    Thank you for sharing this. This is one of the few DIY videos that I actually felt I could actually make one! Many of them seem to require a great set of tools or a whole shop. Others leave me somewhere with the wiring of complex modules and needing to remember the ratings for several components. I like your "paint by numbers" instruction and I need something like this.

      Hi! Sure, it can reach 0°C and even lower temperatures. As Nivs said, it depends on how much heat you can dissipate on the hot side of the Peltier. You could use a high efficiency heatsink such as this one:

      or use a water cooling system like this (check the pics to see the full setup):

      You could also use a water cooler block that can accomodate 2 Peltier units and make something like this:

    Hi. I know this is an old video, just want to know if the ATX Power Supply will continue run even though the thermostat breaks the circuit after reaching optimum temp? I'm asking bcos the on/off function is on the ATX breakout board, so, there's no way to turn off the power supply of the ATX.

      Hi, When the mini-fridge reaches the optimum temperature, only the thermostat circuit will be turned off. It means that what is plugged in the W1209 thermostat module will be turned off (Peltier and fans). The power supply, the ATX breakout board and the W1209 module itself will remain on.     What exactly do you mean by temperature controlled? Like can you control the temperature inside the fridge, for example from 10 to 5C?

      It is like a thermostat, so yes it can control the temperature inside the fridge. For example, you can set it to 5 degrees and the Peltier will only be turned off once it reaches this temperature.

    Sir, I am getting only 25℃ lowest temperature. I dont know why it happens from room temperature of 32℃ it reduces to 25℃ only why

      To reach lower temperatures with a Peltier module, the energy dissipation on both side should be very efficient. You can use a high conductivity thermal paste or silicone pad. You can also use larger or more efficient heatsinks as well as increase the ventilation.

      Use tec 12715 peltier module ,and a large heat heat sink both in and out atleast 8*8 cm.

    Hi, I am after a small portable cooler where you can just insert the bottle on to a case I have designed, Is there any smaller ways to power this device with a usb charger for example and still have the thermostat controller?

      It would be possible for a small volume if the insulation is good. You could also use a usb charger with a 5V digital thermostat such as this one: amzn.to/2VeE60a

    Is there a way to wire this so the fans would turn off when the desired temperature was reached and turn on when cooling was needed again?

      Sure! This is actually what I did. I plugged the Peltier module and the fans on the W1209 temperature controller. This way, everything is turned off when the desired temperature is reached. Please have a look at my website for more info and a wiring diagram:

    how do I set max and min temp point in this thermo state? I mean some one will keep pushing button and get it to 0 degree but peltier cannot get that much cooling. so How to set temp point in that thermostate?

      What you can do is set it to a low temperature such as 0 degree, then let it run for a while and check what is the lowest temperature that it is able to reach. You can then set your fridge to that temperature, but remember that in order to reach it, the Peltier will be running constantly. You may want to set it to a few more degrees to avoid overheating and increase its lifespan.

    its awesome . please let me know whether the smaller heatsink inside the box will be secure without falling into the box just by thermal pad ?? does thermal paste or pad have glue like sticking properties ??

      Thanks for the feedback! The thermal pad I'm using is sufficient to secure the smaller heatsink in place. They should stick together and the heatsink won't fall. That being said, it's not glue and it will fall if you shake the cooler or if you try to open it by pulling on the larger heatsink.

      I also thought that this setup would be a bit more efficient. To reach lower temperatures, you would have to improve the ventilation and heatsinks. I am working on a new prototype and I hope to obtain better results.

    I made a mini fridge having 2 Peltier modules. But the temperature inside the box cannot be lowered after 22.4 degree Celsius. Is there any solution to make the temperature inside the box 0 degree Celsius

      To reach lower temperatures with a Peltier module, the energy dissipation on both side should be very efficient. You can use a high conductivity thermal paste or silicone pad. You can also use larger or more efficient heatsinks as well as increase the ventilation. It would be difficult to reach 0 Celsius if the ambient temperature is high, but you should be able to reach 4-15 Celsius depending on your configuration.

      These Peltier modules are commonly used in thermoelectric fridges, so they are designed to be used for long periods. Ultimately, the life span of these modules will vary depending on your setup. If the isolation and energy dissipation is highly efficient, then the module will not be constantly working at full capacity which will increase its life span.

      You can have a look at the STC-1000 on Amazon, which incudes a wiring diagram: amzn.to/3jkJybe
      However, the output of this thermostat is alternative current instead of DC. You would therefore need to plug in a DC power supply to be able to power the Peltier module.

      i connected +12 v and grnd from atx modul board to stc 1000, it cant be turned on,
      i also tested with -12v , +5v and +3.3v
      still stc 1000 cant turned on
      did i do it wrong?

      Hello,
      I would like to help, but I am not sure what you are trying to do. As I said in my previous message, the STC-1000 is only compatible with alternative current. Therefore, it will not work with DC current such as the one provided by an ATX breakout board.

      Given the efficiency of a Peltier unit, it would be difficult to cool down an entire room significantly.

      Theoretically couldn't you use multiple and blow the cold in the room and the hot out a window? or maybe too much amperage for the controller?

      As you said, it should work in theory. I tried using 2 Peltier units and the controller seemed fine at least for short time use, but the ATX breakout board was heating. I was able to reach lower temperatures for my fridge, but I don't think that it would be sufficient to use as an AC. Maybe I will try a different setup for an AC this summer. I will give an update if I find something useful.
