The 50mm 1.8 is fantastic. It’s the perfect lens to start with. Like you said there’s compromises but I get excellent results with it. Own the 35mm 1.8 and I love that one as well.
I'd say that this is the perfect lens for somebody who was just getting their first post-phone camera and wanted to experiment with what a Real Camera can do: maybe they're not sure if they want to get into video, or whether they want to shoot street, or landscape/wildlife, or just vacation/party snapshots. In particular, the wide aperture capability of the F1.8 is really a good way to learn about depth-of-field and what all this talk of 'bokeh' really is. Is it going to be the *last* lens you want to buy with your new camera? Definitely not. But as the *first*? Depending on whether or not you know what you're doing and what exactly you're trying to achieve, maybe....
I have the RF24 to 105 and the RF 100-500. I wanted a prime in the 50mm range. I bought this for 99.00 at B&H. For a hundred bucks I am not disappointed. Fast AF. Photo's are very good. Light easy for walking around town,
I have 50mm F1.2 and literally bought this lens today. The reason is how compact that is and wanted to have something for day to day, travel, general purpose. Carrying those heavy lenses is exhausting and discouraging for those casual shoot.
That's the perfect use case for it! I personally love the 35 f1.8 that's a neat little everyday lens with stability and great versatility. Thanks for the comment. I need to save up for the 50mm 1.2.
So glad that someone else sees this lens for what it is. I was a proponent for years for the EF-50 f1.8, the original nifty-fifty (well maybe not the first nifty-fifty). This is NOT a nifty fifty price/value lens. Its soft, has focus breathing, no weather sealing and all the other things you point out. Picture quality is poor! I wish there was a RF-50 mid-range price-wise between this f1.8 and the super-expensive f1.2. I used the EF-50 f1.4 for a long time and was pretty happy with it.
Actually it is the same value for money if you consider the inflation we had since the release of the original nifty fifty this is much cheaper and aligns with the price of the last nifty fifty corrected for inflation.
I got the nifty 50 alongside my R10 last August and I frequently use it for close-up shots and other situations where the 18-150 kit lens is not ideal.
Thanks for the question! There is no alternative that is the same price and the same focal length. I love the 35mm RF. But it is slightly more expensive. Check out the links in the description. The lenses often are on sale.
Wow! What a great idea for a video! If you know how to hold a camera steady then it will be OK but it also depends on the shots you're trying to take. @conormalinois I think the 35mm is the best stm for the R8. It a cheat code. It's probably my most used lens on the R8 because it's so good for everything. The auto focus is on point and the IS is a must.
I have both, and I hear you and agree with alot of what you're saying. But I love how light the 50mm is, and I love the focal length. For photos it's a good compromise, for video I wish it was better but I'm def not disappointed in the nifty 50.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Agreed, I wish it was better for video as well. The AF stutter is really surprising to me. I believe the 35 is superior. But I am fortunate and grateful to be able to own both. Thanks for the comment and the view!

What's the camera body? For the price there is no other better deal than the nifty fifty. Like I mentioned, the nifty fifty is likely everyone's first prime lens. It's just so affordable that it's hard to ignore. If you had a little bit more of a budget i would ask you to look at the 35mm. The 50 on a crop sensor is close to an 85mm and that's a little tight. But the 35mm on a crop is a 56mm. Fyi
@juancarloshorta1934 love the Canon R8. I filmed a lot of stuff with it using the nifty fifty and the 35. Awesome combo. Notice that the 50mm does not have image stabilization. The 35 does have IS. This is important because the R8 does not come with IBIS
I can't speak to the actual lens you mention but I can say that I like focal lengths between 35mm and 50mm. Very easy to work with and an good for everything kind of focal length.
Great review and insight. Im a new comer to photography and tried out my wife's nifty fifty EF 1.8 lens on my R8 this past weekend. Me being a newbie and coming from a kit lens, this blew the kit lens out of the water. Even with its limitations, it was a treat finally seeing good photos come out of this camera. Cant wait till i can afford some better glass. Thank you and keep doing what you're doing.
