I'm 2 yrs 8 months in. I'm grateful to the sisters before me who prepared me for all these things. Women of RUclips have been instrumental in my journey. From starting my locs , etc. Keep bringing the truth. I'm excited for my 3 year
Hello Beauty!! First off congrats on your journey! You are Loc’d in fr! I love it!🖤 Yeeeeeesssss, RUclips is so very awesome for learning and discovering etc. I def wanted to jump in the ring and throw my two cents in! Lol. Congrats on your journey! Thanks for sharing and thank you for watching! 🖤
I’ve never wanted locs but after being natural for 18 years I discovered microlocs & sister locs. I’m doing my research and this video by far was one of the better videos explaining your journey. I’m pretty excited to get started. I decided to get microlocs over sister locs. Getting my consultation and then schedule my appointment for my locs. I’m glad you pointed out that your hair journey is going to be different from others. I didn’t realize this when I went natural so now I know better since being natural for so long. Having long and thick hair makes me even more excited to see what my hair will do throughout the loc process.
Hello beauty!! Awe yay!! I’m so glad this could help you! I’m so excited for you as Locs are life changing to me. They are going to look awesome on you! Be good to them and they will be even better to you! Come back and say hi when you get them! Thanks for watching! 🖤 P.S. yes! Your journey will be totally different from anyone else’s just shared experiences here n there so try not to compare and just enjoy your journey! 🩷
Hi, I was laughing after listening to you talking about lint!😆 I've had dreadlocks for over 30 years they are a lint magnet. My dreadlocks are down to my butt! They would be longer, but I don't like sitting on my hair. I have to lay my hair across my lap when I'm driving. I also don't want it in the toilet! Something people don't think about having long hair before having really long hair. I have to trim my dreadlocks every 2 to 3 months. You will also start to find when you start finding random grey hair that you think it is lint. Don't pull them!!!! A friend told me to start using Clairol semi permanent, advanced grey hair color rinse. Which works great on dreadlocks. Also, I have a huge problem with people wanting to touch my hair though both black ,white whatever it doesn't matter what nationality they are they want their booty scratching nose, picking hands in my hair and I have to dive bomb them!!! They also want to pull my hair!!!! Tell me it isn't real and it's not my hair. My sister even piped up one time and yelled at somebody for saying it is in my hair and she yelled yes it is, I'm her sister! Even my dad yelled at somebody for saying that to me. What's even funnier about this is I'm black and was adopted by white family in the 70s by hippies. I even had to punch a guy in a bar for doing it. He almost pull me backwards onto the ground as I walked by!!!! His fault for not knowing I have my brown belt in Martial arts. He flew backwards off his feet across the bar and broke the bathroom door! 🤣🤣 From one punch from me, and I at the time was almost 50 years old ( I don't look my age either) They know me well at the bar, and the bartender, who knows me still tells that story to customers to this day! 🤣🤣 He told me that if he ever sees anybody's feet flying through the air, he knows that they touch my hair. Then says (THEIR FAULT!! ) I have a lot of great stories about my hair and my journey. I started mine back in the 90s very few people really had them. I have so many stories to tell...... One huge suggestion is, do not re-twist your hair that often that will break your hair. And also don't spray your hair with water only. Use oil water if you're going to do it at all. And also do not wash your hair every single day and you don't have to wash it and re-twisted every time you wash it you're overworking your hair. Over styling it also will damage your hair in the long run. Loctician like to overcharge, and will cut your hair and not tell you and the ones where I live when I would just go for a re-twist in a wash, want to charge me on the length of my hair, which is BS! They wanted to charge me over $150 to wash my hair and this was over 10 years ago now. And my dreads are more Freeform. I'm very thin and fine and soft baby hair, but I have a lot of it. So I don't do a lot to my hair. I wash it and put oil on my hands and rub it through my hair and I'm done. I let my hair air dry. I had to stop going to that shop and they were the ones that started my dreadlocks and also damaged them on purpose! All I have to say, is jealousy. I do my own hair now. I do not trust anyone to touch my hair not even my mother sometimes. She even tried to cut it! People get jealous of dreadlocks, and will try to ruin yours. DON'T FORGET THAT!! Ultimately, you are going to want to learn how to do your own hair or have a close family friend learn how to do it for you.
WOW and hello beauty! Thanks so much for chiming in as a Loc OG that’s been in the game and knows some stuff lol! Love it! Honey that lent is my crop tonight! You are so right about length I can picture that clearly! Can def see how that could be a hassle after a while. I wonder if that’s why I keep seeing ladies cut theirs?! Jealousy is def a real thing! People really are a trip! Thank you so much for sharing again and I’m so tickled at kicking that man that pulled your hair bet he won’t do it again lol. Thanks for watching and gif weighing in! 🖤
Awe Thanks so much Joann!! It’s a tough choice sis, they are both so pretty and have their own benefits! You can’t go wrong either way but doing your research as you are will ensure you are happy in the end! Thanks so much for watching 🖤
@@chefkim07 😂😂😂 lmbo ikr!! Ol school saying fr fr lol. I’m in the south in the country so we def say all those ol school words and sayings😜. Number 5 is the one for me, I recently discovered sisterlocs and I’ve been obsessed with them ever since and I’ve been researching but a lot of people have negative comments from the get go, a lot of family members saying you’ll miss your hair soon don’t do it blah blah blah so I completely felt number five
Hey there!!! Let me tell you don’t let anyone discourage you! You just need to make up In your mind that you want them and are going to commit to it. It’s nobody’s here, but yours! This has been the most freaking thing I’ve ever done, and honestly if I could go back in time, I probably would’ve done it in early College! I had no idea about them! You just decide what you want for your life and go with it! I don’t miss my hair at all and everywhere I go I’m getting compliments that let me know it was all worth it! Guess what?! Now tons of people I know are copying me😝! Thanks for watching beauty! 🖤
Tiffany these tips have been so helpful. I'm 6 months in straight from relaxer, and I've been seeing others with beautiful heads of hair, then looking at mine like... Uuuuh. Wtf did I do to myself? SO many of these are my struggle. Thank you for posting.
