For the people asking where to buy: This album came included with the 2-CD set of Signify (Special edition). I just checked Amazon and other retailers and unfortunately it seems the album is pretty hard to find these days... You can find it second-hand (there are a few listings on eBay, for example) if you're willing to pay a significant (😉) price for it, but make sure you get the Signify *2-CD* SET! If anyone knows of a good place to buy the album, let me know and I'll pin it here!
I HAD THIS ALBUM ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO ... AND I FORGOT ABOUT IT. Jus' started listening to this ... an' after two songs suddenly it dawned on me! ( wow I'm gotten' old! ) - AWESOME ALBUM! R A W K !!!
I always tell people that PT is the greatest band in the world that nobody has heard of ! Such a shame, because they are simply outstanding ! Steven Wilson is my idol :)
I watched PT open for Yes in 2002. It was a musical epiphany! My fourth such, in fact. My "Big Three" of Rush, Yes, and Pink Floyd, became 4 that evening.
The first few lines are haunting ..as this was my sons favorite band and he just passed june 2nd 2023 ...❤❤❤❤Luv you Steven Wilson and Gavin Harison you were his favorite drummer and you both became special fir me ..listening to porcupine tree brings me to my boy ...and I am gratefull beyond words to all of you andcthe music you bring to life❤
When Hallogallo began I almost moved on but then these great drum bits kicked in and am I ever glad I stayed. This music got real good, fast. I'm a new fan.
Thanks Oscar. Hard to believe the work of this tremendously talented band remains virtually anonymous throughout a large majority of the United States.
+Randy Setterberg I love this band, and they are so gifted and all their music is just creative and awesome. I wish they were more popular in the states. For me , this is one of the versatile bands ever and i never tire at listening to them.
Waiting for the Day that I will stay to Listen Again, Again and Again! Just a Beautiful Version of Waiting with it’s Hypnotic Vocals, Guitar Riffs, Sound Scapes!
There is so much material to absorb, It will take you years to listen to it all. I discovered PT about 15 years ago, and wore it out till now, and I still am discovering stuff I'd never heard of.
I thought my iPhone was just playing some P/T from my collection and this song called Smiling not Smiling comes on. Wow, I haven’t heard this before. That soaring guitar!! I’ve listened to P/T twenty years and just found a new song!
Got tickets to see them tonight at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. This will be my third time, at least. Steven Wilson might be the greatest of all the British, as well as, European composers of all time.
It amazes me that i had not heard these songs since around the time this video was uploaded. It is hard to find these songs anywhere other than RUclips. I see in the comments people still leaving comments only a few days ago! I would have assumed this album would be long forgotten to time.
One of the many beauties of music, is how it can seem to have a relationship to, and with, any visual and give it meaning. Am not knocking your ethereal moment. Just pointing to one of it's special qualities.
Porcupine Tree- ''Insignificance'' , released in 1997 Songs / Tracks Listing 1. Wake as Gun 1 (3:25) 2. Hallogallo / Signify (6:58) 3. Waiting (6:52) 4. Smiling Not Smiling (3:52) 5. Nine Cats - acoustic Version (4:05) Total Time 50:20 Line-up / Musicians - Steven Wilson / vocals, guitars, keyboards, samples, programming, production, etc. - Richard Barbieri / keyboards & electronics - Colin Edwin / bass - Chris Maitland / drums, percussion
I had a PT " binge," from 1999 through about 2014 with Steven's solo albums! So back now, and it's great to have PT / Steven back in the heavy rotation, again!
It was a fan club only cassette release with outtakes from Signify, the probably sent out a couple of hundred copies and then forgot all about the songs on it.
This is actually Steven Wilson by himself, performing everything as demos for the band, before release. There is a NEU! cover that inspired the Signify track, an early version of Waiting, an interesting version of Nine Cats with acoustic guitar and maybe we can spot Syd Barrett influences on Smiling not smiling. Dark Origins is obviously the early idea that evolved into Dark Matter, as is the drumloop of Neural rust. One track that is missing from this album and is also missing from the finalized Signify album is "The sound of no-one listening" which can only be found on the Waiting single as b-side.. but the structure and the chords of this track are pretty similar to Neural rust. P.S. Notice an extra verse of lyrics at the end of Nine Cats, not present in the original version..
Uau... Que bela e bem-vinda lembrança dos tempos do "Signify". Só fui descobrir "Insignificance" essa semana e não consigo parar de ouvir. Na boa, talvez ele seja tão bom quanto o próprio "Signify". Que álbum! Que álbum!
This is the first song my goddaughter heard me sing. She was a few months old, not falling asleep, screaming and crying. I took her in my arms, I started humming and she fell into a deep sleep all of a sudden, head in the stars 🕌💫
Make sure you listen to EVERYTHING by them. Once you're hooked, you'll never look at another band the same.. Ptree and SW -perhaps the greatest rock / prog artist in the last 60 + years! I mean that. Seriously.
I'm just working on Porcupine Tree right now since I only learned of them about a month ago. Right now Signify is the album I'm getting into. Next will be Absentia.
Catch some of Steven Wilson's other projects with No Man, Blackfield, I.E.M, Storm Corrosion and Bass Communion. If you like Porcupine Tree, you may like his earlier works.
I was in the fan club's mailing list and I got the original tape in 1996 right after the release of the Signify album. The tracks have been remastered for the 2ble cd version we hear here. In the original tape they had lower sound quality.. Eventually, my copy of the tape was slashed to bits by my tape player.. Pity, it would be a great collector's item, if it survived.
BRutall este disco!!! muchas influencias del buen rock, grunge, psy todos juntos!! Me recuerda Anathema y todas sus fases de cambio de géneros musicales.!!!!
My error. Hallogallo was by Neu! another pioneering Krautrock outfit. It was on their 1972 debut, don't know why I thought it was Can. Both groups are worth checking out, if your'e interested in the roots of today's prog.

