  • in Feng Shui, the command position is the best spot to put the most important piece of furniture like a bed in a bedroom, and how you start laying out your room. it has lots of criteria, but I will teach you a little trick to find it out in an instant, it's easier and more effective than you think!

    I used to have me desk facing the wall because it seemed to be the best sit for my small room, but could never keep my focus while I was trying to work. Since I started watching your videos and learnt about this, it made sense and I rotated me desk so I could have my back to the wall. Now I have a separate “office” space verses sleeping space and I feel more focused and comfortable working at my desk. Now I know! 😁

      Is your desk in the same room as your bed? If so how did you create the feeling of separation between your working and your sleeping space?

      @@IEnoro My space is really small, so my desk is actually facing the end of my bed. It was not great at first so I got a large body pillow and sat it lengthwise along the end of my bed. With it there, I can see my desk while I'm sitting or lying in bed, and blocks the bed while I'm sitting at my desk. It actually surprised me how well it defined the individual spaces

      It's very tricky when you live in a small space and have to use that space in multiple ways. In my room I have my work/study area, yoga/exercise area, reading/film-and-youtube-watching/fixing stuff/crafting and making stuff/art areas, storage-for-putting-away-my-stuff area, botanical garden area...
      You've inspired me, I think I'm going to move my desk around too as it "faces" a corner with my back to the room. I will see how it goes 😊

    • @AiSyYoo
      @AiSyYoo Год назад +10

      Same, it's so effective. What's crazy is that I haven't seen this video before I changed my room's layout so it's not like a placebo effect. I can vouch based on experience that it's working like magic.
      my desk used to face the wall because I can easily reach my shelves. but even though it's so convenient having everything in my reach, for some reason I feel unsettled and messy. I could never sit still and focus for even 30 minutes. I'd get up to get water, stretch, sort papers, every little shxt my pea brain would order me to do just so that I can avoid the projects in my face😂
      One of that little weird out-of-pure-whim I did just today is moved my desk to the middle of my room (since I finished collating my papers anyway) with my back now on the wall. I finally finished the project I've been slowly chipping off for two weeks lol xD

    I really like how you acknowledge personality/personal differences. I literally just shifted my furniture to a more traditional command position and I realized that being able to see the entire space is making me anxious so I changed it back. Having a smaller field of vigilance in my home helps me turn off my scanning brain and contributes to a sense of safety and calm.

    Back when I was a banquet server we would sometimes over set the room by a substantial amount. At lunchtime, to expedite the service so guests could get back to their meetings, we would preset the first course. Every time the first guests entering the room would look around the room and make a bee line for the unpreset tables. I always assumed it was because humans are territorial and they sought out the territory that looked less crowded (preset table looked more crowded). Now I see that these tables were always in the command positions in the far corners of the room. Thanks for this insight!!

      The pre-set looks reserved. Preset suggests in a hurry. Empty table means I can take my time over this, get my things on the table first and settle in for a long comfortable stay.

    • @nahyutarightsactivist
      @nahyutarightsactivist Год назад +36

      i suggest you place bowls close to but away from a wall. this isn’t feng shui but rather animal nature! leave just enough space between the wall and bowl for the animal to get there and eat. this is because animals feel quite vulnerable when they eat as they’re focused on their food rather than their surroundings ; if their back is to a wall they feel they can’t be attacked from behind and can see any attackers from the front!

      For cats, do separate the water bowl(s) from the food bowl(s). Cats are finicky in nature and never drink near where they eat in order to avoid contaminated water. It is best to refresh the water every day.
      If you have more than one cat, also keep their bowls fairly separated so they are less likely to have territorial issues.

    • @AshleyBromiley
      @AshleyBromiley Год назад +4

      As others have said for cats it's best to separate food and water bowls (or get a water fountain) and separate bowls if you have multiple pets. Most animals prefer to be able to see their surroundings while eating too just like us. I keep my cats food bowls on either side of my dining table and they eat facing the rest of the room. If you don't have a lot of space you can put the bowl/plate up against the wall but rotate it so that they are parallel to the wall instead of facing it.

