Ofc, I can't know where you buy the French jam that costs 4X more than regular jam, but I just looked up Bonne Maman at Walmart....a 13oz/370g jar is $5.97. The BM also lists sugar then cane sugar---13g is a lot for a 20g portion. My breakfast is typically several slices of wholegrain toast with coffee and 52+ grams of sugar for one meal is too much for me. I've had to stop buying fruit spreads of all types unless they're sugar free or make a jar's worth at home with an alternative sweetener. I think our preferences are being dictated by the fruit's quality and ripeness rather than the sugar content---which seems to be just about the same across these brands.

Smucker's : Strawberries, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, Sugar, Fruit Pectin, Citric Acid. Bonne maman: Strawberries, Sugar, Cane Sugar, Concentrated Lemon Juice, Fruit Pectin. people in america are used to very sweet flavor for the jam. Bonne maman has more acidity so it was rated lower.
My favorite strawberry jam hands down is the frozen strawberry jam made with liquid pectin. The recipe is in the Ball Canning Company blue book. Bright and delicious! I think in any jam, the big difference is using real sugar and not high fructose corn syrup.
I make my own jam/jelly and is wonderful. In a pan, in medium heat, I put blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries with a little bit of water and NO SUGAR. As they get hot I smashed them and stirred them together. After about 10 minutes, I turn off the heat and let them cool. You can stored them like that or blend them a bit if you like and stored them in the refrigerator. Healthy and easy and no added ingredients or sugars.
My mom mostly made her own preserves, but when we were out she would usually buy Polaner's All Fruit, which I like to this day. Also really like Bonne Maman when I can find it. Surprised to see Smuckers win, though I guess it's a well-known brand for a reason.
We had no shortage of great brands to choose from when I was a kid, but even then, Smuckers was out front. I do think they care more about quality than many companies.
Bonne Maman is by far and away the best preserves that you can buy! A little pricey ~$4-5 a jar, but so worth it. I replaced Smuckers with this brand and haven't looked back.
It's a little known fact Normy that strawberries are among the fruits most heavily sprayed with pesticides. This led me to switch from Smuckers to Costco's Kirkland brand Organic Strawberry Spread, nothing but strawberries, sugar, pectin and citric acid. Better than Smuckers and about the same price.
@@SheilaR.08 Can you switch to a thoroughly wash and sanitized smaller jar. I just did with my large jar of spiced apple preserves. Smaller jar is cuter too!
Smucker’s is a by far my favourite too! I love how they don’t add colour like a lot of other brands do. I tried to make my own but still preferred Smucker’s . Now I save myself the work and just buy it😊
I'm lucky to have a job that takes me to Europe, quite often. Movenpick brand has the BEST jams -- strawberry, blueberry, black current, marmalade. Outstanding.
Jellies, jams, preserves, The best one is the one each person reaches for the most. I had a room mate who preferred Knots Berry Farms, I reached for Bonne Maman most often texture is to my liking.
I’m not at all into strawberry jelly, jam, or preserves but my fave is Dickinsons preserves for all other flavors… black raspberry or red raspberry preserves with no seeds are the best imho.
I've taken to buying sugar free fruit spreads---which have a somewhat gelatinous texture---or cooking a small jar's worth of berry preserves with chia seeds, pectin and an alternative sweetener. Regardless of the common sugar types used, store selections are all over sweetenered in my opinion. I bought Crofters blackberry jam and decided I could do better with my own homemade version--and I did.
As a lifelong former Orrville-ite taste tester at Smucker, it was fun to see it being tasted by professionals. I would always choose it bc, the strawberry flavor is the best. Yup, it's sweet, it's supposed to be.
I don’t care for strawberry jellies, jams, etc, but the Bonne Maman Four Fruits Préserves are delicious and are also great in Baked Brie!! Yummy! Fresh is the only way to eat strawberries, IMO! And Louisiana strawberries are the world’s best👍❣️
Reading the fan comment about Bonne Maman here reminds me of those famous marketing surveys of car buyers, i.e. luxury car owners (say BMW or Mercedes) insisting that they bought their car for their quality of worksmanship and reliability. Why they picked the Smucker's, because it was a blind test. The testers didn't see the nice container with the handwritten style label, a name that reminds you of granny from France. Those things do matter to your enjoyment of the jam. Otherwise Bonne Maman wouldn't have spent all that money to get it right.
Everyone commenting about how Smuckers is "too sugary" compared to Bonne Maman should check the nutrition facts... literally 12g sugar/tbsp of Smuckers vs 13g/tbsp Bonne Maman
I have never liked super sweet jams/spreads/jellies. I have not been a Smuckers fan since I was a little kid (that was the brand my mom bought). I agree with many commenters here that Bonne Maman is far and above Smuckers. One of my critiques of ATK is they love their salt and sugar far more than I do. When using their recipes, I cut back on both of these items, especially salt as folks can salt after the dish is done to suit their own tastes.
