

have a naim amp and want to get a bookshelf in the 2 k range my candidates are these,martin logan 35xti,sonus faber sonetto 1 g2,elac solano bs 283 and fyne audio f500 my music is 70 porcent jazz 20 rock and 10 in betwin electro and hip hop
totaly depends on amplification too, unfortunately pairing is nothing new in hifi for sure if you pair this with musical fidelity m2si you have literaly baseless system. Next week I will probebably hook those to my naim xs2 well broken ones already and I beleive I will not miss the base.
i have the standard version of these ,its 10 years old , its bi wired made in france too , i pair it with a rel r328 , i have clear sound with my old € 200 sony 5.1 , my source is my PC with a synergetic reasearch power cable , i am looking for an intergrated amp with build in dac that will have a decent imaging. i dont need to go overboard cuz my room is not perfect , i dont wanna worsen my tinnitus and i very appreciate your responses
I use Triangle Plaisir Zetas with a Keces E40 integrated and a D70s dac with pretty good results. Yes, it is a budget speaker but beats many even up to $800, even more. In comparison to better speakers such as MA Silver 100s and my other Focal 807Ws it is less dynamic sounding and thinner, doesn't have the bass and is more laid back than those speakers as well, but there are times I don't want the harder dynamic sound such as at night, or when I'm listening while working.
The Silvers were all in your face, too much in fact. The Focals with the W driver are a great sounding speaker even with the standard AlMg tweeter, very musical, detailed and resolving as well as easy to drive in a much larger package. The Zetas do similarly what the Focals do at a notch or so lower while being less dynamic and more laid back, with a bit different presentation as well, a little glare with sibilant passages too but not too bad (note Silver 100 were really good with sibilance which surprised me but ended up sounding shouty some of the time, a trade-off?).
Triangle do not make them anymore (Zetas), perhaps replaced by the Borea series. I had the Borea 2 in my system and though it sounded a bit wider/taller sounding, the tonality was off, as well as resolution, detail and depth, I much preferred the Zetas. The Zetas work well in near to midfield. For a larger room, I would go with larger speakers, but for small to mid sized rooms, small speakers do fine especially when using a small sub for bass support for most music and soundtracks at moderate volume.
I am likely going to downsize, likely keeping the small system and sell off everything else, larger amps and speakers. If I can find a better small speaker I would consider it, but perhaps not at those prices anymore. Chosen to live with really good SQ without chasing after absolute performance in a small package that can fit in a banana box. What's not to like?
Really? I think they image great. Either way I'm obsessed with these speakers. I also like these more than the others you mentioned. Hands down. They have enough bass for their size too. I also disagree that they don't get you moving at all. I respect your opinion man, but I just disagree alot. These are some of the best all around speakers I've heard

I always heard about the good bass on the Borea 3 speaker but I could never get satisfactory bass from the ones I bought and passed on. Isn't calling a speaker a dog kind of insulting to your weird dog?

For me, l tend to roll the dice and buy on appearance, THEN I suit my taste to the SPEAKER…..yeah l know, strange huh?
Surprisingly, l ended satisfied with my purchases.
Nothing wrong with that approach at all - in fact I’d probably do the same if I was getting a system for the living room, looks are very important 👍
Aesthetic is important to me. Very important. I indulge all the senses when I listen. I see the gear in front of me! I touch it to turn it on or spin the volume, so material and quality of casework is important. This is a luxury indulgence type of hobby. If it looked like garbage it would detract (for me). Rock on everyone!
How small is your room ?
2.5 x 6 metres (it’s a converted garage with looooots of acoustic treatment!)

@@SmallRoomAudio Well, it's good to hear about the Kefs, they're quite cheap around here (900 pounds). MA Gold 100s 5G are probably the most bass heavy bookshelves on the planet and they cost a little more. I also have a smallish 16 sqm room and I also like bass :)
These speakers look great. But, it only performs at its best with a sub. I like bookshelves who can go down within 30Hz
Not many are going to hit in the 30 Hz range, usually with other trade offs and typically at higher prices. Better off with a floorstander or sub added.

They have bass but your room does not allow it.
I don’t think it’s the room limiting anything as plenty of speakers are able to make bass in there. Don’t get me wrong, I love these speakers, but I just find their bass presentation to be a little weaker than desired - if your experience is different, then that’s cool too 👍

Bass is overrated. All depends on what music you listen to and the presentation you prefer.
