please do a vocal analysis on tallah- L.E.D (one take vocal performance)their vocalist justin bonitz is extremely animated to the point you can see how his whole body affects his voice
He used to sound like that, but he´s getting older and he doesn´t have the energy he used to anymore. But to be clear that´s natural and more than understandable after all these years :D
@@DangeHD I've seen them live three times and I cannot say he doesn't have the energy. His voice isn't what it was fifteen years ago (Rise Against sadly also usually don't have the best mix live), but he always gives it all on stage. No pun intended :D I guess early on in his career he didn't take care of his voice enough, but it's never a lack of energy or effort
I remember when I first heard Rise Against. And they have been on my playlist ever since. 10-15 years I've been listening. And I have to say, their live performances are even more incredible. Tim McIlraths voice could hush the entire crowd. or make everybody scream at the top of their lungs. with barely an effort. truly awesome.
If i may make a suggestion for a band to analyze in a future video: AFI. AFI was one of the big powerhouse emo/pop punk bands of the 90s and 00s. Davey Havok has such an unmistakably beautiful, dynamic voice, and a total mastery of his craft. He's also a beautiful man.
I loved the older, hardcore and later emo-punk stuff; As I've gotten older, I've also _really_ come to appreciate their modern post-punk stuff, a lot. AFI is still just an incredible band. I like Davey and Jade's side project Blaqk Audio a lot, too.
Rise Against and Bad Religion are delightful bands. It's amazing how they take some 'simple' punk chord progressions, up tempo drums, and passionate vocals and make absolute magic out of it.
This is one of my all time favourite bands. I love Tim's voice, I love how they play with tempo shifts, I love their lyrics, their energy, all of it. But more than anything else, I love how every part of their music speaks to me from a place of deep, deep compassion and thoughtfulness. And I think no song encapsulates what I mean better than "Tragedy + Time" and I would love to see you react to it. The song, to me, is about the importance of acknowledging and accepting sadness and grief as a necessary part of life, in order to be able to overcome and grow out of it. It makes you feel seen, it gives you hope and perspective and it is one of those songs, that has probably saved thousands of lives already. And I think a lot more people out there could use a song like that, so I'd be very happy if it could find a platform on your channel. Lots of love to all of you. I second that she should react to volbeat. Lonesome rider, Lola Montez, heaven nor hell, fallen, or cape of our hero would all be great choices, but that whole outlaw gentleman and shady ladies album is fantastic
yes!! I'd love to see this. I think something like the live version of For Evigt would also be an interesting watch for her with Olsen featuring, such different voices but both powerhouses!

This song kinda triggered something in me many years ago. It wasn’t a new song to me, I had been listening to it since it came out and seen them live a couple times. It just didn’t really hit me until I was in a certain situation and happened to hear it. That day I made a choice to make a change and walk away from someone and something that I had put many years of my life into up to that point, trying desperately to make it work despite all the bullshit. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I realized that the mental toll it was taking on me wasn’t worth what I was getting in return, so I walked away. It’s weird how you can hear a song countless times and then when you hear it at the right time and place it can have a completely different and profound effect on you like that. Either way, I’ve never looked back since I made that choice, and the only thing I’d go back and change is that I wish I had done it sooner.
I'm sorry about the situation you went through for this song to click. So many songs I've listened to all my life have had multiple personal interpretations depending on my age, experiences I'm going through, or different moods while listening. It's what I love most about music and really highlights great and timeless song writing imo.
This song hits me hard too. Not 100% sure why. But it just resonates. Maybe it is the message of the song with the chaos of the music. Sometimes I swear my brain won't switch off and the noise is just all over the place.
Loving this breakdown. If you find time, please do Re-Education through labor. Another good one and especially thought provoking. From what I know about this one, they highlight the Elephant and the polar bear, it could be interpreted as a political statement.
