Yeah, I'm trying to think of a theory of why he looks younger (as both Mallow and Lillie are taller than him) however in the first episode of the SM anime, He gets run over bu Tauros and then states "I'm used to it, I've caught a few Tauros myself" So theory debunked.
He looks younger because of the artists that have taken over for this new series, but it's stated in the game that you have to be at least *11* years old to take on Alola's island challenge So after all these years, Ash may have aged at least once, _if_ they're considering that to be canon in the anime

Yeah I'm here in 2021, and looking back on his old videos, I realized how much Michael's channel has grown, and at this point I'm just so proud of him.
They could have made a lot of money if they had aged Ash and made it a more mature show for the aging viewers, and simultaneously kept the younger show with a new hero.

I love this 7 year old video, because it literally uses Ash is short as an argument and honestly, kids, follow your dreams, whether you succeed or not is 100% random chance
Why does Ash not age? In the first episode of the Anime, after Ash and Pikachu both almost get killed by the swarm of Spearows, Ho-Oh flies over their head. It is prophecized that anyone who sees Ho-Oh gets a wish granted and Ash's wish at that time was to stay a kid forever. Ty for the likes
I think They should make a series with red instead of ash. Then later red meets up with Ethan. Than they both meet up with Brendan. Then they meet up with Lucas. Then hilbert. Then nate. I think it would be kinda cool.
There’s something I’ve notice that a lot of theorists, not you, haven’t accounted for in these ash age theories. The fact that no one else ages either! Think about it, every time a character reappears, they always look almost exactly the same as they did when they first appeared with a small redesign to fit the new series. Misty and Brock reappear in Sun and Moon, and despite a tiny clothing change for Brock, they look exactly the same besides the slight redesign (but that’s just the art style of the series). And look at ash’s mom! She appears in every series! And she looks nearly exactly the same! Everyone needs to start paying attention to everyone else’s ages as well!
Lei actually did age :0 Burnett went from not even pregnant to having birthed a some odd monthed baby from the end of Alola to Ash’s return to Alola in Journey’s.
I always thought Pokemon were real and I have been playing since I was 5. Man those days were great my brother helped me but now I'm 12 and I have to play the game all by my self but I feel proud. I will always love Pokemon I even want to be buried with all my games. That might sound weird but I don't care.
To do the Island Challanges in Alola, you HAVE to be 11 years. Theoretically, Ash should be 11 to do them. But that's just a random thought to think about.
Shuxiang Huang no it wouldn't. we'd get to see him mature, have his first kiss, have drama that isn't pokemon related and all that jazz. just like all the other animes
Or another theory is. The world of Pokémon is an entire new world, developing at an entirely new pace than Earth. This explains why their planet looks different than Earth. It could mean their suns, stars, planets, solar systems, or even galaxies could vary. This could also affect how humans and Pokemon developed over their years journeying. 6 years in our time could be 6 months for Ash. Reverse dog years maybe. This could mean that they said a 'year' in our time Ash has traveled, meaning a month has gone by in Ash's timespan. This would all vary upon their special human and Pokemon evolution expansions over generations. Or you could just blame Dialga. Roar of Time my toilet...
+Landon Repp Technically it does explain that. They have just lived more of 'their' years. Like I said, a month could be a year in our time depending on their distance from their sun. Those old men, maybe 70, would be 840 years old in our time. Plus in my theory, it all varies on their millenniums of evolution, human and pokemon that have shifted their growth spans. Either way. This theory allows Shippers to have no regrets.
A year is a complete orbit around a star or another celestial object. Other astronomical bodies' years are compared to earth in "earth years". True. A year on Pluto is over 200 earth years. Good luck ever celebrating your birthday on THAT planet. So Ash could just be farther away from the Sun in their universe. Or dialga and palkia are at it again.