Tiptree Little Scarlet. Hard to find here in the US, but you can order it on Amazon. From the UK, made up of special tiny strawberries that are whole in the preserves. Try this one and you’ll never go back!
Wow, I'd say WELL DONE!!! The video helped me a lot. Shared knowledge is of prime importance.one of the most useful contents in my life. ♡ I love all these videos!
This is one of the few taste tests that contains at least a few products that are also available here in Canada. I've purchased Smuckers and find it a very good product, but my choice here in Canada is either Kraft strawberry jam or, surprisingly, the IGA/Sobey's own store brand which I find to be excellent and contains no preservatives or other additives. All the Bonne Mama products I've tried have also been excellent, if more expensive than most others.
The very best in 🇨🇦: Greaves, made in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We used to live there in a house built in 1817. When they made strawberry jam the whole town smelled sweet. They also make fabulous chili sauce from local produce. The aroma was heavenly. Sadly, the town is now a tacky tourist trap 😢.
Personally, I go Smucker's low sugar strawberry preserves. You still get some of those chunky fruit bits, a decent strawberry taste, and a whole lot less sugar. If I'm making a PB&J, I'll actually mix the PB and the low sugar together before spreading it on the bread. It's reminiscent of my childhood schools PB&J sandwiches. I think they did that for faster assembly of the sandwiches.
I have a small stockpile of Smucker's "Low Sugar" orange marmalade, as well as one strawberry. That's been my favorite since my first year in college, and that's a LONG time. I like how the fruit (and the rind!!!) is the flavor focus. Not sticky or gloppy. But now that I can't find "Low Sugar" varieties anymore -- not even if I drive to the stores over an hour away that were the last places I could buy them -- I tried some of the Smucker's "Natural". It seemed ... well ... less. Less flavor, less fruit, less satisfaction. I fear the strawberry would be the same. When I do peanut butter sandwiches, with orange marmalade on rye is my favorite, but I'm happy with just about any marmalade (including ginger or guava). If I have some challah around, however, it has to be strawberry jam or preserves.
I like blueberry & Raspberry preserves/jam the best. You can have all jellies. Though I have seen Bonne Maman, I can't remember having any as I didn't have a, "That's the best preserves I've ever had!" response, like so many commenters here.
My mother and grandmother used to do "canning". Mason jars, Ball lids and caps, Certo or Sure Jell, fruit, sugar and lemon juice. The jarred fruit spread which replicates homemade is Welch's Natural. Read the label.
All Stonewall Kitchen products are good, but you do have to pay a hefty premium for them. If you can find it, their Maple Chipotle barbecue sauce is amazing, and of all commercial lemon curds, they have the best by a large margin.
The RUclips winner is clearly Bonne Maman! LOL! I was rather surprised to know that it's not actually an "boutique" brand but available essentially everywhere alongside Smuckers and Knott's. I've tried almost every flavor of Bonne Maman and have been impressed, although I think their lemon curd could be better. For my money, it's Trader Joe's for when I want lemon curd on my crumpets! But, Bonne Maman's also has those lovely jars that have so much utility!
What I was surprised to learn in a recent GMM episode is that they found the jam in plastic to have a much better flavour than glass. They found this with all condiments, and actually the packets were the favourite overall. who'd have thought.
I wonder if it's a temperature thing. Needing to store plastic at a lower temp vs glass, changing the storage protocols for their respective jams after filling.
I hate chunks in my jam. If I wanted chunks I would just eat a strawberry. I like the taste of Bonne Maman but I have to give it a couple pulses with the hand blender.
@@drackar No. _Jelly_ is made from fruit juice only, or with the fruit strained out to extract the juice. _Jam_ is made with the fruit left in but mashed up. _Preserves_ are made in much the same way as jam, but the fruit is kept whole or cut only into very large pieces. Note that the winning "jam" actually says "Preserves" on the label. I want jam, with a greater mashitude level than the winning "jam," so that it spreads more evenly and maintains a relatively consistent ratio of jam to butter to toastal surface. Strangely enough, the company that makes the winning "jam," which it calls "Preserves," also makes a jam in precisely the style I desire which it calls "Jam." So not only do I disagree with you, but Smucker's disagrees with you as well. No gratitude need be expressed for my bestowal of this life-transforming information. Just knowing that you may now function in the world as a jam-eating adult is all the thanks I need.
We have enjoyed Kirkland (Costco) Strawberry Spread for years. In addition to being organic and delicious, its added sugar is a reasonable 8gr and we've found a little goes a long way.
