Thanks for this review. We need more consideration of value for money in lenses. I bought this lens and have found that it’s a great value. I purchased it both for value and because with its light weight and compact size, it’s a great match for my Sony a7C. I really think this is the camera this lens was made for. Great review!
Z version was on wider side, at least a couple of degree more of my 55° fav 40mm. That's another plus! because all 40ies tend to be slightly longer an some have also bad breathing.
Shading Compensation on Sony cameras is applied to the raw files unlike Nikon and Canon AFAIK. If you're seeing lesser vignetting on Sonys this might be the reason.

That's fair.

It's a pretty sweet lens.
what do you think of country music and sci fi?
In a completely related discussion...;)
There need to be more 40s for full frame e mount
Agreed. I'd actually like to see someone do a fast one - F1.4 or even F1.2.
I still carry Sigma 40mm F1.4 for astrophotography. It’s humongous. 😂
@@DuskToDawn-D2D absolute perfection came at the cost of a kilo or so.
@@DustinAbbottTWI the Voigtlander... needs AF motors 😂
@@joseguliasi actually have precisely that. Af motor adaptor and the 40 1.2
This or the samyang 45 1.8? Two affordable lenses...
The Viltrox has the nicer build and more effective AF, but I am a fan of the rendering of the Samyang.
I hope this 40mm is not like the glass of 20mm having a glass issue like haze in front element. Resulting to a dreamy effect
Hmmm, I've never seen that.

I don't think that's true when using third party software.
