Scammers don't care about people they scam, they only care about getting money. They are in Ghana and India. They work in chat rooms and are trained to do this.
They change phone numbers, can disguise their voices, different accents.
I am more pissed at these women who allow themselves to get scammed.
She had the nerve to ask her mother for money.
I don't blame the scammers as much as these women who should know better. There are warnings!

"I was, like, okay." Don't any of these people even try to educate themselves? Other people are preventing "Erik" from accessing his multi-zillions and he needs this little mope to fund him. Wow. Ripping off her own mother is beyond despicable.

Cause "granny" (me) is not in the least bit interested in something I don't understand." Naw, you can't teach me, Naw, you can't invest for me. Just pass me the crumpets and top up my tea. Don't do what the bro at the gym said made him a ton of money. Read. And then use a discount brokerage, like Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab, etc, with low fees. And pick a solid, broad-based ETF. We had some “friends” who wanted us to invest in some property. It was complicated and they told us we could do it by taking out a loan for 100k and they could steer us to a lender. Supposedly they were also putting money into the property. We sat down and talked about the kind of investment this would be for us and decided that if we lost the investment we did not have enough working life left to recoup it. We turned them down.
We found out later that they were totally scamming us and that our investment alone would be giving them a half share in the property without them putting out one penny.

You don’t “want” to be a writer. You write. After work, on weekends, in the morning. You just do it. Being a writer isn’t like a 9-5 job you need time for. It’s a creative outlet. If she wanted to paint she wouldn’t need 40k, she’d buy some paints and take up the hobby. Maybe she’d get lucky, sell a book, have it become a bestseller, and then get to write full time. But everybody who has made money on books has written in their free time, until they got established. She’s comes across as very naive, not only about money and scammers, but how things like writing work too.

If you genuinely know what you’re doing and can handle the financial risk, you can sometimes see very high returns when investing in cattle or crop speculation. For example, certain meat stock can bring in $10,000-20,000 profit per animal, but you have to know your market and be able to withstand equally high losses. It’s basically gambling with animal husbandry. I would never do it, you can easily lose a quarter million in a bad year. The high profile are rare, not the norm, and are predicated on every star aligning, you buying the cattle at the right time, and selling it at the right time. Basically, short term high returns are always offset by extreme risk and not a sustainable business plan over the long term.

How in the world are these scammers able to find people that they haven’t even met that are willing to blindly send them money?!

      Easy: mass messaging.
Most people they contact will not give them one cent. But that does not matter because for the scammer, it is a very low effort possible exceptional high return kind of thing.
The scammer only needs one mark. Just one.
This means mass messaging thousands of people, daily, to get one mark who will fork over thousands. Once the mark is established as such, the scammer sucks them dry for all they’re worth.
Once you are confirmed as a mark, you got into a list that is passed around to other scammers. So virtually everyone who interact with online, from that point on, is part of a network of scammers.

Again it’s the same story! They never meet and they for some reason believe everything they hear from the scammer and then drain their bank accounts and retirement accounts in believing they are going to live in riches with the person of their dreams! I can’t even imagine going and looking houses to live with someone I’ve never even touched or saw in person! I just don’t understand the mentality of it!!!

I don't understand why anyone would consider buying a house with someone they have never met. Even if you have met, you live together first for at least a year before you consider something as long-term as buying a place together. You have no idea what a person is really like until you see them when they are in a bad mood, or sick, or cranky. You don't know their hygiene habits, how neat they are, etc. Not to mention why would you get involved with anyone before you've even kissed. Being good looking doesn't mean there will be chemistry in person. Ask anyone on dating apps who actually meets people for real dates. They wouldn't even set up a first date unless there was some sort of physical attraction, but we all know that most first dates don't turn into second dates because there is often no chemistry in person.

You're absolutely right after my divorce 8 years ago I used online dating sites to meet men. I would say 9 out of 10 of the men that I thought were attractive in their profile pictures online once I met them there wasn't any chemistry. That's why I think a first date should be ice cream or a picnic or a cup of coffee. No use spending a bunch of money on someone that you might not even like. As a matter of fact I would say that the more attractive men in their pictures once I met them I didn't Have much chemistry with them I have more chemistry with average looking guys.

The VAT is just a sales tax, isn't it!?! It has nothing to do with investments.

That is my impression as well. VAT is applied to purchases.
I order books and merch from Japan and VAT is part of the total amount that is needed to disclose when paying customs.

It's not a tax in every country either.
