I have most of your campaigns. I have enjoyed them all. Keep up the great work. I understand why you chose Navy / top gun. From all the interviews I have seen from Air Force pilots from Vietnam, the only air to air training they got was F-4 v F-4 on the way back from missions if they had fuel remaining.
Once again, I love this stuff. The fundamentals really do help to make you a better pilot, and I love you're pushing the game's engine to do this. It reinforces what can be achieved with DCS, which a lot of people ignore or are unaware of. There's a lot of enjoyment in flying the jets properly.
Thanks! It all started by reading about these great tactics and asking myself, hey, can I recreate this engagement in DCS? And after a bit of experimenting all the lessons turned out to be feasible and I ended up with a whole campaign :)
AG went by the wayside based on the issue...which Ault went after...kill to loss ratio. Then right behind the grads success in 1972 came the Tom...in 73...though built to carry AG as you know it was all air defense and superiority....not a pound for air to ground as they say.
This update sounds fantastic. I have 2 questions tho. 1) where to pre purchase? 2) will it be possible to deactivate your “workaround” regarding the slats? This request might be very niche, so let me explain. I primarily fly on multiplayer servers and mostly PVP (solo or with a specific mate) and I want to fly your Top Gun training as a preparation for this. So, this is a self experiment for me to see what I can take away from this for the Wild West out there. Maybe he will do this too, so we will have a common denominator afterwards. But I want to have the same flight characteristics in your campaign and online, hence the question regarding the slats.
I once read a story about 2 Phantoms chasing a MIG over Vietnam. Perfect firing position. Lead's missiles wouldn't come off, and he ordered the wingman to break off and RTB, he wouldn't let him take the shot because he was 'just' a wingman. This is why Topgun was so revolutionary and why it's gonna be a much more fun campaign than a USAF Weapons School one.
That's really a downer that there isn't that much info on the 70's Air Force Weapons School it would have been really interesting to compare and contrast the differences in training. Thanks for another great campaign to look forward to Reflected!
It wouldn't have been too much fun due to the ancient tactics they used. Topgun really changed US aviation. But as I said, I have something up my sleeve for the USAF guys out there too.
Can't wait! I love a little teaser from you in a form of BFM quick missions on Nevada Map against F-5 and F-86, so patiently waiting for a full campaign. Are you using the same trick with invulnerability / infinite weapons in campaign as well? I found it really cool and realistic, because you actually not killing anyone, you are just exercising.
Yes that's exactly how the kill system will work. Additionally, 'killed' players will egress east/west which is not in the free mission, since that's a 1v1. Sometimes it will be hard to know if that's a valid target or a killed one who's egressing, but that's quite a realistic problem.
Hi Reflected! Since the DCS summer sale is on-going, would you recommend picking up the Nevada map to play this campaign? And can you tell us if there are any other pre-requisites apart from the F4E and the Nevada map?
Most definitely! It will be required for this campaign (nothing else required) but many other campaigns are using it too: Zone 5, Speed n Angels, Iron Flag, Red Flag 21, just to name a few. It's secretly my favorite map. Great performance, and those mountains in the desert look beautiful.
Hey, thanks! DLC campaigns can be purchased from the DCS store on the ED website - provided you have all the required modules which is listed in the store. Then the updater downloads and installs it automatically, and it will pop up in your campaigns menu.
I loved flying the F-14 RAG in Speed and Angels, really helped me learn how to push the tomcat in a dogfight, can't wait for this one. God knows we need all the tricks we can get to win dogfights in the F4
reflected my mate, don't you worry, people are just talking. this is going to be an immediate purchase for me, since the f-4 has made it hard to get back to any other module, and i get this feedback from a lot of players, so people are going to be genuinely proficient when your campaign is released, and willing to do something with their hard earned expertise. let's face it, most uf us earn to many modules to get proficient enough to get through a reflected campaign without serious additional exercise, but it seems that this work will be already done at release. i'm looking forward to it very much. (apart from that this is an excelent chance of designing some aggressor mig-21 and f-5 missions, or a genuine campaign in order to revive the modules. not that i want to force you to do anything... :D )
i'm at 7:32 and its just not true. DCS AI is limiting at the moment and you simply can't script how the AI aircraft are going to maneuver. The Bracket might look like an oblong banana which might be how it would go in combat but it isn't how training works. There just is no way to setup training with AI , you can't set the AI to get ahead of you so you can practice BFM from an offensive position. The DLC's gonna be fun i bet
This falls in line with the book "SCREAM of Eagles"; how to fly and fight in the F-4 and documents the creation of TOP GUN. From the book, you enter every engagement with no less than 550 knots on the jet. When speed bleeds to 350 knots, disengage, extend 2-3 miles, build your energy, and pitch back into the fight with no less than 550 knots on the jet. They found the MIG-17 flies perfectly fine at 100 knots. The author talks about flying "The Egg" where one F-4 is always pressing the bandit in a boom n zoom fight. Read the book and come back to us with an updated Training Campaign Syllabus.
@@ReflectedSimulations Good Man... very good Man. Few in the DCS community even know this book exists. Its been my "mission" to spread the word. Once the MIG-17 is released and after never ending shoot downs of the F-4, people will be forced to read SCREAM OF EAGLES or abandon the F-4. My father flew the F-4 from 1975-77 (CF-104 and CF-5 as well). I'll add a few items here and there from a real F-4 pilot, if I may. Subscribed my friend.
Are we going to actually be shooting down the “enemy” aircraft we are training against (like the various Sedlo red flag campaigns) or will be simulating simulated combat and have to “call shots” like another campaign
Good question! You will actually be firing ( missile physics are too complex for simple triggers to replace) but everyone will be immortal and just egress upon being hit. On top of this shots and kills will be called just like in real life.
@@ReflectedSimulationshmmm…that’s a pretty slick idea. I get to shoot missiles but we have the added realism of not blowing up the guy who’s trying to teach us how to flight
@@mikeck4609 funny how we’re trying to simulate simulation. When I made Zone 5 with Bio he said let’s blow stuff up. It’s an advantage of the sim over real life, so why not use it? :)

Classic USAF ignoring tactics and treating wingmen as squires while the Navy comes in and gets shit done.

Not with the very next one. That one will have Baltic's Viper campaign, The Gamblers.
