Thank you 😊
I found Porcupine Tree by accident. I worked for a company in 2003 that emptied movie and tv studios vaults of all old beta digi max 3/4 tape and repurpose recycle and toss them along with random vhs and CD. I found the CD in a pile of random stuff and thought Porcupine Tree? Odd, lets give that a listen. I took it home and played it. Holy Fucking Shit!!! A Diamond in the rough.❤️😍
Awesome job for finding hidden gems
Your job must be the best ever!😍
@@theflyinghawk249 One of the eye-opening experiences about that job was how many Mom and Pop Porn shops there were. A LOT!!
My daughter first introduced me to Porcupine Tree about 10/12 years ago. Nothing remarkable about this you might think, except that she was 13 or 14 years old at the time. She was also into Opeth, System Of A Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the like. She encouraged me to check them all out (i'm a very old boy who has been into music since the 50s) and I'm glad that I did. Great Music! She is a huge Steven Wilson fan and so am I now.
Your daughter has a great taste, so do you. :)
great parenting, sir!
You're clearly doing something right. Rock on
Also digging this. My son is 40 years younger, listening for the first time today. Thanks, Sam!
Something tells me you raised your kid right
A taxi driver a few days ago told me about Porkupine tree and spoke highly of it so I checked it out. Must say, I was not disappointed!
He must have found the mastertape
I can't beleive I never listened to this band until now. This is just smooth, well-crafted, pretty, heavy, folky, progressive, sparkling, music. Too many influences and textures to try and deconstruct, but the end product cannot be denied. Pure pleasure through music.
I know that feeling bro 🥰
You must listen other Wilson's works. This is a whole world of music. 3 months ago I knew nothing about him. To my shame... But discover such things so amazing!
tres grand groupe. ecouter aussi DEADWING
We all did the same thing but hey what a journey ahead discovering porcupine tree an Awesome beautiful musical discovery ❤❤❤❤❤

Almost 60... Stumbled upon this album and this band 10 yrs after the fact. Still blows me away with every listen.
Me too, 63 this month. Got tickets for Wembley in November. Listening to Absentia now.

63 this year and I have always had a love for Prog rock all my life and was nearly convinced that modern bands just couldn't do prog right. I was proved wrong with the likes of Porcupine tree, Spocks beard, Marillion and one of my favorites Transatlantic. I love to put the headphones on and just get taken away by the music.
Cant believe I have somehow not known about this band till very recently. Turning 60 this month and it feels weird to be excited about a band again.
😢
Where has this band BEEN all my life?!?!?!😢
In absentia lol

This is the very first time I've even heard of Porcupine Tree.

I hear so many different influences in this well-crafted music.
Just incredible...!!!
you're in for a heck of a good ride sir! Their catalog is FULL of awesome songs!! Welcome to the party! :)

WOW I just found Porcupine Tree. The good news is I am getting time to spend with a new friend.
I don't think this will ever reach anyone but i gotta throw this bottle to the sea
I used to search for album videos to listen to while i was playing games with my friends, and walked upon this exact video around 3 years ago. Never heard of Porcupine Tree before, now they're my favorite band. Thanks for uploading this masterpiece
I think this a beautiful album in a very contemporary and almost sensual way. Some gorgeous guitar passages and Steve’s vocals are an absolute treat.
One of the greatest album. Makes me cry everytime im listening. The melodies ....oh my god 💕🎶
I agree and I feel the same
It does very little for me. I think it's decent, but it wouldn't make my top 100 albums since 2000. I much prefer Hand. Cannot. Erase. and most of Stephen Wilson's solo work.
I’m listening this album from the first time today….
Wonderful!!!!
You are a lucky soul as I was ❤️👌🏻
And me, now ...
this is one recording you never come to listen to just one song

What an absolutely cracking album. Steven Wilson, total legend
You know an album is a masterpiece when you continually seek it out many years after listening to it for the first time. In Absentia by Porcupine Tree is one such album. Favorites: Blackest Eyes, Trains, .3