My theory, every episode is one whole second in the Pokémon universe, every time they reference a year going by or time in general is just the characters attempting and failing to try and pretend like they know the time the audience experience. It makes sense to me but at the same time Ive been up since two days ago so honestly anything goes rn
I completely accept this. Don't care what the writers say. And if they want to keep the main protagonist the same age, CHANGE THE MAIN PROTAGONIST. Like, damn, it's not that hard. You can still keep Ash around and follow a lot of his travels
They experimented with Chronicles it didn't work as much hate as Ash gets new generations love him and the old have nothing better to do than keep watching him
It's Japan. For the most part, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is the mentality here (and even in some cases where if it is broke, don't fix it :-P ) Satoshi and Pikachu are the faces of this franchise. If they were going to change him, they should've done so when Gold/Silver came out and then they could've continued "changing" from there to match the protagonist of each game series. Satoshi is to Pokemon what Hulk Hogan is to wrestling. Even if you don't know a thing about Pokemon or wrestling, you know these two when you see them.
Ash as a character has grown rather well albeit slowly considering the timeframe. In the beginning he won the 1st 2nd 4th and 5th badge due to pity or situational events and needed to be coached through the league to succeed. Along with that after losing he pouted for a number of days and refused to even cheer his friend on initially. In the next region he tried early on to win using former glories namely Charizard, but looking at the league objectively he also had Bulbasaur and Squirtle put in more than their fair share of work as well. In short Ash no longer needed coaching but he did require strong players In the next region Ash notably went along with an entirely new party which went against his stance previously and showed that he's more willing to rely on his own trainer sense. This would be copied in regions to come notably in Unova where he raised 10 pokemon at once showing a major growth from when he could only manage 6 in Houen.
Ink sans and kid goku Saku To point out the flaws of this show and why most Pokemon fans mostly play and follow the games because the show is crap. At least Pokemon origins shows Red aging.
Dude if the final episode of Pokemon shows grown up Ashe (either as a gym leader or Pokemon league champion) and his wife sending off their son or daughter on their journey to become a Pokemon master at the age of 10... I will cry, and my life will be complete.
He is still 10, the entirety of the series takes place within one year-on the finale of the Pokemon anime, it will be canon that Ash now turned 11 _FEAR MY CORRECTNESS_
It is SO lame that he is still 10.. they could've had him age normally and replace the protagonist with a younger character and perhaps make Ash an experienced gym leader or traveler..
Ash is not 10 anymore because in indigo league after he gets his 7th badge (valcano badge), he goes back home and he says "I cant believe its been a year"
What if all the generations are alternate universes, like the first universe he stayed in Kanto, then in another universe he went to Hoenn and so on, what about that?
I still don't get it. Even if Pokemon was supposed to be targeted at younger audiences, they could've just made him grow up as the audience did. Kids could still start from the start and as keep watching as they grew up. They just don't seem to want to change a winning formula, and while that may be the best idea, I think they overdid it here.
I honestly think they lost some viewers because of this. It's basically guaranteeing that the character will lose the subconscious appeal he gains by being close to the viewer's age. I know I definitely stopped watching because I felt like I didn't relate to the character as I approached the age of ~12.
I like to imagine it like this. Kanto to Sinnoh: Everything you say in this section I believe. Unova: Ash is dumber in Unova than I was when I was his age so I'd like to imagine him being 10 where he's in a completely different universe. Also, the belongs Charizard to his mom, that's my headcanon at least. Kalos: Well Ash is actually smart now so I like to imagine him being 15-16. Hell, all of Ash's companions in the region act older as well, although I still believe that Kalos takes place in a separate universe to the other series. Alola: I think it's obvious that this one is in a separate timeline. It's pretty easy to believe he's 11 though.
