In terms of progression and story, I‘d love to have a "rival festival" scenario. You win races to gain followers and fans and when you have enough influence, a boss challenges you to race for festival territory (kinda like in GTA San Andreas with the green and purple map areas).
You start off with a tiny festival site at the corner of the map and your goal is to cover the entire map in Horizon‘s signature pink color.
At the end you have the final showdown against the owner of rival festival: A smug, rich, douchy, cheesy boss. You leave him in the dust and the Horizon festival lives happily ever after.
    Fin.

Forza Horizon 4 didn't even have a story. Your Progression was going through 4 seasons and doing events that was it. (My own Personal Experience) I've never really felt rewarded for earning cars. You get one each week for doing certain things and that was it. Yes I love building my garage and earning cars but I don't want to own half the car list in the matter of a week. Forza Horizon 2 gave us Wheelspins but it didn't spoil us to the point where we get 1 million on the first day. They even had a perk for better Rewards in Horizon 2 for Wheelspins because they knew it was hard to gain money. I want that again..

Like at least horizon 3 gave you a sense of direction and a story to complete in some sense.
And to the car thing too, yeah, I have way too many fucking cars. And most of them suck & or aren't really interesting or worthwhile to drive. I go on horizon 3 and im like, yoooo I have way less cars but I wanna drive like all of these.

I can definitely agree with all of you. In Forza Horizon 4 I got a so many Supercars and hyper cars (i.e Aston Martin Vulcan FE, Koenigsegg One:1, Ferrari 288 gto, etc) for free from the wheel spins. Even some of those 10 million dollar classics (Ford GT40 Mk2). I also understand what was meant by never feeling the satisfaction of completing the game. Till today I still feel like I haven’t really completed the game despite completing it years ago. The festival playlists are also quite mundane and give you even more valuable cars for a small price. The cars sounds are also trash. My favourite car sound irl is that of the Pagani Zonda Cinque and in the game, it sounds horrible. I still enjoy the game though and I really like the large variety and amount of cars in the game. I still really enjoy the multiplayer in the game.

This game just felt so nice to drive in, but (even despite loving Britain) the map felt too small with everything packed too close together and it all just felt too similar. My favourite map is still horizon 3. It just felt so alive and special compared to the less interesting and diverse fh4 map. Australia allowed you to change from city to outback or beach to rainforest very quickly, whilst I feel like you are just constantly driving around British forests.
I also occasionally try and play with friends which just ends up being more frustrating than it's worth because the matchmaking system is just long and overcomplicated. This just makes it irritating to even attempt at messing about with my mates.
I do enjoy this game, but it just feels like a step down from the previous games, so I really hope horizon 5 goes back to the way the older games felt.