I've always listened to this song as an un-love song. Like two people in a relationship that have just grown apart and don't know how to go about going their separate ways
'Swing Life Away' was my wedding song. To give you a different side of Rise Against. This video has a 2 minute "interview" at the beginning for you to hear his speaking voice: ruclips.net/video/kNSyriOFPPA/видео.html
it was mine too! Although we're no longer together it still holds such a special place in my heart, what a beautiful choice to make to express love and a relationship
The way his voice keeps stepping up in intensity, from the line "there's no time like the present, to drink these draining seconds", then up to "seldom do these words ring true...", then again at the bridge; it makes me think of the times in a conversation where someone is either not understanding (perhaps wilfully, but not necessarily) or is intentionally trying to push you, until at the chorus, feeling like the moment when it's been enough and the reaction is finally, 'alright fine, you wanna have a fight, let's fight.' and just throwing down. I would really love to see your reaction to Black Honey by Thrice.
RA my favourite band and have been since 2006. A few facts. This song almost didn’t make the album, the band didn’t particularly like it, their booking Agent told them they were idiots to not include it. So they did, and it became their biggest song. Tim would also be cool to get an interview with. He’s one of the nicest guys in rock ‘n’ roll and up until 2017, nine years after this song was released. He had never had a singing lesson, but his voice started to play up, and he started to Get issues on an off stage. He got vocal training in between their album, wolves and their latest album nowhere generation. The difference in his voice between those two albums is crazy, because he has found a way to bring the grit back into his voice without destroying his voice. And that’s basically 20 years into his career. Anything from the albums, revolutions per minute, siren, songs of the counter culture, the sufferer and the witness or Appeal To Reason is basically solid gold. And the latest album, Nowhere Generation is brilliant because he has been able to let loose vocally in a way he wasn’t able to sustain for a good few years. Because of vocal lessons.
Yeah when she was mentioning that his voice sounds like its almost about to break, its because it was, no training and screaming like he was was unsustainable but produced such a raw emotionally driven sound that resonates in such an awesome way. the nowhere sessions of the classic songs show how big the change in his voice was after vocal training, the songs are completely different.
Glad to see you take a look at one of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite bands. If you're going to check out more songs by them, I would heavily recommend Satellite
How charismatic you gotta be to really dig into every single nuance not only on Tim's voice but also all the work involved in it's production. Bravo, this was a joy to watch!
@@chrisklema9992 That's how punk mosh pits are supposed to be like. Wild as hell but when someone falls you pick him up. You rage against the society, not against your fellow punks.
I dropped my glasses once in a pit of theirs, and someone picked them up off the floor and gave them back before they got stomped on! I had just enough time to yell thank you before getting moshed in the other direction. It's still one of my favorite concert memories to this day!
That is fact. Saw them with a day to remember in New Mexico, and actually fell in the pit, just to be picked up immediately. Didn't even get to thank whoever it was. I was very appreciative.
A true gem from Rise Against is their cover of Little Boxes. Even though it's short it really showcases what Tim can do with his amazing voice. 100% recommend.
Paper wings is a really good one from rise against. I may be incorrect but to me I believe its about addictions. Should definitely be the next one you do if you haven't already
@@N7Slayer i will! I'm 18 years clean so that always touches me a little differently. Wasteland by 12 years is another good recovery song along with Hate Me by Bkue October
This song always reminded me of a woman who I loved when I was younger but let go of my life. Two years ago we connected again thanks to this song and living together now!
Rise Against has been my favorite band for 15 years now; it's so great hearing such a detailed and enthusiastic review of their music. If you find yourself looking to do another RA analysis, I'd recommend "Ready to Fall" to get Tim's hardcore vocals on full display.
Elizabeth, I've been following you for a short time but I just love the your reactions. Rise Against has been my favorite band of all time since I was 10 (I'm almost 29 now). I would love seeing you react to some other songs such as Hero Of War, Swing Life Away, Re-Education (Through Labor), Ready to Fall... I mean, all their songs are so good and impactful, but these are one of my favorites. Keep up the great content. Love from Brazil!
I love Rise Against! Please check out Coheed & Cambria! Claudio's voice is amazing! "Welcome Home" or "A Favor House Atlantic" are both great intros to the band.
I like Blood Red Summer because it brings on his vocals a little slowly. Also, his lip piercings were new at the time and he can't stop licking them in the video.
I'd love to hear your analyses of Hero of War and Make it Stop (September's Children). They're extremely heart wrenching but so well written and so soulful.