It was 2002. 21 years ago. I knew early works of Porcupine tree. And then… In absentia. Everything changend. Beautiful music.
Tonight, my complete outlook on life was changed forevermore because I got to hear PT for the first time. Yes, this music is all I am going to need for the next chapter of my existence in the galaxy. Rebirth. Amen.
I heard PT when Steven Wilson started out, then I sort of overlooked future albums,I've since caught up & bought all the albums. Then while arranging a trip to Manchester I noticed that PT had reformed for what could be the last time they tour & they were playing in Castlefield Bowl Manchester,my son bought me a ticket & I got to see them for the first time, I wanted to remember this momentous occasion of this event so I took my small Zoom HD digital recorder and recorded some great moments which are on my channel including 3 tracks from this album, (put on the headphones or put in the earbuds for best sound & live the pure joy I had on this occasion,if you like it please subscribe. There's more bands/genres/venues to check out).
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all.
Listened when I was 13. 16 years have passed and they still sound good to my ears.
Heart Attack in a Layby IMO is one the saddest things yet so beautiful. Not having happily ever after cus you went for a drive after a fight with your wife and died of a heart attack on the side of the road thinking of the things you wish you had time to say but can't make it back to say them... so sad :(
totally agree (heart)
I remember the cover of this album standing out amongst the row of sample listen CD's at Virgin Records in downtown Newport Beach when it first came out. Such a great album. Was worth the purchase then, & is still a fantastic listen through now almost 20 years later.
It was 2002 or 2004 when I was surfing Napster and came and found this band. Since spent, thousands of euros for their exsitence.

First time I hear this and my gosh... I wonder why I've never heard it before? This is nothing short of musical genius, power and beauty.