Got this video recommended. Horizon 4 was my entry to the series and now after one year of Horizon 5, I can confidently say that Horizon 4 remains as my favourite of the two for multiple reasons.
    - The 4 seasons are executed way better than in Horizon 5. I know this is attributed to the location, but in the UK you actually noticed when the seasons changed. Cruising around in Mexico, the only change you'll really notice maybe is the rivers being full or dry (and the snow on Caldera, but when are you ever really up there?), meanwhile in the UK, you had the full map covered in snow, entire huge lakes frozen over, and the leaves in the trees changing colors. It was beautiful to look at, because you could actually tell that the map was ever-changing with the season.
    - The map feels extremely satisfying to drive on. It has a lot of things you could wish for: Long straights (especially the highway and the long stretch at the beach), Techy curves (Glen Rannoch), a great mix of small towns and a big city (Broadway, Edinburgh, the Town south of the lake) and amazing Rallye spots (Quarry, the Forests, the mountain at Glenn Rannoch, Arthurs Seat). Although the map is not the most diverse with long stretches of empty fields and all, it still feels like I haven't discovered it all, while in comparison, although Horizon 5 has more diverse and interesting spots, the vast stretch of empty nothingness makes the map feel empty. The small towns are fine, but Guanajuato as the major town in comparison to Edinburgh feels incredibly claustrophobic and just isn't that fun to cruise around.
    - The events in Horizon 4 are more enjoyable than in Horizon 5. Both games have their fair share of great races, but both the Showcase Races and Playground Games are more enjoyable in Horizon 4 than Horizon 5. Starting with the Showcases, some of them can be directly compared: Racing the Contach through the Canyon against the Train can directly be compared to the Nomad and the Train rushing towards Edinburgh. While you stay mostly glued to the road in 5, 4 launches you cross country and actually gives you multiple interactions with the train on the way, having multiple near collisions and just giving an overall more exciting setting. The flow of the biker showcase in Horizon 4 is so more smooth than in 5, where the section going through the tight corners of Guanajuato just completely kills the flow. As for the Playground Games, the maps in 5 feel so uninspired: The Stadium is just a circle, Ek Balam is a campfest, and the only decent ones are the Airfield and the Baja Circuit. Meanwhile each playground area in 4 just nails it: Mudkickers hills makes it really fun and allows insane manuveurs, taking chase between the trains in the trainyard leads to some exciting hunts, the seasons changing the water in mortimers gardens from a shallow puddle to an iced slidefest give it a big amount of replayability and the diverse setting of the castle gives less repitition. The businesses and other side activities were a great shakeup from the normal racing, and even if they were glorified PR Stunts and Time Trials, they still had their charme. Meanwhile in 5, most of the stories are subpar and even annoying in some cases. It's hard to enjoy the stories when Alejandra keeps blabbering on about "PaPa FeRnAnDo" or the Donut Media one is designed rather lackluster.
    - The progression, oh the progression: The system in 5 isn't bad at all. In fact, I like how they pretty much carried over the system from Lego Speed Champions, because I enjoyed hunting these accolades. However, some of the things unlock way too quickly. What made Horizon 4 so great for me was that it actually took you time to unlock everything in a category: You wanted new PR Stunts? Do the prior ones enough to unlock a new set. New sprint races? Get used to the current few to get a few more. Levelling up your "mastery" in all of these gave a proper sense of progression towards unlocking the events. The stamp system in 5 and unlocking everything from a category right away takes all the wind out of the progression that made FH4 for me. The overcommitment to the Lego Speed Champions system was therefore also a downfall in my eyes.
    - Speaking of the DLCs, as of now FH4 still has the better DLCs. I'll be real honest here and say that I don't see the appeal of the HotWheels DLCs. For me, Forza Horizon is about exploration and Free Roam, so having the Hot Wheels Nexus box you in for most of the track with only a select few sections to leave it, it just felt so wrong to me. Maybe HotWheels just isn't for me, but I didn't have too much enjoyment with the DLC. In turn, Fortune Island is just beautiful. The map is enjoyable, the progression is great, the addition of Trailblazers was a great idea, and the treasure hunts were real fun (which is why I was happy to welcome them back to Horizon 5.). I'm split on Speed Champions for a lot of reasons, so I can't give a perfect clear reasoning for it. From the map itself though, I'd still rank it above the Hot Wheels Expansion.
    - Finally, the online component. From Playground Games, to the trial, to Horizon Arcade?, Horizon 4 was always a blast to play. You had full lobbies of players, encountering them on a semi-regular base while cruising through the UK, and the Arcade matchups were very popular, most of the time having at least half the lobby participate. Meanwhile in 5, you barely see anyone, and even the "Freemode" Events are empty mostly, and more often than not you're running the Arcade alone. Throw in the online mode being completely broken at times or still running horribly almost a year later, and you have an unenjoyable experience. Even worse is the current model of selling cars that have been in the Horizon 4 car list as "new", having half of the carlist from 4 non-existent in the game only to be added later. The festival events are starting to feel uninspired and sometimes don't even work at all. Horizon 5 feels like a burning wreck.
I can absolutely believe the long-time Horizon fans that FH4 isn't as good as the prior entries, but for me it has solidified what Horizon was supposed to be and the potential that the series had, while FH5 proceeds to drive it all against the wall with lackluster updates, which make me return to 4 a lot more recently. Part can be attributed to the nostalgia, but for me Horizon 4 always has a place in my heart, and it gets broken by what Horizon 5 is right now.

My main problem with horizon 4 is the single player, if they had put just a bit of thought, it would have been great. When they did think about single player, fortune island had a great little story that was very addicting and i enjoyed 10000% of that expansion, but the fact that the game was pretty much "ok, play for 1 hour, get 10 mil credits, buy ONLY the OP cars and then race online" was very irritating to me. Horizon 3 and 2 IMO had a great balance between single and multi player, however horizon 4 lost that balance and made the game much worse to me

Horizon 4 had more of a story then 3 albeit still not much. But the map is better then 3 and 2 with all the elevation changes and roads. 3 was literally just straights with mostly flat ground, it was a more diverse map for sure but those roads made it boring after a while for me. Think it’s just everyone is tired of FH4 map because it’s been out a long time.

