I usually thicken mine with Xantham Gum, but I much prefer your idea of Chia Seeds Sasha! As ever, you come up with the best ideas! TFS and have a great week! 👍❤
I agree Hazel, so many store-bought products are so much sweet and jam is definitely one of those, it just happens with the taste buds, I can't taste Nutella anymore, thanks god for that... so homemade low-sugar alternatives are such a great solution. So glad you like this jam and appreciate your lovely feedback as always my friend. Have a lovely day!
I stopped buying Nutella made in Canada and Poland because it's just a jar of creamy brown-tinted sugar now. Faint chocolate flavor and maybe a bit of hazelnut that became cake frosting.
Fantastic version of homemade healthy jam. Never ate store bought jam as it taste like a bag of sugar. I normally make my jams without pectin only add quarter cup of honey. I do boil the jars before and after cooking and adding jam to the jar as I like to use the berries growing in my yard. For a fast and easy jam for everyday, I love the chia seed recipe.

You could add lime or lemon juice to the jam as a preservative to this chia seed fruit jam recipe…..it will last up to a month in refrigerator, as I wont go through the size you make in one week
About two weeks ago I made a peanut butter jar's worth of preserves and it turned out very nicely. I used mixed berries currently in my freezer: blackberries, strawberries and blueberries, adding in unsweetened store bought applesauce, chia seeds and a spoonful of low sugar powdered pectin. I didn't make a mental note about additional sweetening but will be using a couple of tablespoons of monkfruit sweetener for the next batch....I have lots of berries to still use up ! This fruit mixture is so good with yogurt, over ice cream, in smoothies. Very versatile and not sickly sweet either.
It's a slight variation on Sasha's recipe. Really good tasting-- -but it will eventually develop mold like mine did. It got pushed to the back of the fridge and forgotten. Be sure to make one very small batch at a time. And remember to consume it, lol !
Wonderful, thanks so much. I have been making jams this year because of lots of fruit trees in my neighborhood and don't want the fruit to go to waste. A struggle has been to make jams that are lower in sugar, so I had substituted white cane sugar with coconut sugar, which was ok, but still a lot of sugar. I like the idea to reduce the sugar which is nice! Although pectin occurs naturally in several fruits, esp citrus. When I make homemade jam I also get a lemon or two. I add the lemon juice in cause it adds a nice acid to balance things out. Delicious version.
Glad you like it!
I really like jam with jalapenos. Do you think it would work to cook one diced jalapeno with the fruit?
Very likely hot peppers won't pair well with berries but peaches, mangoes or pineapples do---a common mix in fruit salsas.
Old russian black currаnt jam.
Stir berries with sugar.End.
Store in cold place.
Bon appetite!
but some people like me don't want to add all that table sugar

Yeah, I just love that rustic feel and tiny pieces of fruit inside my jam.
Super 💯👌
I seem to remember some people in the UK making a reduced sugar jam and the E U banned them from selling it.
Is there any way to preserve this jam other than keeping it in a fridge?