Oh it will absolutely beat out any kit lens! Thanks for the comment! It's a super lens if you understand the limitations. I aimed to provide people with an alternative. The RF 35 is so nice for everyday. Thanks for the view and the comment!
Thank you, I had just put the 50mm in my shopping cart and switched because of your advice... :) But before I actually buy the 35mm, is it good for Portraits too?. I love Macro and Landscape Photography and looking for basically and "all in one" for everyday walk around lens.... Hoping it's good for landscapes as well?? Thank you
Thanks for the question! In my opinion, the 35 is a much better walking-around lens. And it's more balanced. In addition to it's versatility you can record some killer videos handheld. I bet that in time you will end up grabbing the nifty fifty just because it's so affordable. But like my video says, if I had to pick one it would be the 35. Let me know how it goes and I hope you enjoy the lens.
I just got the R8 last week and realized very quickly how horrible the kit lens really is. I was getting ready to buy the nifty fifty because I'll be taking some product photography for my business, but decided to look for reviews on it and the 35mm 1.8. Found this video and your other one (where you use the 35mm for product photos) , and I promptly dropped the 50mm from my cart and added the 35 1.8. Thanks for the solid review! I'm looking forward to using it.
Very cool! The RF 35 and a few others have the macro capability, which makes it really nice for product photography. I use my R8 for product photos all the time! Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help.
What do you expect from a lens at its price point? It's a banger lens for beginners, and even as a professional I still use it for fun. It's light and the best thing about this lens is if it's damaged it's not hurting the bank and you get fantastic images with it. Hope this helps your algorithm.
I own the EF-S version as well. And it does not compare to the RF version. The EF-S version does have a closer focusing distance though. Both are good lenses but I prefer the RF version. Thanks for the question!
I don't think you are fair here. The RF 50mm f/1.8 is a great lens for the price. And I would only compare it to the EF 50mm version. The RF is better in all terms here. Yes the 35mm is better for sure. But also twice the size and price. You are comparing apples to oranges. You get what you pay for. And the RF 50 is worth the money.
All of these cons you mention are completely to be expected of the lens, no one who has any experience at all would expect more and i don't think a beginning photographer even cares that much. And none of the shortcomings are actual deal-breakers at least not for me. I'm not a professional but i have been a serious hobbyist and done many gigs over the last 15+ years so i do know something about the gear and i'm still absolutely going to buy this one, should be arriving next week actually. To be fair this isn't something i'd buy as new, i got a good second hand deal and i do already own the 35mm for example so this is just an addition to the collection. And what would be the alternative for this if you want an affordable 50mm? None of the dark zoom lenses, that's for sure. And if you aren't a professional and don't want to or can't spend thousands on the f/1.2? EF versions are always an option but i would think a new RF lens tops them easily in performance and is a delight to carry around. So yeah, i'd absolutely recommend this lens to anyone who's interested in it.
Fantastic comment! Thanks for your input. 👍 You're a hundred percent correct. Great for everyday use and walk around lens. 👍 I do love the 35mm more though. I love the stability on it for video and short form video creation. 🎥📸 Consider sharing your social media so we may all see your work. Thanks again!
I wish this existed when I started off. I bought it for portraits, and would switch out of it frequently. I liked it a lot when I got it, and told others to buy it. But I’ve recently sold it, because it collected dust.
I feel exactly the same. It was good when it was the only lens I had. But you grow out of it quickly. As I was editing this video I was hoping I wasn't to harsh or critical of the lens. Thanks for the comment and your input!
That's a tough question to answer. More information is needed. 🤔 How much space are you working with? What is a vodcast? I assume you mean podcast but I am uncertain. 🧐 Will there be more than one person? 👥 Is it all talking head? 🗣️ A good general purpose focal length for a full frame camera is about 24mm. Somewhere in between 16mm to 28mm is a sweet spot. 👍 Thanks again for the question and the view!
Okay, I won't buy the lense. Thanks for the warning because others have compared it favorably with the 50mm 1.2 l lense. But my question is about the "small rig" I noticed in your video. What's that for? Can you do a review of that? Is that something that I should have for a Canon R5?