Rise Against's social commentary is one of the best. All of their songs find a way to speak truths that are hard for most to hear. Their entire discography is good for the compassionate human that hides in each of us.
I know this band from a Game OST on 2004 (NFSU2), after that it follow them and now are ones of my favorite bands, i had the fortune to see them on live, and was amazing!! definitely i will not miss this video, regards from Chile.
The ballad of Hollis Brown.. is a masterpiece of Ups and downs in vocals to get ur nerd on. Please check it out even if u don't use it on ur channel it'll change ur life. Thank you Elizabeth your awesome
I really enjoy your break down of some of my favorite songs. Feel like I hear them in a different way, through your expression and explanation throughout. Looking forward to more.
The producers are Bill Stevenson (also the drummer for The Descendents, ALL, and at one time Black Flag) and Jason Livermore at the Blasting Room. They've done most of Rise Against's albums as well as a lot other punk bands over the last 20 years or so, and I've always loved what they do. They manage to keep the raw power and emotion in there while putting a lot of ear candy in.
I wish I was more on the ball with seeing your channel/vids because I could gush over Rise Against and similar bands for ages about being such a rebellious genre but with all these messages about positive activism and perspectives on people almost left behind by the system or with more complicated stories than you may see from the outside. It was what I took away from "give it all", "hero of war", "help is on the way", et cetera
I first about about RA in 2006 and saw them live in Austin. I've always love Tim's clean vocals and also his raspy screams! He's easily one of my favorite song writers still to this day
FINALLY!!! MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND!!! First CD I ever got at a kid was their first album! Watch Give It All for their original sound. And Help Is On The Way is a heartbreaking one reminding me of hurricane Katrina. But I literally have never heard a song from them I didn't like! Those are just a couple to mention. I've got a hell of a lot more to suggest for any purpose! That'd why I love them!
Been a huge fan of Rise Against for over 15 years! I strongly recommend checking out “Tragedy + Time” and “Make It Stop (September’s Children”. Two songs with very powerful messages!
This is the song that REALLY put Rise Against on the map, so I'm glad to see it get it's moment on your channel. I'm actually shocked this wasn't the one you started with a few months back when you did Prayer of the Refugee. If you do another song by them, I'd love to see you do Tragedy + Time.
Elizabeth per our live chat discussion the vocals remind me of Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day! Especially at the beginning and in the verses in the chorus not as much. My suggestion is to check out Green Day as soon as you can. My point overall is awesome vocals by Tim McIlrath and the very energetic band that is: Rise Against! My favorite from them is: The Good Left Undone! I’m a drummer and I dig it! Love the time signature switches!
It's honestly a shame Tim completely broke his voice because of the early punk days, luckily he's getting back up to it again! Last album and tour he sounded so much better
Seen them for their Black Market tour some years ago now and I felt like he was struggling to sing it. I actually really respected that though, he had to of known he was struggling, yet he ploughed on anyway. Was still an awesome show.
Saw them at Louder Than Life a couple years ago and he sounded amazing, but some songs are difficult for singers to perform after so many years. David Draiman is a good example, he's an amazing vocalist but some songs he just doesn't have quite the same voice as he use to 20 years ago.
Honestly, every song from Sufferer and the Witness is a melter. Front to back, the album has stayed close to my heart since I discovered it in my teens as the introduction to this band. That being said, Injection will never, ever be skipped in my household.
My favorite rise against songs this one, re-education (through labor) and tragedy plus time. But there isnt a song in rise against's discography thats bad. Every song has purpose and drive, and the lead singer just gives his all in every song. Ive loved this band since i was 14 years old and i still listen to them at 24 years old.
Regret produces my favorite art. Thoughts of the girl from a lifetime ago cross his mind. And, while so many details have faded from memory, their last conversation echoes crystal clear.
Rise Against are one of the few survivors of the punk genre after pivoting to a more poppy sound. Which is to say, yes, their instruments tend to fall apart in their music videos.
Production was done by Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore. Bill Stevenson got his start in the punk band The Descendents. There is also a version of Savior from the album the Ghost Note Symphonies. Rise Against has recorded many of their albums at the Blasting Room with the team of Stevenson and Livermore.