@@VerticalStrafes edit: being tired I miss read your comment, I agree with you lol
I’d disagree, I think fh3 was the worst of all the maps. The jungle had basically one road through, and the desert had the highway and the parts of the map I spent time in where pretty boring and reused a lot of assets. In fh2 everywhere felt unique, not just by changing the colour of the ground, by having unique assets. If fh4 had more diverse assets rather than copy and pasting the same assets all over (and fixed the saturation from being too high) then it probably would have been my favourite map.

I loved every second I’ve played this game for even with the issues it had at launch. To see how the game has turned out over the years is amazing to me and shows that the devs do care. This game has gotten me into car photography, something I wouldn’t have even considered before. Even though I do feel as though the game is kinda dull, I still find myself playing it regularly. Its a good game but as you said in the video it had the potential to be great which I think some people probably think it is. Over all FH4 is an awesome game and I hope FH5 will be even better.

If I had to show where each game excelled at, it would be:
Horizon 1 - Story, festival atmosphere, cohesiveness, and the reason why Xbox was relevant to me in the first place.
Horizon 2 - Roadtrips, Environment atmosphere, sounds, Showcases, sense of speed, artstyle, dirt racing, and why I got an Xbox One at the time
Horizon 3 - Soundtrack, expansions, opening intro, bucketlists, innovation (at the time), playground games (the only MP I actually played enough of), and my personal favorite with 500+hrs clocked.
Horizon 4 - Car list, car handling, elevation, Offroad driving, customization, graphics, Horizon stories, post-launch support, and longevity
I'd say that this is the weakest of the series, but that only helps Horizon's case because of the bar it managed to set for itself, the critics, and the fans. It is hard to build upon a concept that is so established while pleasing everyone, where games like Need for Speed 2015 (then) and Project CARS 3 weren't as lucky, and things like not carrying over songs between games (except that Halo track) and all that but with most of the wishlists being turned to reality between Horizon 3 and 4, it shows that somehow, someway, they are listening to us. And seeing how from Horizon 3 onwards grew and broke out to the point of challenging peak NFS and prime Gran Turismo, it would be an understatement to say how eager I am waiting to see what Playground could offer next, with a grain of salt mind you, but eager nonetheless.

For me, FH4 is the best in the series but I may be a little biased, being British n loving the map. I actually think 4 cleaned up some of the overwhelming sandbox aspects that were introduced with 3 too. For instance, in 4 I liked how unlocking new races was directly tied to completing races in a race category. So, if I wanted to blast through road racing, I could focus on that. In 3, the "fans" system, where a million icons just carpet bombed the map every time you got to a new festival level, rubbed me the wrong way somehow. I agree that the games are more sandbox-y now, but I found 3 more overwhelming than 4.
Agree on the DLC big time. Fortune Island is fantastic and it sort of works as a condensed FH4 with a satisfying path. In a way, it can be enjoyed as a full game if the main game is too much. I think a hybrid of 3 and 4 is what we might get with 5, I just hope the new expeditions mode is more linear than 3's "fans" system.

Weird opinion but I miss being forced to use certain cars/classes in events. In Horizon 4 I found myself using the same AWD S class car on rally tires for almost every event because I already had it built well. Events for specific classes are more fun in my opinion, ie fwd B class or something along those lines. Forces players to step out of their comfort zone and to try new things/experiment at setting up new cars

I'm currently reinstalling all the previous Horizons to play in the run up to Horizon 5...funnily enough it was you video about the problem with racing games and your Horizon 1 playthrough (looking forward to you continuing that) that made me start to replay them all

Interesting watching this after 5 came out. I have played every horizon game and I agree with your points. Another thing that was sorely lacking in 4 was the sound. It was just so flat. I could have ignored the rest but after 30 min I just couldn't play anymore. I like you idea about the houses having garages. It would be awesome if you could showcase a few of your builds for other users. The bigger the house, the more garage space you get.

Horizon 4 is my favorite game personally. It has the most cars, has the best graphics (although fh3 comes close), and horizon life is pretty cool too (when it works). This game does have some downsides though, such as the car sounds, lack of realistic tire smoke, no private lobbies, and the biggest one for me, no regular cars. No base level cars or trims of almost every car. Like driving around in a base model Mercedes a class would be sick, or a base model jetta or something. Also, your dedication to reading all the comments and replying to them while also putting out great quality content is great. You’ve earned yourself a sub, keep it up!

Forza Horizon 4 introduced me to the series and I loved it. After playing 3, 2 and finally the original. I can say the original was the most inspired, I found it surprising that most of the ideas were actually in the original. That games hasn't changed much.