Thanks for the comment! I would be happy to review the smallrig cage. It's designed to provide a ton of mounting solutions for anything you may want to add to the camera. You can really build it out if you want to. I use it everyday to provide a small amount of protection to the camera. It's not designed to protect the camera. But it's literally a metal cage. I provided a quick video about how I use it below. ruclips.net/user/shortsvJOW3d4Jj0w?feature=share Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help.
This is why I still wait to buy new lens from third party. Currently I use R5 with EF 70-200. I really want to have a couple of small prime lenses such as 14mm, 35 1.4 or 50 1.4 but canon doesn’t have one to offer. I can’t those cheap plastic lenses due to optical glasses, loud auto focus, focus breathing, and not focus confidently.
Thanks for the comment! It's a little frustrating. I do really like some of the STM lenses though. The RF 35 and the RF 85 STM are really good in my opinion. Have you tried them?
@@TMVVisualMedia I've tried the 35mm macro, the auto focus was ok but when attached to macro extension tube it became struggle and I will not be able to use clip in ND filter in front of my camera sensor. Unlike rf 100mm macro. I like the size and weight of those cheap plastic lens whenever I think of traveling and using the DJI rs 3 mini. By the way, Nikon just announced 180-600mm similar to Sony version but about 300 bucks cheaper. I wish canon made that instead of 100-500 with darker aperture and damn expensive😅
Well it depends. for video 35 is obviously better. For photography; if you're more macro, wide, animals etc then again 35, BUT if you're looking to mainly photograph portraits of people without dropping thousands. You absolutely should buy the 50m
Thanks for the comment! I really like the 35 for full portraits too. I can usually get a lot more of the scene in the frame. Have you tried the rf 35 on a crop sensor. It's great.
Since almost all Japanese 50mm lenses are essentially copies of the century old Zeiss Planar designed in 1896 it is hardly surprising that this lens has many faults when you are looking too hard. Buy the ZEISS Otus 55mm f/1.4 if you want state of the art. At the very least this lens fills the 50mm role admirably at a great price and surprisingly some of us actually have a need for the 50mm focal length where the 35mm is not suitable. In my case I went for a Zeiss ZE classic 50mm f/1.4 in Ef mount.
A "standard" focal length 50mm lens on "full frame" camera generally does not need IS unless shutter speed slower than 1/50 second. On "crop" camera this speed is below 1/80 second. Not too hard to take a photo above these shutter speeds without IS. Also "breath control" and avoid muscles "tensing up" helps considerably...I can get down to 1/8 second without excessive blur. However I have come to realised most people who have come from a smart phone camera do not hold their cameras correctly with their elbows sticking out to the sides...This will almost guarantee a blurred photo. I am pretty sure that the user guide of even my most recent and advanced cameras still have instructions on how to correctly hold the camera. Read your manual and you likely won't need IS on a 50mm used on a full frame camera.
Wrong. Its not only because of the "low price" (which is in fact far from low, considering the EF 50 1.8 STM cost less than half but is THE SAME!) Its because of form factor. Combine a RF 50 1.8, alternatively a super expensive 35mm 1.8 IS with a EOS R, RP or R8 and you have a dream point and shoot combo in 50mm/Fullframe or a 35mm. Also, i would even say its one of the sharpest 50mm primes i have ever used, especially at F2.8+. Noticable better than the old nifty fifty (the non STM version), anyways better than the horrible EF 50 1.4 "USM" which goes 2nd hand for about the price of a NEW (!!!) RF 50 1.8 Also, if you are doing focus pulls... have you ever tried manual focus? Its much smoother and precise to control! Its not too slow in AF as well... my EF 50 1.4 was probably even slower!
As someone who has been doing video and photo for a long time, this is a great lens for the price point. I haven't seen a lot of visual issues with this lens yet with photos. I personally never use it for video and will only use the 50mm L for that or cine lenses. I think sometimes we forget that certain gear is photo first and not always meant for video. Great review and love the honesty. There are way better options for video but you will pay more to get it.