I like it
I have had the Signify "CD Set" for many Years. At some point it's sold out. Having everything from PT is not possible.
And we can't just buy this online? I'm not overly attached to physical CDs; I just want to pay for the music I listen to.
Discogs has most of what we need, most of the time :)

One of the greatest prog rock bands on this planet. Amazing musicians
seriously. they really are. I love porcupine tree and steven wilson so much
I think this is a criminally underrated Album...i and ill go as far as to say, in my honest opinion its a masterpiece
Only criminals underrated it...those without crime relish
I always tell people that PT is the greatest band in the world that nobody has heard of ! Such a shame, because they are simply outstanding ! Steven Wilson is my idol :)
One thing about being a PT fan..you will always find hidden gems sooner or later..thank you sir
Still enthralled in 2023. Steven and ALL genius here... Much love.
I got to see Steven in a very small venue. Wow, what a great show.
I watched PT open for Yes in 2002. It was a musical epiphany! My fourth such, in fact. My "Big Three" of Rush, Yes, and Pink Floyd, became 4 that evening.
How could no one have commented on this for 5 yrs? Some great music here
Comment
Don't worry mate. We all come back here once in a while
Too busy enjoying this amazing album to comment I guess. One of their best.

What an amazing album. So good to listen to, so eclectic, so mind blowing.
Wow. Genius …pure and simple
Thanks Oscar. Hard to believe the work of this tremendously talented band remains virtually anonymous throughout a large majority of the United States.
+Randy Setterberg one of the best live acts I've seen in my 51 years. Steven is amazing.
+Charles Taylor Having caught him once with Porcupine Tree and twice solo, I'd have to agree. He also surrounds himself with some amazing musicians.
+Randy Setterberg I love this band, and they are so gifted and all their music is just creative and awesome. I wish they were more popular in the states. For me , this is one of the versatile bands ever and i never tire at listening to them.
Saw PT three times in Seattle and Steven solo last year. All shows sold out he's pretty popular up here in the PNW.
That's because everyone's too busy watching American Idol ..
Waiting for the Day that I will stay to Listen Again, Again and Again!
Just a Beautiful Version of Waiting with it’s Hypnotic Vocals, Guitar Riffs, Sound Scapes!
Stunning album, can't believe it's two decades old.