Helllooo Beauty!! Well I’m so glad you found me!!!! Don’t you dare give up! Just trust the process! You made me laugh😂 been there sis but I knew my head had a plan! I’m going to link my visual journey album so you can see where I came from! You got this! Just hang in there! Do some scarves and braid outs until you get comfortable enough to cut off your ends! Hello!! Awe Yay!!!! I’m so glad you found me as well and I’m always glad anytime my videos help someone in the way I needed before I started! I’m super excited for you!! You will love them! Thanks so much!! My Locs are coming along! Much luck on your journey and thanks so much for watching! 🖤

Hello Beauty!🖤 Thanks for joining and welcome to the the Loc’d side honey! It’s nice and cool over here!!😝 Thanks for the support and I’m so happy to walk with you on your journey. Feel free to ask anything. You made it through the hardest part sis! Thanks for watching 🖤
It’s tip #8 for me sis!!!! Thank you so much for your transparency. Your video is one of the best I’ve seen so far. I’m two days in and I’m so excited for every stage. Informed videos like yours will prepare me for future stages. You look absolutely beautiful sis and thank you!
Hey Beauty hey!!! Come on two days Loc’d yeeeessss!!! Welcome to the Loc’d side sis! So happy for you! You are going to love it and wonder why you didn’t do it sooner ! Yes #8 is the reason for the season honey! That Freedom is literally everything! I actually get mad at myself for forgetting to try new styles cause I feel so free of expectation! I’m so glad you liked the video and got something out of it! Thanks so much on the compliment and thanks for watching! 🖤Congrats again 🎉
New sub! Be prepared to pay more when you have longer hair! I was a longer loose natural 10-12. Some were 8 inches. Because I had a layered heart curly cut. I got microlocs instead of sisterlocks. Because of the price. For sisterlocks, I was quoted $1200. I paid $900. A sisterlock consultant did my install and does my reties. I refuse to do them myself. 😂 Oh and I looked like a plucked chicken too in the beginning! Wearing scarfs and headbands! I love how they look like shingled wash and go. Never going back!
Weeeelll hello New Journey Fam sis! ❤️ thank you for putting the updated quoted prices for all to see because I am not really sure what the prices are looking like now. Yes I do know the longer they are the more money you pay and also the longer amount of time it takes to get them done! One of those moments when I was glad I didn’t have much hair lol I got the bare bottom price. Girl I feel you on the retie!😂 If I didn’t have my daughter I would be going as well! Scarves were saving Grace! Thanks a million for subscribing and watching! See you in the next video! 🖤
@@JourneywithTiffany Sis! That $900 was tough to turn ova!! I just made 1 year last week! I did have a setback at 9 months. I needed repairs when my hair bunched up after a color rinse at 7 months and then an allergic reaction to lemongrass in some oil I bought. Had no idea I was allergic to it. So I washed my hair without braiding and banding to get it all out. So she had to stretch the locs back out. It was 2 sess. $150. My reties are $80. I reside in Kansas City, Ks for reference for the girls researching. I’m loving your beautiful sisterlocks and how informative your vlogs are! Thank you! 🖤
@@naturalhoney yes she does! She says she’s not ready yet but she does. I’m glad she’s not ready because her hair is almost to her butt a d it’s th th th th thick and it’s going to cost a fortune!! 😝 She’ll be able to pay that herself lol
@@naturalhoney ooohhhh nooo!! I’m so sorry that happened to you sis! 🤦🏾♀️ugggh I know that was frustrating! That’s ok it’s fixed now and now you know the braid and band is so Crutial that first year to year in a half unfortunately. They will bunch quick! It’s also crazy how we can find allergies later in life isn’t it?! Like where was this all these years lol. Thank you for giving out your info and for watching I appreciate you and the compliments 🖤
Hi Tiffany thanks for sharing your journey. I will be 2 years locked on 5 February 2024. It's only as I look back at my sisterlocks within the first year, I realized how awful my hair looked. Now when I get compliments, my mother says if they had seen itshortl😢after you had just got it locked it was scanty. I have low density fine hair. You really have to trust the journey
Hey there!!! Awe mama 😂😝 don’t do her like that lol. Anyhow, it doesn’t matter how it used to look it matters how the journey turned out. Most of our beginning journeys were not the cutest, but that is customary and then it blooms into what it’s truly going to be. Family definitely always have their negative opinions and it doesn’t always feel good, but ignore them because later you will be the queen that everybody is talking about! So happy for your journey and glad that is turning out awesome for you. Keep going and take lots of pictures. Thanks for watching.🖤
Hello Beauty!! Awe 🫶🏾🫶🏾 thank you so very much! What a great compliment!!! I appreciate it so much and I’m so glad you found value in it! Thanks for watching 🖤
I needed to hear this. The struggle is real, but you made me LOL. All of the negative comments are real. Even my sister! But I am re-learning how to love me in my natural state. Your hair is beautiful!!!
