Now that I think of it, back then, the phone was only $200. Either way, 1500 for this phone is WAY to much when the NOTE 10 is only $900-1100. And the NOTE is WAY BETTER.

Exactly! I'm commenting this on my $220 Y9 Prime and it's the best phone I've ever used. Wish more people knew about them. Makes my old LG look bad in comparison.
This is some new tech merged with old models. You think you will get a foldable phone with the price equal to a normal phone? Every iPhone is overpriced and look the same but people still buy them. Another option, go buy a Galaxy Fold for $2000, that isn't even a phone. It's a tablet. Btw are your Chinese phones durable? Have long battery life? Have new design every time or look the same?

@@zaidarsalan2960 A lot of the designs are recycled but that's not necessary a bad thing if the price is right. Battery life and durability are usually excellent on high end Chinese flagships. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the chinese manufacturers make a RAZR clone for a third of the price lol.

My old razor was relatively durable. Only the outside screen broke when I ran it over.
I remember when phones werent so fragile that dropping them 5 inches from the floor didnt break the god damn thing.
I had the blackberry torch, slider phone. I dropped it off the peak of a very, very big barn, accidentally. Can't remember what it hit when it landed, but it was solid, not dirt. All that happened was the battery cover flew off and the battery popped out. Popped it all back together and was perfect. Now, phones are built to break.

I actually kind of like this phone, if you are going to be worse on paper, at least be cool while doing it. With that being said, this is the opposite of everything Apple stands for and the day an iPhone folds like that is the day the sun swallows the earth and we all cease to exist.

@@videoswithcay how is a folding phone useless? Carrying a 6.5 inch brick in your pocket is very comfortable. I'm tying this off a iphone fyi. I'm using the 6s plus. Only reason I held on to it is because it has a headphone jack. Other than that my daily is the LG V40 with a quad sad audio jack. Apple wonders why iphone sales went down. They got rid of the most simplistic audio component... The headphone jack. Dongles are so convenient and useful. Apple cutting corners. Apple and Google dont make any of their phones. They just add on their software. Apple uses samsung and LG displays. Has a third party make their chips. Has sony make their cameras and we wonder why they're over priced. Same with Google. I enjoy the original pixel but I wouldnt be paying 800 bucks for a 4
Bob Drob The headphone jack is over, it is dying, it’s day of reckoning has come and nothing you do or think will stop that. Sales for *everybody* went down, not because some companies removed a dumb 60 year old port to increase battery size, but because of global market saturation. More people have smartphones than toilets on earth, and many are perfectly ok with their older device (even ones without a headphone jack). Folding does not make it more comfortable in the pocket, because it is still wide, but now you just have to reach down twice as far to pull it out, then open it (which takes time), then use it. It is a compromise *and* you pay more.
On the companies making their own hardware thing, no. Nobody is fully vertically integrated, that is basically impossible. But Apple has *by far* the least generic, most exclusive components. Every android phone is *literally* the same chipset with a different shell. Apple designs and engineers 99% of that in-house. The only thing another company makes is the Display *panel* , which judging by the inferior APL brightness of the note 10, isn’t as important as the display controller, which Apple makes. Apple designs all their own things, they just don’t *manufacture* most of them. It is Apple Tech made *under contract* with *3rd Party Equipment.* But Apple’s better engineered components are only found on the iPhone. There is not a *single* significant duplicate component on the iPhone 11 Pro Max as any other phone, period.
Also the Sony camera isn’t the component that makes the camera the best, it’s the Apple-designed and calibrated stabilization, ISP, and semantic rendering algorithm.

My name is Sean and I was about 24 or so when the first RAZR phone was released. I recall being very excited. about it's size and design most of all. Back then Moto was the top of the Go To devices. The morning after i purchased the phone from ATT, I had a meeting that I was running late for. It was pouring outside and I left my brand new phone in a taxi as I tried to juggle my umbrella and computer bag. I was so upset. Sad to say I never got my phone back. I am so excited to see this phone make a come back in its updated form and will get one for sure. Your video was awesome as always! We need to connect and network.

I never own the old razr previously, but there were this thing going back in the day where my friends and I would trade phones for months on end until we feel like using our phone again and I get to use her razr for a couple of months and I love how they are able to modernize it!!!

Well it is kind of protected when it is folded. It's not like you're average smartphone where the screen is always exposed. But yeah it is a lot more touch sensitive it's the same as the Galaxy folding phone.

Just like when other cell phones show their retail price of well over a $1,000, just because the Rzr is a unique new thing that was once a cool old thing, there are tons of people who are going to buy it. Especially people who don't care about money, because you can Finance cell phones these days and just make a payment just like other people who make payments on things they have no business owning. This device will be no different. So all of you who are complaining about the price, just remember there are things you currently "own" (actually the Bank owns) that you should not own because you're just making payments on it. And you will wish you had one when you see one in person. Because I have, and it is awesome.

Motorola is really hitting us with a nostalgia ad. I would buy this bc I had the original Razr when it first came out and it was my favorite phone.
This is the best folding phone design in my opinion.

It's because he is annoyed at how worse the quality the video is compared to his normal ones.
I mean it does make sense it is a press event so you’d think that they’d want it well lit enough so they could get all the beauty shots of the phone they’re trying to sell and we you’re talking about it you want to show your viewers the best that you can what you’re talking about it does seem like a pretty big oversight on Motorola’s part

How does it make more sense than the Huawei? A normal phone size can already fit in my pocket. A tablet can't. Huawei has a ridge to assist with holding, this one has nothing, no tablets have them, and the Galaxy Fold doesn't have anything either

Hey wat is up MKBHD, in my view this is the best utilization of a folding screen and for sure I'm gonna get one.
As always, you did an excellent review of the product and provided some thoughtful insight for those of us considering this to ponder. I had a the original razor phone and loved it. Flip phones were great, they were compact and worked very well. Some phones would have a kink or break in the ribbon cable at some point between the two halves of the phone and then it was pretty much useless, my Sanyo rugged phone was just that example. After that I had to upgrade to a smart phone which did not and still does not work as well as a phone for voice communications. Also to note for those less familiar with flip phones, with an actual keypad I could dial a phone number by memory without ever having to look at the phone because once I found the center button (5) I could do anything at that point. Much safer when making a call and more reliable than voice dialing. Just a point to mention in the evolution of cell phones where we lose something for more technology power/convenience.
Price is gonna kill this phone, and that makes me sad.

I think the price will go down very quickly as info for the next iteration starts to get out. Manufacturers haven't made this form factor for over a decade so it's logical this will be expensive.

Thank you for your first impression about it, I think it’s a nice move from Motorola as a start to get in the smartphones competition, at the end they knew that a lot of people still looking for a folding phone easy to put in pocket, by that they targeted a huge people or buyers of it in addition to that it’s not bad at all, I mean of it’s characteristics, I think it’s a 6 of ram, Android 8 or 9, 128g internal storage and 16 megapixel of the camera