I love the analysis E! Would love to see you dive more into Punk and Ska. The Offspring, Bad Religion, Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish are all great bands that would be fun to dive into!
It took me longer than it should have to appreciate Rise Against, which is surprising considering that I have been listening to bands like RATM and Bad Religion for years. Now they are a core part of one of my playlists.
Savior holds a special place in my heart. Was the second song I heard from Rise Against and the one that sold me on the band. Been listening to them ever since. I would love to see Tragedy + Time. Was a song that helped me when I was in a dark spot
Its so nice seeing rise against get more attention, they are my favorite band, and they have affected so many peoples lives in so many ways, they are a true voice for change and I'd love to see you listen to even more rise against music. Personally id recommend Make It Stop! (September's children)
Man.....i really hope you have a chance to get to Swing Life Away. The song that introduced me to Rise Against, and a really great example of their range and heart.
Rise Against is never a band I actively listen to anymore, but I still have all their music downloaded. Its a great time when just shuffling through music on a long drive and a track comes on.
I think Rise Against is the only band I listened to in my early teens that still hits as it did back then. Everything else either doesn't get me as excited anymore (at least not as much as Rise Against) or it's just lacking the energy I need in my music (Dear Maria by whatever-they-were-called is a good example of a song that bores me to death). I can legit put on headphones and listen to the same albums of Rise Against that I listened to almost 20 years ago and still have the best time I can imagine having with music.
People who are very depressed and deal with those intrusive thoughts are some of the nicest people and that want to help make others smile because they don't want anyone else to experience what they do.
Rise Against has been one of my Favorite bands for almost 20 years now. A couple songs you could look at that would be interesting to hear your take on would be "Give it All" and "Swing Live Away"
If you're dipping your toes into punk my I recommend a few songs from on of my favorite bands, Against Me!: Pints of Guinness Makes You Strong (I prefer the version from The Acoustic EP but its a fantastic early song of theirs), 8 Full Hours of Sleep (This is the song that made me fall in love with Laura Jane Grace's voice there's a comfort to in it), Black Me Out (More of what you would think a punk song to be) and I'll stop with the songs Thrash Unreal and Stop from the album New Wave (These are probably Against Me!'s most recognizable songs I know when i was going through their discography they stood out as songs I heard before knowing them)
I would also recommend Baby, I’m an Anarchist, and You Look Like I Need A Drink for early AM! stuff, and Norse Truth, and Paralytic States for later AM!
RUclips really didn't notificate me... 😭 You need to hear these songs by Rise Against!! Injection Blood to bleed Ready to fall In those 3 songs, Tim's voice is beyond amazing
I think a great way to see how far he's come as a vocalist is by listening to "Voices Off Camera" which is one of their earliest songs and then follow it up with "Forfeit" off their newest album. Granted they are two very different styles but I still think it shows just how far he's come
Elizabeth, thanks for introducing me to another great artist. I suggest everyone check out your library of videos, as they will likely learn of a new favorite. My new favorites are The Warning, a power trio of 3 sisters from Mexico and Angelina Jordan, a self taught jazz singer who can sing just about anything. I have no doubt at all, both will be creating awesome music for decades to come.
@@bse523 Since all songs by The Warning are short, I vote for two songs from their August 29th 2022 concert at Teatro Metropolitan. Can pick any two as there isn't a bad one.
You’ve got to listen to Knower, I recommend the song Overtime by them, you will be beyond blown away and on a whole new journey with the number of “unknown” talent in that band. Beyond belief.
Suggestion time again! Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) Recentish version of Lauren who can sing beautifully and scream with the best of them.

This band has an endless amount of amazing songs. I hope you get to hear many more! One of my all time favorite bands.
This was my number one song of the year on my Spotify wrapped. Glad to see you enjoy it as well. Will never skip this song.
Rise Against fans are the nicest people I’ve ever met in a mosh pit. Not even kidding.
EDIT: Check out the reply below by @hollence…
I've seen good pits for bayside and a7x too. had my glasses kicked off by accident and they walled off the crowd so i could find them.