Sure, it takes great writing to be able to produce music like this, but I think what's often overlooked is how well great musicians such as these, have an ability to genuinely LISTEN to good music !! Writing is important but listening is even more!
The last track is simply stunning.
Lyrics of all the songs of the album:
*Blackest Eyes*
Mother sings a lullaby to a child
Sometime in the future the boy goes wild
I know his nerves are feeling some kind of energy
A walk in the woods and I will try
Something under the trees that made you cry
It's so erotic when your make up runs
I got wiring loose inside my head
I got books that I never or ever read
I got secrets in my garden shed
I got a scar where all my urges bled
I got people underneath my bed
I got a place where all my dreams are dead
Swim with me into your blackest eyes
A few minutes with me inside my van
Should be so beautiful if we can
I'm feeling something taking over me
I got wiring loose inside my head
I got books that I never or ever read
I got secrets in my garden shed
I got a scar where all my urges bled
I got people underneath my bed
I got a place where all my dreams are dead
Swim with me into your blackest eyes
I got wiring loose inside my head
I got books that I never ever read
I got secrets in my garden shed
I got a scar where all my urges bled
I got people underneath my bed
I got a place where all my dreams are dead
Swim with me into your blackest eyes
*Trains*
Train set and match spied under the blind
Shiny and contoured the railway winds
And I've heard the sound from my cousin's bed
The hiss of the train at the railway head
Always the summers are slipping away
A 60 ton angel falls to the earth
A pile of old metal, a radiant blur
Scars in the country, the summer and her
Always the summers are slipping away
Find me a way for making it stay
When I hear the engine pass
I'm kissing you wide
The hissing subsides
I'm in luck
When the evening reaches here
You're tying me up
I'm dying of love
It's OK
*Lips Of Ashes*
Paralyzed
Lips of ashes
Synchronized
Blue vein crashes
Touching
Touching you
Inside, inside, inside
Inside, inside, inside
Inside, inside
Idolized
Black eyes fading
You and I
Connection failing
I drill
I drill down inside
Inside, inside, inside, inside
Inside, inside, inside
*The Sound Of Muzak*
Hear the sound of music
Drifting in the aisles
Elevator Prozac
Stretching on for miles
The music of the future
Will not entertain
It's only meant to repress
And neutralize your brain
Soul gets squeezed out
Edges get blunt
Demographic
Gives what you want
Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills
The music of rebellion
Makes you want to rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age
One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough
*Gravity Eyelids*
Open your eyes now
Hear me out before I lose my mind
I've been waiting for hours
Let the salt flow, feel my coil unwind
Give me a smile please
Count the calm and watch my breathing slow
Winding me up tease
Get inside my head and make it show
Oh, yeah, gravity eyelids, gravity eyelids come down
Oh, yeah, gravity eyelids, gravity eyelids come down
Touching your oil skin
Slipping hands down past your waist to find
I've been waiting for hours
Let the salt flow, feel my coil unwind
Go to the edge swim
Brown the eyes that sleep has rendered blind
Oh, yeah, gravity eyelids, gravity eyelids come down
Oh, yeah, gravity eyelids, gravity eyelids come down
Come love so young with your gold arms so I wake her
Here's a will that will glow in the dark
Oh, yeah, gravity eyelids, gravity eyelids come down
*Prodigal*
I don't know whose side I'm on
I don't think that I belong round here
If I left the stage would that be wrong?
I tried to find myself a better way
I got religion but I went astray
They took my money and I lost my faith
The rain keeps crawling down the glass
The good times never seem to last
Close your eyes and let the thought pass
I tried the capsule and I tried the smoke
I tried to aid escape like normal folk
But I never seemed to get the joke
The rain keeps crawling down the glass
The good times never seem to last
Close your eyes and let the thought
(Close your eyes and let it pass)
These are my old clothes
This is a new low
This is my blood flow
This is my headstone
I spend my days with all my friends
They're the ones on who my life depends
I'm gonna miss them when the series ends
Rain keeps crawling down the glass
(Pull yourself together)
The good times never seem to last
(You know it's not so bad)
Close your eyes and let the thought pass
(Close your eyes and let it pass)
These are my old clothes
This is a new low
This is my blood flow
This is my headstone
*.3*
Black the sky, weapons fly
Lay them waste for your race
*The Creator Has A Masterpiece*
He captured and collected things
And he put them in a shed
He raised a proper family
So he could tie them to a bed
The creator had a master tape
But he left it in a cab
I stared into the void tonight
The best dream I ever had
He worked himself into the ground
And drove a spike into his head
A voice said: "Are you happy now?"
"Your sordid home is running red"
The creator had a master tape
But he left it in a cab
I stared into the void tonight
The best dream I ever had
Pills and chloroform
All the pages torn
Pills and chloroform
All the pages torn
Pills and chloroform
All the pages torn
*Heartattack In A Layby*
I pull off the road
East of Baldock and Ashford
Feeling for my cell
In the light from the dashboard
Hissing from the road
The smell of rain in the air con
Maybe check the news
Or just put a tape on
Lighting up a smoke
I've got this feeling inside me
Don't feel too good
If I close my eyes
And fell asleep in this lay-by
Would it all subside
The fever pushing the day by
Motor window wind
I could do with some fresh air
Can't breathe too well
(She waits for me.
Home waits for me.)
I guess I should go now
She's waiting to make up
To tell me she's sorry
And how much she missed me
I guess I'm just burnt out
I really should slow down
I'm perfectly fine but
I just need to lie down
We'll grow old together
We'll grow old together
We'll grow old together
*Strip The Soul*
This is my home, this is my own, we don't like no strangers
Raise the kids good, beat the kids good and tie them up
Spread it wide, my wife, my life, push the camera deeper
I can use, I abuse, my muse, I made them all
This machine
Is there to please
Strip the soul
Fill the hole
A fire to feed
A belt to bleed
Strip the soul

They are not gone, they are not gone, they are only sleeping
In graves, in ways, in clay, underneath the floor
Building walls, overalls, getting bored, I got faulty wiring
Brick it up now, brick it up now, but keep the bones

I won't cover my head in the dark
And I won't forget you when we part
Collapse the light into earth

I've been a fan of prog rock since the 70s and I'm only now finding out about this band. I reviewed this album here before I bought it. And now you have a new (and older😀) fan. Great!
Well then, I had waited to listen to Porcupine Tree until today. As an Opeth fan, I felt super nostalgic with a side of deja vu. So far this feels like if Damnation and Blackwater Park were merged into one super album. I'm happy.
Every track is amazing. Especially that second one. Just *chefs kiss
As a 64 year old woman who loves music, I'm a first time listener to this, and I loved the whole thing. added to my playlists. Fabulous!
The Best stuff on earth ! Pure greatness ! Porcupine Tree/Steve Wilson has been my favorite music for the past 14 years.
I've been listening to this album for almost 15 years, around this time in 2007 we were given fear of a blank planet, I had in absentia and deadwing prior, but I turned 21 in the October of 07. here we are still listening and loving today in 2021, 2 weeks from my 35th birthday