Speaking of the car selection there is one group of cars I am still waiting for in the Horizon games and that is the Nissan Patrol, and I am talking about the majority of them, primarily the older ones such as the G60, MQ/MK, Gq and GU models. These cars in the real world are open to SO much customisation, I think they would fit right in with the Forza Horizon world. Me being Australian, I think it was a missed opportunity when Horizon 3 came out with no Patrols. Here in Australia there are 2 car rivalries, Holden vs Ford and Toyota Landcruser vs Nissan Patrol. I hope one day the Horizon games will finally the patrol to the roster

If you own VIP membership (now ultimate edition of the game on Steam) you'll get super wheelspin every week and double credit earnings. Now, I really want to have Fortune Island expansion but can't get it as a standalone DLC anymore because as of 25 June all DLC'S got delisted. I don't know if I want to spoil even more the already weak progression factor in the base game with buying the ultimate edition after watching your in depth review. I'm not sure to what extent the ultimate edition will spoil the progression factor as I'm new to the FH series.
    Thank you for your work!

I would consider myself more of n the hardcore side of the forza franchise, (I preordered the ultimate edition of both horizon 3 and 4 and follow lots of features Easter eggs and basically all news about the game) and to me horizon 2 was the best.
Objectively fh4 is without doubt the best, largest map, seasons, largest car list etc etc yet I don’t want to play the game. If I want to play a horizon game I’ll boot up fh2. Fh2 had a much better “feel” to it. I believe this is a a because of the colour pallet used and the focus on differentiating parts of the map without just separating the map into different biomes like they did in fh3. It also had fantastic car sounds which further built the immersion. Fh3-4 on the other hand tried to push too much into too small of a space. The map was covering too many areas at once so it felt like 4 smaller maps whereas fh4 felt empty because there wasn’t much interesting things around the map. I really think for fh4 they under represented the uk, the only reason I go back is to drive on British roads. Since fh3 the saturation has looked too high too, it makes the game look pretty for trailers but after a while it starts to feel cartoony and stops me getting properly immersed. Engine sounds are also another issue that break immersion, especially when the sounds from the same car in older games where better.
The story also under delivered, fh2 had an okay story and fh3 had… something, but fh4 had very little. In fh3 we had a race car pack and I think it would have been great for fh4 to have a track with multiple layouts so they could focus some of the story on maybe going from street racing to track racing? Or at least done something considering how large of a part motorsport is British car culture.
They’re my main issues compared to my older forza games but compared to other games forza has a horrible problem with the car list and progression. The car list is very high end oriented. This means that money has to come easily and that means the cars don’t feel special. Also the way forzathon works feels tedious rather than rewarding considering I can buy a faster car for basically peanuts in an instant. I would prefer a progression similarly to the map of gran turismo games, lots of cheap cars that can be quite easily bought but having really nice cars that are hard to get but feel amazingly rewarding once you do as well as making the challenge for cars legitimately hard, for instance the license tests,
In terms of where the franchise is going, I’m not exited. It seems like they’re going down the more unrealistic route like dirt 5. If I’m completely honest I probably won’t buy fh5 and if fh4 wasn’t in the uk I would probably have been disappointed with my purchase (I think the game was okay, for the two year normal forza schedule, but it got boring after that). Initially I was disappointed with Mexico because it felt like the sections of the map I didn’t like from fh3 but I guess it’s good in a way. I probably won’t buy the game and hopefully by the forza goes to a great location (aka:Japan) they’ll have improved the problems the current games have.
This was cut short since I could probably write a short novel on my issues with the forza games and I’m not even getting into the boring “always online” system or such. Hopefully you understand what I’m saying because it’s 1:30am at the time of writing and I probably don’t make much sense at this point.

When It comes to lego I'm neutral about the expansion but it have more negative then positives
    Pros:
    • It was divers then the main island
    • It had you build up to an end event in a very weird kinda way
    • had side objectives that can help get 100% on Lego Valley
    • have a race track
    Cons:
    • race track was locked behind a pay wall
    • had only 3 cars in the pack
    • barn find didn't come at launch and had to wait I think half or three quarters of the year to get the barn find
    • added a new lego car that should've been in since day one
    • to much of a grind feel to it, like it wants you to just hurry up and leave the island
    • once your done your done, the only things you can do after completing the main section of Lego Valley is to either cruise around or do seasonal events that if I'm sure doesn't count to the Main Island seasonal events