My math was off by just a little...the way I figured it, if it takes Ash a year to traverse each region (excluding a few months off the Sevii/Orange Islands and the Decalor Islands) he would be around 17-18...hey, at least I was close
Infernalhazard . Honestly, I think that's better than having a character like Ash who never really learns and develops. Some shows (mostly comedies) can easily do this because they don't have a linear plot progression and just consist of independent episodes within a status quo. Pokemon cannot do this because there is a clear order of events and progression of the plot between episodes, but Ash never really develops as a character, and the lessons he does supposedly learn seem to be quickly forgotten. Heck, Pikachu has had more lasting character development than Ash at this point. Digimon is not a fantastic example, but I'll use it since that's what you mentioned. The characters in that series at least get to progress at least somewhat throughout their adventures, and since in each new season (except the second one) not only are the main characters changed, but the whole setting is changed to be basically a different world with different rules, explanation for the Digimon, etc. It's less like watching a single story and more numerous different interpretations of the basic concept of Digimon. Now, that said, Digimon's overall structure can understandably lead to complaints about new characters or changes to the lore that people may not like, but at least you can then single out the seasons that you enjoy and have self-contained plotlines that actually end. Pokemon, on the other hand, is a paradox. Ash journeys without ever reaching his goal. Watching him progress through one region can be its own type of self-contained story, except he never wins (with the sole exception of the Orange Islands, but those episodes were too closely tied to what had come before to isolate them from the rest of the series). One cannot get the sense of fulfillment that the story is over, since Ash's journey is not truly complete. It could be seen as a story where the protagonist just doesn't accomplish his goal, but that hardly fits Pokemon's overall themes of believing in yourself and staying true to your dreams, and especially in more recent seasons, the newer regions are hinted at and introduced within the show before the current season is completely finished, making it nearly impossible to accept any one moment in the story as a cut-off point. If Pokemon took the Digimon route, simply using a new protagonist for each region, it could keep that protagonist at 10 years old without being a glaring contradiction of itself, and those characters could actually be allowed to have concrete character development and even win in their respective leagues. One would think that the only reason to keep using Ash as the protagonist is to keep fans invested in the show over a longer period of time, since they would want to see the rest of his story, but the creators never capitalize on this, and that is exactly what has led to this whole issue with Ash's age. They don't really care about the long-term audience, so there is no real reason NOT to just use a new protagonist for each region. I realize that this has gotten kind of long, and not all of my points may apply to your specific views, but I'll leave this as my take on the issue regardless.
I feel like Ash just accidentally ate an everstone once.

Tell me you didn't watch the video without telling me. 2:32
Pokémon is a kids show. Meanwhile 24 year olds are catching pokemon with their phone ;)
haha relatable
Something wrong with that?
+Chadagun. I hope not, because I am one of those people :P
Kristian Severens Exactly ;)
I've even met people in their 30's catching them :D
ho-oh theory makes a ton of sense
I agree
+Dragon type shiny Lucario Ha ha Slow clap
true but how ?
Agreed
Very true
I think They should make a series with red instead of ash. Then later red meets up with Ethan. Than they both meet up with Brendan. Then they meet up with Lucas. Then hilbert. Then nate.
I think it would be kinda cool.
Pokemon Origins.
There ya go, RED.
Blamhammer but its only 4 episodes, and they cut out major moments, like all the gym battles and the elite 4 battles.
hokage1997 Think its cause no one cares about Red, these kids grew up with Ash not Red.
hokage1997 There's a manga...
***** lol i know
There’s something I’ve notice that a lot of theorists, not you, haven’t accounted for in these ash age theories.
One does not simply grow out of Pokémon.
Unless you're in high school. :P
i'm 24 and still play pokemon
puiyan tam A wild missingNO appeared!
I'm almost 20 and I've played Pokémon religiously since I was 3. One does not simply grow out of Pokémon. Ever.
Lync lol im 23 soon and still plays with my bigger brother that is 26 x) haha still playing pokemon battles agienst eachother
***** LOTR MEME!!!
I would say he is about 5 million years old.
Well, I always assumed Ash was one of those people that doesn't get very tall as they age, so if he has 16-17 years old that would make sense.
so midget ash :3
yourallygod gaming Nah, some people just don't grow up their bodies that much.
Hormones, probably.
Metalders yea ik im just saying he's an old person but is a midget :3 really thats what it is heh
yourallygod gaming I don't consider him a "midget", just a short person.
Remember "Short Round" from Indiana Jones? :3
Metalders i think i do
I didn't realize how old this vid was until I saw 2010 on the chart at the end
I remember when I was 10 I thought Pokémon were real and that they were just an undiscovered species I:
...
