      If ya really wanna have fun just take the handles apart from both reels and most *importantly take the grips off * when you take the grips off pull the bearings out(see for your self).... between the reels .....does it really matter ? you guys decide ..( for me, i thought it was cool to see the diff. )
      P.S I love both the reels,But for me just my opinion i like the Kastking better. Thx and tight lines !

    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    The fact the Torrent casts better than the Royale with half the bearings speaks for Piscifun in general. I own 6 Torrents and am having a hard time using any other reel. Piscifun is the real King.

    Here is my experience - I went with the Piscifun for my first baitcaster because of this video. Out of the box and in the yard practicing, it was beyond my expectations. I was thrilled. Then I took it fishing. First two trips out, again, I loved it and was agreeing with all the hype about it performing like a reel that cost $100 or more. After the third trip, the retrieve became really rough, and dull grinding noise developed. Mind you, I performed maintenance on this reel after each use. After the noise developed, I stripped it down and tried greasing and oiling everything. Still was rough and noisy. Luckily I was still within the return period for Amazon. I swapped it out for the KastKing. So far, the KastKing to me feels about the same as the Piscifun did. It is the durability that I am concerned about, with any $40 reel. Not too hard to make a reel look and feel good for the first 100 casts. But the Piscifun, at least in my experience, broke down quickly. Time will tell if the KastKing is any better.

    I have the Torrent myself and for a reel made by child laborers in China I have been pleasantly pleased with the Torrent. Compared to a higher priced Piscifun and my $160 Abu reel, the Torrent is right there with both of them.

    Bought the piscifun torrent and it feels like a $200 baitcaster. The brakes are excellent, the clicking spool tensioner and the oversized handle makes it an awesome reel. Going to buy another one and pair it with the kastking royale legend rod. Cant wait to get it.

    Good honest review. I have not used the Piscifun reels, but I do actually own the Royale Legend reel and that was the first baitcaster from KastKing I ever bought from them. That was about 2 1/2 years ago and even using it a few times inshore to catch flounder (of course after saltwater use a good cleaning is required) is still like new. As far as casting the Legend it can be a little bit tricky to cast if not set up properly. But once you get it dialed in it casts like a dream. Tip for you, pop the left side plate off push in switches 1 & 3 to the center, put the side plate back on and turn your outer brake to about 8 or 8.5 and then set your tension control knob to the bait you are using and that should have you casting a lot better.

      This is one of the things I like about the KastKing. Although it takes a little longer to dial in, it is nice to have that option. I have 2 and 4 on the centrifugal pushed in, and set the outer brake to 8. Using 35 lb braid, I have no issues with backlashes at all.

    I own the Kastking. Awesome baitcast reels. Virtually backlash free once you set the brakes properly. In fact my speed demon won't backlash even with the brakes ignored. It's like using a spincast. More importantly the company was started by 2 guys from Syracuse University in NY so let's give some American entrepreneurs some love. Especially my fellow NY'ers!

    I have used many expensive reels such as my Pfluger Patriarc ($200) and Shimano Curado ($180) and the Piscifun Torrent still out preforms them. The Pfluger and Shimano are good reels but dang, I don't know how Piscifun does it. Their reels are amazing.I dare you to cast one! They cast nearly the entire spool! When the bass are schooling and you want to stay back, cast a Piscifun as far as you want. The bearings are rediculously smooth. Like REALLY smooth. Go grab you a Piscifun reel. They are cheap, real cheap. Like I've spent more money on a 300yrd spool of fishing line then I have on their reals. Trust me you will not be disappointed!

    I've got both reels and I agree with you, the Piscifun is the better reel. The no. 1 reason for my choice is the "oil" port on the PCF. I fish salt water and that ability to lubricate the reel without having to dismantle it is a big deal for me. And you're right, it has a better, smoother cast.

  • @zach123beast

    I'll start out, I have owned a Kastking centron, and a Piscifun Torrent, as well as an Ardent Apex Grand. Although the Centron is a spin caster, let's start with the build quality, at a 30 dollar reel you can't expect much but when you have a fish on the other side of the reel. You can feel where the reel seems like it wants to fall apart the handle is made of a cheap plastic that bends and flexes. Going to the Ardent Apex Grand the most expensive reel a $220 baitcasting reel , with 12+1 Ball bearing and a 12lb drag. From day one of ownership I have had issues with the reel from the reel getting shipped without a tensioner to bad spools. Comparing that to a 40 dollar Piscifun torrent, you'd expect the expensive reel to outcast and out perform the 40 dollar reel by 10 fold. After owning the Ardent since March of 2017 and the Torrent since October of 2017, putting the reels side by side the piscifun outperforms the apex grand hands down. After the great experince with the Piscifun I'd defently not only reccomend them to friends but I'd spend more money on their reels

      also ball bearing count..if the bearings are placed correctly and support the gears / pinion/ structurally..you don't need as many..this 10-13 bearings all over the place just adds cost and complexity..more fail points..some pro told me anything over 8 is very excessive..i'm not a pro, but can grasp what he is saying..2 ball bearings in the handle end--just to get the count up..crazy..lol

    Most of my life I've been an Abu Garcia fan since 40 years ago, I was never satisfied with Shimano and Daiwa reels performance. When the phantom came up to the market I was hesitating about geting it. First tought was it may be a good backup reel. After watching your video I decided to go for it. Once in my hands I was really surprised, the look, the quality, the lightnes, the performance, I understand that the ball-bearings are Japan made. And is so cheap! It's my first chinese reel and I'm so happy with it! I only hope it lasts as much as my abus. Thanks for your advise!