I agree with every single point you made. I've played the game for around 500 hours and I genuinely consider it one of my top favorite games. But when I'm playing with my friends who are new to the game they have to play for a few hours before we can play any race and that's really annoying for them. Most of the time we played custom races with specific cars that we would use which was awesome and the fact that I have most of the cars is just plain convenient. So to put it simply I think you should be able to chose to either progress through a story or just play random races with your friends freely.
Thought as I said FH4 is a near 10/10 for me and I think FH5 could be the one that's just all round perfect.
Luv your videos man! Keep em coming 🙏

As someone who only really got into Forza Horizon when 5 released I now find FH4 to be the "comfy" FH game. It's pretty similar to FH5 so getting into it was easy for me, and whilst I agree with the directionless-ness, I do really enjoy the athmosphere, the seasons, which visually change things a lot, and the music - Hospital records especially has such a nice, pleasing playlist. That being said I first bought FH4 2+ years ago, but couldn't get into it somehow. I think getting so many pointless things on wheelsspins and winter were the main culprit. These days, I enjoy winter and summer a lot, and find spring and autumn more annoying since it seems to always rain.
However I also got FH3 back then, saw beautiful Australia, and got frustrated because I found FH3 much more appealing, but figured it's a dead game. These days, I'd say FH5 feels best to drive and Mexico is wonderfully colorful and diverse, FH4 is just a very comfy, beautiful place, and FH3 has quite different physics and the most striking map. It also has a more realistic look and feel to it, somehow. Currently trying to get my hands on FH1 and FH2 to check them out. Great channel and video, by the way - you definitely deserve more views and subs!

Yeah I agree with all of this, the game definitely feels kind of stagnant especially after you already get most of the cars you want. I remember when I first got my hands on the game that I was so excited about all the features, but after spending about 30 minutes in one of the Horizon stories I realized it was just work for no real sense of progression or reward. After that I never really went back to any of the Horizon stories because the game didn't motivate me to do them. The lack of motivation this game gives sort of killed it for me. It seems that the only reason I'm playing this game now is for the new cars every week and the occasional race here and there just to enjoy driving around. I hope this didn't come off as me hating the game because I don't in fact FH4 is the only horizon game that I got right when it launched and the game that I bye far spend the most hours in but yeah this video covers everything I feel about the game.

when i started fh4 7 months ago, i had tons of gifted money and wheelspin (from Forza rewards website) and lots of gifted cars and stuff. it was like I'm playing someone else's used account.
but there's not much complain about it cause i played the game nearly 2 years after launch; fortunately fh5 wouldn't be like this.
one of the worst things was treasure map that will prevent you from lots of exploring around the map for finding boards and barn finds.
and one of the best things was reward cars from leveling up in different series.
by far the feature that i really really missed was championships (not just 3 championships every week in fh4) i personally like to use a different car for each race for example 3 different cars for every championship in fh3 or every seasonal championship in fh4
i drove almost every car in fh3 becase races and championships had a certain car type and class and forced you to drive different cars; on the other hand, i completed all of lego and fortune island dirt and cross country races with a single car (hoonigan rs200)

Yet another solid video mate! The main thing that put me off this game pretty early on is that the map got boring (not big enough and too similar feeling), as well as the photo mode and video editor again not changing. Photo mode should allow for change in weather and time of day. The video editor currently is alright but hasn’t changed in years, only allows for 30 seconds of usable footage and doesn’t even work online (only in horizon solo)??? We need something like TC2 with 10 minutes of online usable footage, 4 full presets (action/landscape/vehicle/in-game) and fully customisable playback features (slomos/follow another driver). Currently in horizon, montages look very similar and boring. This would help with variety, more creative videos with multiple drivers in them and increase the game’s lifespan!

Forza Horizon 4 was my first Horizon game and what I wanted out of it changed as I played it. First was just the UK map to drive around on; then it became the races and finally it became getting all the cars. I agree with the map now feeling stale but I put that down to the length the game has been added to and updated; to be honest I am glad that the last car will be released next Thursday and then I don't have to go back to it again for a while, not because I don't love it but purely because I've played it every week for the last two and a half years, I want a break lol.
I love the seasons even including winter and love Fortune Island but the Lego never really grabbed me. Multiplayer for me was hit and miss usually down to servers. The Eliminator was fun as well and I liked that they chopped and changed the cars around. The seasonal event I found to become a chore especially near the end just to get the new cars; it just felt like going through the motions half the time. Overall I love this game and I will always come back to it and I will buy FH5 when it comes out though i am not sure if I will play it to the way I have played 4.