Awesome feedback! I agree with you. I think the 35 is plenty affordable and the video that comes form it is very nice. Perhaps I just like 35 focal lengths. The RF 35mm 1.8 is a neat little lens. Thanks for the kind words and the view.
as a videographer who has both the 35 and the 50 stm lenses, i agree that the 35 is far better for video, however the 50 works great with my r8 for some nice close up angles
@@TMVVisualMedia one more question I got 4 u is wil u do a review of the canon rf 28mm wen that comes out in a few weeks, curious how it will compare to its older brother the rf 24mm
I didn't think so. He makes a good point.. there's a lot of talk about this being a great lens.. AND that it's cheap... Not that it's cheap, and good for the price. I was pleasantly surprised to hear an honest opinion that was critical. Plus, he offered a better alternative, the RF 35. There is so much hype on the Canon mirrorless stuff it's hard to weed through and find the truly special ones. So, I appreciate it.
I’ve been shooting since dark room days and I’m super impressed with my RF 50mm 1.8…. I’ve had both the EF 50mm 1.8 and 1.4…. It’s a HUGE STEP UP FROM BOTH….
You brother I think the strength of your channel is honesty something very very hard to get these days,so many good photographers start very good creating very nice RUclips content but somehow got lost down the road due to? You guess it money!!!!! Today you gained another channel follower, muchas gracias por la honestidad sigue así que quizá tendrás menos dinero pero seguidores fieles gracias a ti.
I am not entirely sure of the actual optics is made of some sort of plastic. I do know that higher end L glass has some sort of specialty glass or a coating that makes it more expensive. On the Nifty Fifty though the body is entirely made of plastic and not the higher grade composite material. Similar to all the other STM lenses. Still plenty good though.
The RF 50mm is a sharper lens compared to the old EF 50mm F 1.8 it replaces. If you are willing to close it down the aperture one stop, say to F2.8 it will deliver much better image quality. I have them both and concur on your conclusions, the RF 35mm is a sharper and more versatile lens, but the RF 50mm I would not consider it "garbage" or useless. I believe you get what you pay for it
I totally agree about stopping it down to f2.8. I prefer 2.8 for most lenses. Agreed it's not garbage or useless. But it does collect dust on my shelf. I'm fortunate to be able to own both. Thanks for the comment!
Of all the reviews I’ve listened too I’ve only Hurd that it’s a good beginner lens when you start out and don’t have enough to get an expensive one and also to learn about lenses bc amateur can have a great lens and take bad photos
I'm very very very happy with my 50 rf f/1.8 lens. I'm using it on my R10 and these two are my number one toy :) I think you harshly criticized this gem. Disagree, sorry.
And yes the rf 35 is tons better but it's also 500 bucks and most ppl looking for lenses usually just bought a 1800 plus on a camera and the 50 is a huge step up from the kit lens.
Congrats on reaching your goal 😂, I'm truly happy for you🎉🎉🎉. As for the lens, I really love this lens and love 50mm range. Some of my best shots came from rhe nifty fifty and still use it all the time. Sure other lenses have more features, but 50mm warp facial features less than a 35mm. Sure the 35mm give you a love of the environment, but the 50 give you a good amount also.
Thanks for the comment. I also love the 50mm range! Very good everyday walking around lens. But I prefer the look and all the features that the 35 has. If they made a stabilized 50 with macro abilities that would be a killer lens. Thanks for the view!
I think this lens is just fine and for 200 bucks 160 on sale all the time iv gotten AMAZing photos from this lens a 10000 dollar lens isn't going to make you a better photographer automatically and you sound like a high fancy better then thou person dragging on this lens i recommend this lens to anyone that has just recently or within there first few years of taking photos your solely looking at this lens from a professional stand point and it's not that and no one's ever said it is its a great fast lens and if your any good with a camera at all you'll be able to utilize this lens and make great photos not everyone has a budget for l glass or 800 dollar lenses not everyone is pixel peeping and making cinema quality videos this lens is perfectly acceptable and amazing for any person who isn't a pro just tryna walk around and snap photos of there family or events they attend or get together or days nights out on the town. The rf50 is plenty fast plenty sharp and just flat out good and in controlled situations with lighting and everything it stacks up in image quailty to other lenses above its weight class. This video seems to be what's wrong with photography these days making everyone feel like they NEEED to spend thousands of dollars on gear to get photos that anyone would say were good and that's not true i could take the nifty fifty AND HAVE ° to paying jobs and used for portraits and photo sessions and got very very good ohotos and never once has a client ever said i don't know about this you only have the rf 50mm lens so your ohotos are gonna suck or damn is that the 70-200 f2.8 L series canon rf lens niiice other photographers yes clients Never Once. Quit pushing this narrative I get it L glass is amazing and weather sealed and blah blah but they aren't the only way so.eone will have fun with a camera or enjoy photography. Okay that's my rant Thanks
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate your opinion. You should make a video about it. Also, feel free to share your social media so we all may see your work. Thanks again.