    I don’t have any problems with my KastKing reels on normal use, they work fantastic. They only way I’ve ever had problems with them is after abusing them like dipping them in mud (that’s a no brainer, you’d shouldn’t do that with any reel). You should review a piscifun vs KastKing spinning reel

    Bearing count has no effect on casting performance. There's only 2-3 bearings on the spool, depending on the reel design. Those arw the only ones that affect casting.

    • @lojofishing
      @lojofishing  6 лет назад

      I wouldn't say number has nothing to do with it, but I understand your point

    • @clamboni9
      @clamboni9 6 лет назад +6

      lojo.fishing Whether there's 4+1 or 11+1 only 3 touch the spool shaft. All of the others don't turn during a cast. There's a few exceptions with reels that have a bushing replacing one of the spool shaft bearings. Also some that have a shorter spool shaft, so only two. Also of note, I just bought a piscifun phantom, and the inside diameter of the bearing under the cast control cap is larger than the shaft so the shaft just spins inside it without contacting the bearing.

    • @alvinwine5665
      @alvinwine5665 6 лет назад

      The bearing placement has more to do with the overall performance and stability and smoothness of the reel the more bearings one has makes the reel more stable for the long run over time my other reels with less bearings get sloppy on performance while my reels with more bearings stays smooth longer over time you will find that out.

    I can't speak to the quality of the KastKing. I had looked at buying one but they don't ship to Canada from their store and they are overpriced on Amazon.ca. I bought a Piscifun Torrent instead and I'm really happy with the purchase. It is not just a great baitcaster for the price, it is a great reel period. I also own a Shimano Curado I-series that cost almost 5x what the Piscifun sells for and the Torrent casts just as far and is just as smooth. I don't have any backlash problems, drag works well. I have owned a Piscifun Torrent for about 3 years. It is a once-a-year muskie reel for me (despite the fact that it is not intended for muskie.) My buddy said it's a great reel for the price and at that price you can get a new one every few years when it wears out. It has been rock solid for me. I love the low profile and the thing casts like a champ. (80 Power Pro braid + 100 lb fluorocarbon leader and muskie lures.) I'm due to get a new one this year, but part of me thinks I can get another season out of it. Was looking at the Kast King, but after watching the video and my own experience, I am likely to stay with the Piscifun. (Plus you get a 10% discount.) Thanks for the Video LOJO. Rock them Bass!

    I purchased the kastking in early spring. First trip out it done great,I landed 5 fish that day. However on the second trip out two days later I hook a large fish. The drag started to squeal very loud and then locked up. I figured the line would snap so I continued to fight it but nope the gears chewed themselves to pieces and went free spool. The fish spooled my 50lbs braid. The kastking was promply placed in the dumpster at the boat launch!!!

    I currently own and use the KastKing Royale Legend along with much more expensive reels, a couple of Abu Garcias and one Lews. Setting up the Royale was much more tedious than the others, but worked well when I finally got it tuned in. I only apply two of the centrifugal brakes, and the magnetic brake which of course varies with lure weight and wind conditions. The spool tension knob has no clicks, which is easy to adapt to. It doesn't feel as sturdy as my other reels, but does handle big bass as well as the others, no problems pulling 3 and 4 pound bass through thick lily pads. The release lever malfunctioned for a while, but has been working fine for the last few months. I have not disassemble it to inspect for a possible quick repair. I may get the Torrent to compare, because as all fishermen know, we can never have too many rods and reels!

    I've got both, and they're both really good reels for the money. I had to clean and oil both of them when I first got them tho; the torrent was whining/screaming with hard cast, and the royale legend just felt a little rough, but a little 3N1 oil made them both feel great and got rid of the "problems"

    Great video, the fish jump at 3:20 was sweet too. I picked up a torrent shortly after it hit amazon. It's been a great reel in fresh and salt water and is extremely smooth, last weekend I caught 3 coho on it in tidewater with the biggest being 10lb and it didn't miss a beat. The magnetic are strong and the drag is solid. Piscifun really pays attention to the small details on this reel and still kept it affordable to your weekend warrior fisherman.

    From what I have seen on some of the RUclips videos, that I've watched, where a KastKing baitcasting reel is used, the person invariably likes it. I have also seen favorable reviews on their spinning reels like the Sharky ll and lll. Contrariwise, I haven't seen too much said, good or bad about Piscifun reels; not that there's anything bad about them. I like it when guys like you do reviews like this so I can learn more. As an aside, Piscifun also makes some real nice fishing tools such as hook removers, etc.. They also have a beautiful fishing backpack for $84.95 on Amazon.

