The real issue is not that German companies like VW can't produce quality EVs. The problem is that they can't afford the exorbitant energy cost to produce the cars/anything...after their good friends blew-up their gas pipeline.
Biggest reason VW is closing down is Europes Green Energy policy on steriods, coupled with US pressure to stop energy from Russia. If either of these two things did not happen VW would be able to produce EV's and sell them in Europe. Their cheap energy would have offset Germany's higher wages. Of course I know. German automakers have made a fortune selling these gasoline cars in China for decades. But not any longer. VW used to be the largest selling brand in China up until 2023 when Byd overtook them. Their share has declined to about 14% from 20. Hi Palki. I love listening to the way you impart the news. Your voice is so clear and beautiful with perfect enunciation. Regarding the article, yes, I can quite understand how difficult it must be for the VW Group. Much of these problems are because the legacy auto makers did not get behind the rise of Evs. We can call it lack of foresight. We have a BYD Atto 3 here in Western Australia and it's amazing. Beautiful to drive and trouble free. I had a Tesla Model Y last year until it was written off in a no-fault accident. I am now about to buy an Xpeng G6 EV and really can't wait. If people knew how good these Chinese EVs are, they wouldn't even consider a German legacy brand like VW.
Germany has not lost it's cheap energy. The pipeline can still operate. But Germany (EU) has not asked Russia to turn the remaining pipeline on.... Somehow EU and Germany believe they are going to win a war against Russia before all these countries go bankrupt and citizens riot on mass. And EU is watching all their men die which will weaken them, unable to fight back against USA.
Indian manufacturers have no such incentive. First of all, in India's domestic market, they enjoy huge profits and do not have to face competition from foreign manufacturers.
Having the Norstream2 blown up certainly has not helped! That dramatically increased energy cost! This is an extremely painful stock to own. Debating on selling at the 52 week low because things are not looking good. Might be time to just take another huge loss.
Time to embrace Chinese cars. They are better quality with lower price. I myself just bought a BYD seal here in Indonesia. Remarkable value and quality.
Not sure why volkswagon is not going full throttle in India. It has been here for close to 2 decades and still not able to commit itself completely. Indians especially in cities are aware of the quality VW provides and people are ready to spend a bit more for safety and quality. However, volkswagon needs to rebrand itself when it comes to after sales and service being cheap and reliable and parts must be easily available and cheaper. Also they need to provide more models, updates , features over time(something kia and hyundai keep redesigning their models every 6months, eg: i20). India is i feel a big enough market and indians may not prefer chinese cars
The problem with European cars in general is that they are just way too expensive and have thus lost their appeal. They cannot deal with Chinese competition because their governments have left the greedy industrialists to do as they please.
As one comment on some other thread had put it, German cars in general stopped giving customers that one thing which Japanese and Koreans do - value for money.
your report lacks objectivity. The use of phrases like "China is taking away market shares from German manufacturers" and references to the "Wuhan COVID pandemic" raise concerns about journalistic neutrality. The term "taking away" implies a one-sided view, suggesting an unfair advantage rather than a competitive market dynamic. Additionally, labeling the pandemic by its place of origin can perpetuate biases and stigmatize a particular region, which is not conducive to objective reporting. Journalism should strive to maintain impartiality and avoid language that could be interpreted as biased or inflammatory. Objective reporting should focus on facts and present multiple perspectives to provide a balanced view.

So even with China VW could have continued. But with EU tariffs, China will no doubt put tariffs on EU goods and reduce exports to EU. This is not a China initiative. The blame rests solely on EU's compliance with US's fear of losing world dominance.

Little do people know, many people in China drives VW, Cadillac, Buick, Audi, and other foreign vehicles in addition to their own.
Of course I know. German automakers have made a fortune selling these gasoline cars in China for decades. But not any longer. VW used to be the largest selling brand in China up until 2023 when Byd overtook them. Their share has declined to about 14% from 20. That's the reason why they are going full steam ahead in making evs to regain market share. They have invested in Xpeng and set up an ev research and development centre in Hefei. They are coming up with many new ev models for yhe next 5 years by collaborating with the Chinese.

Yeah, I’m worried, but Indian mainstream media shouldn’t blame China for this. They often blame Pakistan for everything, as it fits their narrative.
So Germany is happy to send billiions to Ukraine but not VW.
when you lose cheap energy, you lose your industry. as simple as that
Germany has not lost it's cheap energy.
I wish Indian car manufacturers were as bold as their Chinese counterparts are to enter difficult markets and take challenges head-on.

Indians especially in cities are aware of the quality VW provides and people are ready to spend a bit more for safety and quality. However, volkswagon needs to rebrand itself when it comes to after sales and service being cheap and reliable and parts must be easily available and cheaper. your report lacks objectivity.