Hello Beauty! Good morning. Girl yes the struggle is so real at first and sometimes but so worth it later. The negativity is thick at first then later everyone wants to copy 😝 so don’t even let it get to you! My sister was the first to make me feel stupid but I knew my end goal. Stay focused. You got this and thank you so much for the compliment, much appreciated. 🖤 Thanks so much for watching.
Great information, just so people know though, just because you start with extentions doesn't mean you bypass the journey. I'm a certified loctician and I can't tell you how many conversations I've had to have with clients about this subject. So much so I'm writing an ebook about them lol. You'll have a journey just different from the traditional. They're both great and the best part is you get to choose. Beautiful locs Queen.
Hey beauty!! For me the “Journey” was… The excitement of finally getting the installation The fear of the sparse chicken look but also happiness of starting Then the surprise of starting to see them form what really truly looks like a loc Then finally, seeing some Hangtime, and being able to shake them around and laugh at yourself Seeing them reach, milestones such as your ears, then your neck, then your shoulder Finally being able to pull them up into a ponytail Measuring them against your bra strap as they grow out Etc….. For, and to me (just my opinion), there is no journey if it’s already done!! To me, the journey is all about going through the uncomfortable stages, the ugly stages you want to hide, the days of wanting to cut it off because it doesn’t look perfect, the joy of seeing the growth all on your own and feeling proud of what I’ve grown out of your scalp that you might’ve felt like could never be! I could keep going! To me Insta Locs just feels like braids, and they actually do skip the actual journey. Thank you beauty for weighing in and thanks so much for watching!! 🖤
@JourneywithTiffany I get what you're saying and believe it not, a lot of people don't start with long extensions and instantlocs are a different journey also. If a predominantly comes in with only 5 inches of hair, they definitely have some of the same issues as traditional locs. They all have to still go through the budding, waiting for the "hang time." The days of not feeling pulled together, etc. The best part of it all is that we have choices. I'm personally about to take mine down and start my micro locs journey.
This was great. My microloc journey begins at the end of the month and I’m so excited. Most useful was the lint 😮. Which will be my 4c story and the first year of disgust. I will be patient thank you beautiful
Yay!!! I’m so excited for you beauty! Yep watch out for lint! I have a night Loc video where I talk about what I used and should’ve been using. Watch out for things that can get stuck in there! Much luck! Thanks so much for the compliment and thanks for watching! 🖤
@@ciaraadothor1839 Welcome back to the Loc’d side sis! It’s so Many people needing info and I’m so glad more ladies are making videos on loc info now!! Thanks so much for watching!🖤
Thank you so much I'm 16 and about to get my hair sisterlocked I had my consultation and I have an appointment scheduled and I'm doing some research to make sure that I know that I know that I know that I know that I know that I know lol this is not an era I'm saying it over and over again that I know that I know that I know that I want sisterlocks
Hello there beauty! So I had to laugh at this cause I feel you lol you are Tryna make doubly sure it’s what you want and there is nothing wrong with that!!! 😝 I think it’s super smart to do! There are so many types of Locs that’s it’s smart to 1. Think of are locks something I can truly commit to first of all and then 2. make sure you are getting the style you truly want and can keep for a lifetime! I hope this helps you some! Def check out my other Loc vids! Thanks for watching 🖤
Hello Beauty! You are so very welcome! Research is the key and way to go. That way you are more prepared so great job on doing that for yourself. You are going to love it! Thanks for watching and supporting🖤
Thank you so much for this video. I'm 2 1/2 months in with knotless braids, and I'm really considering loc's. I don't want to get another relaxer, but I don't want to do the big chop either. There's so much that i don't know about loc's or the different types. Your sister loc's are pretty and I would love those. But I'm still learning and researching. Thanks again for all your info. ❤
Hello there beauty! Well let me start with you are doing the right thing and that is doing your homework! It’s not permanent, but it should be a commitment, so you definitely want to make sure that you are ready when you get them! It takes a lot of time and patience, but is well worth the freedom that it gives you and the compliments that you will get! Continue to do your research because there’s so many different types of locks as well and when you have no doubts that you want them and there’s no more questions in your head, that is when you’re ready! I love to tell my story because it shows a different perspective of getting them. I didn’t do the big chop, and that’s a very different path but it worked. I make lots of videos and have a whole playlist so feel free to look around at what I have and I’ll be happy to answer any questions or thoughts! Thanks for watching.🖤
Thank you so much I’m 3 months in but locked already and loving my mocrolocs but yes there are days that I’m like omg this side looks good… and this one doesn’t! Also my ends are loose straight right now but top is locked so I’m trying to trust the process and not cut off the ends too fast. But as soon as I looked at the video I was saying how beautiful YOU and Your locs were so couldn’t believe that about self esteem 😢but kudos to you😅 bc you’re rocking it ALL lady…Gorgeous and I love your makeup!❤