If you dont want to spend your 20m and lots of time to try to snipe one, you can try doing the star cards for it. FH4 had sooo much potential... it's a shame they got lost with the houses thing + lack of progression/single player career motivation + OP wheelspins + empty map (as in: 90% of the map does not feel like it hosts a automotive festival, more if it weren't for the main festival at the center)...
The horizon festival should feel like a dream place and event, one that you prepare yourself to visit (and that you feel proud of entering and participating because of the effort you've put in, like Horizon 1's story tells) ... not one that you go just to check it out, then buy a house nearby to live a normal life... IMO they went in a really strange tangent in FH4...
However the multiplayer modes are fantastic, graphics are jaw-dropping, car variety and quality is insanely good, handling and feeling are so fun... and some of the car engine sounds are so off it's hard to accept the downgrade.
As a simulation and single-player games fan, overall 8/10.

A popular trend in gaming journalism is the obsession with the "purpose" or "motivation" behind doing activities in games (read: end game). If the purpose or motivation is lacking, people consider it a grind. While I understand this to a degree, it needs to be said, the grind of any game really is the point of the game. So if you don't like the grind, you don't really like the game. For instance, people who don't like and play racing games will say, "All you do in that game is drive cars around." Or people who don't like looter shooters will say, "All you do is run around shooting people."
You can minimize any game to its fundamental play style. The "purpose" and "motivation" is all really just a skin for the real purpose of a game: the fundamental play style. The point of Forza is to race and drive, not progression. People care WAY too much about progression and end game. The point is to enjoy cars and drive them around. I think Forza 4 is the best sandbox game where you can jump in and do tons of different things. Nuff said.

My pros and cons Forza horizon 4(if anyone cares). Pros the graphics was amazing when the game was released and are still great to this day. the weekly chalenge thing are also great in its ways, the problem with it is that if you leave the game for a week or more you can miss a supercool car, BUT the cars are free and the chalenges are the only thing that makes me do races but that is also a problem. there is (basically)none singleplayer progression the only progression is the challenges.
The multiplayer freeroam experience is amazing EXEPT if the servers isnt working(wich hapends) but if you have some friends you can do some fun crazy shit for example me and my friends played hide and seek with minimap turned of and also (its called something else. i think) show player name, so we showed our cars so we knew what everyone looked like and decided to only be in Edinburgh and i pretended to be an AI and it worked for a long time(seeker had to bumb in to the hiders to catch them).
But i think that it is still a respectable good game and that we are probably just realy exited for horizon 5 athleast that makes me not realy wanting to play horizon4 idk.
Oh i forgot a HUGE con why is there dlc cars!? its littarly stuipid you have to pay about 60 usd (that is about 500sek and thats what i payed here in sweeden). and its just anoying spending almost the same amount on an deluxe add on to the game(or buying it deluxe from the beggining for the same price).

I'm a first-timer in the FH series, actually just purchased FH4 about a month ago. I bought it to scratch the itch I had for a TDU3 but man.... I played TDU2 back in the day, didn't get very far but saved up enough to buy a few cars that I like, and a few houses on the islands. I expected FH4 to be similar in terms of greatness but I mean, while the graphics are modern which I liked, the progression department is absolutely a mess. Some people bashed it for lack of story, I could even give it a break for that because free-roam games are meant to be story-lite. I could live with that. But why keep giving me free cars? I picked the Audi to start the game, second race sent me to off-road and I picked the Sabaru, fully thinking it's a borrowed car but NOOO, it's mine now for no reason. And then barely a few hours into the game there's a pop-up message saying my garage received a Lambo. WHYYYYY? What's the point of joining the races and earning everything? There's already no story, what is there to work for?
I really, really, REALLY hope they fix that. Force us to compete with crap cars in the beginning, work, save and buy our way up. FH4 progression model is definitely not how a game should do it.

I would have to say I am not a fan of certain cars being only available during the forzathon events, and then they are gone. Because some people, like myself, love playing the game, collecting and racing our favorite cars, but have commitments, like work, in the real world. Because of that we are not able to get those certain cars. For me, it happened in Horizon 5, after all these years they finally added the Nissan Patrol (Safari) into horizon, but the only way to get it was completing the forzathon events, but I was unable to put the time in to get it because I had work. It was a massive kick in the guts, that one of the few cars I have been waiting so long for them to add to horizon, was added with a time-gated window where you had to complete challenges and races in that week, and when the week is over, goodbye forever, and I think it could be handled better. With the Safari in particular it is pretty much impossible to buy it from the auction house,, and none of the car packs have it.
That's why I'm not a fan of unlocking cars this ways, if you could choose from a range of cars you missed in previous weeks, that would be a simple easy fix to this problem, at least then if there is a car you want but dont have the time to complete the challenges on said week, you could then choose it in a future week when you have the time to do the challenges.

