Thank you Jody for bringing my Aussie Limited Edition Seiko Alpinist to life on camera! Love the review! What got me from the start was that Red dial! And after seeing your close up shots It makes me even appreciate it more !! Thanks again for the shout out too !!
I hope you are going to do an 11-11 sale video this year. Every little watch channel does one I know, with the affiliate links highlighted, but I have found yours very useful over the years as someone who buys just a few watches, whereas you have probably bought 100s!
Hey, you can laugh at me. But you won't be when Erebus releases exactly that. I'd take an Erebus Alpinist over this thing any day. I'd really like it to be quartz though. Preferably solar. I've already got a Casio, and a Citizen Dual-time, with internal rotating compass bezel. But I'd like a smaller nicer all-brushed quartz GMT Erebus version.
Mine is number 821! I love this watch so much I haven’t been able to take it off since I bought it in the Melbourne boutique. Dial is even more stunning in person and outside.
Picked up mine and love it. If you’ve ever lived or worked in the outback you know that dial nails the red dust and wind rills in the landscape. Gotta say I love the white date and cyclops for my tired eyes.
I just saw one in store today it looks surprisingly nice in person, I didn't realise it was a representation of the outback at the time. Now I'm thinking of a whirly whirly with the colour. 🌪️
I tried this on at my local Seiko dealer. Not only did the drab dull red not grab me, but the vertical wave pattern didn’t in any way resemble the red earth it’s supposedly meant to (I say that as someone who’s travelled through central Australia). Broader horizontal waves and a price around $1k Aussie would have got me.
Love me some Seiko Alpinist, got the "Rock Face" European limited edition myself, and I for one used the compass bezel on it at least once (to explain to someone how it works).
I usually don't like alpinists, especially with the cyclops, but this dial really got my attention! Some outback red for the collection, ordered one from a dealer in NZ 👍
Your thoughts on the strap kind of sum up the instant gratification attitude that seems to be prevalent. Personally I'd persevere with the original and wear it in, prefer it to the suede. Love that dial though it needs a faceted crystal...
Great review! Loved the photography! Dude the green + gold model! Had to wear my Seiko Land Monster watching this review. Do both crowns screw down? The great thing about the manual adjustable compass bezel is that you can align it yourself (so Seiko doesn't have to align it at the factory). I use mine as a second time or second timing bezel either would be an awesome inner bezel design.
Wow! That red suede strap is a huge improvement over the Seiko supplied one. Nice watch too, it’s a shame it’s an Aussie market only edition. No matter, still love and wear everyday my own Alpinist Ginza limited edition from a few years back. You know, the one you gave dial of the year award to back then 😁
Thanks for your review! I had the luxury of having two available in the same store. I was able to compare them. One had the compass misaligned just like it's represented here. The other was perfect. I was lucky I had the option to see them in person and to choose.
I was prepared for you to be reviewing the Presage GMT. But this is a looker! If you are introverted this is not the watch for you! And the suede strap is definitely an improvement. Cheers!
I’m just getting into watches and this, orient Bambino/Open hearts, and Citizen’s titanium Zenshin series really speak to me. Right now I’m starting with an Orient Maestro and Bambino for casual and dress. $200 ranges My next watch up will hopefully be one of these, or a Citizen Zenshin Super Titatium series. $450-$600 range.
MAN, that texture, and the contrast between the red and the gold, that really is something. I guess they know how much more people would pay for that. Maybe if they added that texture to the green version for less?
I live in the US and I got mine form FIVE FORTY FIVE LTD at a retail price (Australian online Seiko retailer). Excellent service and got the watch at my home in less than 1 week.
I just got my Islander Calabro GMT on a red dial and including shipping… it was around $480 US dollars!! Can’t believe this seiko is almost double the price!!! Thanks Jody, I feel so much happier, and happy I am! Loving my new red watch ❤️
I recently bought an artisan Sydney strap for my wife's PRX 35mm and I can't fault it. Jayson is the owner and his communication is next level. Might be worth doing a video to highlight him with your audience. The strap makes the watch in this case.
Yes Exactly !!! As soon as I saw that strap at Watchfest I felt it was a match made in heaven !!! Artisan Straps are fantastic for both quality and price too in my opinion.