Hey beauty heeey! Congrats on joining the Loc’d side!! As it grows out you will love it more than the frustrating days! As far as cutting off the ends, just listen to your body! I kept mine until I felt confident enough to cut them off, and I literally could feel the desire to cut it inside when I was sick and tired of it, but not until then! Even with the straight ends I still got plenty of compliments, so just make sure you are ready, and that’s all that matters. Thank you so very much for the compliments. I truly appreciate it. I’m definitely no make up guru, so that’s good to know that it looks pretty good lol!😝 thanks so much for watching and I’ll see you in the next video! Happy Mother’s Day if you have children! 🖤

@@Tyneesia-LifeJustKeepsLifein awe you are sweet! Thanks so much and yes ma’am I have 1 girl! 💕 Same to you as well! I hope my videos help you in some way! You got this! 🖤
I can relate to the 1st year drama, I'm still there. They are sticking out in every direction...lol It's still too short to put in a bun, so I've started using perm rods to give a curly look and curb the pointed ends, but this too shall pass 😊
Hello beauty! You tickled me with the sticking out everywhere lol. Yep that’s about right! I love your attitude towards it, though that’s the right way to think and it will get you past this awkward stage! I definitely used braid out and head wraps a lot during the stage. I would try to twist the front up in a cute way, and let the back be braided out, or I would buy head wraps and look at some interesting ways to wrap it and use those. Just continue to stay on your retie schedule and take care of your babies and in no time they will be hanging at least bob length where they’re not so awkward. You got this! Thanks so much for watching and I’ll see you in the next video!🖤
I didn’t realize either that you could start locks without fully growing out the relaxer. I’m still back and forth between sister and micro. Just saving as i research New subbie
Hello Beauty and a big Welcome to the Journey Fam! You are doing right by researching first! It’s sure to produce better outcomes everytime👍🏾. Yeeesss you can start from perm which came in clutch for me personally. Thanks for watching & don’t be a stranger. Much luck on your journey to be! 🖤
Hello Beauty! Thank you so much and I’m so glad you found me so you can sort of see how it might look/feel should you keep the permed ends. Do you think you will cut your ends off when or before you get Loc’d?
Thinking of locs. Loose natural and i just turned 62. Im in good health but its becoming too much to deal with now. Plan to do it in couple years.. luckily work in nyc (crown act) Got a truckload of products to get through. Teehee
Alright!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾yes DO IT!!! You won’t regret it! Don’t even worry about the products you can gift them to others that still need them! Don’t let that hold you up! Thanks so much for watching 🖤
They will!!! Trust me!!!! Trust the process fr fr!!! I never stop getting stopped and getting compliments even on my worst days In my mind! Stick with it friend 🖤
@@JourneywithTiffany Thank you friend! do you feel like you’re still learning about your hair and most importantly your scalp and what your scalp likes and what your scalp doesn’t like?
@@camara1194 ohhhhh yeessss everyday always! I still learned that my hair and head has tender spots! I learned that my hair does not like to be pulled together all the time it seems to start thinning out the locks! My scalp is very dry, so I’m constantly trying to figure out what keeps it moisturized And not flaky. I have very dry hair, so I definitely had to figure out the formula to making it light and bouncy! Also learning that different weather calls for different types of moisturization. Even when it’s fully locked, I think you constantly still learn about your hair🖤
@@JourneywithTiffanyYes! that’s amazing! Since my hair has been loc’d, later this week I’m going to go to a trichologist to get my scalp looked at under a microscope and see whether i have dry scalp or dandruff. (i learned they’re two separate things) so i can feed my scalp what it needs. A loctician i heard say “don’t worry about your hair because it’s dead. Worry about your scalp because it’s alive.”
🤔 Hey Sis, so hard to select the point that resonates the most with me. I can relate to them ALL! I would say 5, 6, 8, and 9 probably top of my list. I wish I had started my microlocs by interlocking or braidlocking my 14 inches of natural hair. I two strand twisted as my installation (October 2021) and by the 12 to 15 month mark, the bunching was so horrible that I just couldn't go on with that look. I just could not trust that process... and I could not comb out the locs or shave my head and start over. So I started two point interlocking at the roots. When the interlocked hair grew out about three inches, I clean cut off the bunchy ends (May 2023). I am much much happier NOW. So now I have two point rotation interlocs, they are finally getting a little length, and thickening up. In about two more years, you won't be able to tell me NUTHIN'!!
That bunching drove me wild as well! I had what they call a foot which is a thick party at the end of mine as well! I am slowly cutting those off! Both growing pains for sure! That bunching makes you want to throw in the towel! 😂😝 But look at you… you did a pivot and figured it out and kept moving! Yaaaassss honey you are going to be doing the thing soon! I’m sure they already look great! 🖤
Hello beauty! Honey, let me tell you this hair used to be long and thin as paper! 😂 If you watch my visual lock album on my playlist, and look at my hair before my locks without weave….my hair was very very thin! It is amazing what Locs has done for my hair! It is only because of having them that my hair has become thick and dense now like never before!!!! Thank you so much for the compliments and thank you as well for watching. 🖤
@@JourneywithTiffany My loctician told me she knows how to do it but hates doing it because it’s painful. She’s jabbed herself before. The crochet needle is very small, so it will draw 🩸 And maybe your loctician at the time didn’t feel like it was worth pain adding just a tip back on. Or her azz didn’t want to do it Which is messed up cause that’s what you wanted done. And maybe if it was a significantly longer loc, she would’ve done it. 🤷🏽♀️ idk. I’ve heard that the ones that do it often have callouses on their fingers.