How beautiful is this album
Não conhecia esta banda até uns 3 anos atrás. Hoje estou com 62, nunca é tarde para curtir e divulgar. Parabéns, muito bom o álbum. Falata música boa hoje no mundo, nas rádois, nas mídias e nas festas.
One of the best offerings from a truly superb band.
PT will never fail to amaze you with their unique music, I love all of their albums equally, but honestly "in absentia" is the one I find myself listening to the most.. it has a certain diversity to it, each song is beautiful in its own way, and gives you just what you're looking for in a song.. My personal favorites are "blackest eyes" " trains" and "heartattack in a layby" something about this last one just deeply touches my soul.. I've never heard anything quite like it before.. it is what beautiful melancholy would be if it were to be a song.. especially when John Wesley and Steven Wilson's voices beautifully harmonize at the last part.. GOSH .. it takes my whole body and soul to another place ..
I'm so grateful I've been listening to this band for a few years now.. best thing that could ever happen to anyone honestly.
Gavin's drumming is so blissful to hear through headphone
Absolutely!!!
Gavin is SOOOO brilliant...he can play anything, unlimited chops and complexity, but it ALWAYS FITS!! He never overplays or shows off. Yup, he's an absolute pleasure to listen to.😉
An addictively macabre album that I now can't stop listening to
Steven Wilson is my hero! He's got PT, his solo career, old IEM, No-Man & their podcasts. He's written & published his book "A Limited Edition of One" plus his many producer credits from XTC to Opeth, Jethro Tull & everyone in between. He just needs to start solving mysteries on tour in an old school VW van with Barbieri, Gavin, (& maybe Mike Tyson tripping on his Bufotenin toad venom.)
Just been told about Porcupine Tree by Graham, my lovely new Liverpool painter! Wow. Thanks Graham!! Amazing.
Listening to these masterful musicians more and more. Got to make the best of this shite year.

Hard to pick a favourite from an album that has litarally not one weak song . But if I have to, it would be The Sound of Muzak. There is something magical happening in the chorus, the harmonies and melody is haunting, in a good way.

A near perfect album. The diversity of message and themes not only force you to listen, but to FEEL. Personally, I haven’t given Steve’s solo work a serious listen to. It doesn’t grab me immediately like the first time I heard PT.
Nothing is more beautiful than “Collapse” or interpretive. I listen and it inspires me to not succumb to my depression of which I suffer severely. Only true art has the ability to transform and lift up. Though not with us anymore, I am thankful PT’s music is always available.

We had to pick one album for colleagues to listen to for social distancing - I used this one...
what a song!!!! It transported me to a better place!
Porcupine Tree is more than a reflection of an era. It is a phantom asteroid who returns to set his sights on sound art. A decadent wave laden with paradoxes from which obscurantism and the irrational escape, hypnotic factors defying vulnerable souls in search of the absolute. This sound architecture is a short tunnel that leads to light !
Had a gentleman mention this band to me after we had a brief conversation about the powerhouse prog band RUSH and one of my personal favorites Dream Theater. I figured he knew good tunes and so far so good!! I have another band to share with fellow musicians thanks to a stranger in passing. Thank You Anonymity. ;)
Yes, if you like Rush and Dream Theater, you will like Porcupine Tree. And if you wanna get more darker and heavier while keeping the same feel somehow, try Opeth. There is collaboration project between PT and Opeth as well!
Try Steve Hackett’s recent work and live shows keeping the music of Genesis alive
@@robertosborn409 Steve Hackett my favorite guitarist saw him with Genesis wind and wuthering and solo when he left and seen all the recent show including revisited and selling england by the pound
how did I not hear this band before ??? from Brazil!!!!
i got my tickets to see Porcupine Tree live in Laval Québec in september 2022
listening to this while writing a story, fantastic experience
these guys are freaking incredible! I'm sad coz I just got to know them now, but happy coz this is the first album that I am hearing from them, which means that I have still plenty to listen to
check out Deadwing too it's legit.
