This is definitely one of the more underrated and under appreciated sedans just because it has that Kia badge. I worry Kia will eventually stop producing it.
Probably so for the US, but will not stop for Korea as they sell quite well in that market. Shame the SUV is killing off so many sedans; this is a very nice car.
Already happened to the Hyundai Grandeur/Azera. A great sedan, still a hot seller in Korea, but nobody in the US wanted it. Honestly I'd rather have a Grandeur Hybrid than any overrated Toyota.
Toyotas are lacking in extras but they can never be over rated. They created the manufacturing philosophy and process that most car manufacturers are now using including German companies.
Same here (2015 Premium/Luxury and 2017 SXL) though like Alex I'm disappointed by how decontented the 2020 model is. No more head-up display or rear sunshades, either.
2 or 3 years ago I got a 2017 with 28,000 miles for TWENTY THOUSAND before tax. Insane value. I swapped out the Kia badge for a more luxurious Kia badge and now people think it's a Genesis which is a far more expensive vehicle. Chrome pillars on the windows which really enhances the chrome accents of the vehicle without looking tacky or over the top. Love it
8:55 thanks for the subtle nod to TheStraightPipe extending sun visor test. All reviewers bring something extra to this huge RUclips audience, and I, for one, do appreciate it. As always, great job.
This is probably the most under the radar kia model. I think it's really the SUV craze that killed sedans. If I didn't have to carry hockey equipment, I'd totally drive something like this happily.
Alex, your reviews are sooo thoroughly entertaining and informative. I could literally just buy a car without even having to sit down with a dealer. We need to see more of Beatrice in future reviews ☺️😎
When I was shopping for a luxury mainstream sedan, I checked out a Kia Cadenza in a showroom. I was amazed at how quiet the cabin was when I closed the door. Even with the sunroof open, there was a very noticeable difference when I closed the driver's door. i could barely hear the music playing in the showroom.

Just bought a 2019 limited technology with every bell and whistle. It was a corporate car so it was never titled till I purchased it. The ONLY unfortunate thing was it had 18515 miles. Out the door it was over 30K. That being said, this is the best car I have ever owned. I have every creature comfort. I have a luxury car without the luxury price. Kia needs to scream from the roof tops about this car and keep adding features and not taking anything away.
Glad you’re enjoying your car dude. I’m afraid Kia has dealt the final deathblow to this car with what they did to the 2020 model. The back is fine but I think the front looks ugly now. Now we have fake two exhaust "vents" in the back when they used to be real ones. So I don’t get why they still kept the duel exhaust when you don’t get to see any of it. They took some features away from the technology model and added it to the SXL model but then took away a bunch of features that the SXL model had originally. So now the top-of-the-line one doesn’t have the manual window shades or the power back window one. No more fog lamps no more head up display no more suede headliner no more power trunk no more paddle shifters I’m assuming no more rear heated seats (Alex didn't address that out so I don’t know ) Only two pluses I can see is the larger infotainment screen and the separate temp display. What a shame.

When listing the Lexus ES and Avalon with a plus for having "avaliable awd" you should really note its only with the anemic 2.5L 4 cylinder. No awd can be had with the 3.5L V6 just like the Cadenza.
I know you know this, but cadenza is a musical term. As are forte and sonata (which is a Hyundai, not a Kia of course). I thought it was a pretty clever naming scheme. I also like the Hyundai SUVs named after Western towns (Santa Fe, Telluride, Tucson, Kona).
The spy shots of the new Cadenza or K8 since Kia plans to rename it to that are incredibly promising! I really hope Kia brings that over to the US!! I'm with you all the way when it comes to plush, quiet, and luxurious full size sedans!
I would agree with the Crossover rather than sedan. The more chair-like seating position and ground clearance are helpful for those of us with bad backs and even worse knees. And I believe your cat just informed you that you'd be receiving a 'gift' for that bit of humiliation. Likely in a shoe or on your bed pillow.
I had a 2014 Cadenza with 188k miles. Never had any issues what so ever. Just oil change, tires, brake pad. Trade in for 2018 Kia K9. This car is best car for the money. I just bought a 2013 Kia Optima with 121k miles for my son and this is another great car. They are making great cars. They need a new logo. Lol
There's an all new model of the K7 that will debut shortly in Korea. The Hyundai Grandeur outsells the K7 by a 3 to 1 margin here and Kia felt they had to speed up the redesign. Should be good!
an absolute kick in the teeth o Cadenza is Kia's very own Sorento, the all new one. Almost 6 inches shorter while doubling on the practicality and usability, and man is it modern!