This album is great. I can't get over how excellent it is!!!! What a great band!
Hard to believe I never herd of these guys before what a blessing it is now
Welcome to the club my friend! Steven's solo work, "Blackfield" and "Storm Corrosion" (2 of his many side projects) are also incredible 😉 Enjoy!!!
If I could get back to being fifteen and discovering Porcupine Tree again, I'd do it no questions asked.
There is so much material to absorb, It will take you years to listen to it all. I discovered PT about 15 years ago, and wore it out till now, and I still am discovering stuff I'd never heard of.

psst... there's a whole playlist here on RUclips of unreleased stuff
This is really great. Some of these I've never heard before.
So grateful for this! thought I had all albums, and then I stumble into this! Much obliged.
Lol, nobody ever has all their albums lol.
I heard this sometime after I first heard the album Signify. I hadn't heard it much since. Great stuff.
Got tickets to see them tonight at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. This will be my third time, at least. Steven Wilson might be the greatest of all the British, as well as, European composers of all time.

This is the first time that a collection of rare demos is a masterpiece
I'm listening to this album while looking at an old train yard and think of the days gone by. The breeze feels good today
One of the many beauties of music, is how it can seem to have a relationship to, and with, any visual and give it meaning. Am not knocking your ethereal moment. Just pointing to one of it's special qualities.
thought i recognized HALLOGALLO.
I see you commenting everywhere, I'm glad we get to share music interests :)

Question, why is this album not listed in Porcupine Tree’s recording list? I don’t see it available for purchase at iTunes or Spotify.
@@58jaz I think that's because this album is a collection of demos and rarities from the ''Signify'' sessions.
I had a PT " binge," from 1999 through about 2014 with Steven's solo albums!

Brilliant, genius, makes my soul relax and feel like I'm home.
I only know one song in this album. Great to discover some Porcupine Tree songs that I never heard before. Thanks for uploading this Album ! Cheers.
Esta é uma banda que dispensa comentários simplesmente excepicional eu gosto muito.
Il y a assurément quelque chose de génial dans cet album...💚💚💚
As a Huge Fan, I never knew this existed But Thanks for this Great Video because it has extended my listening pleasure for this Great Group!

ummm... ok?
Exellent band perfect music thanx for posting
I really thought I had everything from PT, including some pretty obscure stuff but... never heard this collection before. Thanks! I'm loving this!
I thought I'd heard everything PT had done. Guess not. Thanks for uploaded. Some really cool stuff here
Thank you for your thoughtfulness in sharing these gems with us.
Only just getting into PT and this is awesome! Loving it.
thanks so much for that essential upload .. the world was in dire need for this ♫
Right off I can already tell that I am going to love this band
First time hearing Stevens and the porcupine Trees work, fantastic stuff.
One of the epic albums ever written by Porcupine Trees
Thank You for Posting This.
thanks for uploading the whole masterpiece
Procupine Tree é uma banda diferenciada e esse disco é uma prova....demos e raridades e ainda sim é um disco muito acima da média.....
Exotic intoxicating exhilarating earworms. Epic soundscapes. What a journey
Came here via Blackfield, why have I not heard this before. Loving this album.
Perfect album for a wintery, Sunday afternoon
Disco con fuerza. Los conocí hace unos años; buen descubrimiento. Gracias.

Actually, "The Sound of No-One Listening" can be found on Stars Die - The Delerium Years 1991-1997
@@scottbaker5998 Indeed, but that is some 3 or 4 years after its original release as the b-side of "Waiting"

Thanks for putting this together!!
Love these guys.
Thank you that was very good... loved it
Ciertamente P. T. es una banda cuyos temas tienen la estructura de canción que le dan una vuelta de rosca al Progresivo.
Awesome. Sublime. ❤⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
never heard of these guys before but they sound good so far
Steven Wilson is a genius. He collaborates with so many different people to develop his unique sounds. I especially like his works with Guthrie Govan.
I'm just working on Porcupine Tree right now since I only learned of them about a month ago. Right now Signify is the album I'm getting into. Next will be Absentia.
I'm enjoying it already. Signify is an excellent album and I just listened to In Absentia this morning.
I've listened to parts of several albums and don't think I've heard a bad song yet. Got to thank my friend for telling me about them.

'Nine Cats' is wonderful!
I would play this on my college radio show when it first came out! I was pretty lucky!

This was a cassette only release sent out to fan club members in 1997. It's a pretty rare item, in fact there is only one copy for sale on discogs.

Nice version of Hallogallo from Can, the German Prog group of the early 70's. PT's version is a bit mellower.
My error. Hallogallo was by Neu! another pioneering Krautrock outfit. It was on their 1972 debut, don't know why I thought it was Can. Both groups are worth checking out, if your'e interested in the roots of today's prog.
