I used to drink 2 pots a day (black) and could sleep like a baby, so I doubt my 2-3 cups (my limit now) a day bothers my blood sugar. Thanks for the info Dr. Engin. I got my A1C down from 12 to 6.5 in like 4 months. I have been having problems recently with protein in my urine and I figured out I wasn't drinking enough water. Now I feel fine, so what I thought was a Diabetes problem was a lack of hydration problem. DRINK WATER FOLKS, lots of water, not Gatorade.

Dr Amed, I basically stumbled on your videos, thank goodness. I live in the Canary Islands, and there is really no help for diabetics, and what to eat, not to eat, apart from being diagnosed, and told to not have anything with sugar in it, and to read all packaged foodstuff for sugar content. Nothing about carbs, very little about oils/fats, so you will understand my long hard suffering with high sugar readings, frustrations, and all sorts of complications like foot ulcers, etc. Since listening to your videos, for the 1st time in 12 years of diabetes, my readings have been really good and more consistent for a week now . Big, big thank you, I am so grateful for your information. I am now purchasing everything fresh. No more pre-packed foods, nothing out of bottles, tins, etc. No more foods marked "suitable for diabetics". Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You are my official house doctor although, we never met!! My doctor here in Munich Germany says that all your advice is the correct way to beat diabetes and that I should continue your advice. My a1c was 8.8 in end July 2021 and now at end of September my average fasting blood sugar has dropped to 6.1 and I have lost 15pounds. Size 10 now size 8. It took me to be diagnosed with diabetes to really take my health seriously and also I'm loving my new figure!!

Coffee has been my favorite flavor since I was 4 years old, and I still crave coffee today. As a toddler, I never cared for milk, so my father flavored my morning milk with a few inches of coffee, which made it palatable. Sunday mornings, my father treated me to a whole cup of coffee.
I was diagnosed with T1D in 1963, and always start my day with five or six cups of coffee, sweetened with Sucralose and flavored with unsweetened almond milk or 1% milk. I have worn a CGM for years and wear the t:slim pump with Control IQ, so I know that I am affected by the dawn phenomenon. BG rises without eating anything, so I have programmed a higher early morning basal rate to compensate. Coffee raises BG too. Occasionally, I treat a hypo with a glass of 1% coffee-flavored milk.
Coffee-flavored items, including Kahlua and Tia Maria liqueurs, coffee ice cream and coffee candy are my downfall, so I rarely purchase these items anymore. I could devour a carton of coffee ice cream in one sitting. Trader Joe's has a 45-calorie cold-brew Latte dessert bar if anyone is looking for a low-calorie coffee treat. After a run on a 90-degree summer day, it's hard not to eat all six bars.

My fasting is now running about 115 and I drink coffee with just a very small amount of half and half all day. I have almost completely cut out diet drinks and for the first time in my life without help I'm staying the same weight or losing.

I agree, coffee raises my BG in the morning close to 40 mg/dl with no sugar and or carbs. Even with coverage of insulin due to the dawn phenomenon. At night or past 4pm, a coffee will raise but my insulin resistance is much lower and its only like 5 to 10 mg/dl. I keep my glucose lower to around 80s to lower my overall insulin resistance as well. Non diabetic humans have fasting BG in the mid to low 80s assuming they are healthy.

If you blend your coffee with a couple of small leaves of lettuce in the Vitamix or with chia seeds, it may lessen the spike. A good blender will make it so that the mouth feel won't be so notably different. The chia seeds will make your coffee quite a bit thicker though. The couple of lettuce leaves is a good way to get some Vitamin C.

My gut feeling is that coffee is an artificial stressor ( cortisol and epinephrine inducer) crhonic use gets the body isulin resistant and confuses the body as energy is FORCED to stay in the blood and not stored in liver , but if you do not use the energy and the glucose continualy floats in tthe bloodstream what do you do!?

Love your video content. Very interesting … was wondering about decaf? I can’t have caffeine due to A-Fib, therefore all I drink is my morning DECAF coffee (3cups with cream or half n half, no sugar) and water the rest of the day. I don’t spike after drinking it. I may go up to 117-120. Does that sound ok? I usually don’t eat breakfast, but have a brunch or lunch. I’m pre-diabetic, insulin resistant, hypothyroid and have a history of A-Fib.
Thank you for caring and sharing!

Before being diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic, I was obese and a good friend advised to have 1,250 mg green tea extract + 200 mg caffeine first thing in the morning . So I've been taking these pills for maybe 2 years. Do you think that those pills have contributed to my diabetes?
