I had an Expedition similar to that one back in the 90s. I've always been more a Timex fan, particularly the Expedition/Atlantis line. I wore one in Afghanistan and when sailing, and have never had any issues.
When I deployed to Iraq, the watch I took with me was a Timex Expedition and it was perfect. My current Timex is an Ironman. Either the Ironman or Expedition line are great grab and go quartz beaters. IMO
Total respect to anyone who fought for their country , but I assume you can't have been in covert ops, not with the sound of your watch movement, giving away your position. 😄
That timex expedition the green one brings back sooo many memories I had one in the 90s from Argos I always thought as a kid with the brown and green it looked like an army watch! And it helped me soo much to learn how to tell the time because I would look at the digital display on the bottom and then look at the anolog hands and it helped me soo much big soft spot for that watch wish I kept the original didn’t know they still sold it think am gonna have to buy one
Why would you not but a Tissot? I think they're largely wonderful. And Invicta? The 1953 is great & the pro diver is better than it gets credit for. It's totally worth the price.
@@yolobathsalts with regards to Tissot - the power of image and marketing is amazing but look at what happens when the illusion is broken and people see through it. It's almost impossible to fool those customers ever again (just ask Budweiser/Budlight).
Back in the 1970s, my father wore a gold Timex easy reader. The flexible band captivated me. The first watch I knew anything about. And I'm wearing one just like it right now.
Yep, my grandfather had a Timex on one of those straps and a Bulova (I think) on a crusty leather strap that was definitively shaped to his wrist. He almost always wore the Timex and kept the other on a night stand.
My first ever watch was a Timex, I was 7 years old in 1976 when it was bought for me. It was an automatic and I overwound it (that was possible then) and it stopped working. I have no idea what it was and not much memory of it, but I'd swap the 40 odd watches I own now to have that Timex back and get it running again. And start the obsession all over again.
I love Timex as they were repped as the crown standard when I was a kid in the USA in the 60’s. They are imaginative and creative and Indiglo continues to be gorgeous. Their black bracelets are the best in the biz. Nice to see you enjoying the brand!
The Expedition and Q watches are the go for me but especially the Expedition. In my 67 years of life I have never owned a Timex or Casio but I reckon that it might be about time. My lightest watch weighs just 54 grams and it is a full stainless steel Seiko quartz my dad gave me for my 21st. It still works a treat and I wear it in my rotation. A watch I will never part with. Thanks Jodie, I always enjoy your videos.
Enigma may not be my cup of coffee but now when I see it live: very lovely, period correct watch. I got their previous cushion-shaped quartz model with a green dial and love it very much.
It is always interesting how many people poopoo on Timex. They make decent watches and my expedition north solar has been a great all around watch I trust to work and fits in anywhere. I get I'll continue to be odd out to the snobs though.
Timex has really reinvented itself. It has a ton of offerings that run the gambit from cheap digital to rolex homage. Plus their frequently dip in to their own vintage catalog to inspire themselves. I really think Timex needs a new design language for their digitals though. I have a Grid Shock digital, the massive 50mm digital and it rocks. It looks like you have a Zune on your wrist.
Oh man, I had one of those Expeditions back in the early 2000s when I was a Boy Scout. That thing went on so many camping trips in all kinds of weather. I lost it in the late ‘00s and I’ve missed it since. Ole reliable, for sure.
Bought the same Ironman watch from Amazon for $43 US a few weeks ago. Used to have a Ironman Flix some years ago and wanted a Ironman again. Great watch and love the size of the numbers on the display. The negative Indiglo has grown on me. Only fault I have with it is that it’s a bit of a pain to get off the wrist when you want to take it off.
I have the smiley expedition and I really like it. Not gonna lie: the misaligned bezel and stiff as nails strap are downers, but once in the wrist is just cool, and the indigo works in both, the digital display and analog face. Thank you for the video
Still have my Ironman from my running days in the very early 90s. Still works although it sits in the bottom of a drawer instead of the watch box, these were fantastic pieces and a must have for any runner.
Timex was the first rabbit hole watch for me then I stumbled upon JOMW and Jody. The rest is history. Didn’t buy another Timex and it gets very little wrist time once I found out what else is out there. Thank you Timex and thank you Jody!!
I'm not too proud to wear a Timex. I grew up in the USA in the 1950s and 60s I know about "Takes a licking and keeps ticking." I wore Timex through most of my childhood and teen years. I like movie and TV watches too so I want a vintage Marlin as worn by Dexter.
