    • @jenniferlynn3537

Yes - it DOES - because Häagen-Dazs only uses pure vanilla extract. They also use the highest quality Madagascar vanilla beans - which are far more flavorful (and hence expensive) than those from Indonesia. I used to work for a flavor company that sold to Häagen-Dazs - and their standards were notoriously high: The bundles of beans had to be plump and fresh, and free from mold, cuts or other blemishes.
It’s very sad reading some of the comments on this video. The American palate has become so corrupted by artificial flavorings, cheap sweeteners, gums, additives and preservatives that it no longer appreciates high-quality food over adulterated versions. When kids are brought up with certain flavors, they usually end up developing an affinity for them, associate the taste with nostalgia and the comforts of home - even if what they’re consuming is of low value.
I read one guy waxing poetic about his favorite ice cream brand melting “into the perfect thick milkshake.” Except that REAL ice cream melts into a liquid - NOT a frothy thick sludge. Milkshakes are SUPPOSED be made by blending milk with frozen ice cream to obtain that characteristic soft, thick, drink - which is ALSO supposed to melt into a liquid.
The FDA has really allowed a lot of garbage to come to market - and it’s little wonder we have the health problems that we do.

Wow. It is amazing what people consider good. Häagen-Dazs has a ridiculous name, but their vanilla and vanilla bean ice creams are the best grocery store vanilla ice creams by far. Vanilla contains: cream, skim milk, cane sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla extract. The vanilla bean flavor also has ground vanilla beans after the egg yolks. For those who say it is icy, you must be getting it on a deep sale after the store's freezer gave out and it thawed and re-froze. It is usually naturally creamy due to the high fat and egg yolk content, unlike the other brands that have so many fillers. I guess people think those taste creamy, but to me they taste greasy and waxy and fake.
Ben and Jerry's? Their third ingredient is liquid sugar (sugar and water) and the fourth ingredient is WATER! And it has fillers like guar gum and carrageenan to try to make it artificially creamier. Gross.
People in the comments also seem to think Blue Bell "Homemade" vanilla is the best. Are they insane? It has high fructose corn syrup, artificial vanilla flavor, cellulose gum, guar gum, carrageenan, carob bean, and annatto color (to give it a bit of an orange tint as if it actually contains egg yolk, which it does not.
Maybe people convince themselves stuff like Turkey Hill actually tastes good because it costs seven times less than Häagen-Dazs. I don't get it. I'd much rather have 14 oz of Häagen-Dazs than 3 quarts of these artificial brands.

Häagen-Dazs is NOT an ice cream. It is a CUSTARD! It has eggs. It may have no air, zero corn syrup, and no other additives.
However, Haagen-Dazs has changed the recipe. It is now not as creamy as it used to be. Why?
The answer is in the ingredients list. Haagen-Dazs used to use condensed milk. Now they use skim milk, which is likely more watery. It apparently has changed the taste very subtly; it seems it is now not as creamy and yummy as it used to be. I can taste the lower satisfactory taste it leaves me with. So have many others, who have picked up on the taste being less satisfying.

Some others use eggs and still call it ice cream because eggs are the only emulsifiers they use. I believe they call that "organic ice cream". Too many blur the truth, all for the sake of marketing. Ice cream carries no eggs by tradition. And if you put enough eggs into ice cream, it is no longer a custard. Its called French Style Ice Cream.

However, for rule of thumb regardless, anything containing eggs is considered a custard.
Now why would companies like Haagen-Dazs, and Ben & Jerry's fight tooth and nail to call their egg concoctions an Ice
Cream and not a custard based frozen cream. Marketing. Read the calories in the Haagen-Dazs, and Ben & Jerry's vs true eggless ice creams. That would more likely allienate people away from Haagen-Dazs, and Ben & Jerry's because of the calories they provide.

One factor that can spoil the reviews of ice cream is whether the container was rather freshly made or in the freezer for too long (potential freezer burn), and another factor is whether it was always stored at the proper temperature so that the ice cream did not melt and RE-freeze.

Agreed. Only 30 min from the Turkey Hill factory. Also important note is the difference between a frozen dairy dessert and ice cream. Ice cream is what you think it is. Frozen dairy dessert is when there are so many fillers and non cream ingredients they can't legally call it ice cream anymore. Look on the containers the next time you're in the store. You'll see the difference right away on the packages.

Blue Bell is also my favorite and not just because I'm from Texas.