@@naturalhoney sorry I missed this sis!! Thanks so much for this good info!!! It does make sense! Knowing her persona she def prob didn’t wanna do it! 😂😂sorry self! Totally makes sense though! I never knewed!!!
I have sisters locs. I’m a month in. I’m feeling like I should have gotten micro to have the brick pattern. I would have less scalp out and more fuller look. My hair is fine.
Hey there beauty! OK, so you are in a very very new stage! This is the stage that everybody hates and it’s going to be fine you just have to weather through! The sister lock locking pattern is the brick stacking pattern!!! I do a four-point rotation, so it is stacked four times which is the tightest rotation! This is just the stage I was talking about in the video lol😝 it’s a hard stage but look how full my hair is now! If you watch my visual Diary, you will see how much it has thickened up and you cannot see my scalp at all, unless I part it! I have always had very fine, long hair, but now it’s very thick and dense! You can do this! Just be patient. Keep in mind although you can’t tell lol fall and winter is coming. I utilized cute scarf, wraps, and hats until summer came around again, and I had some hang time and thickness. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!🖤
I have microlocs but my edges/front area is very thin so im very self conscious of pulling my hair back. But im trying to embrace it and just slick the edges and hope they grow back in thicker so I can have that confidence to put it up and my loctition can add more to that area. I have to have it up for work but thats the only issue I have. I dont mind the fuzzy hair or anything I enjoyed it. Im going on 10 months and even though I thought I have what most people think is "4C" my hair still unravels in the back and front. Its slowly locking and not as fast as many would think. I really havent had any negative comments, but some black women was looking at my hair funny. Even though its microlocs started with two strand twists. Now folks want to all of a sudden get them since they see what they are starting to lock and condense...🙄 Just a little annoying because do it because you want it not because you see someome else hair looking good. Im the only one at my job with them..and feel a certain type of way people want to copy. I work in law enforcement and was in the military and use to wear microbraids most of my military career. And ive had just about every type of hair never had an issues...best decision ever just wish i would have got them when my edges was full. But glad I have them.😁😊
Hello Beauty! I’m going to talk about what I use to grown my edges back in my video tomorrow! Try to grab it and use it every other day or so while keeping stress off the edges. It worked for me so it’s worth a try! I love two strand twists they are so cute! You are so right people should get these because they want then not based off of how good they look on another. This is def a process and what I’ve learned is when you get them to copy and not because you truly want them, they don’t keep them anyways lol. It end up being just a hairstyle for them instead of a long term thing! I’m so glad you have been able to have such a good response to hairstyles, it’s so rare and I’m glad times have changed! Thanks so much for sharing a piece of your story with me and everyone and thanks so much for watching! 🖤
Hello, I do have an update on my edges/hairline...and my loctician was able to add 24 new baby locs! So my edges have grown tremendously because there area had no hair in about 2-3" of the front hairline when I got them installed almost 2-years ago. So just seeing them makes me want to cry 😢 because it was that bad! I'm so happy I started using the system I decided this year because not only me but my loctician could not believe how it my edges have grown. 😊
Once it gets past the first year or two then it’s easier to see growth but everyone I know complains about it growing slowly when you first stay out. Depends on the type of hair and what length you start from most likely. Thanks for watching 🖤
Good morning Beauty! You are so welcome!!!! Yes ma’am I sure can! They are from the store Versona which is the sister store to Cato’s! If you don’t have that store, I’m sure they are online as well. I simply loooove getting my earrings from there! 💕 Thanks so much for watching and I hope to see you in the next video 🖤
Hey there Dri! Nothing wrong with that. You want your crown to be something that makes you feel good you know! Just take your time and think it over to make sure you still feel that way later and then if it’s still weighing heavily on you to do so… Do it! Do what’s going to make you happy. Thanks so much for watching 🖤
#5 hit home. Both mom and sister talking about why are u getting that done to your head? Your hair is gon fall out. I started w/ traditional locs and I combed them out to get microlocs and I want to color my hair done the first time. My mom is even tripping on me using L'Oréal hair dye and not using a black owned company. It's so f'kn annoying.
Lmbo yyyeeeessss family be the ones lol!! Smh 🤦🏾♀️ I learned overtime to do things first because I want to and let them see it last! That way I don’t get discouraged by their negativity or their opinions it’s already done and you can love it or don’t look at it lol😝 do what’s going to make you feel good, confident and happy! DO YOU… quietly! Then pop out n show em! Thanks so much for weighing in and of course for watching.🖤
Hello there! I’m not sure of exactly what you’re needing🤔. Are you wanting your curly ends to become straight? The only thing I can think of is if you don’t want curly ends, they won’t necessarily become straight, but if you are not combing them out, they will eventually lock up like the rest of the lock. People who have the curly ends only continue to have them because they maintain them to keep them, making sure they are combing them out and conditioning them to stay curly. I noticed with my curly ends, (I have a few left )most of them just turned into a locked sealed end. Does that answer your question at all? there is no other way to turn curly ends into straight ends. If not, feel free to rephrase and leave another comment. Thanks for watching, and I hope this helps a little.🖤
I think sisterlocs and microlocs are the best decision. I've been loc'd for almost 3 years on this set..My only issue right now is styling. I gotta watch some tutorials 😂😅 Your right! The first year does build character 😅 especially when you change your hair without telling people. I dry brush with a boar brush sometimes to get rid of lint.
