Hey guys! This video is my first attempt at using a new and different work flow for video creation and editing so apologies for any issues! This video is all about demystifying the Pave Spike Pod and Self Guiding Laser Guided Bombs into a target in the DCS F-4E, I hope it help you guys out and you enjoy the video!
Might be worth mentioning that Spudknocker only showed a very basic usage of the Pave Spike (to show that its easy to get started with). It is capable of more than a direct attack like that. For example, you can slew it to offset coordinates, scan for bad guys while orbiting and then for example execute a loft delivery with LGBs on them using TGT FIND from a very high range, outside of the threat radius. A trained crew can use the Pave Spike similar to a more modern pod, especially since it already features ground stabilization logic and will always walk the camera back to the target on its own.
2:07 The reason was we planned replace our modernised F-4E's with F-35's. (They are modernised in 2000. Kurnass-Lavi hybrid) Things didn't go well. We have our own domestically produced targeting pods developed by Aselsan, ASELPOD I&II. But nobody wants to make investment to this junk anymore in 21st century, right?
@@SpudknockerI record in 2560x1440 with shadow play. Lately I have gotten lost trying to find the best combination of recording resolution, export settings, that still look good across Instagram, TikTok in RUclips. Instagram especially has been difficult. reels look very choppy.
Fantastic videos! I only saw one or 2 then had to sub, love the dedication and team work you guys have and the commentry. 1 question tho for the DCS community, How many hours would a person have to invest in the game (With no military background) to be able to perform in sorties like this? Rough estimate. I am a avid Warthunder Sim enthusiast and looking to play something more indepth. I know its no comparison but thats just the experience ive had so far.
@@TruleyGifted hey man, it really depends I suppose but it’s gonna take awhile to accrue the required knowledge and skills but it’s definitely worth it DCS is the best!
Pretty good! Question, when I create a mission with own troops (ie Helicopters flying around the airfiled), there always blue labels next to the aircrafts- can I turn them off? It looks so unrealistic. Thanks!
He is holding down the Bomb Button. That is what tells the aircraft that you want to start the attack now and also designates the target the moment you start pressing it. The aircraft confirms this with the beep tone. The Bomb Button can be released after bombs dropped or earlier to cancel the attack. In DT mode, pressing Bomb Button designates the target by using the pipper. In TGT FIND it is instead using what the pod is currently looking at.
It is to tell the weapon computer what kind of weapon you are dropping, so that it can do the ballistic math correctly. All of this is represented in the drag coefficient, which is a function of the entire attack profile and bomb type.
@@Zabuzard Thanks, I would like to know where exactly does that calculation go to? Was it visualized on the drop indicator on the pave spike screen? For my own curiosity.
Thank you Spud ! This is a great Video. Can you talk about a INS Drift fix ? I thought the INS is Importend for the Pave but after one landing the INS has a huge Drift for me
In terms of Pave Spike, the INS mostly affects its ground-stabilization logic. The pod still works just fine with a degraded INS, it is just a bit more wonky. INS fixes can be done by overflying a visual point. Therefore, the WSO enters the exact coordinates of the so called NAV FIX POINT into the Nav computer, then moves and holds the SET/FIX switch, releasing it the very moment the aircraft is flying exactly over the position. By releasing the switch, the aircraft understands that the current position is equals to the entered coordinates, erasing any accumulated drift. If you are flying solo, at the moment you would have to jump in the backpit yourself. Jester will learn this procedure soon though :)
no logro conseguir que las bombas vayan al objetivo como si el laser no funcionara, que puedo estar haciendo mal ? ya realice todo lo que muestra tu tutorial

This video takes me back to my days of doing airflow analysis of Paveway release on the F4s...
Thats really cool!
Seems like Hobos or Walleyes are actually the easier option fot rhis kind of job
They are.. but they also can be shot down pretty easily. Also puts you in direct line of fire for some AAA and Shorads.

Thank you for this Spud. You made it seem easy and it work as you stated. So again thank you.
@@lunaticfringe3126 I’m glad it helped!
Super helpful. Thank you!
Great video Spud. Makes the pavespike look a lot less intimidating to try and learn

I know this is random but I'd love to know your Adobe Premiere export settings. Video quality is fantastic.
What are you recording in?

Question @Spudknocker do you hold the trigger the whole time or is it second detent release?

So the calculation you do with Jester and the kneeboard affects the bomb release point displayed on the screen?

I’d love to see a red flag or long-form multiplayer sortie with f-4.

I feel like by the time I got all this done I'd be shot down by a SAM
@@Drew-C- well you do most of it well before you get to the target area
I’d really love aither a mod or an official update to give the Israeli phantoms their refuling probe
I would love to have that on the F-4!
The refueling probe is planned, but needs some DCS engine adjustments first :)