I just bought both the Rf 35 and RF 50 1.8 It is my opinion that you're way off on your assessment of the 50mm for photography. Sure, it's not the RF 50mm 1.2 but for the price the results are excellent. Because of it's size, price and image quality I'd reach for 50mm nine out of ten times over a larger more expensive equivalent. If I need absolute image quality I'll use my Sigma 50mm Art 1.4
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your opinion! I'm curious about your thoughts are about the nifty fifty vs the RF 35mm. Thanks again for the comment!
Did you really expect perfection for $200? The lens is fantastic for the price. There's nothing wrong with it. You just need to use it more often ☺. But, the RF 35/1.8 Macro isn't perfect either and somehow you love it. I remember trying the old EF 50/1.8 II on my 5D2, it felt extremely cheap. However, the pictures were fantastic. The classic Double-Gauss bokeh, the sharpness when stopped, it's all great (if you know what you are doing). It wasn't supposed to be perfect then and it isn't now. It's a classic Planar and a good one.
@@TMVVisualMedia Well, I respect your opinion. Thank you for sharing. But, honestly, for what I'm shooting, my EF 40/2.8 STM seems like a much better lens, than the RF 35/1.8 Macro. It is optically superior and $300 cheaper. It's not as fast, but it has no nasty CA or fringing in high contrast detail. No lens is perfect 😉
@0ecka agreed amigo! Thanks again for the view and the comment. Consider sharing your socials so people may see your work. Excited to see your work if you decide to share.
It's an $80.00 lens and the hype for these RF lenses is horrible..... these plastic lenses suck ass and Canon went with this line to make profit and I mean a lot of profit..... I was disappointed with my 50mm, but I am very happy with the RF 28mm 2.8 ..... now the 28mm is tack sharp and perfectly for a walk around lens ..........but I love pancake and love travelling light !!!!
Sorry - but I have to disagree with your arguments. Nobody claims that this cheap lens is technically on the level of expensive glass. But it is good enough for nearly everything. On the internet you can find awesome pictures made with this Nifty Fifty, with excellent quality. And because the lens is so small and light you get shooting opportunities not possible with cumbersome and heavy lenses.
we cannot exclude the quality/price ratio when talking about this lens. for that price the quality is excellent, you can't expect more. it's obvious that if it's talked about well it's because of the quality/price ratio. a video would have been more honest where you explained why it's useless for videography... are we really complaining that it isn't weather sealed or that it has aberrations at full aperture?
Facts!!!! Yo I tried the 35 on the R7. Killer combo. It's effectively a 50mm focal length but you get the stabilization and macro ability. It's perfect 👌🏻 Might make a video about it now that I think about it. 🤔
You also forgot to add it has terrible cat's eye bokeh, plastic aperture blades, strong vignetting and is very soft in the corners until stopped down to at least f4. It also flares easily and has bad coma until about f4 again. It's a dreadful lens.
Check this out if youre feeling stuck. ruclips.net/video/Cm7viJyirAg/видео.html
The 50mm 1.8 is fantastic. It’s the perfect lens to start with. Like you said there’s compromises but I get excellent results with it. Own the 35mm 1.8 and I love that one as well.
Thanks for the feedback!
I'd say that this is the perfect lens for somebody who was just getting their first post-phone camera and wanted to experiment with what a Real Camera can do: maybe they're not sure if they want to get into video, or whether they want to shoot street, or landscape/wildlife, or just vacation/party snapshots. Depending on whether or not you know what you're doing and what exactly you're trying to achieve, maybe....
Excellent points!
Thanks for the comment and your thoughts.