God I wish I could see them live
This song is such a banger that it never left my playlist.
Almost 20 years later and I'm still listening too.
A true gem from Rise Against is their cover of Little Boxes. Even though it's short it really showcases what Tim can do with his amazing voice. 100% recommend.
Paper wings is a really good one from rise against. I may be incorrect but to me I believe its about addictions. Should definitely be the next one you do if you haven't already
injection about drugs 2
@@N7Slayer thanks! I'll check this one out too
@@chadrichards6607 all right, lemme know if you liked it
@@N7Slayer i will! I'm 18 years clean so that always touches me a little differently. Wasteland by 12 years is another good recovery song along with Hate Me by Bkue October
Such a good song.
The a "car"pella version of the gutter is amazing by Coheeed
I love "In keeping secrets of silent earth 3" by them. banger song
I like Blood Red Summer because it brings on his vocals a little slowly. Also, his lip piercings were new at the time and he can't stop licking them in the video.
Yes! I'm begging for Coheed!!!
Another vote coheed, In Keeping Secrets is a perfect first listen for Claudio's range
I'd love to hear your analyses of Hero of War and Make it Stop (September's Children). They're extremely heart wrenching but so well written and so soulful.
I love Rise Against. I still have “Satellite” on my running playlist and they have been in my ear during some of my important moments.
+2 to satelite, it's such a banger
Ah, been waiting for you to cover more Rise Against, and this is a perfect song for it. Next, I want "Disparity By Design".
Rise Against's social commentary is one of the best. All of their songs find a way to speak truths that are hard for most to hear. Their entire discography is good for the compassionate human that hides in each of us.
Saw these guys live at Alexandria palace in London, was surprisingly brilliant
I know this band from a Game OST on 2004 (NFSU2), after that it follow them and now are ones of my favorite bands, i had the fortune to see them on live, and was amazing!!
definitely i will not miss this video, regards from Chile.
Injection?
actually, the song was "Give it all". Fire song 🔥 Greetings from Chile mi pana!
Thats right, I was thinknin Tony Hawk Underground or whatever @@careccio905
Hell yeah! That was my introduction to Rise Against as well. 😁
The things I would do for a remaster of that game
The ballad of Hollis Brown.. is a masterpiece of Ups and downs in vocals to get ur nerd on. Please check it out even if u don't use it on ur channel it'll change ur life. Thank you Elizabeth your awesome
I am so excited for this!!! Please do Swing Life Away or Make It Stop next
Please more Rise Against. Such a great band with powerful songs and meanings. Audience of One is a great one if you need a suggestion.
This one!! I think she'd love it!
I first about about RA in 2006 and saw them live in Austin. I've always love Tim's clean vocals and also his raspy screams! He's easily one of my favorite song writers still to this day
This is the most love-filled, angry song I've ever experienced.
Every once in a while, I come back to see if she's listened to any more Rise Against.
Two songs with very powerful messages!
god this band is so underrated please do more rise against
This is the song that REALLY put Rise Against on the map, so I'm glad to see it get it's moment on your channel. I'm actually shocked this wasn't the one you started with a few months back when you did Prayer of the Refugee. If you do another song by them, I'd love to see you do Tragedy + Time.
Rise Against is one of the most underrated bands. They have so many songs that are bangers, yet really go unappreciated.
Pretty much every song on "Siren Song of the Counter Culture". haha.. State of the Union in itself would have killed mine..
Seen them for their Black Market tour some years ago now and I felt like he was struggling to sing it. I actually really respected that though, he had to of known he was struggling, yet he ploughed on anyway. Was still an awesome show.
They were great when I saw them in Dallas earlier this year!
Saw them at Louder Than Life a couple years ago and he sounded amazing, but some songs are difficult for singers to perform after so many years. David Draiman is a good example, he's an amazing vocalist but some songs he just doesn't have quite the same voice as he use to 20 years ago.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Rise Against and your analysis! Such a dynamic band and sound. 🥰
This band is great!