1. St. Dalfour (NO added sugar) but sweet enough (French) 2. Bonne Maman (added sugar) - too sweet! (French) 3. Hero (added sugar) (Swiss) Smuckers is rubbish.
I was surprised to not see Polaner's out there!
Bonne Maman is by far and away the best preserves that you can buy! A little pricey ~$4-5 a jar, but so worth it. I replaced Smuckers with this brand and haven't looked back.
I agree. Bonne Maman is 4 times the price of regular jam in my country but its way better and it lasts me 2 months so its worth it
It's a little known fact Normy that strawberries are among the fruits most heavily sprayed with pesticides. This led me to switch from Smuckers to Costco's Kirkland brand Organic Strawberry Spread, nothing but strawberries, sugar, pectin and citric acid. Better than Smuckers and about the same price.
It's excellent, though I wish they'd switch from a single large jar to a two-pack of smaller ones. It's a challenge when it is less than half full.
@@SheilaR.08 Can you switch to a thoroughly wash and sanitized smaller jar. I just did with my large jar of spiced apple preserves. Smaller jar is cuter too!
Try crofts.
Strawberry jam and brie grilled cheese sandwiches are to die for.
Smucker’s is a by far my favourite too! I love how they don’t add colour like a lot of other brands do. I tried to make my own but still preferred Smucker’s . Now I save myself the work and just buy it😊
Smuckers' is heavy SPRAYED WITH CHEMICALS= 😤😤😤😤😤😧😧😧😧😧💀💀💀💀🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
@@captainamericaamerica8090 I would imagine they all are unless they say organic.
@@DD-mn9jh we only use Organics.
Tiptree's 'Little Scarlet' Strawberry Preserve is our family favourite, get it on Amazon since we are not in the UK.
Recently tried this product for the first time and I totally agree! I never thought I'd find one that topped Bonne Maman.
It’s my favourite and James Bond as well.
I'm lucky to have a job that takes me to Europe, quite often.
Movenpick brand has the BEST jams -- strawberry, blueberry, black current, marmalade. Outstanding.
Jellies, jams, preserves,
The best one is the one each person reaches for the most. I had a room mate who preferred Knots Berry Farms, I reached for Bonne Maman most often texture is to my liking.
St Dalfour from France for preserve and Orange Marmalade. No sugar. Sweetened with fruit juice concentrate. The blueberry is amazing.
I’m not at all into strawberry jelly, jam, or preserves but my fave is Dickinsons preserves for all other flavors… black raspberry or red raspberry preserves with no seeds are the best imho.
Amen!
There is an Organic Kirkland brand they sell at Costco that tastes the best to me.
Costco also sells Bonne Maman strawberry 🍓 jam in a large jar. Quelle surprise.
Why wasn’t Bonne maman brand included???
Juju B It was included, it didn't make the finals.
What about European brands like D’Arbo and Hero? D’Arbo is my fave!
Same here. D'Arbo is fantastic.
Mine too! The strawberry and raspberry both taste great. The strawberry tastes like wild grown mountain strawberries. 🍓
That Smucker's is made out of high fructose corn syrup.
True! I once saw them do a review of canned beans. They tasted a "no salt added" variety and declared that it didn't have enough salt. 🙄
Tiptree Little Scarlet. Hard to find here in the US, but you can order it on Amazon. From the UK, made up of special tiny strawberries that are whole in the preserves. Try this one and you’ll never go back!
Wow, that audience certainly goes WILD for strawberry jam taste-tests!
Wow, I'd say WELL DONE!!! The video helped me a lot. Shared knowledge is of prime importance.one of the most useful contents in my life. ♡ I love all these videos!
The Walls Berry Farm Organic Strawberry Spread from Costco is excellent.
We buy Smucker's for the kids because they go through it so dang fast. For us adults we buy Bonne Maman, it's absolutely the best.
My personal favorite is Bonne Maman, period
I never met a Bonne Manan I didn't love! The Four Fruits is my favorite!
Polaner All Fruit is my fav by far.
My mother and grandmother used to do "canning". Mason jars, Ball lids and caps, Certo or Sure Jell, fruit, sugar and lemon juice. The jarred fruit spread which replicates homemade is Welch's Natural. Read the label.
Smuckers has an “all natural “ version of their jams which matches the ingredients of Bonne Maman. Price is the same. I buy Bonne Maman for the taste.
I totally agree with the Smucker's Strawberry Preserves choice. If it isn't available at the store, I wait until it is.
I can't get Bonnie Maam at any of the stores I shop at !! Sorry 😞
Did the panel consider Bonne Maman? I suggest you do another taste test.
Stonewall Kitchen has the best jams. My favorite is blueberry.
