    If only I could be like Saint Theresa of Calcutta. I too have faith in Christianity. I'm not a Saint but if continue my daily Catholic devotional prayers and help the less fortunate and care for others then it's possible I could be.

      Ya most of these are exaggerated up stories by the Catholic Church. The truth is she wasn't as a good person. He took donations from all over the world then put the patients in subhuman conditions. Then gave the rest to the church. Her version of treatment was baptizing people for "getting into heaven". She should be an example for the manipulation Christianity pulls.

      +Isaac Chavez I don't want to come off in the wrong way, but what do you think Mother Teresa did that was so honorable? She provided unsanitary and haphazard care to sick and dying people despite the millions upon millions of dollars her organization amassed in donations. Needles were reused, patients were left with exposed open wounds, patients in the throes of cancer were only given aspirin for their pain. Mother Teresa loved extreme physical suffering; she thought it was the best way to live like Jesus. So rather than providing well-equipped clinics to properly treat and cure people who were sick and dying like she easily could have, those people were encouraged to languish in their suffering and accept their fate. At the risk of sounding strong, Mother Teresa did a horrific disservice to the people she supposedly helped. She encouraged their suffering.
      As a final note, I'm sure Mother Teresa thought she was helping people, but so do Jehovah's Witnesses who deny their children blood transfusions, which can lead to their deaths. What Mother Teresa did was not venerable.

    • @SirTenenbaum
      @SirTenenbaum 8 лет назад

      Purposely having sick and dying people languish in physical suffering despite having millions in resources to establish well-equipped medical clinics is not my idea of "care." Mother Teresa loved the idea of extreme physical suffering to be close to God. She wasn't very concerned about providing satisfactory medical care to actually help sick and dying people. That's the whole problem. (Let's continue the conversation above in order to avoid jumping between threads. See my reply.)

    • @SirTenenbaum
      @SirTenenbaum 8 лет назад

      Sephardic pride Mother Teresa's organization easily collected dozens of millions every year. Susan Shields, or Sister Virgin when she was a volunteer, said that there was easily 50 million dollars in just one account; there were many different bank accounts throughout the world. Donors were exceedingly generous to the organization. For example, Charles Keating, a single donor, donated 1.25 million dollars in a single year. Her organization collected enormous amounts of money only to sit in bank accounts rather than go toward giving adequate medical treatment to the poor.

    Historical revisionism...
    This movie talk about her atheism but not about what she really made.
    One of the worst social and, above all, health damage of the last century.
    A mad misanter, a fundamentalist who has gathered millions to build self-celebratory convents and fill the Vatican boxes, while the sick people died of under-suffering, under hygienic conditions from the third world, despite millions of donations.
    Millions also received by criminals of the likes of Charles Keating, condemned for having stolen thousands of families and never returned or the bloody Duvalier of Haiti.

    Mother Teresa was an amazing and inspirational woman. She taught and lived by Love, Kindness and Compassion. The most powerful and beautiful gifts we have and can give one another. This world would be a better place for all if we tried to be like her. This appeals to everyone regardless of belief, race, gender or species. We can if we are loving, kind, compassionate and respectful to one another and all living beings. When we are, we can create heaven on Earth.

If we of such little faith, that we cannot accept that people are still in connection with a living. God then I think all the preaching in the churches is in vain. I believe there are still today people whom God gives us to remind us in these times that He is here with us. I think she is One of them.

      +Paul Arnold You would think that based on what? I merely suggested that people read the book in question, which I found interesting and convincing. You don't have to read it, or re-read it. I always had a feeling that there was something fishy about the Mother Theresa cult. I think Hitchens exposed her as a hypocrite. The only criticisms of his view that I'm familiar with are ad hominem attacks, and your comment is an example of that, albeit pretty obscure. What dishonest attempts specifically? Do you have a specific counterarguments to the main point of the book, which is that Mother Theresa didn't actually try to relieve the suffering of the people in the hospices etc. and her goal was actually quite different? All you have to say is that there is someone who knows how bad Hitchens really is. Is that your argument? Maybe you're the deluded one.