    This is my story. I’ve been a spinner guy for over 60 yrs. Love fishing and wanted to try something different and lighter. I didn’t want to invest a lot for my experiment so I ordered a kastking rod and baitcaster from Amazon.
    First drip out, I caught one fish with no problems. My second time out was on a boat. I noticed a loud grinding noise and the drag slipping..it got worse the more I used it, so I switched to my old spinner rig.
    I took my kastking apart when I got home but didn’t notice any wear on any of the gears which I thought was odd. I put back together and tried it in my driveway..same problem. I did it it about five or six times trying several different things, including ordering replacing a gear. In my frustration I threw my reel in the trash a couple times but ended pulling it out because I didn’t see any wear.
    While looking at an exploded diagrams on the internet I came across an exploded diagram of a demon (I ordered a Royale Legend ll). It had a note that many came from the factory with drag pressure washer came )) which was wrong, should be ()..note: my reel was in the trash can at this time. So I pulled it out again and flipped one washer over. That seemed to solve the problem..
    Okay, why did I go thru all that trouble, you might ask? I loved the feel of the rod and the smoothness of the rig. I think it is a great reel for the price and convinced me to use it for shallow water dropping.. while I was trying to figure out my problem, I ordered a Shimano so I now have two baitcasting setups.

    I've had the royale legend for over 3 yrs. In the beginning it was great, but the last year of owning it has been giving me issues. I bought the torrent for a beach caster thinking if it dies I am not losing much money and it had great reviews (although most of them mentioned "this is my first baitcaster") . It has been on 5 saltwater trips so far, always rinsed with fresh water at the end of the day and is still working like new. Only caught a few small fish on it so drag has not been tested. The bigger bites just happened to be on spinning reels. For what it costs I think it a great reel. I plan to take it on my paddle board btb. If I get dunked and happen to lose it what am I out of? Just buy another. I have never tested kastking so I cannot make a comparison.

    I saw your review then I bought the Piscifun Phantom reel from Amazon and when I received it I put 30lb braided line onto the reel the line did not sit properly on the spool. The line was off to one side. The reel was obviously defective. The next day I contacted Piscifun customer service about the problem and they asked me to take pictures of the line on the reel and send it to them, which I did. Then they asked me if I could disassemble the reel and replace a some washer, I did not want to disassemble change out parts. So, I Asked if I could exchange my defective Phantom reel for a properly working reel. Piscifun asked me to ship them the defective reel first and pay out of my own pocket for shipment, and they told me NOT to return the reel to Amazon. By this time I had already spent my time and fishing line and money on the Piscifun Phantom reel which arrived defective. I also missed out of fishing time. Please beware when you buy Piscifun products they are not the quality you expect, and the Piscifun is not good at customer satisfaction. I ended up returning the Piscifun Phantom reel to Amazon.

    I have the Kastking and I like it very much, as long as I'm throwing heavier than 3/8 oz. i have a Piscifun also but it's not the Torrent. It also doesn't like to throw light stuff. For throwing light baits, I like the Black Max 3 in this price range. It works great for small squarebills and jerkbaits. They all work great at doing different things.

Sort of neat that you can get a really decent reel and Not spend a ton of money. I applaud both companies for thinking "out of the box" and looking out for the end users. For that money I think they are both amazing reels. I have chosen Kastking Royale though, for the fact I like to use as light lures as possible and this new dual 7 magnets braking system on Royale seems to me to be much more effective for such lures than just plain 5 magnets on Torrent. It gives much more room for adjustments in various wind conditions, especially if one is using free running spool (the tension knob is set as light as possible as not to hinder the cast). The other thing in favor of Royale is that I don't like "horsing out" the lure but prefer nice smooth casting in which I believe the Kastking Royale Legend (and Stealth even better) is absolute champion amongs non UBF specialized castings reel of any price range that I would ever consider (buying a 300$ or more $$$ reel is just ridiculus in my opinion)!
    Nice way to present them both, you have got one more on your subscribtion list, though...

    Without reading all the reviews, what about the braking systems? Most of us are using a $40 reel are beginners.
    I think the kastking has dual breaking where the torrent has just magnetic. That is a gamechanger for most when learning baitcaster. Your thoughts?

    I've got a bunch of bait casters but i became a devoted kastking connoisseur after i purchased and used the kastking spartacus maximus. Loved catching 25lb+ striped bass with it in the bay from kayak. Bought the brutus and started using it in my local river systems and had no complaints. I got a few different sizes of the sharky III spinning reels as well. All around good reels at a good price. I saw some bad reviews on amazon for some of the kastking reels but from what i read, it sounded to me more like typical novice bait caster errors which will happen with any reel they touch. 🤷‍♂️

    Just bought a Piscifun Torrent for my first baitcaster, pairing it with a budget Lew's Speed Stick. Figured I'd start with budget stuff to make sure I can use it! Reel feels unbelievably smooth and well made for the price I'm impressed. I'm curious on your claims about casting distance, if the amount of bearings in the Kastking might actually be a downside. Assuming the bearings are the same grade, say abec 5 for example, then more bearings would mean more friction... just a thought.