Hey beauty! Thanks for sharing and yes I agree best decision EVER! Wish I had done it sooner! I know what you mean I don’t do alot of styles either! I have my go to styles but that’s bout it. In my head if I ever need a style style I’ll prob go get it done! I will be doing my go to styles soon. Def utilize Google and try to imitate the simple styles! Thanks so much for watching and yes honey that first year will make or break you but guess what, we WON! 🖤
Hey there beauty! No ma’am not at all! Even my install was not painful at all. Like I told another lady it’s all about the person you choose to install and how rough or heavy handed they are. I always warn that I’m tender headed so they don’t tear me up lol 😝. But no it didn’t hurt getting it done nor just having them! You almost forget they are there really. Ok hope that helps and if I missed answering what you needed ask again! Thanks for watching 🖤
Hi there! That video was in My Loc Playlist 🙂 but I will also put the video below! Thanks for watching 🖤 The COINS 💵 behind the Loc! Let’s talk about it! 💰2023💰 ruclips.net/video/uXPNQHEpjls/видео.html
Hello, my sister joined the sister loc family a few years ago and they are beautiful and so long. i myself have been wanting sister locs for so long but because of stress my hair broke off leaving a lot of split ends and i dont know how or where to begain. please help
Hey sis heeeey! 👋🏾 First Off thanks so very much! I truly appreciate the compliments! 🖤 Secondly don’t you dare let those split ends stop you from locking up!! I’m not super sure it makes a huge difference when Loc’d up as we are matting and manipulating our hair to form the Locs BUT I am an NOT a hairstylist or loctician so I would say if it bothers you get a little trim and go ahead and loc up! I Loc’d up and still had a whole perm on my head and at the ends for 2yrs!!! There is a Sisterlock website you can go to that can show you all the locticians in your area! I did a video on my loc playlist that I will link for you! If you are near Dallas or Houston they are literally everywhere and you would do your research and schedule a consult. I think ATL has quite a few as well! Ok let me go find this link! You got this!! Thanks for watching beauty!🖤 Ok watch this one👇🏾 ruclips.net/video/VJ46nubmq9w/видео.htmlsi=w_5mdWRBCvCcLeDl
I appreciate your video and your perspective. One thing that was confusing to me that you said was no "ethnic" hairstyles were allowed when you were a CO. What does ethnic mean? I'm not sure how that is defined. Is an afro ethnic? I'm not sure which styles are not considered ethnic.
15:45 is the part of the video that Explains in detail what I was referring to by Ethnic hairstyles. Generally Ethnic hairstyle refers to hairstyles originated by and specific to those of us that are black and not generally worn by other races. They forbid them in the jail because they deemed them unprofessional. Thanks for watching 🖤
@@JourneywithTiffany thank you for the response. I'm a 40 year old black man with locs, I work in IT. I can do all my work behind a computer so I didn't have the issues you did in your former career.
@@Sukuna1983 ahhhh ok got it! Lucky you lol 😝👍🏾, you get to be very unbothered! It was pretty odd squared away, we were shocked! It changed years later after much push back but initially it was a thing and if you know anything about working in a jail it’s HOT🔥and sweaty and we def needed the feeedom to do more with our hair. Thanks a million for watching and I’ll see you in the next vid! 👍🏾😊
@@JourneywithTiffany see you in the next vid. By my RUclips name you may surmise that I am a veteran. I know something about regulated hairstyles for work. The funny thing is black women and I guess in theory all women were allowed to have locs as a soldier. But funny you could do it as a CO. America still has a long way to go in regards to our hair styles being acceptable from the work place to even graduating high school. For some reason I have seen some high schools where you are allowed to attend with locs but can't walk for graduation for some arbitrary reason(racism)
Hello Beauty! Yea it def is where I am in a small town! Some people are lucky to get the right person the first try but it definitely can be difficult finding a person that’s going to be right for you and your hair etc. Lol I hate making the drive to Dallas to get my hair done for sure. I like to go more for leisure activities lol, traffic is so unpredictable there that going to get your hair done can be stressful coming from another city. Seems like the smaller the town the harder it is to find someone that is a good Loctician. Thanks for watching.🖤
Thank you so much for posting this video. I have always been a natural beauty. I have experimented a bit with perms and braids. Never did I ever think that I word consider locking my hair, but I have been struggling with my hair since I've moved to the UK among other things. Now I'm really thinking that locking my hair is going to make my life a lot easier. I came across your video as I am doing my research snd can u believe that my husband is the one with the negative comments already, and I haven't even start yet. Girl, I think I am about to get a divorce now 😂. Just playing, I think hes going to love it in the end, cause my head looks like a mop right now, serious. There is just one thing I am not too sure about and would like if you could elaborate if you can, that is point 1. You said you would have chosen a different process to lock your hair because of the financial investment the sister locks requires, which one would you do instead and why?
