    Haagen-Daz's Chocolate is spectacular. The flavor, the consistency - put some in a bowl and pour just a little bit of milk over it - it's like a ready made milk shake - the milk immediately turns a nice shade of delicious brown - and I'm not a person who even prefers cholocate!

    One of my criteria for ice cream is that it actually melts. so many of them have so much stabilizer junk in them that they don't melt, they just thaw into room temperature foam.

    For those of you who have Culver's restaurants, about a year or so ago they introduced a new flavor of frozen custard, Dark Chocolate Decadence. It's fabulous! They also sell variants, Devil's Food Cake (with cake pieces mixed in) and Midnight Toffee (with toffee mixed in). I upload reminders to my calendar when they're the designated flavor of the day.

    OMG! Whenever y'all are in the Atlanta area, you have to go to Panorama farms in Ellijay Georgia. They have homemade ice cream that they make themselves, all of their other flavors are really good ice cream but... Their chocolate ice cream is to die for! I'm not a big fan of deep rich chocolate dark chocolate mind you, but this ice cream really takes the cake, LOL. It's really creamy and really fudgy and chocolatey. I don't know how they do it, you can tell it's premium ice cream, but the chocolate flavor is really deep. So whenever you're in Atlanta area, take about an hour and a half Drive up route 575 to Ellijay Georgia, Panorama Farms. It's an apple farm and they have a little farm store that has touristy stuff. A nice day drive..... oh, and get yourself some of that deep rich chocolate delight!

      It will be interesting to put Graeter's "Double Chocolate Chip" head-to-head with a pint of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream's "Darkest Chocolate" (also made in Ohio), which took over 5 years to develop and boldly claims: "This is the chocolate ice cream to ruin all other chocolate ice creams." (Jeni's also makes a 'Milkiest Chocolate') Yet, looking at the nutritional labels, Graeter's probably has it beat on texture (Total Fat 27g/Saturated Fat 15g) vs Jeni's (Total Fat 16g/Saturated Fat 10g) undoubtedly due to the cream content. Hope you can test both too!

      Graeters is over shadowed by Jeni's locally (fine by me), but for many ice cream purists, Graeters is the way to go. It's our special treat when we are going out specifically for ice cream. Although, Chocolate Haagen Dazs is what is in my home freezer.

      @@mynocturnallife If you ever see Häagen-Dazs 'Belgian Chocolate' ice cream, you might find it even better than their regular 'Chocolate' ice cream. • @mahna_mahna
      @mahna_mahna 3 года назад +7

      No, it's not code for "we added more air." It's actually a very interesting bit of food chemistry (which isn't per se a bad thing, as things like cheese and beer and yogurt are in no way "natural" and are the height of food chemistry).
      They developed a process to break up the blobs of fat into much smaller blobs than you'd normally be able to produce. That lets them use less fat, but spread it out further into the ice cream. That gives it a very similar mouthfeel to a much higher fat ice cream. No, it's not the most amazing ice cream, but it's pretty good to me (depending on the flavor, which is true of many ice creams).
      I respect them for making a process to do that versus most "low fat" ice creams that instead pump the sugar up by an amazing amount, or put weird tasting alcohol sugars like xylitol or sorbitol or even worse awful stuff like aspartame or splenda in there. The slow churned stuff managed to get both the fat AND calories cut by a significant amount without resorting to any of that.
      Yeah, they have a few thickeners that aren't great, at least in the non-premium ice creams. But here's the weird thing: in the US/Canada, Häagen-Dazs is actually produced by.... DREYERS (aka Edy's). And back about 15 years ago, they came out with a Häagen-Dazs Premium Light Ice cream line and it was amazing. It was a premium ice cream, so it didn't use thickeners and stuff like most non-premium lines. It also had more fat (though still broken up using its super-homogenization process) than non-premium ice cream. They had a lot of the same HD flavors like Rocky Road and Mint Chip. But then they discontinued it because there wasn't enough of a market for low(er) fat premium ice cream. Which was a shame, because it had near-premium taste for about the same fat/calorie content as non-premium. It was my go-to ice cream.
      Oddly enough, I liked the slow churned mint chip recipe better, as it was less eggy and more of a "clean" mint flavor. I still miss it to this day.

I've heard Publix is a better place to work, but here in Michigan Aldis treats their workers the best, and that matters to me.
      Love all their frozen deserts, even the cheeper ice cream is good. Great chocolates, great "girl scout" type cookies. Their ketchup tastes like Heinze, their peanut butter tastes like Jif, their ranch dressing like Hidden Valley, all probably made in the same factories. Not crazy about all their deli salads and hummus, things like that, but don't buy much of that anyway. Produce is good. They try to get the cheapest, so look at it carefully. I splurge on meat, try to buy most local organic, but will pick a few things up at Aldis in a pinch, it's very good. Chips are excellent, such a good deal.