    • @marygabriel1961
      @marygabriel1961 8 лет назад +2

      my point is, i have been inside her order and i have prayed with them, learned about them and seen their dedicated acts of charity and work. my son simply knows things about hitchens that people outside of his life do not know. my son has inside knowledge of hitchens very dishonest attempts to destroy her, such as persuading dishonest women to pose as a missionary of charity claiming to have worked at her side, manipulating photos and elaborating on her financial wealth in effort to compare with her very simple and humble way of helping others as if to say she somehow squandered all these financial gifts of charity for self gain or giving to the church rather than use it for helping the poor. she began her work and order of a very simplistic life taking the vow of poverty, chastity and promising to live up to the order which is free from money and material wealth. her order was never meant to prosper financially and become an empire. this is simply not what she had in mind or wanted. it is very hard for us in our humanness to understand the purity of someone like her that desired no earthly things and had such an intense thirst to fill herself up with jesus. i can honestly tell you this, if the poor she served ate nothing but rice and drank water, this is all she ate and drank as well. i ask you to think outside of the limitations and ask yourself, why would she only eat rice and drink water when she could, with a phone call eat filet mignon. why would she only own a pair of sandals, a rosary and habit draped around her when she could have adorned herself with any material garments she may have wanted. and finally, why would she deny herself and the poor she served elaborate healthcare facilities when her lifes work consisted on being a total living sacrifice that insisted on serving God in the distressing disguise of the poor by cleansing thier wounds with her own hands, looking into a dying face and giving them unconditional love and comforting words with a smile on her face. most of us can not imagine the lives of the poor being beyond our comprehension and free of materialism and starving for love even more than their need for medical help and other neccissities. the poor she served was beyond these things and some of them had never smiled, or been smiled at. some of them were born in misery and suffering as she called * the poorest of the poor. she truly lived up to her calling and was a total living sacrifice for the purpose intended. think about it and let us reason. did she in any way keep anything for herself? did she not live as those she served? in what way could she have profited and benefitted if her goal was not to simply give all of herself to jesus. i know, christianity to this degree is hard to absorb.

    Every word in this trailer is something that negatively portrays Christianity. It feels very "catholic", if you will. None of it speaks true hope. And they show someone bowing to Mother Teresa like she is Christ. Yes, Christ most likely worked through her in any way that he could, but this is a movie putting emphasis on glorifying Mother Theresa as if she is Jesus/someone to be worshipped. Not ok.

      Um you did see her shaking her head in humility meaning she did not want to be glorified in that way. People are allowed to revere and honor good people. Non Catholics always confuse this with worshipping. It is not the same. The man dropping to his knees was an act of meekness not worship.

    I'm sorry to say this, but I simply have to since people must know the truth. Mother Teresa did not help sick people. Despite receiving millions of dollars which could have been used to establish well-equipped clinics to make people better or ease their suffering, Mother Teresa's organization provided unsanitary conditions and haphazard care to many sick and dying people. Needles were rinsed with warm water and reused; patients were left in beds with exposed open wounds; aspirin was the strongest painkiller given to people dying of cancer. I don't think Mother Teresa is worthy of praise in this respect. What she did to people, especially considering what she could have done with the millions of dollars she received, is tragic.