    Say what you want but for me the command position is facing the window. It is true for both my bed and my desk, although the bed needs to be far from the window and desk can be close to it. I literally can't sleep if there is a windows on the side of me (despite me closing the curtains at night) and I would be really uncomfortable/anxious if there was a window behind me. Door next to the bed doesn't bother me because I keep it locked at night. However I currently struggle with the desk placement during the day at my parents house (my own apartment doesn't matter because I live alone so noone walks behind my back anyway). In both houses the furniture is set like this: Door->Bed->Desk->Window with door behind the bed, bed facing the desk and desk facing the window. But I don't feel comfortable with my parents sneaking behind my back when I am at my laptop so I limit my activities at my parents home (not like I do anything shameful in my apartment either, but I just don't like my parents to sneak behind my back to read what I write or comment how I play a game).
    I need to think about a solution. All I know is I can't move my desk in a position that doesn't let me see the window though. I am too extroverted for that despite being social introvert. In my apartment I even added a huge mirror so I can actually see everything from south-east, through south to southwest from my desk. The window in my parents house is already bad because it's quite small, and all I can see is neighbor house and an empty street.
    In cafes I also tend to choose spots in front of the window. I actually have a favorite spot at a nearby cafe - it's in the 2nd floor and contains a bar table attached to a huge window with street view. I enjoy looking at the world. Alternatively I will choose a spot facing the cafe and the door and a window, basically having as much view as possible.

    @Dear Modern My bedroom doubles as my computer and hobby space, with my bed in the kitty-corner area away from the doorway (no door, BTW); my PC and hobby space setup directly in front of said doorway; my closet just past the short wall that supports my light, thermostat, an low-down electric outlet, and my light switch. My bed is also against my window in the western wall.
    My plans for my room are to keep the hobby/PC area where it is, but split it off from my bed using some furniture that can hold my overwhelming amount of free-hand drawn artworks and my Hobby models of Gundam Plastic models, aka Gunpla. General room dimensions are 12ft. (E.-W.) x 10ft. (N.-S.), not including the recessed closet. How would you recommend I accomplish my goal with Feng Shui...? I can't exactly move my be, since the door is NE corner with closet taking up N wall. (also, still need family to see my online activities, just in case I go NSFW as I used to...)

    So i have a pretty difficult room to work with. The spot i feel most comfortable in is directly in line with the door which faces one corner of the living room. It is also the one spot in the room where my huge L shaped desk can fit nicely without making my living room look like theres no space and also away from the window where the blinds let in too much light.
    However from what i read, you should never place ur desk in front of the door, what are your thoughts?

    • @roberthernandez4809

      An alternative would be to have my desk facing a wall diagonally across from the door is. My back would have to be against the center of the room to make my living room seem more spacious and less boxy; also the window is located at that spot so either my back is facing the window or to the living room.

    Also, Cliff, the current furniture in my room is a twin-size bed, 5ft. long x 2ft. wide dresser with 6 9in. tall drawers (this is going to be moved out), a make-shift desk out of a rough made "kneeling bench" (pine wood lumber pieces and screws w/ 2 bolts on the outside of the legs) placed up-side -down and a 15in. wide x roughly 30 in. long wooden board on top. (My PC tower rests in the space made by the mock kneeling bench and the board, with my keyboard & computer mouse on the board's top) I also have a few other items of furniture in the room, like a wooden "fold-up" card table for my hobby and art; a closet organizer with 3 coat hanger bars (2 on the W. [1 up top, 1 down low] & 1 up top on the E.); and a semi functional nightstand at the foot of the twin bed (2 twin frames stack on each other with a single mattress, about knee high altogether).
    Room is a disaster of a mess, even though I keep trying to cut down on my clutter, so I won't put it on video! And although I won't do that, I *AM* highly artistic in free hand art on paper with pencil. I'll draw up my room as is, and include a short list of the 3 or more Items I would like to replace the dresser for storing my arts and craft materials and my finished hobby models. Please ask me for these in the community area so I can post to you?

    After watching this I put my desk in the command position and now my kid can work better on the computer. For me, however, it does NOT help, and is inlfact worse than any othe rposition.
    I suspect me being adhd and a single mum makes it impossible to actually get work done without being distracted when not facing a wall or smth.
    I really need pretty enclosed spaces to get really productive, with only one way to approach (from the side). Everything else has me distracted and miserable.