I 100 percent agree with you. Best beginner lens around.
I don't like extra sharp lenses for video so I would keep one of these in my bag for clinical interview stuff I won't spend a lot for that look.
@highlycreativedigital5472 that's a good use case for sure.
I have the RF24 to 105 and the RF 100-500. I wanted a prime in the 50mm range. I bought this for 99.00 at B&H. For a hundred bucks I am not disappointed. Fast AF. Photo's are very good. Light easy for walking around town,

The 50 on a crop sensor is close to an 85mm and that's a little tight. But the 35mm on a crop is a 56mm. Fyi
@@TMVVisualMedia That is interesting. I'm using a Canon R8. Thanks for the information.
@juancarloshorta1934 love the Canon R8. I filmed a lot of stuff with it using the nifty fifty and the 35. Awesome combo.
Notice that the 50mm does not have image stabilization. The 35 does have IS. This is important because the R8 does not come with IBIS
What do you think about the ef40mm f2.8?
Awesome feedback! Thanks for the comment. You deserve a pinned comment.
Thanks for the view and comment!
Even just shooting still photos I don't like the sound of the lens making noise while it's focusing. My Sony prime lenses all Focus silently
What about EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM? Can it compare with Canon rf 35mm..?
I own the EF-S version as well. And it does not compare to the RF version.
The EF-S version does have a closer focusing distance though.
Both are good lenses but I prefer the RF version.
Thanks for the question!
I don't think you are fair here. The RF 50mm f/1.8 is a great lens for the price. And I would only compare it to the EF 50mm version. The RF is better in all terms here. Yes the 35mm is better for sure. But also twice the size and price. You are comparing apples to oranges. You get what you pay for. And the RF 50 is worth the money.
I agree with you entirely! Thanks for the comment.
Actually the 50mm is $100 and the 35mm is $400. so its 4x the price.
You're a hundred percent correct. Great for everyday use and walk around lens. 👍
I do love the 35mm more though.
Do you got any suggestions for a lense doing vodcasting at home?
That's a tough question to answer. More information is needed. 🤔
How much space are you working with?
What is a vodcast? I assume you mean podcast but I am uncertain. 🧐
Will there be more than one person? 👥
Is it all talking head? 🗣️
A good general purpose focal length for a full frame camera is about 24mm. Somewhere in between 16mm to 28mm is a sweet spot. 👍
Thanks again for the question and the view!
I tried this lens and the chromatic aberration is like hell while using on canon r7. However Rf 35mm is a superb lens as u mentioned.
Thanks for the comment!

It's great.
Excellent video 📹
Good advice 👍
Hi compatible Buddy 750D canon ?
Nope. Will need an adapter.
@@TMVVisualMedia bro what lens prime lens ang good brand ?
@BOSSM12-bg9iw try anything from Canon. It's the best.
Thanks for the comment. I wonder why 50mm doesn't have IS?
Yep....still there. Look up "Hold the Camera"
Wrong. Its not only because of the "low price" (which is in fact far from low, considering the EF 50 1.8 STM cost less than half but is THE SAME!)
Its because of form factor.
Noticable better than the old nifty fifty (the non STM version), anyways better than the horrible EF 50 1.4 "USM" which goes 2nd hand for about the price of a NEW (!!!) RF 50 1.8
Also, if you are doing focus pulls... have you ever tried manual focus?
@elimayer193 sure thing. I was going to order it. It's so inexpensive.
I'm not expecting much from that lens.
@@TMVVisualMedia yeah, u know it’s a low quality rf wen it only has 1 ring
Wow, I love the honest reviews. They’re very informative. I’d love to see what a photographer packs in their bag!
You got it!!!

Thanks for comment!

The only con I dont like about the Nifty is the focus stuggles. Otherwise good for the price.
Thanks for the comment! I wish it had stabilization.
Otherwise, it's a great lens.
Congrats on passing 1K!!!! We’ll deserved!!
Thanks amigo. It was a grind.
I appreciate your kind words and your views. Let me know if you ever want to bounce any ideas around. Happy to help.
Yes, congrats. I just got to 1k too!