All Stonewall Kitchen products are good, but you do have to pay a hefty premium for them. If you can find it, their Maple Chipotle barbecue sauce is amazing, and of all commercial lemon curds, they have the best by a large margin.
@@roberttschaefer I agree. Fantastic product but high prices.
I’m willing to sacrifice a negligible difference in flavor for using less single-use plastic.
I wonder if it's a temperature thing. Needing to store plastic at a lower temp vs glass, changing the storage protocols for their respective jams after filling.
@@jamersbazuka8055 I believe its more because of the air-tight seal, and air exposure. It would especially make sense for the packets.
@@bondfool Yes, maybe the reusable market needs to change. Aluminum perhaps?
So said the lobbyist or paid content writer of the plastics manufacturing industry. Give me glass any day over plastic.
I’m born and raised in the home of the JM Smucker Co., and my father, grandfather, and I all worked there. So it’s a no brainer what I favor.🍓🍓🍓
I was introduced to Bonne Maman in Paris 1988. The best!
Bonne Maman was 4th behind Smucker's in their taste test and just ahead of Stonewall Kitchen
I hate chunks in my jam. If I wanted chunks I would just eat a strawberry. I like the taste of Bonne Maman but I have to give it a couple pulses with the hand blender.
Sounds like what you want is Jelly not Jam.
🍓Home made is the BEST.🍓
Welch's, all-natural strawberry preserves, the best, hands down.
“With a name like Smucker's, it has to be good”!
I have always been a Smuckers fan and I haven’t tasted any other brand that changed my mind.
Sorry but I go by what has high fructose corn syrup which is mostly always. At least Euro brands avoid that.
Crofter's Organic is my go to!
I didn't see it here, but there's another (maybe regional) product called Trappist (made by monks allegedly) that's excellent.
Kirkland Signature Organic Strawberry Spread
1. St. Dalfour (NO added sugar) but sweet enough (French)
2. Bonne Maman (added sugar) - too sweet! (French)
3. Hero (added sugar) (Swiss)
Smuckers is rubbish.
I prefer raspberry jam (St Dalfour) and also damson jam (Bonne Maman) and absolute treat Four Fruits (St Dalfour). Also Hero blackcurrant jam. All with good quality WHITE bread toast. And of course with a hot cup of good quality tea "a drink with jam and bread" in the famous words of Julie Andrews.
I only purchase Bonne Maman and only preserves. To me it’s the best brand and I like seeded preserves. 😋
With a name like Smuckers, it has to be the best. (Anyone remember that old slogan?)
Nope, It's: "With a name like Smuckers, it has to be good."
I can’t shake the feeling that I’m watching a sketch of an original that was filmed in 1978, the wardrobe, the studio audience, and set. Even though I agree with her choice, Smuckers is my favorite store bought Strawberry Jam/Preserves.
Julia is my favorite.
I’m surprised she chose the one with high fructose corn syrup. We might have too. 😝
Usually when I read the ingredients I’ll never buy it if I see hfcs listed. Aldi and Tjmaxx has very good jams/preserves without hfcs!
Smuckers Strawberry Preserves and Crunchy Skippy tastes so great in a PB&J.
Costco has it. The Kirkland brand. :discussionclosed:
I bought a big jar of Kirkland brand last year and it was fabulous! Best I ever tasted! Haven't been able to find it since then though :(
Being from Ohio I am loyal to Smuckers, who as you know, their hq is in Orrville, Ohio. Good to see you liked it too.
Not a fan of High Fructose Corn Syrup and Corn Syrup which are in your Smucker's winner. Currently using Darbo Strawberry Fruit Spread which happens to be from Austria, but seems to be in US stores. Ingredients are 50% Strawberries, Sugar, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Pectin.
I agree with the many commenters. Bonne Maman. Quality. Try their Blackberry and Apricot jams. Awesome
I always use the Strawberry preserve from Aldi. Cheapest and best quality as Smuckers.
Bonne Maman is definitely the best jam. I grew up with smuckers and always thought it was really sweet. Bonne Maman is just so nice and balanced.
I read labels and look for the one with the fewest ingredients, less sugar and fat....there are many good ones. By the time you put chocolate syrup, strawberries or other toppings on them, many are good!
My favorite is Tiptree, followed by Polaner but my kids love the Welch’s natural strawberry spread
In the summer of 1969, I worked at Oxnard Frozen Foods putting up Strawberries for Smuckers. 55 gal. drums with 110 lb. of sugar, then into the freezer . I was a sweet sticky mess every night.
Bonne maman jars are also great for spices
Crofters is my favorite Smuckers is too sweet and haven’t tried the other one.
Remember when their motto was "with a name like Smuckers, it's got to be good"? Damn straight
Pure marketing, more like.