Does it really matter if a new player gets 15 supercars in the first few hours or not? It just gives you the freedom to play the game the way you like, some people don't want to drive supercars early on, some people don't want to drive any other type of car. My question here is: Does the game really need to give you a purpose or are you able to figure it out yourself while the game simply enables you to do whatever you want?

It does for me definitely. I got something like 12 gift cars, and 25 super wheel spins when I started the game a few months ago, basically got every interesting car I wanted to drive. Honestly I had no push, no drive to play the game until a couple of my buddy's tried it out of game pass. Otherwise, I will wouldn't be playing it

Yeah progression don't really matter to me either. I would prefer more progression but the game is fine without it. I like finding different ways to enjoy the game. I'm an intrinsically motivated player most of the time. But it's kinda hard to have fun in single player as the event creaters, balancing, and ai are somewhat lackluster. Although the livery creater and photo modes accomplish their goals very nicely even though they could be improved and are not perfect.
Also the soundtrack kinda bores me and that doesn't help the game. In forza horizon 2 the soundtrack makes me want to drive, and drive really fast. I don't get that sense of energy in horizon 4. Music taste is very subjective and I don't get too upset if I don't like the soundtrack I could just turn it off. Hopefully In the next game you could choose which songs play on the radio like in burnout paradise.
I'm fine with no progression just give us more ways to create, better balancing and ai, and more ways to play the game.

To me it does. Like I said countless times in this video it’s all up to personal preference. EARNING supercars is so much more satisfying than having the game give them to you for nothing. But that’s just my 2 cents

Horizon 4 was a lot of fun at the beginning. At some point, however, it lost its edge. The fact that it had a longer life cycle (3 years instead of the previous 2) didn't make things any better. The seasons were a great novelty at the beginning. But they were also very annoying at times when you just wanted to drive in peace. Apart from winter, they didn't really have any influence on the gameplay.
At the time, I thought that they had brought quite a few good new features that would definitely make the next game better. And then came Horizon 5...

This was a great video! I really hated the playground games ranking system! It is such an issue that fh5 needs to fix and they are aware of the issue thank god! It's bad when you can keep track of your own ranking better than the game itself can! Also I feel like the seasons feature had more potential than it was shown in Horizon 4. It wasn't executed quite right.

  • @TheJayden3977
    @TheJayden3977 3 года назад

I love all your videos thank you!
For me personally Forza Horizon 4 was a probably by far the game I enjoyed the least and the weakest so far.
As you have touched on I hated how there was no sense of direction or progression in single player. I don’t like getting everything handed to me and it just makes me lose interest very quickly. I can go back and play Horizon 1 single player all the time because I love how you start out with a slow car and work your way up. Horizon 4 didn’t have any of this. Here is the cover car within the first half an hour. Felt like racing for the sake of racing rather than racing to achieve something.
Also I wasn’t a huge fan of the multiplayer in this game either. The first 7 months of online adventure wasn’t even playable. It was all team based with no class or race choice. They did fix it and make it heaps better, but still very flawed. I think it’s because adventure modes have been so repetitive since Horizon 2 and with 4 it’s more of the same. I will say battle Royale was a nice touch and I probably had the most fun in that game mode, but competitive online just wasn’t there.
I will disagree about Fortune Island. To me it felt like a repeat of FH3 single player. Just exploring events. The chests were nice but in terms of racing it didn’t really add anything new. I wouldn’t say it’s the worst expansion but it’s far from the best. I think it doesn’t even come close to Blizzard Mountain or Hotwheels in FH3. Also I hated how there was no online adventure here like in the FH3 expansions. Just another step backwards. Lego was the worst. I gave up after 20 mins. I just couldn’t find the motivation to do it. Same reason just repetitive gameplay.
I also didn’t like the atmosphere of the game or the clothes/emotes aspect. It just made the game feel like a character customiser made for 8 year old kids. Although the car list was probably the best in any horizon game I didn’t like how claustrophobic the PI system is. Back in Horizon 1 for instance the Pagani Zonda R was R1 and the Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster was R3, yet in 4 they are both S2. It made so many more cars useless for competitive online.
I also found the map bland. I wouldn’t say it’s bad but it doesn’t compare to the previous 3. The roads were very repetitive and there wasn’t much in terms of scenery variety. The seasons did help this somewhat but it didn’t change the road layout.
I will give credit where credit is due. The constant free cars and the eliminator were nice additions and I loved the constant support for the game. Despite the PI system I also do love the car list and the graphics are beautiful but for me personally there are too many nitpicks I have with this game that outshines the positive. I think the game 1 year after it’s release is what it should have been at launch (it was very broken back then).
I just hope FH5 doesn’t suffer from the same factors that holds FH4 back. On its own FH4 is an decent game but compared to its predecessors it just doesn’t hold up. Horizon 1 for me is still the crown of the series with 2 and 3 as solid sequels (though I don’t think they are as good as 1). 4 was 1 step foward 10 steps back.