I'm not usually a fan of this style of watch, but there's something about this one that I find very attractive, cyclops and all. But .... not at that price! Had a good LOL at the sticker comment, nice to meet a YTer with such good manners. 🙂
Absolute stunner! However, the pogue esq speedtimer is the one seiko to go for this year... especially considering the price difference and the fact that you can get even better deals shopping around. On this occasion, MWC takes the win 🏆
Red is usually not my color of choice, but I really like it! Any thoughts on the Trafford Crossroads? I know they are sold out at the moment but that's okay I've spent my watch budget for the year in the last few months. 🤑
Expressive for what you get. I live in the USA but even the green dial is crazy priced with the 6r movement which is debatable to be any better than the 4R
As a proud SCVF007 owner, that opening line dissing the OG Red Alpinist cut like a knife 😅 I propose we call this the Ozzy Alpinist to avoid any confusion with the 90s models 😂 great video Jody 👏
I'm not a fan of the aftermarket strap. I'd go factory, and I'll wait for the $$ drop. Thanks for the content. I've been looking forward to this watch.
Wait what? Australia only?! And made with a calf that grew up in Mt. Druitt? Not sure if that made sense. I just looked up most dangerous part of Sydney. Sorry if that’s where you live Jody. 😅. It’s stunning but yeah. Even if they sold it here, not sure I would pay. MSRP. Especially since you have to get another strap for it also. Thanks for the great review though!
I'm in the U.S. (love the channel, btw), that Is an awesome watch. I really like it but not sure I like it $1200 worth. Hopefully, they don't sell out over there and they bleed over into a market we can get out hands on. Keep doing what you do. Thanks
Soak band in warm water keeping watch out of water for ten minutes give it a bend up and wear until dry will fit and conform better to your wrist do it a few times to perfect it will be much more supple😝👍
It's a great looking 800€ watch. Well, being limited, it can cost 15 % more. I hope as Seiko evolve the Alpinist sub-line, they'll add the red colour to the regular offerings. And thin movements, with more consistency.
I just picked one up from an Aussie retailer, $145 for shipping to the US. Was only $962 USD total though with the current exchange rate, so still cheaper than buying a new, regular alpanist here.
I see folks saying you've just got to persevere in order to break-in the stock Alpinist straps, but I've endured the strap on my 2020 SPB123J for weeks at a time over the years and it STILL is stiff and uncomfortable.
I like the watch. And the price would be forgivable IF they included a true premium bracelet and strap. And put on a nice signed crown, maybe the Alpinist logo?
The dial is stunning. ⌚ Make it a couple of mm bigger and give it a solar movement, and you'd have to hold me back. 39½mm I could live with, but automatic never. Too bad, it makes me drool. 🤤
I'm not into red. All those alpinists have the cyclops.I don't mind it, you can remove but may look funny and most date wheel text is too small. Good you can read the date at least but no doubt many have copied the Rolly date just on this.
I love red dialed watches, but this I didn't like at all. Until you changed the strap that is. Man, can straps really make a difference! The strap change turned this watch from a tacky, old man's watch into a retro cool watch that you'd wear on a Friday night.
My bezzie mate loves the Alpinist. So I tried one on. There's too much happening on it for me. It needs to calm down, so Red doesn't solve my problem with it. The perfect example I think of brilliant specs that just don't work when I tried it on. Please always try a watch on if possible folks. Especially faffing about with seiko deployants. Frustratingly awkward
I never try to match my watch with my outfit. But then again I don't care about fashion 😅 By the way Chrono 24 already has one listed from Australia for 1700 Cdn dollars

While I would like to have a watch with a red dial, this Seiko would not be on my list. Cyclops, a dial pattern that doesn't impress me - it even seems to make me a bit dizzy - but yes, to each his own.
I just wish that San Martin would reverse engineer an internal compass bezel, and do an homage in green and red. I don’t even mind if they use the 4R analogue because the 6R is unreliable and I still don’t understand why everyone is so excited about long power reserves.

Love that red dial but the Prospex "X" and the cyclops on the SPB models are dealbreakers, for me.
Nothing beats the SARBs.