I've been driving a 2017 purchased in October same year, Purchase the base model without the Sun roof Harman kardon stereo, $4000 less, Which actually buys you more Headroom at 6' 4", 1st cars to go out the door, Especially when Kia is giving you back give or take $7900 During their fall sale, Granted sales tax , And other fees eat into that, As far as tires, I live in Florida I put michelin Sport 4s, From tire rack best road tire you can buy For the climate short of a racing tire, Solves all Noise and handling improves driving, That's said, extremely quiet Easy to drive being a Sedan person, A lot of Bang for your buck And I walk out of the dealership 25000 out the door,Brand new ,with a 100000 mile10 year warranty I tend to keep things,so if you talking about trading in your Lexus in 10 years tell me how much are going to get, that does it really matter, I like saving money, this car is a sleeper ,Go find me A lexis or any car with this many Features, I don't like a big screen on my dashboard( impala), I don't need all kinds of electronic Bells and whistles although it has them if you want to pay for them, No matter what trim you buy it's the same engine under the hood ,No problems so far Just change That oil , And when the 1st set of tires wear out go get the michelins, Tell me how your car drives now! Good review Alex. PS, With the savings I had my car ceramic coated, clear bra where is wasn't already Factory Installed on the rear view mirrors, rear bumper, part of the rocker panels, Just had those improved, Firstly I don't need my car to stick out so someone wants to screw with it it. looks great every day, blending in is just OK, it's A-sharp car when people look at it, Plenty of compliments , Didn't realise that the Cadenza was so sporty looking. Check it out.
I am a big sedan fan myself. If there still were old-fashioned land yachts available, I would gladly buy one now; if I wanted to restore a vintage land yacht, I'd get myself a Lincoln Continental Mark IV or V right away. Even as is now, I've been driving the original Hyundai Genesis for 12 years now, and love love love it.
Man I love this car. Almost bought a 2017 Kia Cadenza, but went with a 2017 Buick LaCrosse (thanks Alex on Autos). If anything happens to my LaCrosse, the Cadenza, the K900, or one of the Genesis models will do!! I do regret Kia put in a smaller LCD instrument screen though.
An under-rated sedan that is a terrific value. Problems are Kia purchasing and warranty service experiences are terrible. I've also read that the paint/clearcoat is thinly applied. With so few cars sold, service outside of warranty might get expensive (minimal availability for parts).
Fair warning from a owner of a 17 technology. there's no torque steer but wheel spin is a big issue. Plus the new kia 8 speed transmission seems to want to get in the highest gear possible all the time. And it's slow to downshift. Also not a fan of the new front end and what's with ditching the fog lights? Do like the new center stack.
The 8-speed was my absolute least favorite "feature" of my 2017 SXL. "Slow to downshift" doesn't begin to cover it; at times mine would flat refuse to kick into a lower gear by itself to accelerate up a freeway on-ramp, and even forcing the issue with the paddle shifters took several seconds too long.
Own a 17 Cadenza SXL. Fully loaded, great road car (33 mpg. @ 70 mph.), no problems and is holding up well. Only issue, front wheel drive in this car is not the greatest winter driving performance with all-season Michelin tires. Purchased winter tires and wheel package from TireRack to solve problems and now drives through snow and ice like a tank. Had a Lexus GS and this to me is the better car. Comes off lease in May, might buy it or go to new Sorrento or even Telluride.
Alex, your reviews are awesome and very detailed. I took this 2020 Kia Cadenza Limited for a test drive. Love the car. It was a little too expensive for me and I settled for a 2019 model.
You nailed it in regards to one of the reasons many are moving away from sedans. I am a sedan guy, but the last one that I could easily get in and out of was my 2011 Buick LaCrosse CSX. I keep looking at sedans but they keep getting lower hip points and rooflines. While they look "sleek" they are more difficult for us older adults to get in and out of. That's not to mention someone wanting to install a car seat in the back. Makes me sad, but it's into yet another SUV/Crossover for me. We've been forced out of them, it's not that we don't want them.
Yes! I got to test drive a 2018 iteration after finding out the Kia dealership I was already at had one on site. Have to admit, this is definitely a car you want be driven in, there wasn't much going on in terms of driving dynamics. But it felt solid and was super comfortable. However it looks like they stopped selling the Cadenza here in Canada after the 2020 model year 😭
Huh, you bought a 2000 Chrysler LHS. I owed a 2000 Chrysler Concorde recently. Loved it. It was why I went back to looking at large sedans over my practical 2016 Toyota Camry. I was looking primarily at the 2017-2019 Buick LaCrosse or Kia Cadenza. Settled on a 2017 Buick LaCrosse and love it!!m Next car (a long time from now) will either be a Kia Cadenza or K900 or Genesis G80 or G90. If I could I would buy a Korean built K7 and ship it to America for the large LCD instrument display!!
Great presentation, very pleasing design, but how inefficient is that power train! That poor performance (23mpg) means fuel costs of £2,500 here in the U.K and $3,300 per annum in the US.
Alex officially declares the trade offs from an SUV/crossover are negligible to the point where he'd choose one of those instead of any large sedan. It's over for that bodystyle.