Hi there! So sorry for the late response!!! Girl he better get it together lol we have to do what we have to do shoots! I always said anyone who lived where black hair care isn’t really a thing or in the military etc should lock up! If I could do it over I would’ve probably gone with traditional Locs only because they can be maintained easier on your own if you can’t find someone to do them. I have had this question a lot and will do a video on it and try to tag you. So come back next week and check for it! All in all Locs are a great thing to do when struggling with your hair!! I love the freedom it provides and the still together look even when it’s not really together! Hope this helps! Look out for the video and tell him to pull his WHOLE life together cause we are cute out here in these streets okkkkk! 😝 Thanks for watching beauty! 🖤
Don’t worry, it will grow!!!!! It takes time and a lot of patience, and take a lot of pictures lol! Keep it hydrated, and before you know it, you will see the length! I have definitely learned it is not a fast process at all for most and takes years. Hang in there and thanks for watching.!🖤
Yeeesssss friend! That 1st year is not going to play games lol! It’s taking you through all the emotions but so worth it in the end! Thank you for watching ❤
You are so very welcome! I’m not a hairstylist at all but here’s the thing I’d it’s thinking is going to do so in any style you have so if you want Locs you can still get them. There is a whole Fb page for Locs on thin and thinning hair! Def join it so you can see and ask questions. Is the thinning hereditary or circumstantial? Def different things you can try if circumstantial. Thanks for watching 🖤
I’m a guy with brotherlocks ™️ (male sisterlocks) but Girl let me TELL YOU!!!!! there’s a guy at my job with traditional locks who i told him i was getting what’s called brotherlocks and he goes “did you give up?” i said “no they’re in my hair” and he goes “why yo hair straight?” i said “that’s my hair texture” (i have loose 3a wavy hair being biracial) and he goes “hmmm that’s yo texture. i think you should get them interlocked, that will make it grow faster.” 😐 i just got THEM two weeks in lol. Now it’s my first month. I will say white people LOVE my hair. But black people have been making negative comments about my hair since I’ve had this in my hair since I was growing up. Your hair is absolutely STELLAR!!
Hey there!!!! Congrats on joining the journey!!!!🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Listen don’t you EVEN pay them any attention okk! People are negative towards what they don’t understand but at the end of the day, it’s not for them to understand! It’s just for them to watch and see😝! Just keep taking care of your babies and doing what you’re supposed to be doing to foster them and when they mature, everybody will be asking you how you got it like that! People are so weird… like just keep your negative negative comments to yourself! I just don’t get it. I do know the rougher the hair texture, the easier it locks, but at the end of the day we all will Loc!! Some just takes longer than others. You got this and I’m encouraging you. Keep going and thanks so much on the compliment on mine! 🤍 They have grown out even longer now which you can see in more recent shorts or videos. Thanks so much for watching and commenting and again congrats on locking up it really is worth it in the end! 🖤
@@JourneywithTiffany YES!!! i agree wholeheartedly with everything you said!! love how you said it’s not for them to understand it’s for them to wait and see. OH WILL THAT PREACH!!!! yes!!!!!!!👏🏻 i throughly am like you ask things consisted. i have loved every single minute of it. The good, the bad, and the ugly of the whole thing. I love it!!! it’s the best thing ever
I’m starting mine from a perm too!! My hair is armpit length and is coming out bc of a diy dye job 🤧 but baby I ain’t starting over I worked hard for this length 😂😂
Lmbo honey I hear you!!!!!! 😝😝 Perfect time to lock up sis🔒! Things happen you know. 🤷🏽♀️ It was when mine started coming out, as I told in my Storytime other video from a botch sew in, that I was like okkkkk I’m done with all this! Locking it DOWN!!! 🙃Much luck on your journey sis!💪🏾 and thanks for watching 🖤
Hello beauty! That’s fair! We def figure out what we want as we go! I do think there is a lot of flexibility in having the smaller Locs they can just be tedious sometimes but I love them. Also, it’s easier to go from micro or sister locks and combine and get thicker as you desire versus going from traditional, the other direction. So I totally get it. I’m sure you look great regardless! Thanks for watching 🖤
Yea they never bothered me either. Thankfully!!! So I feel ya! I know that’s def NOT everyone’s story so was def trying to be careful to not say they never do. Cause you Neva know!!! Thanks for watching 🖤
I feel like the things I experienced didn’t really have anything to do with perm. Slippage, bunching, hard time, finding the right loctician, dry desert scalp from needing to keep it dry to lock, the awkward looking beginning stage, lint struggles and trying to find hairstyles etc are all things that a whole lot of people that do the big chop also struggle with. None of those are unique to someone with a perm start, thanks for watching
Hello Beauty! I can understand that because you aren’t/ weren’t use to seeing yourself that way!😝 However, I have seen several longer starts and they were instantly prettier in my opinion than the short sparse chicken look lol. Some of the ones I saw looked like they had Locs for years already. I hope you are enjoying your journey and thanks for watching. 🖤
Hey Selina!! I’m Not sure why RUclips never posted my response because I responded to you right after you messaged this, but I will respond again. So sorry about that. I’m usually on top of my comments. If I’m reading this right, you must have left out your curly ends and you’re wanting them to bud and not be curly right? Is that what you mean by wanting your ends to be straight, or are you referring to how I had my hair straight on the end and my video? I’m not sure which one you are wanting, but if you’re just not wanting the curly ends, if you leave them alone, don’t comb them out don’t mess with them at all….They will end up budding at the end and just turn into a sealed lock. If you were looking at how my hair was before my ends were sealed with the loose hair on the end, the reason it was like that was because I actually started my Locs from perm so my hair was locked at the roots, but the perm was still on the end for a couple of years before I cut it off just because I was more comfortable like that than doing the big chop. Otherwise I would’ve never had the straight ends because that is perm which we don’t need with Locs. Does that make sense? If not, and that’s not what you were asking at all, please just feel free to ask me again. Thanks for watching.🖤

@JourneywithTiffany - great video! I’m scheduled for my install next month!