I also thought one day I would meet Ash...
I always thought Pokemon were real and I have been playing since I was 5. Man those days were great my brother helped me but now I'm 12 and I have to play the game all by my self but I feel proud. I will always love Pokemon I even want to be buried with all my games. That might sound weird but I don't care.
*Wipes tear away* That was beautiful ;-;
AnimeGamingGirl i want my home made TMNT poster buried with me. TURTLE POWER FOR LIFE! oh and VENUS POWER FOR LIFE! i made up Venus power
Nice c:
Italy I tried to believe that Pokemon exist and I failed...
It's a total BUMMER, but I do my games...
and research!
Ash's last name sounds like 'ketchup'
They did that on perpers (sorry for my bad English)
Yeah, his last name is Ketchem ( I think that's how it's spelt) which is a play on Catch 'em
Ass Ketchup, yup, that's what I have called him for years! Lol
+William Travell Japanese love word play speed racer is a perfect example of that
I guess writers created his surname because of: "Gotta *catch 'em* all!" Ketchum - Catch 'em.
I guess that's it, but maybe it's wrong. :D
They did come out and say ash by sun and moon is 13
Though I might be wrong I'm not entirely sure if that's what they legit said
I just know that at some point it was confirmed that ash was at least 13
It saids he is still 10 on the tv at Japan sun and moon
there's only 700 pokemon
He's going to be 11 in sun and moon because you need to be 11 to enter the island trails
To do the Island Challanges in Alola, you HAVE to be 11 years.
Theoretically, Ash should be 11 to do them. But that's just a random thought to think about.
A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts
That's in the games. It wasn't a thing in the anime. Separating different canons is important for theorymonning.
@@gengarzilla1685When we have no defined answer from the anime, we can use the games as a source instead. Does that not make sense?
Awkward moment when all of Ash's friends become 18 and legal and he's still 10 :P
***** Upupupupupupupupupupupupupupupupu
I wish they aged him normally :(
Shuxiang Huang no it wouldn't. we'd get to see him mature, have his first kiss, have drama that isn't pokemon related and all that jazz. just like all the other animes
*****
Ash get's all the lady's pretty much.
*****
He got a kiss on the cheek from NOT MISTY in Pokemon heroes, the 5th movie...
I wish he was more like Red.
***** His friends would have been adults too. I think making Ash 13-14 would have been nice though. Like the main heroes of the newer games.
Roar of Time my toilet...
it doesn't explain why he's the only one that doesn't age. there are old men and misty ages in a recent episode.
Misty still ages at the correct rate. She's shown as a twenty-something year old woman in one episode.
+Landon Repp She is?? What episode was this?
Ash didn't grew up,he just upgrade this outfit any year
I completely accept this. Don't care what the writers say.
And if they want to keep the main protagonist the same age, CHANGE THE MAIN PROTAGONIST. Like, damn, it's not that hard. You can still keep Ash around and follow a lot of his travels
They experimented with Chronicles it didn't work as much hate as Ash gets new generations love him and the old have nothing better to do than keep watching him
I loved chronicles, though. Ah, people are dumb. -pouts in a corner-
hanon623 Chronicles?
In short Ash no longer needed coaching but he did require strong players
In the next region Ash notably went along with an entirely new party which went against his stance previously and showed that he's more willing to rely on his own trainer sense. This would be copied in regions to come notably in Unova where he raised 10 pokemon at once showing a major growth from when he could only manage 6 in Houen.
ash ketchup
Tom Ato
Ass Ketchup
Yes plz
+Kokio its actually a doggo
Ash Catch 'em
You guys got it all wrong he’s playing on an emulator and has 16x speed on
Good one haha
Pokémon GO is my reason for clicking this video :>
+SlenderKatZ O_o that's awesome
+MandJTV Pokevids I know right
:)
Yep......