Couldn't agree more with Alex's assumption on why CUV's are more popular; the fastback styling is limiting to some families needs. We need a sedan like the old Volvo 700 Series to make a comeback.
This might've lost the power trunk option from 2019 to 2020 but it still has the smart trunk that automatically pops open when you have the Smart Key on you
Since ~2018, Hyundai and Kia's whole line up seems So much better than anything from Japan, including Lexus. Design of the Genesis Sedans and SUV is so cool that they make everything else instantly outdated.
I have a 2018 cadenza SXL MSRP $45k but because these aren’t selling well it was out the door $38k. These cars are amazing and if you can get your hands one one you won’t regret it!
look at all that gloss black plastic, I can't believe it's still used after so many years of complaints. definitely glad to see real gauges, though I'm surprised it doesn't extend lower down Still, this would be on my shortlist were I shopping for a FWD sedan
Can’t understand why this and the Azera haven’t sold more. The used versions of these are BARGAINS! Well made, capable quality vehicles. LOVE my Azera. Hyundai and Kia are really nailing all of their segments.
Thanks to Alex we have learned that auto manufacturers do squeeze the rear seat room and luggage space from all sedans making them a mixture of 4 seats 4 doors coupes and sport cars pushing consumers into SUV but simultaneously killing all the market for their sedans and 2 doors sports cars. Even in SUVs world the coupe shape is increasing the market share despite its lack of practicality.

This is so excellently produced and presented. Well done!
An under-rated sedan that is a terrific value. Problems are Kia purchasing and warranty service experiences are terrible. I've also read that the paint/clearcoat is thinly applied. With so few cars sold, service outside of warranty might get expensive (minimal availability for parts).
Super well done! Love the enthusiasm!
It was a little too expensive for me and I settled for a 2019 model.
thank you for doing these i love this car i love large sedans im not going willingly into the suv apocalypse
Thanks for a very thorough analysis. Well done you!
OMG! We need more of Beatrice!
I have a sub compact, compact and midsized cross over. Love all of them.
Heavy BMW inspiration from the front view, but I still like it
18:20 Alex, I'm in my 30s, and I think large soft sedans/wagons are best vehicles! SUV is just not my cup of tea.
I went from 2016 to 2019 the Cadenza is truly my 🚗
I parked my 2022 Stinger next to a Cadenza. My Stinger looked like the bratty younger brother but very recognizably related.
I’ve seriously never seen this model and if I did I can’t remember but it looks nice the grill reminds me of a Maserati
I like how Alex not mentioning his choice of song when he talks about infotainment. But this time, he kinda did with twist.
I bought an Impala new last December. Love it. So much car for the money.
I love mine , people always try to figure out what it is then say damn that's a kia ,I never would've thought😂
I certainly hope it's over for over-styled sedans that don't actually fulfill their stated function of comfortably accommodating passengers.
@@rightlanehog3151 Fair point!
Couldn't agree more with Alex's assumption on why CUV's are more popular; the fastback styling is limiting to some families needs. We need a sedan like the old Volvo 700 Series to make a comeback.
I enjoy your videos. You actually have a comparison between its competitors and show the measurement numbers
Alex, really loves dodge as he seems to brings it up a ton when reviewing other brands.
That's because DODGE is spelled F-U-N
This might've lost the power trunk option from 2019 to 2020 but it still has the smart trunk that automatically pops open when you have the Smart Key on you
Since ~2018, Hyundai and Kia's whole line up seems So much better than anything from Japan, including Lexus.
Design of the Genesis Sedans and SUV is so cool that they make everything else instantly outdated.
Giving thanks for Alex and his videos!
I've got a 14 cadenza and I quiet like it. I really wish it had AWD though.
The Mafia uses Alex’s Trunk “Comfort”Index.

I have a 2018 cadenza SXL MSRP $45k but because these aren’t selling well it was out the door $38k. These cars are amazing and if you can get your hands one one you won’t regret it!
Why are they loosing value that fast??
@@yeb7997 they don’t sell here, that goes for most full-size sedans in the US tho
@@DefineScrib good to know, I will take advantage of it soon!
I like that KIA and Hyundai have been using music-related words to name their cars for a while: Cadenza, Accent, Sonata, Rondo, and Forte.
look at all that gloss black plastic, I can't believe it's still used after so many years of complaints. definitely glad to see real gauges, though I'm surprised it doesn't extend lower down
Still, this would be on my shortlist were I shopping for a FWD sedan
I got the 2018 Cadenza and I love it. I might have to check in too this one
I’m a pianist, so it’s a little easier for me to remember "Cadenza."
@Alan Smithee you like it hard, don't you...
What do you prefer ebony or ivory?
*Beatrice exists*
Me: 🥺
Happy Thanksgiving Alex
If someone wants a discount Lexus ... there is a Toyota Avalon.
Exactly.