Agree. As a older gentleman, I grew up with "takes a licking ." Quite honestly, timex were never meant to be" repairable "watches. For as cheap as they have always been, they were never meant to be repaired. If it finally gave up the ghost after 5 years, you were just supposed to buy another one.
My gramps left me a vintage Marlin, he was born in 1909, I remember his watch in the 70s anyway I have it, I should look for a technician who can get it up to speed.
I bought casio, they are my grew up watches. I own my first one back in 1984. However, I like recent timex. I bought a trail brazer with heart rate, and a ironman T300. I dont know may be i just like timex, i think the timex is just easier to read. The trailblazer has a larger display than the normal ironman, and the T300 use dot Matrix display like a smart watch. The best thing is you can leave the watch ticking or you can turn it off. I dont use a smart watch because they just dont fit my needs, but timex make me feel they are real watch maker, even i grew up with casio.
It's rare to see a watch I bought before you. The iron-man is an excellent watch, and I wear mine frequently. The q reissue is the one, though: very sweet case
I still have my 1980’s Timex sports watch! I think at the time, Timex was one of the few with the easy function front buttons. Either way it’s still working!😎👍🏼
Timex Expedition I have 2 including a solar version. A negative for me is that the second hand does not lune up precisely on the markers. Apart from that, they are good.
I really like that Ironman model, but had never been able to try it nor see it on someone's wrist. Thanks for trying that one and sharing it with us. The Enigma is super cool too.
The one I'm looking forward to is the Q. I'm glad TimeX is finally getting away from the integrated hair pullers. But the LCD ani-digital looks cool too.
I wear an Expedition TW4B25200 at home, beater, water resistant, light, relatively small, easy to read with large digits, Indiglo at night, cheap and thus easily replaced. The only thing I miss is solar.
I have the Ironman and the Ana-Digi Expedition...both excellent watches. The retro inspired digital looks cool but as a value for money proposition, the Casio LF-20W is a better option.
The 80's Ironman is my jam. I have one, but it's in poor condition. But that ana-digi Expedition is total chef's-kiss. I've seen them in stores a few times and definitely have my eye on one!
I like that Enigma and I'm looking forward to your full review and to the ana-digi comparison. I did think there had been a jump in the space-time continuum there my friend. You managed to remove the front sticker from the Enigma twice! 🤣
I have two Q timexes (the chrono and the gmt) and I love them both! I'm actually wearing the Q GMT today, haha. These are cool, especially the ghost-hands one and the Q digi
Jody, please add in the Armitron Ridgemont into the ana-digi comparison. I think it will win. Real full steel case, mineral crystal and electroluminescent backlight. All for less than 50 bucks.
Jody, on the full review please mention the Ironman indiglo stays lit when using the function buttons! Perfect for night running. It's the best benefit, compared to Casios where the light turns off when you press any other buttons.
Lookin forward to the full review of the enigma. Looks really interesting! Also the head to head of the "ana"digi vs the casios would also be great! =)
The smiley Timex has two batteries that’s why it has the battery saver. Thats one of my favorite Timex models ever I’ve had a few. One served me well in Iraq for 15 months.

There have been a few Timex retro reissue i have loved and would have bought if they had been a couple of mm bigger, but 36 - 37mm is just too small for my taste. Some great designs coming from Timex, though.
I had three ani-digi Expedition smile dials in the late 90s/early 2000s; a cream, a red and a blue. Like an idiot I sold two if them but at least I still have the blue. That new one would be my pick of the 4.
Thanks for another great review. Their pricing is interesting, it's almost as if they know which models will be the most popular and price to match... I do love the way the Q line looks, but for the price they're asking, I can get a watch with much better specs. PS, I do own an Ironman which is 20 odd years old. Still, well, not ticking, but functional after spending a lot of time submerged. :)
Just btw those ana digi Citizen Aqualand come up all the time at less than $500, even the depth display ones. I just plumped for the camo tsyosa from your fave Citizen instead tho.......The Expedition is a great watch for a nephew or other kid.
Ahh yes, the NFI module... lots of provenance there. 😂 I should probably pick up a Timex at some point. Hey, just got my Casioak GA-B2100 (black version with red mode indicator and positive digital display.) Thanks Jody!
I can't count how many Ironman watches I've had over the years. My Ironman is my work watch because it has 1 feature that my 3 G Shocks don't have. Night mode. Hold down the light button for 3 seconds, then the Indiglo light will turn on for 3 seconds with the push of any button. Night mode turns itself off after about 8 hours.
Just the distraction I needed to put off homework another 16 minutes and 14 seconds. Thank you, Jody.