Sad just sad :-/
HOLY COW 10 MILLION VIEWS PEOPLE RLLY WANNA KNOW HOW OLD HE IS
Ink sans and kid goku Saku
To point out the flaws of this show and why most Pokemon fans mostly play and follow the games because the show is crap. At least Pokemon origins shows Red aging.
Ikr
Dude if the final episode of Pokemon shows grown up Ashe (either as a gym leader or Pokemon league champion) and his wife sending off their son or daughter on their journey to become a Pokemon master at the age of 10... I will cry, and my life will be complete.
I would absolutely love to see the series end like that
MandJTV Pokevids I would absolutely NOT love to see the series end AT ALL.
Ash will be 10 forever. You're better off living through Red.
He is still 10, the entirety of the series takes place within one year-on the finale of the Pokemon anime, it will be canon that Ash now turned 11
_FEAR MY CORRECTNESS_
nope as when he returns to viridan city he says it has been a year since he was last there
he's fucking 16 right now. and im 16. this is life.
Hell yeah
YorTz Kiske lolz
Holland Rawlings but he is in a 10 years old life and body \(0.0)/
epic pie yeah ik.
It is SO lame that he is still 10.. they could've had him age normally and replace the protagonist with a younger character and perhaps make Ash an experienced gym leader or traveler..
I still get sad when I remember Brock and Misty leaving the show. That was my childhood
i left after weezing and arbok left.
NorthyDoxy i left after Ash' Charizard left.
Wow. The fact he has been doing this for years is just amazing watching him grow was amazing :)
Ash is not 10 anymore because in indigo league after he gets his 7th badge (valcano badge), he goes back home and he says "I cant believe its been a year"
Oh nevermind I didnt watch the whole video when I said this
Also in one episode team rocket says that they have been trying to catch Ash's pikachu for years
This comment has been removed for receiving too many thumbs up.
Lol
Lol
Tell us the real reason why you are still 10!
Chanchai Vue Because logic. Screw it.
Oh rrrrrrrrrreally?
I think he is 10 because the creators probably wanted the kids to start from any season
Nah, if that was the case, they'd not mention events from older seasons and even show characters from the generation before in the new generation.
123leyang321 Then the Creators were Lazy
lego man duh yea. look at the pokemon stunfisk for example
Sam Van Tiel Lol
lego man and they brought back some old pokemon at the end of sinnoh league victors
“Is he still 10?”
Me:no he’s 4 years old due to Celebi changing time to make Pokemon Camps and that you can be 3 years or older
What if all the generations are alternate universes, like the first universe he stayed in Kanto, then in another universe he went to Hoenn and so on, what about that?
nathan cao that would be cool but no, the seasons all start where the last season left off....with the exception of alola
i dont know how old i am
Ash Ketchum Good thing you watched this video
Ash Ketchum Hazent I seen yu?
learn english please
Ash Ketchum
I know English, I just don't want to use proper spelling ^-^
Ash Ketchum id say you just live in a floating timeline.you never age but you always live in the modern world
I still don't get it. Even if Pokemon was supposed to be targeted at younger audiences, they could've just made him grow up as the audience did. Kids could still start from the start and as keep watching as they grew up. They just don't seem to want to change a winning formula, and while that may be the best idea, I think they overdid it here.
Exactly and there are plenty of kids shows where the characters grow up through the years
there are a lot where they dont either :P
+Kevin Zhang meh they can do what they want with the show
Or introduce a new bloody character to focus on if its so important to have a 10 year old protagonist.... Like they did in the GAMES.
Your math was off because you assumed more things than he did. That's a common problem when doing math stuff :D
Amen to that
ZephyrFlarePaladin34 so ash is 18 and serena is like 10 or 12 and she likes him
ASAP Danny she were roughly the same age as Ash during the flashbacks of their past. So Serena would be the same age as Ash currently
so theyre midgets?
I wish they just starred new characters each season. That would have made the most sense.
Think Digimon did that. Something about having a new character to learn about each season gets cumbersome.
How ASH can be just 10
babbi sethi cartoon logic
Simple
Pikapower
He saw Ho-Oh and seeing Ho-Oh stops your ageing