      "Certainly what u don't need to do is to come here and write bs about someone who only care for others."
      You're asserting that Mother Teresa cared for others. Mother Teresa's idea of "care" is precisely what is under examination. Mother Teresa wanted sick and dying people to languish in their physical suffering. She thought it was a good way to get to know God. The millions of dollars received in donations simply sat in bank accounts while that money could have been used to establish well-equipped clinics to actually ease the suffering of sick and dying people. But that ran contrary to Mother Teresa's ideas about the virtues of extreme physical suffering.
      Countless volunteers and others have provided testimony about the unsafe and unsanitary conditions provided by Mother Teresa's organization. Dr. Robin Fox, Dr. Jack Preger, Colette Livermore, Mary Loudon, Aroup Chatterjee, Hemley Gonzalez, Donal Macintyre, Susan Shields, Sally Warner, Derek Earl (blog "Wandering Earl") are all examples. Do you think it's good for sick and dying people to languish in their physical suffering despite having millions of dollars in resources? I don't. If you think it's good for sick and dying people to languish in their physical suffering, then we'll have to agree to disagree.
      To be clear, I'm sure Mother Teresa thought she was helping people, but so do Jehovah's Witnesses who deny their children blood transfusions, which can lead to their deaths.
      As a final note, when you try to change the topic to my personal character and actions, you are dangling a "red herring." That means you are trying to change the subject toward something irrelevant to support your argument. Red herrings are a fallacious form of argument. We are examining whether Mother Teresa's actions were venerable or not. I don't think they were for the reasons I've mentioned above.

    • @marygabriel1961
      @marygabriel1961 8 лет назад +10

      +SirTenenbaum people simply can not concieve of such saintly qualities. mother teresa was the holiest saint of our generation where God shined through her as a beacon light. watered down and folklore christianity, especially in america can not begin to imagine what the word *sacrifice* means . where is YOUR sacrifice...is what God asks of all christians but not many have given true sacrifice but mother teresa gave ALL while all only give some and she kept nothing for herself. common sense totally eludes some while they pass judgement. mother teresa never did want money and she never intended to open elaborate nursing homes and healthcare facilities, it was NOT her SACRIFICE. she only wanted to LOVE and be good to the ones she served. she did so! people just cant quite imagine such simplicity and beauty nor can they imagine her vow of chastity and poverty because they are simply too wordly and evil.

    • @SirTenenbaum
      @SirTenenbaum 8 лет назад +3

      Paul Arnold As Dr. Jack Preger (a Catholic volunteer) said in his criticism of Mother Teresa, "If one wants to give love, understanding and care, one uses sterile needles. This is probably the richest order in the world. Many of the dying there do not have to be dying in a strictly medical sense."
      I absolutely laud Dr. Preger for the wonderful work he has done in India. I would have no problem with Mother Teresa if she had actually helped people too. I do, however, have a problem with the idea of the poor purposely languishing in extreme physical suffering as some idea about getting close to God, especially when there are millions upon millions at your disposal for your charity as was the case with Mother Tersa. Do you like the idea of sick and dying people purposely going through extreme physical suffering, despite millions in resources to do otherwise? If you do like that idea, then we'll simply have to disagree.
      Do you know what Mother Teresa said about the poor: "I think it is very beautiful for the poor to accept their lot, to share it with the passion of Christ. I think the world is being much helped by the suffering of the poor people." She said this when she had millions upon millions coming in every year to her charity because people thought she was actually providing care. With these resources, she could have established well-equipped clinics to actually help sick and dying people. If that wasn't her goal, then she should have returned the money, rather than have it simply sit in bank accounts.
      As I've said before, I'm sure Mother Teresa thought she was doing the right thing by purposely having the sick and dying go through extreme physical suffering, but Jehovah's Witnesses also think they're doing the right thing when they deny their children blood transfusions, which can lead to their children's deaths.
      As a final note, when you demand to know what I've done charity-wise, you are trying to assail my personal character to invalidate my argument. That is precisely what an ad hominem fallacy is. Claims or arguments are valid or invalid independently of the person's character. We are talking about whether Mother Teresa's actions and philosophy were venerable or not. I don't think they were for the reasons I've given.

    • @marygabriel1961
      @marygabriel1961 8 лет назад

      are you not trying to assail mother teresas personal character in the same way? let us reason and not take part in double standards. for starters i do not recall asking you what you have done in the way of charity or any other act of positive means for your fellow man. it appears you are adopting the same intellect with me that you condemn mother teresa, without even knowing what you are talking about. when one is looking for a reason to hate someone they readily adhere to any lie to further develop and validate their claim. i have asked you to only look through the lens of fact and truth rather than someone else bias lens. the only ones qualified are the ones she actually served, what do you see through their lens...or have you bothered to look.
