  • LIVE: Volkswagen Employees Protest Over Potential Plant Closures as Pay Talks with Unions Begin
Volkswagen employees continue to protest over pay cuts and potential plant closures. Recently, media reports suggest that the automobile giant is considering closing some factories for the first time in its 87-year history as a part of its cost cutting strategy. Earlier this month, more than 16,000 gathered workers began the meeting by whistling and shouting "we are Volkswagen, you are not" after the company announced its cost cutting strategies.
On Wednesday Volkswagen AG and unions start negotiations over wide-ranging cost cuts. However, Thorsten Gröger, the union’s lead negotiator said, “There will be no talks about factory closures and mass layoffs with us.” Meanwhile, Daniela Cavallo, head of Volkswagen's works council said that when labour unions step into the ring with Volkswagen executives to fight over job security and plant closures it will be the '' darkest day so far."

This is great news, even if you have to feel sorry for the workers OF COURSE. BUT as soon as Germany leaves the EU/euro/support for the crackhead in Kiev etc NATO/eu/euro will fold and we will all be free. The sooner the better. same applies if those things were to happen either to Italy or France.

Firstpost need to provide the English subtitles for German language or i suggest Der Spiegel do translatoon. These are hard working German employees who needs to be treated fairly with realistic packsges in VW plant closings. VW should conduct themselves as good Corporate Citizens as they downsize operstions in Germany. I with concern and interest for the innocent employees of VW.

It is odd that no one mentions the Higher energy and raw material prices do to sanctions on Russia. It is also remiss, I am sure it just slipped their mind. the required sale of the VW plant outside of Moscow that produced 225,000 cars annually. Hardly worth mentioning the sales of those same 225k cars in Russia. I am sure the effects of these factors are negligible.