My favourite songs are:
"Worth Dying For", "Drones" and "Collapse (Post-Amerika)".
worth dying for is such a fun song, so punchy. always gets me amped
Drones is fantastic
Honestly, every song from Sufferer and the Witness is a melter. Front to back, the album has stayed close to my heart since I discovered it in my teens as the introduction to this band. That being said, Injection will never, ever be skipped in my household.
There’s Footage Of Tim Coming Up With Vocal Melodies On The Fly By Singing Gibberish Whilst The Whole Band Is Jamming, Such A Creative Band!!
Hero of war next plz
My favorite rise against songs this one, re-education (through labor) and tragedy plus time. But there isnt a song in rise against's discography thats bad. Every song has purpose and drive, and the lead singer just gives his all in every song. Ive loved this band since i was 14 years old and i still listen to them at 24 years old.
I suggest checking out their song Swing Life Away. Not a destructive video and calmer song. It's one of my favorites.
Regret produces my favorite art.
Thoughts of the girl from a lifetime ago cross his mind.
And, while so many details have faded from memory, their last conversation echoes crystal clear.
Oh snap! This is one of my all time favorite songs. One of these days I'll get to see them live.
Seen them a couple times, absolutely awesome live
One of my fav shows ever see them if you can!
Oh this is gonna be a good one, Savior is one my favorite songs from Rise Against. Really fun to drop this one during a karaoke session.
Rise Against are one of the few survivors of the punk genre after pivoting to a more poppy sound. Which is to say, yes, their instruments tend to fall apart in their music videos.
Even though they went more poppy, they still kept their punk edge at the same time.
I keep rise against and bad religion on my phone and always come back two those two in particular.
Rin! You're here too!! 🤣
@@snomeD-83 Dats right! 🤣
Same with Me, Tragedy + Time is very powerful song!
I cant count the times I heard this life and sang along and cried and danced..one of their best songs❤
Ok, lets savor Elizabeths Reaction when she savors "Savior" 🙂👍
Rise Against is never a band I actively listen to anymore, but I still have all their music downloaded. Its a great time when just shuffling through music on a long drive and a track comes on.
Would love to hear you do a Jane’s Addiction song. Perry Farrell has such an unusual voice. A great band from the late 80s early 90s
Jane says / I'm done with Sergio...
Love this song and this band! Also a huge fan of the acoustic version off of their Ghost Note Symphonies album!
People who are very depressed and deal with those intrusive thoughts are some of the nicest people and that want to help make others smile because they don't want anyone else to experience what they do.
Do iced earth - A question of heaven. Matt Barlow is one of the greatest signer of all time. His range is great and way too underrated.
Rise Against has been one of my Favorite bands for almost 20 years now. A couple songs you could look at that would be interesting to hear your take on would be "Give it All" and "Swing Live Away"
"Time & Tragedy" is an exceptional good song from their more recent album.
House on fire especially the acoustic version has a deep place in my heart.
You need to hear these songs by Rise Against!!
Injection
Blood to bleed
Ready to fall
In those 3 songs, Tim's voice is beyond amazing
More Rise Against! Swing Life Away is a polar opposite from Savior, you’ll love it!
Bill Stevenson produced this, he plays in The Descendents. Check out other works/production by him!
More of my favourite band! I'm excited for this one
I second The Warning! They are incredible. I'm thinking either Error just for the power in the chorus or Revenant just for the story behind the song.
@@bse523 Since all songs by The Warning are short, I vote for two songs from their August 29th 2022 concert at Teatro Metropolitan. Can pick any two as there isn't a bad one.
Swing Life Away should be the next Rise Against song Elizabeth analyzes so she can discover the range of their singer!
Satellite is that one song by them I never change when it comes on 🔥
Thank you sooooo much for giving rise against the time of day! They are my favorite band since I have been alive (Boston is my favorite)
Have you done rise against hero of war ?
House on Fire. The lyrics are beautiful and poetic. Its angsty... its about him being a first time father... its well beautiful.
Rise Against-Elective Amnesia is just so fricking amazing
You’ve got to listen to Knower, I recommend the song Overtime by them, you will be beyond blown away and on a whole new journey with the number of “unknown” talent in that band. Beyond belief.
Suggestion time again! Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) Recentish version of Lauren who can sing beautifully and scream with the best of them.