I actually loved the map. sure, it's not as diverse as the other games, but I like it much more than Australia, which I feel was a bit more boring, driving on it just didn't feel that fun... for example Edinburgh is an incredible and complex city compared to Surfer's Paradise, there's more elevation, two levels, some great tight roads... I can't think of a fun road I'd like to drive through in FH3 but I can think of many in FH4, or even FH1 and 2.
I also think this was the most realistic map they've made, they sacrificed variety for realism and made it a very believable place, that doesn't feel too crammed. it's not as jarring as FH3 where you have a desert, a jungle and a coast so close together. it's nice too but it can take you out of the game if you think about it. I hope FH5 has smooth transitions between it's zones

Horizon 4 is not a bad game by any means. It’s one of the best when compared to the competition. I agree with most of what was said in the video and I only aim to add to what was said.
One of my main issues with horizon 4 is an apparent lack of “polish”. Don’t get me wrong, it’s far better than the competition and a far cry from what it was at launch but it still has some issues. Whether it’s car parts clipping into the ground or just random glitches here and there, the issues severely detract from the overall experience.
Another issue I have has to do with the map. Yes, it’s beautiful. Edinburgh is, until now, my favorite city in the series. My main issue is a lack of diversity. It’s always the same farmlands, hills and trees. Horizon 3’s Australia had deserts, mountains, rainforests and many more. It’s why I’m so excited for horizon 5. The bridges north of Edinburgh were also a massive missed opportunity. They could’ve been the straight strips of tarmac that we wanted. They don’t need to lead anywhere. They could’ve closed the ends of the bridges with barriers or even do like Microsoft’s previous Midtown Madness 2 and have a tunnel that goes around in a loop and brings you back.
The part where horizon 4 is more consumer-friendly, that I agree with. They added car packs worth of cars for free, even if at the expense of car sounds. They also removed tokens which I don’t see mentioned a lot in the community.
The music in horizon 4 is not that bad. Horizon XS and Hospital Records are my favorite stations. I just hoped that we could add our own music like in horizon 3. Maybe through OneDrive instead of the now defunct Groove Music.
If you read all of this, then thank you and I hope that we continue the discussion :)

I love FH4 and have dumped hundreds of hours into it. But I like a competitive element AND playing with friends.
That's where I land on my single biggest gripe with the game: Almost every team ranked adventure is literally pointless. League points are almost never added your rank because too many players leave mid-game. Are they fixing it in Horizon 5?

Interesting video. Forza Horizon 4 is my first Forza game. I am enjoying it. I recently got it on game pass. For years I was only on PlayStation so I was never exposed to the Forza series until a few weeks ago when I gave game pass a try after seeing the Xbox E3 event. I like what I saw with Horizon 5 and a friend recommended I check out Forza Horizon 4. I agree I would like more incentive to race like older games where you start with a basic car and by the end you have most of the cars. With this game but the time I got to hour 4 or so I had a Koenigsegg CCX that I won from a wheel spin and I was gifted a Senna from my messages. It was cool getting the Senna early but now I have it. So now what? I have about 30 hours in it or so and I am still enjoying it but I can see your points about the game and this is my first exposure to the Horizon series.

This game made me dislike multiplayer as a whole in all games tbh thanks to the community, but the game still has some greatness in it but the progression as you said like wheelspins kinda makes a down fall in the game, the single player atmosphere in the game doesn't feel like much going on as terms of progression.

The playlists themselves can be a bit cheap and I always thought that the Horizon Stories were just there to pad the games' length and a waste of time to boot. It just felt the game was just thrown together without any cohesion, similar to Forza 7. Funny how fixed release schedules work.