I heard you mention Dallas. Are you in the north TX area? I am also..
I need a story time on the loctitian that was snipping your ends without saying anything!!!!!
I got you!! I’m doing my Storytime Loc journey this week and I’ll be sure to include that so look out for it! 👍🏾 Thanks for watching 🖤
P.S. yes! Your journey will be totally different from anyone else’s just shared experiences here n there so try not to compare and just enjoy your journey! 🩷
Same here. I've never wanted locs either, but I also never knew there was different types. I'm looking into microlocs
I’m considering traditional vs sister locs. This is a great video and thank you!❤
Awe Thanks so much Joann!! It’s a tough choice sis, they are both so pretty and have their own benefits! You can’t go wrong either way but doing your research as you are will ensure you are happy in the end! Thanks so much for watching 🖤

Oh and I looked like a plucked chicken too in the beginning!
Thank you! 🖤
@@JourneywithTiffany You are blessed your daughter does it! That’s awesome! Is she wanting locs in the future?

Laughing is good for the soul! Glad to hear it brought a smile 😊
For me the “Journey” was…
The excitement of finally getting the installation
The fear of the sparse chicken look but also happiness of starting
Then the surprise of starting to see them form what really truly looks like a loc
Then finally, seeing some Hangtime, and being able to shake them around and laugh at yourself
Seeing them reach, milestones such as your ears, then your neck, then your shoulder
Finally being able to pull them up into a ponytail
Measuring them against your bra strap as they grow out
Etc…..
Thank you soooo much for making this video!
Awe you are so very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to watch it! 🖤
Amen my hair was the longest it had ever been when I had my first set of locs. I just started my journey and I didn't have much education about it.

Thank you for sharing. I’m definitely getting locs soon and I can’t wait. But taking my time and doing my research. 😊
You are hilarious… I love how you express yourself
Awe thanks so much friend lol! I love to laugh that’s for sure! 😝 Glad you enjoyed and thanks so much for watching! See you in the next video 🖤

I can relate to the 1st year drama, I'm still there. They are sticking out in every direction...lol
It's still too short to put in a bun, so I've started using perm rods to give a curly look and curb the pointed ends, but this too shall pass 😊
Awesome advice, thanks so much!
You are so very welcome! Thanks so much for watching🖤
I didn’t realize either that you could start locks without fully growing out the relaxer.
I’m still back and forth between sister and micro.

“Cats be sucking on it sometimes”😂😂😂😂

Your hair looks beautiful
Thanks Beauty and thanks for watching 🖤
You are beautiful! 💛
Thank you so very much! You are sweet! 🖤
Your locs a gorgeous! You mentioned having thin hair however it looks so full. Do you have high density hair?
Hello beauty! Honey, let me tell you this hair used to be long and thin as paper! 😂 If you watch my visual lock album on my playlist, and look at my hair before my locks without weave….my hair was very very thin! It is amazing what Locs has done for my hair! It is only because of having them that my hair has become thick and dense now like never before!!!! Thank you so much for the compliments and thank you as well for watching. 🖤
Yes you can get a sisterlock reattached. It’s reattached with a crochet needle. Also a thinned out point can be reinforced with a crochet needle.
Thank you!! So glad to have confirmation. I think they just don’t want to do it sadly. Thanks sis!
This was a super helpful video! Thank you😊
Hello Beauty! Yay! That makes my heart happy! Glad I could help. Thanks for watching 🖤
Everyone I know that have them hair has grown super fast.
Once it gets past the first year or two then it’s easier to see growth but everyone I know complains about it growing slowly when you first stay out. Depends on the type of hair and what length you start from most likely. Thanks for watching 🖤

How would my curly ends become straight I’m just 3 months in
Hello there!
Wanted to ask if the locs were painful on the first year. About to start my journey.
Thanks for watching beauty!🖤

@@JourneywithTiffany see you in the next vid. By my RUclips name you may surmise that I am a veteran. I know something about regulated hairstyles for work. The funny thing is black women and I guess in theory all women were allowed to have locs as a soldier. But funny you could do it as a CO.
Also, it’s easier to go from micro or sister locks and combine and get thicker as you desire versus going from traditional, the other direction. So I totally get it. I’m sure you look great regardless! Thanks for watching 🖤
Girl you funny.
😝😝 😂Hey beauty! Girl I love a good time lol. Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! 🖤
The white folks don't bother me about my hair... I get lots of compliments on my natural styles from them.
Yea they never bothered me either. Thankfully!!! So I feel ya! I know that’s def NOT everyone’s story so was def trying to be careful to not say they never do. Cause you Neva know!!! Thanks for watching 🖤
Your start was probably a little rougher because your hair was permed,
I feel like the things I experienced didn’t really have anything to do with perm.
👍
Thanks a million for watching Beauty!🖤
Nope started on long hair. I looked crazy just like everyone else’s
Hello Beauty! I can understand that because you aren’t/ weren’t use to seeing yourself that way!😝
However, I have seen several longer starts and they were instantly prettier in my opinion than the short sparse chicken look lol. Some of the ones I saw looked like they had Locs for years already. I hope you are enjoying your journey and thanks for watching. 🖤
How would my curly ends become straight I’m just 3 months in
Hey Selina!!