I’ve been shooting since dark room days and I’m super impressed with my RF 50mm 1.8….
I’ve had both the EF 50mm 1.8 and 1.4…. It’s a HUGE STEP UP FROM BOTH….

Gracias amigo! 💪
Thanks. I think I’ll go for the RF 35 instead.
Excellent choice! I am certain you won't be disappointed.
Let me know your thoughts after you spent time with the lens.
Is it true it’s plastic not actual glass ?
It's perfect for your first lens. I loved the lens for a very short time and it's a nice lens to start.
Thanks for the comment!
I loved this video, good points and good comparison with the 35mm. I ordered both and looking forward to testing them also myself.
Owning both is a great combo!
Let me know what you think of them!
I'm very very very happy with my 50 rf f/1.8 lens. I'm using it on my R10 and these two are my number one toy :) I think you harshly criticized this gem. Disagree, sorry.
Ok, thanks.
I kinda like the chromatic aberration. Would be nice if they had a better 50mm for the RF mounts that isn’t 1000$ plus.
It's a nice little lens. I do wish it had built in stabilization.
And yes the rf 35 is tons better but it's also 500 bucks and most ppl looking for lenses usually just bought a 1800 plus on a camera and the 50 is a huge step up from the kit lens.
The 35mm is pretty great. So is the 24mm. Two awesome lenses.
@@TMVVisualMedia I actually thought the same 😂😂😂 maybe they will make a II one day 😂
I would pay for that. No problem.

Do you got any suggestions for a lense doing GYM ?
Probably something wide like a 16mm or 24mm with a high aperture like an f1.8
Thanks. It makes sense with my ideas too.

I like the RF 50mm 1.8, it has been good to me. I mean it's not my 24-70, but it serves a purpose.
Thanks for the comment! I agree it has a purpose.
Have you tried the RF 35mm 1.8? It's very nice as well.
I bought my nifty 50 renewed from Canon for $75 so it's good for what it is.
That's a good price!
Eu comprei para a minha R7 é a primeira 50mm que tenho e estou a adorar recomendo. ❤
Obrigado!
Thanks for the comment!
It's my opinion that the RF 35mm is perfect. At the very least far better than the nifty fifty.
Thanks again!
@0ecka agreed amigo!

This is like arguing weather the 85mm or 105mm is better for portraits, to each their own.. the 50mm works great for me on my R6
Thanks for the comment!
I personally love 50 or 35mm for portraits. 85 is also great. Have you tried the 85 f1.2?
Thanks for contributing to the comments!
It's OK to disagree. You may notice in the comments there is a slight mixed bag of opinion.
we cannot exclude the quality/price ratio when talking about this lens. for that price the quality is excellent, you can't expect more. it's obvious that if it's talked about well it's because of the quality/price ratio. a video would have been more honest where you explained why it's useless for videography... are we really complaining that it isn't weather sealed or that it has aberrations at full aperture?
Thanks for the comment!
Boring and UN exciting lens!
Overhyped.
Get the RF 35mm, much nicer glass!
Agreed!
It seems to me that many of your gripes are video related. If one doesn't care about video, it's a perfectly fine lens to shoot stills with.

I love all the lenses I own for different reasons.
in my country it comes with r6 for 50 euro extra... that's practically for free
Don't buy it if you're not a good photographer, otherwise buy it, it's sharp and cheap!
Imagine what would happen if you tried the lens with a, oh I don't know, different aperture. Surprises may follow. Maybe even joy.
I have been really liking f2.8 and f4 recently.
Thanks for the comment!
The RF 35 is a MUCH better lens straight across the board.
Facts!!!! Yo I tried the 35 on the R7. Killer combo. It's effectively a 50mm focal length but you get the stabilization and macro ability. It's perfect 👌🏻

Cant afford 35mm. To expensive. You can get used 17-40l or 24-105l for less money.
pretty sure that the 35mm is better then both of those lenses. at least @ 35mm anyway.
You also forgot to add it has terrible cat's eye bokeh, plastic aperture blades, strong vignetting and is very soft in the corners until stopped down to at least f4. It also flares easily and has bad coma until about f4 again. It's a dreadful lens.
