Technique works. What you cant see is that a 10mm box wrench you first losen the lower most bolt by putting box wrench end on bolt head and the shaft of the wrench is pointing horizontal and to the passenger side of the vehicle. There is space BEHIND the crank pulley to approach the bottom bolt from the passenger side. The wrench will be flush up against the engine block behind the Crank PUlley. Once I losened it with the box wrench two fingers one from each hand worked the bolt all the way out. REMEMBER once you've got the bottom bolt mostly lose, be sure to crack the seal of the water pump from the engine block by shimmying and prying it off the block, and then you'll be able to get the bolt out. The bolt cannot be removed by itself, it comes out with the water pump on the angle. Installing new pump is the exact reverse, you put the bolt in the new pump housing and seat the housing with the bolt already inserted through the bottom hole in the housing in order to get it back in. Again I REPEAT, the bottom bolt cannot be removed by itself, it must come out and be put back in while with the housing. This technique saves a lot of time removing the stretch belt (which must be replaced once you remove it) and the crank pulley (usually requires a gear puller) so can shave off about 1 hr or more off your time. Nice work Zeiten.
Im looking on buying a 04 745Li with 102K on it it needs a thermostat he said, would it be smarter just to replace the water pump at the same time just incase its the water pump that crapped out? Im not really a car guy so not sure what route to go, I dont wanna get burned or half to re take it apart again lol
The best advice i can give you is to NOT buy it in a first place, i can guarantee you’ll spend more on repairs (if you don’t do it yourself, check our other videos for 7 series) than the car worth. But if you still will decide to get it definitely replace water pump and thermostat together
My daily is a 07 S550 and compared to this BMW and what ive recently re searched this 04 is going to be a fucking nightmare, So i ended up buying that car for $800 it was originally $2500 i talked him way down, the serp belt was off water pump is trash but after getting it on the trailer the Transmission Safety Fail came on, i know im pretty fucked but is it possible the transmission fail only came on becuase the water pump and belt shit out?
Yes, when the belt is off that means alternator is not functioning at all and it is simply not enough power for transmission and multiple other components, but of course inspection is necessary, first step is to get proper voltage supply
Just a heads up. In some cases the crank pulley notch will not align fully with the bottom bolt on water pump.. If this is your case like on my e65 750li, The crank pulley is really easy to take off from the crank snout. Just remove the 8 t40 bolts and it practically will fall off. cheers
That notch allows the bolt to be removed more easily, not entirely sure if its absolutely necessary, but when you remove the pump and that bolt together, almost definetely helps create more room. found it helpful to locate the bolt as well since its a completely blind extraction.
Thx for the video.I am lucky that I found you.what do you think about Performance termostat 90 C for the N62b48 engine? It is much more better for the engine? Regards Mark
Thank you, my opinion is the engine is designed to operate on higher temperature around 105, and it can be harmful for the engine in a long run to use 90 t-stat just because oil won’t reach it’s operating temperature
Yes but many people saying that 105 C operating temperature for this engine is to high and harmful for many parts on the engine it selv ,like valve sealants.cooling houses etc . The engine produce a lot of heat. So your opinion is to stay with the oem termostat anyway? Thx for the response.
Zeiten LLC yes you’re right .I just read on the bmw forum about the N 62 v8 engine .I want the best for my engine therefor I asked about the termostat .
Try running your VIN number sometime insurance companies have that option on their apps. You can see the history of the car you might be able to see if it had work done such as water pump find out if and when it was changed. Geico has that option it's free you can run as many VIN numbers as you want

good write up, thats exactly what i do in this video
you don't have to mess with the stretch bolt on the harmonic balancer the pulley comes off separate from the actual harmonic balancer stretch bolt
hello I have a 750 li 06. I’m having trouble locating the drain plug for the radiator.

@@Zeiten thanks Z i appreciate the feedback when I get it back and have any questions cool if I reply back on here?
What’s the price range to get this fixed
Can you just replace the thermostat without replacing the whole thing?
Do you unhook the battery first? Negative side at least?
No reason for it
Thank you for the quick reply 🤙
Hi. I can just replace the thermostat without removing the rest?
Yes you can

How did that notch help you...I can't get it out
you have to angle water pump when the screw is completely lose

my750li is leaking coolant when parking only .Is that the water pump problems. Thanks
Can be lots of reasons for it, inspection is necessary
Do you drain the coolant first?
Of course

People say lots of crap without any understanding of how the engine works and without consideration of all the facts, stay oem

How many miles do you change it ?
depends on climate you live in, in california usually every 80-100k miles

Thank you, that's years of practice
